That is going to be a very, hmm, exciting power curve to actually utilize if you want to go racing with it. It does, like, NA figures for that engine right up to 4000 or so RPM where the turbo seems to finally spool up and then it takes off like a rocket. I was also absolutely floored when it was hitting 8k RPM during the low boost runs. So you've apparently got enough headroom in the RPM range to be able to cope with the cliff-like power curve.
It will need a little finessing yet. I can alter how quick the turbo spools on the wastegate duty table if it comes in a little fierce. I can also change the requested boost level vs throttle position so it's easier to modulate mid corner. Theres things I can do to tame it down if it's too much.

Oh yeh smashing platform to start modifying. At 1000kg ish it just needs power and a little development. They should have put a t5 in the noble as the mondeo gearbox used to shread at much over the 400hp it came with. The volvo box will take 800hp reliably as I've tested myself.
Absolutely incredible!!! Any tips for tuning a T5 for daily-able fun? I don't want to take the block apart and do shims/etc unless I have to. Currently have an S60 II FMIC, Do88 intake, and 3" downpipe/exhaust with a high flow cat on a C30 (B5254T7, stock turbo/manifold) here. :)

I actually had a lotus in mind for this until I saw the prices. Also the cabin was really cramped and I doubly the 5cyl would have even fitted. Pleased I did it this way 😎

Ford stole it for the focus RS in 2009 16 years later authough the 2.5 later engines are massively less robust than the early ones. Ideal scenario you put the newer vvt head on an old 2.3 which is exactly what this is

👍 Atleast my engines sound like proper T5s. No ford engines sound right even though it's more or less the same engine. They seem to loose what is special.
It's a case of what breaks at the moment 😂 Its working progress, theres a few things I need to sort safety wise before I take it on track. It really needs rollover protection as it's a little unsafe. Goal for this year was to get it running and driving so I've got there now. I'll slowly develop the car from here but the engines in the bag 👍

Have you seen the ur quattro with a Volvo d5 block fitted with the na Audi 7a 20v cylinder head obviously a turbo charger has been run added the clip saw looks an absolute weapon and sounds amazing.

In the last run I see there is an extra lump of power right up in the revs that isn't there on any of the previous runs. Have you found the limit of the wastgate size? Hi mate thanks for your comments, pleased you liked my channel. The lump at the end of the last pull the turbo seemed to have hit a wierd efficiency island. We went expecting it either. Seems like the turbo actually wants more boost but the engine wont see it on normal fuel. It probibly would hit close to the 770hp its rated for on e85

8-10k in parts to do it properly like this and run 5-600hp. Could just swap a donor engine in complete straight from a volvo for not a lot though. The real cost of this build is TIME

Comes in so fast the dyno has a spaz 😆 Also its over shooting boost target slightly then settles down. Driving it up the road theres no wonder. It's like a lightswich when it comes on

No I'd never touch meth injection. I think they are a bandaid. AIT was like 28°c on the dyno and 23°c on the road. Dynos just a warm environment. A long pull doesnt heatsoak the intercooler core.
Yeh well a viper is 2x 5cyl strapped side by side. On the later ones they have one bank out of each side so dependent on where you stand it's basically the same sound 🙂
Did you support the cylinder liners in this engine? Im a little over 500hp now on mine, but except for the conrods i run a completely unmodified 2.3L block (later one with the 147mm rods). Im wondering how much more it can take before the block and or pistons are going to be a problem in stock form.
@@VolvoT5Golf well i put it on the dyno last week it made 530hp en 660nm and the pistons didnt fall apart yet, been driving several trackdays this year with that setup

So if actually been doing this swap and just found your vids. What axles did you use? I currently have an s70 making 750 and a 855r making 450 so if got plenty of parts and extra goodies
Side note na or r cams and na intake if you get the runners working make a bit more down low and carry the tq out another 1000rpm over that one. Seriously recommend it made a night and day difference for me spooling a gt45😂but even the 855 became much more fun with the same g25-550. Believe the one actually picked up almost 80hp around 7k
It's an Rn head with std cams with an 850 manifold. The 850 manifold I know helps with spool on a big turbo compared to others but does fall flat up top. The v70 on a blouch gt35 spools very well on it and that's where it shines. In this application with driveability and spool in mind it's a good setup on a pulsar g30-770. More power would be dead easy but I'm trying to make a uber responsive circuit car rather than ultimate hp. I mean 1000hp out of a similar engine I have made on my golf running an 8.82 1/4. But yeh the N/A manifold is basically the same as the 850 one this runs. My golf has a custom short runner manifold that screams to 9200rpm but the volvo long manifolds have their place. Got any dragy times 100-200?

@@oliverscorsim No these are custom. I basically welded the mr2 axles to v70 ones and sent them out as a pattern for length but to suit Rav 4 outer cvs which arnt made of twiglets. If you have vids I'll check them out?

@@davewilliams9 The mr2 is the last one, I have no desire to do another with all angles covered. Golf is a street/strip car. V70 is a wild family wagon and the mr2 is a street / circuit car. The point of the mr2 was that I didnt have anything to take around cadwell park circuit which is 10 mins away from me. Seemed silly so I put this together. The time and effort that goes into these is a case of been there, done that as such. I cant think of any other candidates to put my effort into. Big effort aswel

Itl be an 850 tdi block which is the VW transporter engine. It's not a D5 block.

This is on pump fuel. It's on 1050cc injectors so they arnt big enough for alcohols. Daily probibly about 350hp, 600+ is silly fast 😆

I work with a lad that's got a D5 V70. It makes 380hp at the wheels and 600 ft lbs. 2.2 ton shouldn't pull so easily as it does lol
Why is the torque dipping after the boost comes in?
Its overshooting boost target slightly. It just takes a moment to settle down to where it should be

What have you done to the rear suspension? Even with all that power it stays pretty planted as it pulls
It's a narrowed track to get the 255 tyres in but suspension is miester R adjustable coilovers

Those pistons will fail long before the block does. The later pistons smash the ringlands off

@@Iusniqa what specific 2.5 are you talking about? if its the 2.5t from the p1 chassis cars then 400lb ft is about the limit of the rods.
