Very moving 💖💖 Thank you Sonny Vande Putte. God Bless 💖💖
This song touches my heart, no matter what im going through....... I know my Lord is by my side, thank u God for never leaving me at my darkest time of my life.
Oh my goodness! This is so Beautiful and Awesome! Love it!
4 years later and I still love this!
Love all your songs, whether by yourself or with the other three guys....but when you sing a wonderful old hymn like this so flawlessly and reverently, there are no words. Please keep singing these old hymns!
Thank you so much for the kind words, Bethany! I really appreciate it a lot :)
I am in awe.
Excellent vibrato in your voice! So angelic! 😄😄😄😇
This is the greatest sound I have ever heard !!!! Bless you my friend !!!!!!!
Amen! God bless you!
Every time I get on UA-cam I come back and listen to this. I've been a musician for over 50 years (violin and vocals), professional for over 25 years,
and I'm absolutely in awe of your flawless execution of this wonderful song. My group played it at my mother's funeral service this past January. I wish we had done it half this well. Thank you so much, and God bless.
+jwtjr999 Sorry to read about your loss. Thank you very much for the kind words though. I really do appreaciate it. Thank you very much for stopping by. Feel free to keep coming back ;).
@@sgtsonny Hello please is the music sheet available?
Hymns like this help me to remember that God is actually the One in control, not the people of this world. Thank you for singing this, and a job well done you've done, and may the Lord continue to bless you and possibly use you for His glory.
Absolutely magnificent!! Thank you so much for doing this wonderful hymn. 😊
+jwtjr999 You are very welcome. Thank you for stopping by and giving it a listen :)
ahhhhhhh key change. my god i cried.
Julie beat me to the punch on mentioning the story -- you've chosen one of my top favorite hymns [and I have 70 decades of loving them!]. Whether or not you're a "religious" man, you are obviously a spiritual one, and you have NO idea what a blessing you've just shared with/shed upon your listeners. Can't see to type any more -- too many tears. God bless you!
+sonyahannah Oh my, thank you so much for the beautiful comment! You're such a kind person. Thank you very much for your loving comment on every video I release. It means a lot!!
OK, Sonny. You DID it this time. Stupendous! Key changes and transitions SO POWERFUL. Made my soul rush and brought tears to my eyes. When Dad died last year (after 52 years in BBS music) I played this song, performed by Vocal Majority, for his Memorial Service. For all you do, thank you.
+Nancy R Koerner Thank you so much for the many kind words, Nancy. I can only imagine how heavy this song must have been on your father's memorial service. Thank you very much for stopping by and sharing your story!
Extraordinary! I pray God uses you to bless others in a mighty way.
Thanks for stopping by! All the best!
Consider that prayer amply answered, pj.
Beautiful SACRED music. Well executed. A true rarity to find something so virtuous, lovely, praiseworthy and of good report on UA-cam.
Thank you so very much for the many kind words.
The power of your voice was genuinely moving to hear - I've been in chorus for years, sang dozens of hymns, but rarely have I heard a rendition so jaw-droppingly gorgeous. I have an immense amount of respect for both you and Mr. Harrington - I've sent this video to my choral instructor in hopes of him using it in our class. Thank you so much for making this - the effort is clear as day - this takes dedication, and I can't say it enough - I respect your talents immensely. You deserve every view.
+Zachary Warning Thank you so very much for the many, many kind words. It feels so good to read how much you appreciate what I do. Thank you very much for sharing the video as well. I hope it can help your chorus in one way or another :). Your message really means a lot to me. I wish you all the best with your chorus! Take care
My friend played this to me YEARS ago, and I’ve been looking for this for YEARS. I found you!!!! I’m not a Christian, but this song and your voice is amazing.
This is one of only half a dozen songs on UA-cam which not only blesses and comforts me but also makes me weep EVERY time I hear it. You didn't know that I needed such comfort today -- but God did. And He gave it, again, through youl
I'm so pleased to hear that my videos can make a difference for some people in ways I never thought they would. Thanks for sharing that. X

One of my favorite hymns from my church going days.
I know, that's why I recorded that particular one... it's that weird? :)
Is the sheet music available for this particular arrangement?
+Tetley02 It sure is. You can get it at the arranger's website: www.studiodh.com. Good luck!
It is well with this song! Searge I just want thank you for these videos! I know it sounds weird, but you are my favorite of all the UA-cam singers!
It doesn't sound weird at all, man! If anything it makes me smile from ear to ear :). Thank you so much for the kind words, Shane!

Right out of the Renaissance era, with a sprinkling of 1948-53 chord structure. Very creative.
I couldn't agree more. David Harrington is a fantastic arranger!!
Wow! I really enjoyed this. Thank you

Wow. What pipes.
Hahaha thanks for stopping by, Mike!
Such a beautiful rendition of this song. I wish I could afford your learning tracks for this song. I've always loved almost anything a cappella.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoy my recording :D.
thank you! this cheered me up after getting a bad grade on a test...
I'm glad to read I got to cheer you up a little. All the best, Adam!

You're absolutely right about that! Music is indeed a great answer to everything :D. Thanks for stopping by. Wishing you and yours a great 2018 as well.
I love this song! You were actually the inspiration for me to right my own Barbershop Quartet for this song. Thanks sooo much!
I'm very pleased to read that I was able to inspire you. That means a lot :). Thanks for sharing that!
Oh, your welcome! Keep up the GREAT work! ^_^
Exellent performance!
Thank you very much, Marcus!
Impressive range for a single voice, from high treble to basso profundo. I'm not a hymn-singer, but this is a good melody and impressive harmonies. Thank you.
You are too kind. Thanks you very much for the kind words.
amazing!! please this score!
+森田佳樹 Thank you very much! You can buy the score from the arranger himself. His name is David Harrington and you can find all his great arrangement on his website www.studioDH.com. Good luck with it!
The power went out 2 hours ago and I have only a few minutes left of charge on my laptop. I've been saving this one for the last video of the night. This is one of my very favorite hymns and I know I'm going to be crying before the end. Thank you so much for recording this, Sonny!
+janetranslates Thank you so very much :). I loved your story!! Hope your laptop didn't give out before the end of the song though :). Thanks for the kind words :)
+Sonny Vande Putte It didn't! I made sure there was more than enough time left. My only regret was having to wait until morning to listen again! This was even better than I expected! Great arrangement--kudos to David Harrington. I don't know how you can pull off a cold modulation like that (at 1:30)! It's hard enough anytime when you do it a cappella, but when you have to do it perfectly 4 separate times--wow. Were you nervous when you put it all together? Were you perfectly synced from the start, or have to put in some do-overs? All four of you hit it perfectly.
Finally: I waited two minutes and fifty-seven seconds (that's 2:57) for that note from high-tenor Sonny. It was worth it.
And for the record: I didn't cry! I'm amazed. I get very emotional over music, but I guess I was just too happy for tears. Or something. I don't know! But I love this. Again, thank you.
+janetranslates You don't want to know how many times I have to do something again. It far from perfect the first the couple of times :D. Seriously, it looks easy, but it's the result of A LOT of hours of work. I'm not as good a singer as I make it seem, I think :D. You don't have to cry to appreciate good music. I rarely cry, but I get amazed by music every single day :). I'm glad you enjoyed it :).
I can't get over how smooth your tone is Sonny. This was extremely beautiful. I also sing barbershop in my local chorus. I'm actually trying to form a quartet for the first time, so if you could provide any tips that would be sweet. I'm a lead but can also sing tenor. Your voice sends chills down my spine every time I watch one of your videos, keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for the many kind words, Devin!! A couple of years ago I was quartetless as well :). Since then I've been trying to form a killer quartet. As a result my quartet 'Maelstrom' has had countless changes in its line-up. Right now my quartet contains members from three different countries, but we're going to sing at the national convention next year to try and qualify for internationals (we qualified for last years, but because we had two members drop out, we were disqualified). What I'm trying to say is: Set a goal before you get started. Are you doing this for the friendships, for the love of music, to get somewhere, to go to internationals and break the top xx? Set that goal and don't be satisfied till you get there!! Don't be afraid to tell people like it is. Life's to short to be held back by people who are going to slow you down. GO FOR IT!
19 second long sustained note. WOW
thats some insane skill
Thanks a lot, Alex.
it is well wt my soul
Great job! Our choir recently performed this for a perfomance and workshop. I love how you also interpret the song :)) keep it up
Thank you so much, Wesley! I hope you guys had a great time performing this wonderful arrangement! I know I did :D
ooh! modern harmonies! very nice
+amiedetherese Thank you very much :)
awesome! i wish i could sing that good too.
Haha thanks a lot, man. I really appreciate it :)
Great work, Sonny, as always. So clean. - Mark (from BarbershopTags.com)
+Mark Virtue Thank you very much, Mark. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome Sonny!! Wow, keep it up! PS: I'm still in the US and so will be next year, do not hesitate to contact me if you plan on coming for contests or something!
+Bitrixa Thank you so much, Bea! Hope you're doing great in the US. Unfortunately I won't be coming down to Nashville for the international competition after all. Two of the guys dropped out in one week's time. So right now I'm looking for great singers again :). Starting from the bottom again. Have a great time in the US!!
Can't say I'd heard it before, but id doesn't matter! IT was an absolute eargasm!
Echt heel mooie klank hier en de overgangen van zacht naar hevig zijn ook fenomenaal.
Keep up the vocal awesomeness!
+Jeno Snetrem You should totally listen to the version as done by Four Voices then. It is absolutely breath taking! Bedankt voor de lovende woorden, Jens!
+Sonny Vande Putte I'd love to, but even I can't find any good version of it anywhere on UA-cam... a little help :) ?
+Jeno Snetrem It's not the best version I've ever heard (because of the audio quality and the baritone heavy mix) but you can hear how amazing they are in this live version: ua-cam.com/video/XToas6eRbLg/v-deo.html.
Gosh darn this is great, u also remind me of the impractical jokers guy.
Haha I had to look it up, but I do understand why you think I look like him :D
Like wow!
Thank you very much!
That was MARVELOUS Sonny, the BEST Hymn I have ever heard in my life, and Trudbol did the same thing as well but in Barbershop Choir version, still it was WONDERFUL, Please write back to Manuel Garcia Jr. Thanks. P.S. Love that Song :)
+Manuel Garcia Jr. Thank you very much, Manuel. If I remember correctly, I think that Julien's version was a different arrangement. But if the original song is good, the arrangement will be beautiful in any arrangement :). Thanks for stopping by, man!
No problem buddy, by the way do you release your videos every Wednesday?
+Manuel Garcia Jr. No no no, that would be impossible for me to do. I'd almost have to make it a full time job then. I still have my job as a live singer and everything that makes that job possible (rehearsing, planning, creating, managing the bands, paperwork,...). I record and release one video per month. I usually release them between the 22nd and the 30th of the month. But I don't have a regular day or so. Right now one per month is the best I can do. My voice needs to rest every once in a while as well :D. Thanks for the interest, Manuel! Take care
Your Welcome, so I guess your right your voice needs to rest for a while or a day, and Julien must rest his voice too, so I'll just give him a break he is a good guy and so are you, could you pass this comment to Trudbol if you can, if not then that's okay with me buddy.
+Manuel Garcia Jr. Thank you very much for that, Manuel. Take care
I love this chord 2:08
❤️
Woderful!
+Gary Rector Thanks a lot, Gary! You don't happen to be family of the great Lester Rector who demonstrates an incomperable lead to this hymn with Four Voices?
+Sonny Vande Putte I know of Lester Rector and his amazing tenor voice, and he sure looks like my Rectors, including the red hair, which prevails in our family. On top of that, I think he's originally from Tennessee. (Our folks are found all over the South, with especially many in Kentucky, Tennessee, and North Carolina.) If I knew who his parents and grandparents were, I could probably trace a relationship. There's a family saying that the Rectors die singing, and this has actually proved to be true in a couple of cases I know of. We all sing and play at least one instrument. Anyway, it's obvious from your great videos that the Vande Putte family also turns out fabulous musicians. I look forward to hearing more of your singing.
+Gary Rector Haha what a great story about 'the Rectors' :). Unfortunately My family isn't musically gifted at all. But who knows, it has to start with one generation, right? Maybe the future Vande Puttes will be musicians :D. I'd love that :D. Thanks for comment!
Because your gmail address would not allow me to send you a St. Patrick's Day card, I'm wishing you a blessed day regardless of your "Irish blood" [I have perhaps 1/8, if that much]. You are in my prayers, mainly in gratitude for the incredible comfort that so much of your music brings to my soul. May you and those whom you love ALWAYS be blessed, not just on St. Patrick's Day, and may God reward you richly for the gifts of music which you so freely and graciously share with thousands of people whom you have never met.
+sonyahannah Oh my, thank you so very much for the many kind words and wishes. I'm so happy to read that you feel that way about me and my recordings. I wish you and yours all the best as well. I surely hope I can keep bringing you joy and comfort with my music. Knowing that is the greatest feeling there is. Knowing that my music makes a difference :). Thanks for sharing!! All the best!
Why did you choose to change the two minor chords (specified by the arranger) to major (which is more common)?
Thank you for this great example of musical harmony.
If you don't mind me using this as a forum to express a personal opinion: The Christian church in the United States seems to be dying. There are some other factors but I think one of them is the failure of Christians to encourage our children to study the great hymns of the church and especially the great harmony to be found in such hymns. Our daughter is a semi-professional musician and sometimes helps with music during worship services but most of the people of her generation don't even know how to sing musical harmony. Those who might otherwise be encouraged to do so are discouraged by the hymns being sung in keys enough lower than they were written in the hymnals that it make it difficult to sing parts. Maybe some tenors can still sing the alto part but the singing of harmony is not being encouraged very much at all. I think social harmony might experience a revival proportional to a revival of an emphasis on musical harmony. Thanks for doing more than most people to do give us examples of such harmony.
Very clean. Could hear all those beautiful harmonies clearly. Only quibble, dynamics would have added something.
Listening back to it now, I totally agree :)
hello. I would like to do this kind of recordings (just for fun): what kind of software (preferably freewere) could I use?
Hi Marnix! The freeware is quite limiting, but if you're just starting out I suggest you look into using 'audacity' (www.audacityteam.org/). Good luck with it!
hey sonny I got a question for you: Do you talk Dutch? Want Vande Putte klinkt toch redelijk Vlaams.
Wow
Thanks, Joseph :).
Amazing voice! What software do you use with this?
Thanks! For the audio I use Presonus Studio One 2 and for the video I use Sony Vegas Pro 15. Thanks for stopping by!
