Vets are a business. They are not trained to help with naturopathic remedies they are trained to push chemicals, medication and vaccines on animals. They are a business people.
I agree My dog was growing up blood and I got on UA-cam and search some reasons why and then narrowed it down and treated him with herbs and pumpkin seeds and he's still alive today just says skin problems that's how I ended up on this video . If I were to taken him to the vet they would have put them down.
just use some quality coconut oil.....for my two dogs i just rub some into their problem areas on their fur/skin making sure to massage it well and it helps relieve itchiness dandruff. one of my dogs had some bumps on top of her head and after rubbing in coco oil for a few days it went away.
I used Caster oil for the last two weeks on my dogs nubs (knotty dried hairless skin on top of his front two legs) and now, to my surprise, his fur has grown back! So awesome!❤
Cytopoint works great for my little Buster, he's a 10lb smooth hair mini dachshund. He gets a shot about every 2-3mo, currently $85 per shot but worth it for him.
I dont know if my experience would help anyone but i have a small breed dog who had devoloped skin allergies itcing real bad and shed a lot of fur was bare behind the ear and by her butt and a spot on her back i have o money to take her to a vet and i know when i have any skin problem i use sulfer soap to clear it up so i tried that on her plus i started sprinkling some tumeric in her food nd now her fur had grown back in the areas that were bald and the itching had subsided a lot
Long time, 4th generation, German Shepherd adopted/owner here. 25 years?? 4 different Shepherds, and they all had 1 thing in common. In the spring, they get very itchy all over, but especially on the center of their backs to the base of the tail. Their skin dries out and becomes flakey. The intching becomes insane. So 3 different vets, 3 different professional suggestions. A lot of research and trial and error, on my own. Here is my experience....I have tried numerous different kibble bagged foods for sensative skin, thinking (incorrectly) the dog(s) were alergic to food, and/or chicken. They were not. I tried several variations of Purina Pro for sensative skin, and numerous other brands as well. None of these foods really helped. I quit the Milk Bone treats, thinking they were the cause, and they were not. Frequent baths work to some degree, but its very short term (48 hours) and a lot of work, as these were/are all indoor/outdoor pets. A few years ago, I discovered Apoquell. So after 25 years of trial and error, I now use Benadryl (1mg per 1 lb., per day) when the MILD itching begins, (aprox.March or April to June). As the itching becomes more MODERATE, (about June/July) I begin with Apoquell. My 100 lb dog gets half a tablet per day (8mg.) for 4 or 5 months a year (June/July to October). I currently pay $3.42 per 16mg. tablet of Apoquel, due to "Bidenomics". It used to be less expensive. When the itching gets to SEVERE , (October /Nov.), only then do I increase the Apoquel to 1 tablet (16mg) per day. USUSALLY, by December, we are off the Apoquel completely. Then the cycle begins the following year, begining about mid-March. Yes, its expensive, and yes I am aware of bad experiences others have had with Apoquell. But for us, Apoquel works well. AND by breaking the tablets in half, and giving half doses, I am not only reducing the costs, but also reduceing the possible ??? long-term side effects as well. In the future, I may experiment with Cytopoint and/or Zytec at some point, as we have never experimented with either of those products. Without the meds, my Shepherds get very itchy all over, but especially on the center of their backs to the base of the tail. Their skin dries out and becomes flakey. They itch to the point that they would casue severe bleeding, without meds. Without Apoquel, they become absolutely miserable. Following this simple routine seems to work the best for us. Your results may differ. Their comfort is all that matters! Hope this helps someone out there. If you read all of this, please give your dog a treat!
Hey mate my ex gf had a Saint Bernard and we went through hell trying to figure out how to stop grass allergies, the dog was on aboquel but over time the dog grew immune to it and the dose was needed to be increased. We tried switching to natural pre packed dog food which seemed to help but the issue did come back Eventually we tried cytopoint and by god I wish we done it earlier. Completely removed all itches I can’t speak to the long term immunity to the drug as we broke up after 6 months of the injection being used but it was a huge difference, I would honestly strongly recommend trying it at least for a couple months
Hi there, can you tell me more about Benedryl please. Is this a liquid, tabled, capsule form. I am also working in the dark and lots of hit and miss experiments with our 3 yr old Westie. Thanks
Benadryl doesn't do anything for this but it will help if your dog is having some kind of allergic reaction to something I know because mine did last week and I gave it to her and it worked
My grandmother gave her dogs stinging nettles/wood nettles she would make a tea and put it in h there water or make a wash and wash them or even Make a tincture of it and give them orally as well and would work every time. You can do the same for yourself if you have allergies as well.
Thank you for mentioning Head and Shoulders. I literally googled it to try to find out if it was safe for my dog and I got nothing but the general "don't use people products for dogs!" line. That being said, Cytopoint is a gift from the most gracious of gods!
@@readmore3634 We got lucky, my girl has been on it seasonally/as needed for over 5 years and it still works great. Before Cytopoint very fall was a nightmare. Momma would end up with big swollen, itchy paws that looked painful to look at. I don't miss those days.
Im horrified with this video. You would think after the incredible rise in canine cancer, low immune function, allergies due to improper diet. Wake up people!! Dogs always ate raw and organ meats in the wild, they never ate kibble or these poisonous treats and its disgusting that some vets still think diet has nothing to do with any of this. Just look at our kids today poor diets! Eczema is a pandemic and our dogs show the same dermatitis from poor diet and environmental triggers. Apoquel and Cytopoint will cost you a dog with kidney failure or cancer down the road. they deserve better
Bully breed with horrible itching issues...done all that you discussed, but in the end, found a couple of things that work best. I always fed designer, baked foods, but switched to Purina Sensitive skin and stomach, which I swore I would never use and helped a lot. Secondly, bathing three times a week with the shampoos you mentioned, prevents all skin infections now for the last year and a half. Thirdly, the allergy shots I give now helped in a huge way...and lastly, I use Zyrtec...for some reason, it worked better than Apoquel and Apoquel is very expensive. Great video.
TY! On my way to get Zyrtec. I'm fighting seasonal allergies in my Staffordshire Terrier Pitt Mix. I'm to the point of tears. Our vets out till Monday hopefully this will help my baby girl make it through the weekend.
TY, you gave us some long term choices. It took years of switching foods for a vet to finally diagnose seasonal allergies. Every Summer and fall is pure hell!
My pitbull has bad itch and hot spots been using vinegar and baking soda baths for a couple of weeks and zyrtec while trying to heal his itch...looking better but, takes a lot of baths like every third day!!! Dry them well! I'm not sure about apoquel 😂 or being able to afford vet God bless and help all who Need help with there babies❤
As a former Hills vet rep I trained vets on diets for allergies. Canine ZD is a hydrolyzed protein diet that is extremely effective if good is the allergen. If environmental, Canine Derm Complete is the only diet designed to manage environmental allergies by normalizing the immune response. Both work in about 6 weeks.
Stopped watching as soon as you started pushing apoquel and cytopoint! My HEALTHY dog almost died after a cytopoint injection. Then I started researching and came across so many discussion boards regarding these 2 drugs and how they killed so many pets.
Yep. Those meds are killing dogs or severely impaired their health in the long term. I stopped Apoquel 2 yrs ago. I use holistic approaches and Quercitin 2x a day.
Thank you! One sane person here that doesn’t think she was giving “good “ advice. I am sad there are vets out there like this one. Natural remedies are the safest way if you love your pet!!
Thank you so much for the at home advice like the Head & Shoulders and the Benedryl, because some people won't even attempt to try a human "help" to try and help their dog.
@@graciezeus5511 I have maybe twice. Honestly, when I get bit by a mosquito especially the baby ones, I find myself holding my breath as I'm scratching needing one more hand of fingers lol. Once I stop itching I breathe. So when my little Daisy has those welps and is constantly scratching I can relate. Like my daily life is mostly on her so I hit UA-cam and watch every video I can find that sounds like what she may have or not. I have used Happy Jack mange medicine on her thinking it may be domidec mange, regardless if it doesn't clear up by the 2nd or 3rd time I change to something else.
@@graciezeus5511 I actually thought about Selsun Blue then I saw one even better than that one and those are for itching and flakes from yeast in the hair follicle build up, sounds in relation to me, so......
Also, one of my problems is that there is so much information and advice out there that contradicts one another. For instance you say you can wash your dog 3x a week. Most dog advice on that subject says no more often then once a month. This seems to be 3 concensus because it is thought that bathing your dog more often will in fact dry out there skin and cause more problems with itching and such with their skin. Also, I have heard you should give your dog/puppy 1oz of water for pound of weight. Then I hear that over 70% of dogs are dehydrated, which can actually promote our exacerbate skin conditions, so you should encourage your dog/puppy to drink a lot of water, certainly more than the 1oz per pound ratio. My GSD 4mo 24.5lb puppy certainly wants to drink much more than 24.5 ounces of water each day! So, what should I do? I just now noticed a mild rash on her tummy and I am not sure how to deal with it. My funds are limited right now so a vet visit is something I need to avoid at this point. Please help!
I agree 💯, different vets say different things and researching on Google just confuses you more because all you find are contradictions!! DO this, DON'T do this. DO that, DON'T do that!!! Omggg does anybody really know what they're talking about anymore?? So far, the only topical solutions I've found are medicated sprays and shampoos that contain Chlorhexidine and/or Ketoconazole. Dermabliss spray contains both and it's relatively affordable on Amazon, but if you opt for Chlorhexidine spray/shampoo then get the 4% instead of the 2%. I'm still in the process of trying to "cure" my dog's itching completely so I can't say these products will do that, but they seem to be the only things that give her instant relief that lasts a bit longer.
Keep the water bowl topped off with clean water at ALL times. Let them drink as much as they want. The worst thing that can happen is more trips to go pee. Some breeds like Labrador retrievers and other hunting breeds don't have the "my stomach is full " sense and might drink enough to puke though.
You can also use apple cider vinegar to clean your dogs paws.. make sure to dilute with plenty of water. My dog gets a medicated shampoo, rinse, vinegar paw scrub, rinse.. finish with coconut oil body massage.. I have a 65lb Pit
@@zenn3339 LOL oh yes absolutely....I actually had began wondering it the food manufacturers and the vets were working together to stay in business. I kept seeing that Kibble has this and Kibble has that and thought dang what people will do to make a buck. To do that to us humans is one thing but come on it's an animal.
My rescue puppy (18 months old) is constantly chewing her skin, mainly on the back half of the body. She has some new stressors instead of the weekly trucks that go by. My nephew lives here and has episodes of screaming horrible things in a dark room like his room or the bathroom. She's a very fearful white German shepherd who was thrown away in our neighborhood along with her brother when they were 14 weeks old. We spent the first 6 months just being able to pet her without her flinching and the next 6 months being able to have a leash put on and go for a walk. She's on super high-quality food and bathed once a month with medicated shampoo. Going to a vet next week to get an annual check-up.
Well good for you for taking care of such a sweet pup. Patience is key. Use coconut oil or castor oil for the skin. Yes she will lick it but it's super good for her. Try some melatonin for the nephew before going to bed, or banana tea helps sleeping too. We want restful stress free nights. Some white noise to over shadow the trucks may help, like a radio, ocean sounds or TV. Hope this helps . German Shepards are the best, but they can be big babies. ❤❤❤
I am using Jax and Daisy Shampoo and conditioner. I bought a gallon of each. It seems to calm my pup down. I also use Quercetin - natural Benadryl and Benadryl for flare ups.
We have a baby Brittany who is 10 weeks old and always scratches, and now has red spots on the back half of her belly. It is turning into scabs. She had been like this for a while, and my husband showed me a few nights ago. What can I use on her that won't hurt her? She is so loving and want her to be happy.
I have never heard of a veterinary dermatology specialist until now... OMG! My poor dog has had paw licking habits and lately, very itchy skin... Poor girl has been miserable... The baths help, but now I want to see a specialist! We keep thinking she's getting itchy from medication. I've always thought that maybe she is allergic to chicken but no veterinarian has EVER suggested any change in food or anything. So frustrating! Thank you for this video!
My English Bulldog developed allergies at around 2yrs old. We had to move to raw for a bit because he kept getting yeast infections in his ears. It was recommended to me to “starve the yeast out” we did turkey for 4 months because anything with potatoes or grain can help yeast grow. But a strict diet for a couple months and you would not believe the difference. You can’t do it for too long because there is so much more nutrients they need from bone, organs, and vegetables, but you can slowly introduce those over time. To see what is good and what is not. because he startedb😮 We went with raw for about 4months then slowly started to add in stuff to see if he would react. Grain is also something they can develop an allergy to. Diet is everything with some dogs, it’s crazy the difference in mood, coat, bathroom routine.
Sorry I think I repeat myself, trying to write this up on my little phone screen, but I would recommend looking into food allergies also, not just environmental allergies
Reading all your comments makes me feel less alone with this issue. We’ve done Cytopoint a few times but it’s stopped working now. I have the Elizabethan collar back on to save her skin while I try to find an alternative solution.
In my opinion yes adding a really good pro and prebiotics would be great for a number of reasons. Could the “leaking gut” be causing the skin issues? That is one thing to look at. I would recommend also treating the skin issues topically while supporting the GI issues. I know how much I drive myself crazy if I’m itching all over.
I followed all of this advice about the apple cider vinegar and using a little coconut oil for my dog's ears and belly I also washed her in Head and Shoulders that was earlier in the spring when she was having allergies it worked really great. One thing that I did add was yogurt. My dog loves ice cream but she doesn't need ice cream so I would freeze it in a little cups the kind that has the good probiotics and when I had ice cream she would have frozen yogurt it seemed to really help her gut health. We are having bad allergies now and it is full I think it's the leaf litter right now but I'm not sure. We had really bad oat mites here this year and I think it's just a combination of a lot of things it also got very dry here in Missouri. Starting all these things again.
I have a ridgeback and he scratches near his tail and I give him 2.5 tablets of benadryl. I hope this helps. I love your show and you are precious. Keep coming with more helpful hints. George Drewett
Thanks for this helpful information. My dad is older and on a budget. He loves his Yorky, Sophie, so much. Since my mom passed away his dog, Sophie is his world. He can’t afford to take her to the vet but i recently took her to get that shot and it’s only lasted 4 weeks before taking her for the second time. It’s expensive for me but I know how much she means to him. Is there something more that I can do? That is less expensive? She has gotten the second shot and it seems to not have worked as well as the first. Her skin is very dry. I will start with the baths with head and shoulder shampoo, but would you suggest anything more affordable that will help between the shots?
Try to get her off chicken. Get her on the doggie recipe , cooked ground turkey, a lil fish oil, pumpkin and a lil rice. Get on UA-cam and for the turkey recipe for dogs with allergies
After washing, we pour down apple cider vinegar + water (50% apple cider vinegar + 50% water) mix on dogs skin. We don't wash away it and dry the dog afterwards. Finally, use coconut oil to give some massage after she dried. So far this made the biggest difference with the smallest budget. I still want to try aloe vera (harvest from plant leave) on her red paws.
Try taking the dog off dry kibble and giving it home prepared food. You can try preparing a mixture of mince meat, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes and brown rice. Sardines are also great for the dog's skin. Some vegetables like carrots are also good.
My dog is a German Shepherd, he’s seven years old he licks bites nose on his skin, his ears itch. This was very helpful. I know my dog has allergy. I do have a question on dog chews, which one is better that you recommend. Petco lab chews or Allergy Relief Dog Treats w/ Omega 3 + Pumpkin + Enzymes + Turmeric - Itchy Skin Relief - Immune & Digestive Supplement - Skin & Coat Health - Anti-Itch & Hot Spots … I would appreciate if you could please get back to me
Hi Dr. Lindsay! Many thanks for sharing the very useful info with us. One of our dog freeze dried salmon dog treats states its ingredients are salmon and Mixed Tocopherols, may I kindly ask if Mixed Tocopherols cause itchiness and allergy to dogs? And is Mixed Tocopherols safe for dogs? Many many thanks in advance!
They are safe! Tocopherols are any of several closely related compounds, found in wheat germ oil, egg yolk, and leafy vegetables, that collectively constitute vitamin E. They are fat-soluble alcohols with antioxidant properties, important in the stabilization of cell membranes. I hope this helped! Dr.Lindsay Butzer
What about testing in an effort to discover the primary cause (e.g., immunoglobulins; autoimmune disorders; and allergy testing to rule out environmental causes like dust mites, etc., etc.). As opposed to taking medications and frequent bathing for the rest of their lives?
Most scratch because they corn and the red and green dye that is in alot of dogfoods,I was told this by a vet.once I found food with those products My dogs healed up quit scratching and hair grew back.just saying
Do a customer review of owners who have used apoquel. Why would you want to kill your dog slowly. Don't take anyone's word for a treatment until you do research.
Thank you very much, this is helpful. I am faraway from a vet clinic which is a out 120km away. I need to use a home remedy for my dog having itchy body. I take him to bath at the sea but I don't see changes. He is having restless nights with the itch paws and body. Thanks for your video. I can grab a head and shoulders shampoo and use that for time being.
Ok so hear me out, I have a exotic bully he’s little over a year old, when I got him he had no skin issues ATALL!! over time nearly a month of him living with me (not held in a cage) he started developing a pretty serious skin issue/allergy. It’s hard to explain. I took him to the vet bc I’ve tired hundreds of different things!! Changing food. Medicines. Bathing more then normal. Combing him daily (still do this after ab 12h the dry flakey skin returns) Oils. I’m very stumped and need some help! Any vets out there I could really use some help please and thanks! I’ll reply back soon thanks for your time!
Did you get any help? I have a bully too and trying to get some help. So far Coconut Oil and omega oil in his food has been helping. Tried these immune chews from amazon and a medicated shampoo and those made him more itchy. We give him Purina kibble, omega oil, Coconut oil and joint supplement..hoping to find something that doesnt cost bare lol

@Lisa Llewelyn2727 , my dog had cytopoint and had yeast and bacterial infections in her ears, you have to give your pup some antibiotics ear drops. Take her to the vet for a prescription. Then buy her medicares shampoo, and I bought Veterinary Formula brand. Then chlorhexidine, every 3 days bathing.
The bath 3x a week isn’t for all dogs!!! This can actually make your dogs skin worse by drying out their skin of their natural oils that help protect their skin and hair. My dog was only able to get a bath once a month during late spring through early fall and every other month during the winter. He would have dry baths in between if he got smelly! His condition was sensitive and dry skin. The treatment we used and worked well with MY dog (might not be for your dog) was a small amount of olive oil in his food . His skin and coat drastically improved after only a week!!! It is important to note that you should check with your vet before doing this and if you use this treatment it only requires a very small amount if adding to their food if they can tolerate ingesting it!It can also be directly applied to the effected area, again very little or your going to have a mess on your clothes, carpets furniture etc.
Could you recommend, simple home remedy for itchy dog skin please? My dog is a breed of Belgian Malinois,, my dog keep on scratching her body,,after going around at the back of my house,,rolling along the grass. Thank you so much.
Try adding home cooked food to his diet or even replacing the kibble with home cooked food if possible. You can try preparing a mixture of mince meat, sweet potatoes, regular potatoes and brown rice. Sardines are also great for the dog's skin. I give my dog raw carrots as well and she loves them.
Some things you said might help my dog, but to afford a vet, i can't. This dog is so bad, now i have the same problem on my skin. I will try benadryl , head & shoulders shampoo. Maybe this will work.😢
Dr Bronners Soap. I am currently using the peppermint one on my dog that s itching bad. It also deters fleas and makes her fur soo soft now. Also in between baths can rub coconut oil on dog preferably organic. Helps against skin infections also.
My issue is my Frenchie keeps breaking out in hives. We know it’s not the food. He does chew on acorns which. And he is very warm bodies. So I’m guessing it’s either hot spot, acorns or something in my yard. He’s already on cytopoint. And I’m giving him a low dose of apoquel to help. :(

Hey! Yes its very safe for dogs to give them human Benadryl from the local drug store. Dose is 1mg per pound. Dont be afraid. Its an antihistamine. works great!
My Dog was prescribed Apoquel by a Vet, but the Vet told My Husband and I not to read the Bad Reviews online, We Bought the Apoquel, got home and read the bad reviews online and got rid of the Apoquel. Why would a Vet that is supposed to help Your Animals want to Kill them ??? I don't Understand . And we Never went back to that Vets office.
I have a 10 year old lab taking Apoquel now and it works great once it got into his system but the cost is killing me! My Vet thought he might get better once winter weather got here but in central Alabama we just don’t get enough really cold weather or if a duration necessary to give him much relief. Do you think Apoquel will be available in a generic form any time soon? Also I was feeding my dog a grain free diet thinking it was healthier for him but have been told that could be contributing to this problem.

My dog has never had skin allergies or atopy/bacterial/fungal infection but she got a rabies shot as we are movin home to America and she is 10 years old this September… what is thought is that the vax caused a hit to her immune system and she’s ended up with an infection… she’s my whole world so i guess I have a fear that it’s a wrong prognosis… her bloods were done the same visit and came back healthy… is this something the vaccine could do to an older dog? Or should I go back and ask for something specific to be tested or go get a second opinion? She’s on medicated baths and topicals as I was anxious about the antibiotic bc of her age so we are about two weeks in and it seems to look a bit better… but i take her in again soon for a follow up… any info or suggestions that I should ask about or ask for them to check?
When bathing 3x a week at home should we make sure their coat is 100% dry each time. Is just towel drying enough. Should we change their bedding as well free each bath. Our pug gets the cidelpoint (sp?) shot every month. But in the winter months she likes to sit on the floor vent where the heat comes out and then the scratching licking show begins. Any suggestions on that heater issue 😩thank you for all that you do.

Thank you soooo much. I realized i didnt bathe my dog enough, because I thought it was bad for her. The peevailing wisdom is bathe dogs once/month. I recently found out from you and a few pet groomers about bathing more frequently for dogs with certain skin conditions. After watching your video, I pulled out my head and shoulders and bathed her in the shampoo. I scrubbed her (not realy scrubbed) let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinsed and repeated. Then I used head and shoulders conditioner and let that sit for 10 minutes. I blow dried her hair because air drying can allow the bacteria and/or fungus to grow. A dog bather told me any air circulation is better than no air circulation after a dog is bathed. So i tried my best to blow dried her under the arms, and around all skin folds. I followed up the bathing and blow drying with black JAMAICAN castor oil and baking soda on top of the larger lumps under the skin and the skin nodules. Then I put baking soda all over her the rest of her skin. The cancerous nodules (she has terminal mast cell cancer) appear to be decreasing, but new ones pop up, and i simply just treat them with castor oil and baking soda, too. She is on prednisone, zyrtec, gabapentin, famotidine, probiotics, pre lectin and IV chemo vinblastin. We had to miss her last chemo appointment due to car troubles, but the cancer nodules seem to be responding to the head and shoulders, castor oil and baking soda treatment despite the missed chemo appointment. We tried the keto diet. It gave her prolonged diarrhea. Palladia put her into remission for only 3 months. After all is said and done, i now realize that when i first got her at age 5, i should have given her more bathes, treated her with fungal and antibacterial shampoo three times/week. Washed her bedding and our bedding in hit water with laundry soap for sensitive skin once/week. I should have cleaned the air with filters, kept her hair short, ears plucked, and toenails trimmed regularly. We just were not clean enough to prevent allergies on an allergy prone dog. We didnt know, but now we do and we are working hard at giving her an allergy free home. Thank you again. However, for whatever reason, i feel like we are out of the woods. They give her less than a year to live, but Im still praying and still believing for a cure. Im glad i found your channel. The head and shoulders was good for me and good for my dog, too. I hope this 6 year old lives to beyond 16. I hope that I'll be complaining about hiw much work she is, and how expensive fancy dog food is. Yes. That is right. I want her to be 16, I'm complaining about hiw much I do for the dog all the way to the dog groomers. ;)

Bathing my dog in apple cider vinegar has done incredible wonders for my dog. I also put a tablespoon or two in there drinking water. Who knew right… 😊
Hey, Pimples on the face could be from too much oil and dirt building up in pores. Naked dog breeds like Chinese crested get this. If your dog has skin scabs and pus on the face could be a bad infection and you need to go to your local vet to have them culture it and start your pet on antibiotics for now to help. Also, gentle baths of the face using a washcloth and head and shoulders shampoo may help in the meantime. I hope this helped!
I have a 2 month old puppy. I took him to a veterinarian and he told me that he has some kind of skin allergy or flea allergy. Idk what. But he said we can trat him atm. He’s too small for the treatment. His eyes are injured due to itching I guess. And idk what to do now? Can someone help me with this.
Have you tried changing his food? One vet suggested, making homemade food and getting them off of the kibble. Diatomaceous earth will help with allergies and fleas ticks and so on, and it’s natural. What about rubbing coconut oil on him, and just gently washing out his eyes with a cool cloth or a warm cloth?

I agree My dog was growing up blood and I got on UA-cam and search some reasons why and then narrowed it down and treated him with herbs and pumpkin seeds and he's still alive today just says skin problems that's how I ended up on this video . If I were to taken him to the vet they would have put them down.
What herbs did you use? My pup is 2 years old and he is fine and healthy but I would rather know now just in case @@TKD187
Totally agree. Wouldn't touch apoquel with a ten foot pole.
just use some quality coconut oil.....for my two dogs i just rub some into their problem areas on their fur/skin making sure to massage it well and it helps relieve itchiness dandruff. one of my dogs had some bumps on top of her head and after rubbing in coco oil for a few days it went away.
My dog licks more with the coconut oil 😢
@@bridget3694It's probably enjoying the taste of the coconut.
I used Caster oil for the last two weeks on my dogs nubs (knotty dried hairless skin on top of his front two legs) and now, to my surprise, his fur has grown back! So awesome!❤
What about red paws? I find my Frenchy having issues with that we tried chewies, but they don’t seem to work
Cytopoint works great for my little Buster, he's a 10lb smooth hair mini dachshund.
We tried switching to natural pre packed dog food which seemed to help but the issue did come back
Eventually we tried cytopoint and by god I wish we done it earlier. Completely removed all itches I can’t speak to the long term immunity to the drug as we broke up after 6 months of the injection being used but it was a huge difference, I would honestly strongly recommend trying it at least for a couple months
I will keep that in mind. Thank you.@@brandanmurray193
Hi there, can you tell me more about Benedryl please. Is this a liquid, tabled, capsule form. I am also working in the dark and lots of hit and miss experiments with our 3 yr old Westie. Thanks
@@KellysmailBenadryl is only helpful if the cause is actually an allergy. It doesn’t help with irritants.
Apoquel is the only thing that worked. My dog was suffering and I beside myself.
Good to hear that head and shoulder shampoo is an option
Benadryl doesn't do anything for this but it will help if your dog is having some kind of allergic reaction to something I know because mine did last week and I gave it to her and it worked
How much did you give her?
My grandmother gave her dogs stinging nettles/wood nettles she would make a tea and put it in h there water or make a wash and wash them or even Make a tincture of it and give them orally as well and would work every time. You can do the same for yourself if you have allergies as well.
That sounds like a winner!
@@sweatingbullets4235 awesome!.. thank you very much for the suggestion!
Thank you for mentioning Head and Shoulders. I literally googled it to try to find out if it was safe for my dog and I got nothing but the general "don't use people products for dogs!" line.
That being said, Cytopoint is a gift from the most gracious of gods!
Cytopoint worked great at first...5 mos. later, not working...still RED skin...less itching and hair loss tho.
@@readmore3634 We got lucky, my girl has been on it seasonally/as needed for over 5 years and it still works great. Before Cytopoint very fall was a nightmare. Momma would end up with big swollen, itchy paws that looked painful to look at. I don't miss those days.
Over medicating can also be a problem 🤔
Terrible side effects!
I was told Selsum Blue is also a good shampoo to use on our pets.

Do you give your dog cytopoint?
TY! On my way to get Zyrtec. I'm fighting seasonal allergies in my Staffordshire Terrier Pitt Mix. I'm to the point of tears. Our vets out till Monday hopefully this will help my baby girl make it through the weekend.

@van3363 my vet recommended Zrytec

TY, you gave us some long term choices. It took years of switching foods for a vet to finally diagnose seasonal allergies. Every Summer and fall is pure hell!
Don’t I know but I love my girl ❤.
So basically no need to switch foods if seasonal allergy correct?
My pitbull has bad itch and hot spots been using vinegar and baking soda baths for a couple of weeks and zyrtec while trying to heal his itch...looking better but, takes a lot of baths like every third day!!!

That particular shampoo shown here is strong, I wouldn’t put it on my dog either. I will use natural products as much as possible.

Needless to say I did not make a vet trip yet because of my mouth lol, a long with that sitting in the chair fee, (office visit crap) ridiculous.
Exactly!
Get your nephew on meds.
To see what is good and what is not.
because he startedb😮
We went with raw for about 4months then slowly started to add in stuff to see if he would react.
I heard Selsun Blue Shampoo works good.
Reading all your comments makes me feel less alone with this issue. We’ve done Cytopoint a few times but it’s stopped working now. I have the Elizabethan collar back on to save her skin while I try to find an alternative solution.
Okay ! Try Zymox baths too!
Shea butter, coconut oil, mix well, apply on entire skin twice a day. It does magic.

What do you think about LEAKY GUT causing skin problems? Wouldn't it be better to add pro and prebiotics?
What’s the cheapest medicine for this? I can’t afford apoqil every month.
I have a ridgeback and he scratches near his tail and I give him 2.5 tablets of benadryl. I hope this helps. I love your show and you are precious. Keep coming with more helpful hints.

Get the little Yorkie off all chicken! Even treats with chicken. I only feed Turkey and sweet potato by Nutro. Give half of Zyrtec.

Thanks, Dr. Lindsay!
I want her to be 16, I'm complaining about hiw much I do for the dog all the way to the dog groomers. ;)
Get to the point
My poor dog Kayla has chow chow and cocker spaniel mix and she has allergic reactions every year and every summer she gets hotspots she does have long hair we are on a fixed income so it is hard to go to the vet but I was wondering if you can help me what would be the best thing to use as a home remedy
The comment before yours lists nettles tea. I'll have to try it!❤

Bathing my dog in apple cider vinegar has done incredible wonders for my dog. I also put a tablespoon or two in there drinking water. Who knew right… 😊
Thanks for the advice.
Can you give apoquel and atopica at same time?
Sure am
How do I keep my dog from getting pimples on their face. And what should I put on it to heal it and make them go away?
Hey, Pimples on the face could be from too much oil and dirt building up in pores. Naked dog breeds like Chinese crested get this. If your dog has skin scabs and pus on the face could be a bad infection and you need to go to your local vet to have them culture it and start your pet on antibiotics for now to help. Also, gentle baths of the face using a washcloth and head and shoulders shampoo may help in the meantime. I hope this helped!
And can be caused by plastic bowls!
Thanks for all the information is very helpful. Thank you very much you too.
Very helpful and informative. To top it up she freaking gorgeous
Yup the moment she started talking about these hard-core medication’s. I was through no thank you look up the side effects to those bad boys.
You should be teaching at veterinary school Excellent video!
Is there anything over the counter you can recommend
Baths - Head and shoulders shampoo, bathe weekly or every other week and Benadryl.
My Frenchie is a year and is currently nursing her first litter. Only she is scratching like crazy. She has lost fur and has has red spots. What can i do
Cytopointe worked awesome for my dog. She only had it 3 times in about 3-4 yrs & has been fine since. She’s 15 now.
Cytppointe where can I buy it?
@@socorroescobar8324 Vet gives as injection. My other dog began itching for the 1st time last month & developed hot spots & was miserable. Vet prescribed Apoquel. After 4 days on it, I was able to stop & not continue 14 days. Then only gave him 1/2 a couple times since. Lots of debate out there on these meds. They say if cancer cells/tumor already developing in body, then Cyto or Apo can speed up the cancer. It’s one of those benefits outweighs the risks.
@@socorroescobar8324 vet ….apoquel is pill form …Cytopointe is injection
i have a 2 yr malamute that has dry spots on his legs and by his feet and the hair is gone on those spots will these help him

Thank you for the information
Hi, this is really informative.
My pug has been having some itchy skins around his ears. Like the back of his ears. It is very red now. We got the fur around his ears shaved. And a small area on elbow. He is been given pills, sprays but the redness isn't going. We are putting a collar so that he doesn't scratch but we are really worried😢. Can you help us? He looks so sad in his collar
Go to your vet. Every dog and illness is different, a veterinarian needs to see your dog and make a diagnosis.
@kassyB Research natural remedies and change the diet, fresh food not kibble which is the cause of most issues. The advice this vet gave will only make things worse or relieve it temporarily. Dr Judy Morgan has a UA-cam channel for all issues via holistic approach
Do you have update? My dog has that skin problem too
@@JohnKennethObnial-fv9mt change the diet to fresh food and all the issues will go away. Kibble is the cause of most issues. Don’t waste your money on vets and meds.
My dog is suffering from skin issues from june. he still have itchy, red rashes, flakey skin all over his body. I bath him once a week & groom him everday.
Also Visited vet & tried some shots nothing is working. Im from a small town & vet service isnt that good & they are all after our money so visiting them is kinda useless. Idk what to do now my dog is restless & continuously itching & licking , can anyone give some suggestion?
Try an antibacterial/fungal shampoo..then coconut oil. I would also look for stuff that would beef up his immune system.
Mine was the same ,started food and treats with NO GRAINS.. also using shampoo from vet he seems better . Oh Google apple cider vinegar rinse for dogs
anyone prescribed apoquel and found alternatives that work well? that stuff is pretty expensive and i've read that it can cause long term problems.
