It had been almost a week since I'd posted this video and I’d played the game four times since… and I finally realized that you can put more than one die on the monk space! I’d been racking my brain with this campaign scenario, doing the math on how you could get to the 22nd space and I discovered my mistake while I was teaching some friends the game! No wonder I found this so hard! Just goes to show that even an extreme stickler about the rules like myself can make mistakes from time to time! I’ll have to give this another try sometime with that correction in mind and see how I do! Sorry about that, everyone! 🙇♂

On the shelf is a toss up between Honey Buzz, Architects & Viscounts of the West Kingdom all in their solo modes so I can learn them and teach them when it is safe to have game nights. However, no other game will matter when Endless Winter arrives in the early part of the year and Distilled arrives in the later part of the year.
Three great games! (I haven’t played Honey Buzz yet, but it looks great! I’ve played the other two!) Endless Winter was my first Kickstarter game ever and is currently my most-anticipated game of all time! Can’t wait to get it… whenever that might be! I’ll bet Distilled is an awesome game, too! 🥃
It really is! I love the modular player boards so you can really see your tavern starting to flourish! And the randomness with what guests you get each night is really fun and thematic! Plus you can play solo! Definitely a game worth checking out! 🍻

I had no idea ToT could be played solo but it looks incredible and may have just saved this game in my collection! Now I just need to find time to play it...
That’s like my favorite comment on my solo videos-that someone didn’t know the game could be played solo! The solo variant is so simple to implement and there’s literally no rules overhead! You should definitely give it a try sometime! And it doesn’t take long to play; my last solo play without the expansion only took 30 minutes! Hope you get a chance to experience the solo game! 🍻
@@BoardGameDave Played 3x with a high score of 177. I think where you went wrong is the three notches at the top of the monastery board should be flipped to the sides showing schnapps. With this extra schnapps available you'll be able to upgrade the monk on Turn 3 using the second entertainer's upgrade ability (three schnapps from Turn Track bonuses, one from the monastery track, and one from the reputation track). Another nice trick is to buy a Server on Turn 4 so they are available on Turn 5. At the end of Turn 5, spend a schnapps and use the third entertainer to bring them back for Turn 6. Repeat at the ends of Turns 6 and 7 and you'll have a guaranteed extra die for the last four rounds of the game!
I love that you went and played the game solo three times already! That’s awesome! What were your other two scores? As for the schnapps tokens on the monastery board, they’re supposed to be flipped face down (non-schnapps side showing) starting in module 3 and therefore in modules 4 and 5 since they each build off of each other. The game is a lot harder with fewer ways to get schnapps and I keep thinking about how to move 19 monastery spaces in just eight rounds! (14 if you assume you’ll get the three monks.) It’s such an interesting scenario and I really want to try it again just to see if I can beat it!
Great tip to top-deck a server and then keep some schnapps in reserve to keep top-decking it with the juggler at the end of each subsequent round! I tend to use the other side of the juggler (set a die face) but I’m wondering if I could play better with the top-decking ability! Nice suggestion! 👍🏼
@@BoardGameDave Module 3 Setup does tell you to flip them down, but at the end of M3 Setup it tells you to "set up the rest of the game as described for Modules 1 and 2", and the M2 setup tells you to flip them up. It's a bizarre, easily missed order of operations thing that only applies when M2 and M3 are played together. Other scores were 121 and 142, but I know I made a few errors so that round is questionable.

YES! Created by a BGG user named Anna2001 using Warsch's semi-official solo mode! And guess what? It's originally in German! 🎉 The rules are under Files on the BGG game page and it's called "Tavernen im Tiefen Thal - Solokampagne". I hope you get a chance to give it a try; you'll have to let me know what you think! That campaign is just for the base game, but you can play the regular solo mode with the expansion! I might do that for a solo play sometime soon! (Yes, they recently translated the expansion into English and I just got my copy!) p.s. Yes, that was a big mistake on my part! I had totally forgotten that the monk space can take multiple dice! I put a note in the top of my description for this video but I didn't realize my mistake until a week after I posted this video! IIRC BGG did a Review on the German Version of the expansion and had translated the rules themselves^^ During the Pandemic I played lots of "Solo" on ToT but not with a concept behind it. I usually played 2 Taverns by myself. (With the Expansion comes "Hero-Cards" in form of Innkeepers with different Special Abilities. And I played multiple times with each one to figuere out their playstyle. If you got the expansion, you'll have lots of fun =D It adds so much more strategic depth to the Game^^

I think the 1st campaign is easier when you chose the Abbess as your Innkeeper and you can also get the Priest as a card. The Carmer with winecellar might be good for the 2nd campaign and so on. I was also thinking about an "endless mode" of sorts, in which once the moon reaches the end, something happens, and then you start on turn 1 again, with more or less the same Deck & Guests and just continue on and on. I haven't come up with any "strategic removal" or something at the end of a cycle. Maybe you shuffle your deck and remove 10 random cards and reset your Guestbook. (New Page on the book, and some Staff may quit or Guests visit some other tavern, storytelling-wise) the Bar-Guests and Entertainers go home and have to be recruited again. Somethings like this.

You can use Warsch’s original solo procedure (re-roll two dice and remove a guest/guests) with the expansion modules, though! I really like your “endless mode” idea! I love that you thought through the thematic rationale for getting rid of the cards! You could also throw in the caveat that your regulars can’t be removed in this manner! Sounds like fun! (You could just put your new deck back in the box to “save” the game and then set the game up another time and continue your endless campaign!) ☺️

Correct! The starting cards (one of the modules) tell you what cards to add instead of your usual starting three cards that you add to your deck of regulars! Great question!

I was wondering how they’d pull off a hidden movement game solo but it says the app allows for solo/co-op play, so there you go! Definitely some unique ideas there for sure! 🧠
@@BoardGameDave I own it, but COVID has once again shut down group board gaming so it, like so much else, remains unplayed 😩 ToT played really well solo, but I think Mind MGMT would really benefit from the social interaction of live, human opponents. What about something like Black Angel, Era: Medieval Age, Rococo, or Aquatica?

Unfortunately I don't own any of those four games you mentioned but I have played Aquatica and I'd love to play the deluxe version of Rococo and Era: Medieval Age, for that matter! I didn't know that they could be played solo; I'm so glad you recommended them! I could borrow Aquatica from a friend to try the solo mode, maybe! I really liked that one at three players!
