As long as a company gets their copper alloy right, and designs a proper tip cavity to assure reliable expansion, they'll have a good bullet. There's already some good coppers being made by other companies, and I have a feeling over the next 10 years almost every company is going to have copper bullet offerings on par with Barnes' bullets. In my mind, Hammer makes the best copper bullet at the moment, but you sure as heck can't go wrong with Barnes. 👍

Nice shooting Who Tee, the Howa/Wetherby is a beautiful example of Gen I Vanguard. The trashy looking Howa being newer and CNC manufactured will naturally shoot better, however I'd prefer the Vanguard any day. As for the copper bullets, it's all about $$$$.

An excellent physics presentation! Besides for long range properties, I was under the impression that the "new" high B/C cartridges were to allow the copper bullets to shoot well. That may be true for .277 and above. But for the 6mm .243, that does not seem to hold true. This may mean a whole new line of investagational research and data collection by Who Tee Who! At some point, we should see a book published, "The plain truth of bullet physics," by Who Tee Who.

    • @Plumcraziness
      @Plumcraziness 6 місяців тому

Higher BC doesn't assure accuracy, nor is it a measure of accuracy. Precise manufacturing and consistency from bullet to bullet is a bigger factor. No matter the bullet design or its BC. However, that is one benefit copper bullets have is that it's a mono metal design, so there are no inconsistencies such as jacket thickness, core inconsistencies, imbalances, etc. that traditional cup and core bullets can (usually rarely) have. With that said, there's no guarantee any given gun will shoot coppers better than any other bullet either. It still comes down to what it likes to shoot, but coppers generally do tend to be highly consistent from bullet to bullet and batch to batch.

That Weatherby is one heck of a rifle! I'd be afraid to take it out in the woods because it might get scratched up or something. Anyone who says the 243 is too small for deer should try this copper bullet ammo. These bullets expand reliably and are deep penetrators, effective on larger game. Plus they are California legal.

Yes the Weatherby vanguard is a howa 1500 barreled action, if you look at the side of your vanguard it says “howa 1500” on the action. Howa supplies the barreled actions and Weatherby puts it in a stock, that’s how they get the cost down to such an affordable level.

Just curious if the guilding metal copper fouling was completely cleaned from the bores of both rifles.
I've read that pure copper and guilding metal don't get along in rifle bores.
Some say to completely clean all copper fouling from the bore and foul with and shoot only copper for the best accuracy.
Others call BS on this and have no accuracy issues when shooting both cup and core and all copper monolithics together.

Actually ""WTW"" - You stated that backwards, the Howa is NOT a Weatherby,,, BUT the Weatherby is a HOWA - for years Howa made the Weatherby action & barrel,,, until Sako of Maine started making the Weatherby's,,, just thought you might like to know that. And now Weatherby is once again making there own stuff,,, just like Roy always wanted it to be...
""WTW"" - what would be REALLY COOL,,, is to see you compare the 338 Win mag, 338 Federal, 338 Weatherby, 338 Lapua - against the
    338-378 Weatherby,,,
even if it was just on paper (the ballistics).

    Hey Bro,
I have NO experience with the copper bullet YET but am preparing to switch over my '06 and my 243 in case my state goes "no lead".
I've been told, however that in order to to shoot the coppers accurately, you have to clean bore down to the lands (bare metal) as if rifle is new and start again with only copper fouling (no lead).
My question is - did you do anything special to clean older weatherby and how new (how many rounds) have gone down the tube of the newer howa rifle?

Amen to that. Just hate to see somebody jacked up for stupidity. No other reason for a law like that but stupidity. Be safe. Keep your head down and your powder dry. Love your channel.

Had some Black talon solid copper 338 win mag, they failed, minimum expansion and penetration was sub par odd that it managed to fail at both.

Those was the early days of copper bullets!! Yup quite common! ( then)
But even today. Many seem oblivious to expansion ( you really ned and expect) from these requires, alot more velocity. Mist makers tell you 2000. But this is INITIATING expansion. NOT AT ALL the mushrooms ya see in your imagination, when they tell you this! Think closer to 23/2400!!!! (Most copper projectiles, not all)

Never fired a cva, I looked at a few and spent my money on the Weatherby and love it so that’s my lopsided perspective lol
