I am a principal and I hope to goodness I would NEVER do any of these things! My goal is to ALWAYS protect my teachers….they have the hardest job in the building (along with the custodians of course). I believe it is my job to be there for them, to be of service to them. Sometimes that looks different. Sometimes it is having hard conversations. Sometimes it is putting things in place to correct a behavior. Sometimes it is cutting out lamination for them, running copies for them, finding them a sub, covering their class so they can go to their child’s pre-school Christmas program, covering their dismissal duty because they came to work feeling like crap b/c they could not find a sub and they needed to go home and go to bed……every day it is something different but it is all for the same goal and purpose. Helping those who are working the front line to teach children day in and day out. They are dedicated to teaching content AND providing/creating a loving and safe environment so the whole child is taken care of. I could go on and on. Teachers are the most over-worked people in my building and they are my heroes. I have a job b/c of them!

Sadly some principals too busy protecting themselves with a safety circle of minions to block them whilst micro managing all the wrong staff, it is so strange. Look how many stories this clip has triggered, which shows you how common it is. I was screamed at by a parent and verbally abused for 20 minutes, I just let her talk did not intervene, she threatened me etc., because, wait for it, her son did not come to reception to pick up what she had dropped off that she should have given him either the night before, or that morning. Son not fussed at all. When I put in a written complaint myself and asked for stages warning letters to abusive parents, lots of schools do that and a sign regarding respecting the staff, like lots of places including train stations have and a barrier ....radio silence!

Principals like you or my principal who also happens to be supportive, is what will make us teachers WANT to work for the school and the kids in our school! Sure we could use more money, but ultimately we want what youre saying support and respect! You seem to do that and if so, then may I say you are doing an amazing job! My principal does this and has created a family atmosphere. This makes it a wonderful place to work with despite what challenges we face and what hard work we do as teachers. So if youre this principal and no one has told you, THANK YOU for all you do

Teachers who feel supported and respected are all around better teachers for our kids. A teacher who is respected at work will enjoy being there and enjoy teaching our children. The children are the most important part of education and they only win by having a teacher who likes being at their job.

I quit teaching FOR GOOD two weeks ago! Your videos crack me up because this stuff really happens! What sent me out the door mid October after the worst year of teaching last year? My principal called me into the office along with the head of school. She said that she received 3 emails from PARENTS of 8th grade girls, who said that I asked a 7th grade girl in my advisory, over my microphone, if she was pregnant!! How did 8th grade girls hear anything from my 7th grade advisory? I thought of your funny videos immediately, and even told my principal that I thought this was UA-cam worthy! I laughed. But seriously, that was the final straw after a ridiculously long list of lies that kids and/or parents said that got me called into the principals office. I only worked at this school for 2 years, but it was the worst bunch of parents I have ever seen! I tell everyone I know to NEVER become a teacher for all the reasons that you list in your videos. We all start out loving our profession, but after years and years of decline in PARENTING, it is a terrible job. Keep making these funny videos :-) because all teachers can do is laugh about their profession at this point to survive. Thank you for the fun!

Got called into the principals office because a student had called me a whore in front of the whole class. I sent him right to the principals office, they called the parent to pick up their child and the parent had the audacity to say that they wanted me to explain why their child would call me a whore because frankly I must've done their little angle wrong in some horrible kind of way. Instead of talking to me first, my principle called me into their office with the raging parent in there and made me defend myself against said parent who was absolutely positive that A their child didn't call me a whore (whole class heard it) and that B I was making that entire thing up to put the child in a bad light. Principal didn't even say a word im my defense. Talk about feeling supported and safe in your workplace.

Jesus. My GF once had a parent deny that his son had hit another boy; they had it on film. The school CCTV had recorded this kid just walking up to one of his classmates and punching him.
He (the kid's dad) then accused my GF and her colleagues of singling his son out: the kid was swearing at his teachers, shouting abuse at strangers who were walking past the school, and threatening other students in front of the whole class. Which the headteacher (principal) did nothing about, which of course in turn meant that the rest of the staff were severely limited in what they could do to discipline this child (the kid was 11).
It's terrible when you can't rely on your manager to support you. I'm genuinely worried about my GF's mental health; that kid has left the school now, so she's certainly happier with her new class, but if something like that happens again I know that her idiot boss is just going to leave her high and dry again, and I'm going to see her cry about a job that she used to love. Again.
OK, that turned into more of a rant than I expected; apparently I have stronger opinions on my GF's boss than I thought I did. The point is that I'm sorry that happened to you; a bad principal can be incredibly damaging for a school and everyone in it.

I once got called into the vice-principal's office because he was suspicious that every time I showed up on school grounds to do my job, the students "seemed unusually happy". No one complained to the principal to get me called in there. The students at that school LOVED me, and I adored them as pupils in return! We always got good work done and the students respected me through and through. But, this VP had the most fragile ego and used it as a reason to scapegoat me to the entire faculty. Then he fired me at the end of the year because of a personality clash, even though he had it in for me and I didn't do anything to provoke his jealousy. Well, except for my doing my job the right way (for people whose heads are still on planet Earth, that is). I appealed to the school principal, but he took the VP's side. Grow a pair, dudes!

We had a young blond kindergarten teacher walking a mixed student out of the classroom hand in hand, nothing unusual. A couple minutes later as they're walking in the hall, the boy throws himself on the floor scream while holding onto her hand. A faculty member, saw it and instead of going over to help, they watched and reported her to central office. So there was a big investigation and everything. After it was all over, then the principal wants to approach her during dismissal and ask her how she was doing. Kindergarten teacher was busy getting her kids ready to have small talk. Then the principal comes up to her and says, "how do you think that boy is going to feel when he's older thinking back on this and remember that a white teacher was grabbing him". 🤯 like what the ****! that kindergarten teacher transferred after that. I don't blame her...

If they thought that kid was in such peril, they should've immediately intervened by checking on them both to see if assistance was needed 🤦🏾‍♀️ I've had my niece throw a tantrum randomly like that in the store. She was still latched onto my hand. Thankfully the store was family owned and the lady knew she was just having an outburst as 5 yr olds do, and no other customers were present.

Oh great video. I have some wils stories like this to. I was told that I looked too young to teach. I was given a book by the administration so I could learn how to deal with children who are being abused. A book. No specialist, no councilor for the kids. A BOOK. Then we had weekly meetings, no extra pay, to discuss how we felt about what we read. Are you kidding me.

I liked the principal at my school. I once upset my teacher and she sent me to the principal and told him what I did. Then he talked to me then explained how I wasn't wrong but how reacted was wrong. So he explained to me how to act better for my teacher and to be aware of others feelings. And we had soda and chips while we gave the teacher a bit of space and made it look like I was in big trouble. I listened to his advice and never had any further problems in the classroom. He also would make me peanut butter and jelly sandwiches anytime if I was hungry. We where a small school.

    • @jeanhind8198
      @jeanhind8198 Рік тому

Melanie, this is both a funny story and, sadly, the indicative of the mess modern educators have got themselves into. Many generations of school children have studied Romeo and Juliet and the vast, vast majority didn't even think of committing teen suicide because of it! Putting stickers on the books mentioning it just might bring it to the attention of some today, though...!

I didn't have a morning duty, a homeroom or a first period class by the way. Some of this is just honestly petty, controlling nonsense that teachers have to go through, honestly.

I had a principal who made a practice of driving out one SPED teacher every year. When my turn came, it was so much worse than I imagined. He asked my co-teachers to report to him any and everything I did, like being late to class because I had to escort one of my students to every class because she kept getting in trouble in the hallway. He placed me on a PDP that was impossible to complete, including individualized lesson plans for every one of my 98 students every day, (I was splitting my time between 8 classes in 2 grades) and not having received any plans from the teacher I was working with was no excuse. He called me out of lunch at least 3 times a week to accuse and berate me. The final straw was when he called DFACS and said that I was mentally unstable and a danger to my child. He won. I quit. I would have loved to teach somewhere else, but he blackballed me to every district around, to the point where I couldn't get hired as a substitute. I should have sued him, but I was so traumatized that I couldn't even work for a year much less hire a lawyer. And we don't have unions in the South.

One year, our last day of school was May 25. I worked on SATURDAY, May 26, in my classroom to finish all the required work and reports for POSTplanning -- no students -- because on Monday, May 28, I had to have emergency gall bladder removal. I had weeks of sick leave, no problem there. The surgery was delayed, and I didn't get home until 7 pm that Monday. My principal called me Tuesday and demanded to know why I wasn't at work. HE had been the one to receive and sign off on my sick leave; he had the doctor's note. He then told me he was not accepting my sick leave request for Wednesday, which was a half day, 8-12, even though all of that was already requested and signed off. The next year was my last year of teaching at that school.
