- Let's go on a big 'ol Sonic Adventure, one with plenty of fun levels, exciting twists, and of course plenty of jank. It'll be an adventure to remember. Oh and also Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Big, E-102 Gamma, and even some chao will be there too. I uh... I hope that's not a problem.

I have no nostalgia for this game yet it's one of my favorite sonic titles. It feels like an evolution of the interconnected world that 3K had going on. Like in Sky Deck, you see the ship turning over in Sonic's campaign and don't know why, but then you play Knuckles' campaign and see that he pulled the lever and then you can put the dots together. Your video put my thoughts into words
It's actually really nice to hear this from someone who didn't grow up with the game. It's proof that it is a good game at its core, even if the jank sometimes gets in the way of that. =D
@@DuoStuff i was introduced to sonic via sonic rush, i didn't even play adventure till 2 years ago, when i played it on an dreamcast emulator, and honestly it's the top 3 of my favorite sonic games, the adventure games were the last sonic games to really care about continuity, adventure's world still feels like the same world from the classic games just matured and evolved over time.
if only it wern't janky as &!(#
I literally played this game last year and it's one of my favorite sonic games of all time.
Also I was born in 2003. So I don't want to hear shit about "nostalgia' I also played the dreamcast version
ok, I just wanna say, that is a DOPE ass thumbnail. the way you perfectly divided the 5 spaces for the other characters withSONIC'S SILLOHETTE is just really clever and looks super nice. 10/10 graphic design
I'm actually really glad to see some appreciation for the thumbnail. I spent quite a bit of time on it. =D
Absolutely love your editing style.
Well thank you! I'm always happy to hear that someone actually likes my editing. =D
Aged like fine wine
Well it has for me at least, but maybe not others. XD
No it aged like both
@@Audiblegaming whine mixed with milk?
Sonic Adventure was my introduction to playing a full proper Sonic game, after neglecting to do so throughout my entire childhood. This video sums up pretty much everything as to why I love the game. I could tell that it aged horribly, yet the core game was still so fun and liberating to play that I could easily look past the jank and such. Was sad to later discover that they'd never quite reach the same level of quality again.
And thank you for giving praise to Gamma's campaign! Peak storytelling of the series and great fun gameplay to boot. This series will never get another character like Gamma.
I love me some of that good ole fine wine, 20 years beautifully aged, milk.
I guess I'm in the same boat. XD
I've always loved sonic adventure, people say it aged bad, play it on a dreamcast, its better and i always hate when people just shit on it, which is of course because it is sonic, but people say it has aged, but so has mario 64 but if i were to say that, i would be harassed, someone said it is good level design wise and mentioned mario 64 as well in a tweet, top reply is NEVER COMPARE IT TO MARIO 64 AGAIN, it is janky, broken, aged bad, but is fun, like a certain mario 3d platformer for the n64 i know
This might really bother some people, but even as the resident Mario fan, I'd much rather play Adventure than 64. I think Adventure aged a little harder in some aspects, but that's only natural considering it was also much more ambitious. 64 also has some REALLY bad level design in the last chunk, with Tick Tock Clock and Rainbow Ride especially being absolutely horrible levels design-wise.
I like both, but I definitely prefer Adventure.
@@DuoStuff i feel the same, but i do think mario 64 is good but both it and ocarina i have had this problem where my personal fun with them feels weird because i should enjoy them more, but nope. I enjoy mario 64, but i'm not one of the people who have branded their entire channel around it or something big like that, because i enjoy something slightly worse that tried to be more than something better that tried less because ambition makes me appreciate a game more, same with other media
I agree. Both games clearly aged but I feel like Mario 64 aged much worse overall but whenever I tell people that they use the whole "Well it was the first proper 3D platformer" shield as an excuse as if that makes it better. I'm not denying it was very influentual on 3D platforming as a whole but most 3D plats that came after improved significantly on the foundation set by Mario 64.
I can't wait to play this on my steam deck
Actually yeah, that is a good place to play it.
Too bad Sega still hasn't ported it to Switch, so I can't play it on a handheld. :(

OUR LORD AND SAVOIR HAS RETURNED
EDIT: AND THEY HAVE A FACE
The funny thing is that I've shown my face in several videos, I've just never been consistent with it. XD
@@DuoStuff this is the second time I ever watched a video on this channel and mostly watched video on the older channel
Oh okay, that makes sense. Well if you every head back and watch the older ones though, it'll definitely pop up at some point. XD
My friend only just finished today his playthrough of SADX after I nagged him to play it for over a year lol. He really enjoyed it in a playtime of 3 sessions. He agreed the animations were jank but for a game of 1998 it made sense. The gameplay he enjoyed a lot knux being his fave in the end. Big the least but that makes sense. Over all he said he'd finally understood why after his dissapointment with forces I wanted him to play this! Also cause I break this game on a regular basis lol.
I agree with most of what you said and wanna say you did a amazing video!
Man Forces is one of those games that really just gets worse the longer I think about it. I'm not surprised he didn't enjoy it.
It was, however, a nice surprise that he enjoyed SADX despite its age. =D
I care about this game solely because of nostalgia and E-102 Gamma
also, awesome editing 👀
What are you doin here?
Thanks for the compliment on the editing man! I'm trying to improve over time, so it's nice seeing it acknowledged.
Kinda surprised that you didn't bring up how BIG SOMEHOW FLEW THE TORNADO AFTER TAILS CRASHED IT!!!
Really liked you take on this gem of late 90s gaming. Been playing it since I was like 9 years old, still love it to this day. I gotta get back to my LP of the game.
First: Yeah I guess I could've, but I was trying to keep things quick so I couldn't find a good place to mention it without breaking the flow of the video. XD
Second: Glad you enjoyed the video man. I've also been playing it since I was a kid, so I have a lot of love for it, jank and all. =D
Why do people say the game aged? Like even my kids relive the same exciting moments like I did when put in the situation as I did when playing the game. I don't get it!
I mean I pretty much explained how the game aged in the video. The game janks out a lot, the cutscenes are really rough to go back to, and certain decisions like Big's fishing feel indicative of some of the questionable aspects of the era. I still love it, and I still think it can be enjoyable regardless, but those are still aspects where the game aged.
@@DuoStuff fantastic but does that make it not fun? Does that make it not reliveable? Even now we all have moments that we came together and say this game is great! Sour milk is such a dumb analogy. The game is fine the way it is, it's not perfect, but sour milk? Come on man.
@@DuoStuff The game aged like the days you use to eat cereal in the morning as a kid. As you become an adult, maybe you don't have time and forget about the fun stuff on the box but when you do you never forget how fun it was when you were younger.
I think you're taking the milk joke just a bit too seriously dude. It was never meant to be a serious analogy.
Despite how it looks, I consider it to be the best sonic game.
I miss fun adventures and a variety of characters. I loved the open world. The game doesn't feel like a straight line.
Also chao garden
Now it's just SANIC and straight line levels with a fixed camera
Yeah I know, it sucks that the series pretty much ran in a completely different, and in my eyes worse direction. I miss the ambition, the characters, the actual nuance to said characters. (Shadow and Tails especially have it rough nowadays.)

Thank you once again Kirbo
thank you my lord for blessing us once more
you might just be my favourite youtuber honestly. your videos give me nostalgia, both for what i've experienced and what i haven't. also, you're always hyped, no matter how nyan-neko-sugar-girls-y things can get. nice job.
Well thank you! I definitely do like to get excited about stuff, that's for sure. Honestly, I was even holding back in this video, because I freaking love this game.
i like that energy, keep this up dude
Ah Jeez, another sonic review after a bajillion years….
here we go again…
I'm kind of curious about what this means exactly. If you are thinking this video is negative, you may want to watch it.

@@DuoStuff Oh no!
The cutscenes animations look way better with the Dreamcast version’s character models.
I'm honestly not big on the dreamcast models. They just a little too chunky to me.
@@DuoStuff you’re mom are a little too chunky
Aw yeah, is this happening??
It sure is, whether you want it to or not. XD
Dude. Nice speed highway reference.
I know I'm with the unpopular opinion, but I actually ENJOY Big's story. There is nothing to harm you and there are no potential threats and it just a good time to relax and smell the roses. And I guess that's why people could care less about it.
Also. E102 and E123 are also fav characters I sonic for me as well
Good episode. Always looking forward to your hard woik and dedication!
Chaos are what bring me back. It sooo cool what you can do
Yeah the chaos are rad honestly. At some point I'll probably just make an entire video about the mode.
I replayed the dx version in 7th grade and I remember not liking it that much. I load up the game to play the Sonic levels all the time but I never touch the other stages. Maybe after I beat Persona 5 I can do another playthrough with a really good dreamcast mod Cybershell told me about. I have another friend who HATES it. I think it's alright but your title says it pretty well.
Also 21:30 having the one Amy campaign overlay stay and have 2 more come in looked really good. Proof this channel is underrated.
Love this game so much. Year it came out on Dreamcast I started my own gaming tradition (maybe a video idea for you if you had any gaming traditions?) I would try speed running this game 100% every thankingsgiving the moment I woke up and wouldn’t go back to bed til I did it. Gave me something to do til thanksgiving dinner was done and when parents went Black Friday shopping..... def a great game with some flaws will admit.
The only tradition I really have in regards to games is playing through a Luigi's Mansion game around Halloween. It is pretty fun though.
A friend of mine loves Sonic this will be a joy
All hail Yooou! You are the best!🎶
Lol what brought this about? XD
@@DuoStuff I Agree with you on this game! Sonic adventure was my first sonic game I’ve ever played!
if we don't count the COUNTLESS enhance mods of gamebanana for SADX...

Well to be honest, while it's garbage for games, it's actually great for video stuff. Apple products are really only good for media stuff, but that's exactly what I need it for, and because of it, Adobe Premiere runs like a dream.
Also, again, it was free so it's hard to complain.
My favorite game ever made
Oh really? This is a pretty cool favorite to have honestly. =D
Ready for that sonic adventure 2 video and hopefully hero's then sonic riders all bangers imo
Yep, Adventure 2 should be fun. It won't be the next video, as I have a different Sonic-related video planned, but then Adventure 2 is the video after.
As far as Heroes or Riders, I am unsure about when I'd talk about them. For now I'm talking about the 2 Adventure titles and a smaller subject, but down the road I definitely want to talk about Heroes.
Sonic Adventure 2 is the superior game, both personally and critically, but this one still has some genuinely fun high points.
It definitely seems to be the case for most. For me, Adventure 1 and 2 are on the same level of quality, mainly because while 2 improves on a lot of things, I hate some of the treasure hunting stages. But, we'll get into that when I do my Adventure 2 video. (Got a different Sonic video to do first, but Adventure 2 is right after.)
There are some stages I don't care for, but that's incredibly small compared to not caring for the large majority of SA1's content.
Also. If one of those stages you hate happens to be Security Hall, then I'll just let the first omochao you encounter do the talking.
"All safes are locked. There may be a switch to unlock them in the room upstairs".
Too bad someone else didn't get the memo.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 Actually I freaking love Security Hall. It's one of my favorite treasure hunting stages. The stages I'm mainly talking about are Mad Space, Death Chamber, and sadly Crazy Gadget. (It just feels uncomfortable to play for a speed stage.) There are a couple other iffy stages, but those are the worst in my eyes.
Oh, definitely Mad Space. That stage is massive, and the clunky gravity gimmick doesn't do it any favours. I don't mind the other two since they're pretty fast to play through after some practice.
But anyways, sorry if that reply sounded like I was making an assumption. Frustrations came back to haunt me for a while now.
Oh nah I didn't think you were making assumptions or whatever. Security Hall is pretty despised, so it's an obvious choice.
0:09 That gives me nostalgia
It also does the same for me honestly.
it's actually regarded as one of the best games in the franchise in the fandom.
Well yes and no. It really depends on where in the fandom you look. Genesis fans tend to hate it, but most people after usually seem to love it.
I am obviously in the latter category. XD
@@DuoStuff Oh, that makes more sense. the only people that I've talked to that said they hated it were genesis fans lol.
@@DuoStuff Classic fans dislike anything 3d in reality.
And it's funny too because despite the fact that they never did and never will like 3D Sonic, Sega started catering the games to them.
Cool Sonic
He is indeed pretty cool. =D
18:06 I mean, 15% is a lot. That's almost a sixth of the game, which is something that shouldn't be relegated to a bad fishing minigame. It should at least be _optional._
I agree with you on the optional thing, but I guess 15% doesn't really bother me in the end, especially since about 2/3rds of that 15% is spent watching cutscenes or in the overworld. You really don't play his actual levels for very long.
Only DX had these issues. DC version had none of that jank. Prefer the dx models though stilll. Anything done by Yuji Uekawa is always so good when it comes to how the art is for sonic games.
Of the several people I've talked to who've played the Dreamcast version, all of them have said that there's still jank, just less of it.
And I agree on the DX models, though part of that might be because I grew up with them.
@@DuoStuff And me, having played the Dreamcast version, prefer the DC models.
Even though about 50% of that love is because of the Super Sonic DC model alone, oh my god ITS SO COOL

Well thank you! =D
The parts where you play as sonic are pretty fun and designed well to, but there is just to much fluff
18:06 eh, i'd say it takes up closer to 5 percent of the game, at least for me, an E P I C G A M E R XD
That might be true for you, but it isn't for me. Especially since I watch tbe cutscenes every time I play it. XD
@@DuoStuff oh, i usually skip the cutscenes for big's story, because big is annoying XD
How dare you ruin my childhood with your Critique!1!11!! Jk. Seriously though SA1 didn't age well but even so it's still my first and my favorite sonic game. I don't know but I feel like the game wouldn't be the same without the jank. Not to mention this game made me cry for a robot It still has it's charms I think
It's also my favorite game in the series as well. I honestly don't care that much about a lot of its problems, I just kind of ignore them while playing. It's just too much fun for me to care.
@@DuoStuff Oh yeah same here though I do love to mess around with the glitches though sometimes if I know about them and or know how to activate them such as the store window glitch with the chao egg and stuff
I've played the demo on the Dreamcast
I like the Monika shirt
Why thank you.
My first sonic game was sonic 1 (the remake on mobile), and my favorite is mania. I broke the cycle.
Well it's more slightly changed the cycle, as Mania and the Genesis games are all fairly similar. It's akin to starting with Adventure 1 and liking Adventure 2 the best: they're still pretty similar.
💚
Y'know I don't think that Big's campaign is bad imo. He only has like what, 4 stages?
That's fair, but it still feels pretty out of place here.
I played DX on Gamecube(Emulated, but shhhh) and absolutely hated it. Then I played it a few years later on PC with mods and I like it. It is one of these weird games like Metroid1 where it aged like wine, but only because of fanefforts. Not the efforts of the actual company. Same is actually true for SA2, even tho I liked that game to begin with(And it was ported more competently than SA1 too, lol).
Yeah Sega has been really inept with how they've dealt with ports, especially Adventure 1. It's funny because the later PC port is actually WORSE than the Gamecube one without mods, which is kinda messed up. XD
Loved this game and I had never liked 2D sonics,
Yeah I never enjoyed the 2D games much either honestly. They're not bad, they're just not my thing, y'know?
wOaH! iS tHaT a cHaOs EmEralD?
Nice
He talking about the DX or Dreamcast version? Cuz the DX version released later for gamecube
I said a little bit into the video that I was talking about DX, as that's the version I know the best.
Sonic Adventure is...alright. the ports are just meh. I don't mind the gameplay of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Gamma. Amy...would be alright, if she was a bit faster, I know she isn't Sonic but you'd think the chick chasing him would have some speed or at least get into her sprinting animation a lot easier without having to hammer in the air so much. Big is well...I wanna say patience is a virtue but well...I just find it boring.
I dunno, Sonic adventure is alright but it's clear as day Sonic Adventure 2's gameplay and stuff was a big improvement.
I actually hold Adventure 1 and 2 at about the same level of quality. (Though Adventure 2 might actually be better technically if it's able to compete with 1 despite me having no nostalgia for 2.) I do have a couple of things from 2 that really bother me though, which we'll get to once I do Adventure 2's video. (I have a different Sonic video planned next up, but then after it I'm doing Adventure 2.)
I thought Amy’s story was fun lol
I mean that's fair. I don't hate her gameplay or anything, it just feels a little dull, y'know?
But I love Mario Galaxy's hub world!
I mean you can love it and all, but there's really not much to find or do there.
@@DuoStuff What do you mean? There's tons of things to do. There's the red star that lets you fly and there's the story room where you get Rosalina's backstory and then... Well that's basically it... Yeah ok you might be right.
A Video about Flipnotes ?
I wouldn't be against it, but I don't plan to do that any time soon.

Every game in the 90s has aged.
Honestly I think Mario 64 aged worst than SA1 as it's mechanics just doesn't work properly when it's want to. (I hate the wall jump, as it always led me to my death like constantly, and the controls are stiff as hell.)
I just prefer the far more looser, and floater controls over 64 as it just feels like I'm in control of Sonic in all time.
And just don't get why people easily let Mario 64 off the hook but constantly bashed this game. Like if you call somebody who likes 64 nostalgia blind, than you'll get a stampede of hardcore gamers attacking you, but if you say about it for Adventure than your praised for having the ''right opinion".
Sorry, SA1 is one my favorite games of all time... I'm just tired about the redundant unfair "criticism" claiming this game is bad.
Oh trust me, I agree with you. I like both of them, but I definitely prefer Adventure. Don't worry, id I ever talk about 64, I'll definitely mention that stuff. XD
I don't have a face for being in a video either ;)
I mean I'm assuming you're implying I don't look great, which is true, but I'm not gonna let that stop me! XD
I think there’s something really counter-productive about giving this video such a contentious title and then dedicating so much time to constructively analyzing Adventure while still praising it a fair amount throughout.
Like, if you yourself are stating that Sonic controls better in Adventure than in something like Unleashed or Forces, then that to me is the OPPOSITE of aging poorly, at least from a gameplay standpoint.
Well I'd still argue it aged pretty hard in other aspects, even in its gameplay considering it funks around a lot, but regardless I get your point. I honestly just wanted a title that fit the general feel of the video that was also fun. Calling the video "Sonic Adventure is pretty great even if it's aged a little" just isn't as eye-catching.
Yeah, I figured.
Gotta get those views and I respect the hustle.
Just because Sonic Adventure didn't age well doesn't make it bad. Super Mario 64 has arguably aged just as poorly and people still praise that game to death.
I mean I didn't say it was bad. Quite the contrary, I said I loved it quite a bit despite its age.
@@DuoStuff I wasn't necessarily talking to you.
Oh okay sorry. I was just worried you read the title and assumed I hated it. XD
