Great update. Do you notice any flavour differences between jabos? How old is your canistel, had fruit yet? Everything’s looking really good, so abundant now!
Cheers Ben, the scarlet and red hybrid are sweeter than my others, but I love the sweet/tart of the grimals. Not sure on the age of my canistel, probably 4-5 years and had a couple of fruit last year, it better set more this year otherwise it has a date with a chainsaw.
Is that sabaras and grimals? My in ground sabaras and grimals didnt fruit either. I think it was too wet in winter, jabos need to be dry for a while in winter then wet in spring to induce flowers. Hopefully all that fruit energy is saved for next year!
@@dougs_urbanfarm yeah the big trees are Sabaras. The other guys are too small. My reds, yellows and whites. You got a cool mix of trees in your videos. If you have time do some taste tests. We have access to the lemon drop mangosteen. Is it good? We can’t grow mangosteen here in California.
@@thehydrosource yeah the lemondrop mangosteen is like a mini achacha, a little more sour. I love garcinias hoping for achachas next year on my 8-10 year old trees. I would love to make more videos, hoping to slow down my business over the next 5 years so I will have more time to spend at home.
Thanks for the great update Dough! Is your jackfruit a grafted tree or a seedling? Do you remember at what age it started fruiting? I grow several jackfruit trees here in Florida Zone 9B, but they don’t have chance to develop fruit due to the freeze events. I’m hoping that they’ll become more cold hardy with age and eventually give fruit.
All my 3 jackfruits are seedlings as are my 2 jackfruit/chempedek hybrids. We don't freeze here as I live on a hill in a suburban area. Our coldest nights are about 4deg C ( about 40deg F) and we don't have a lot of them, makes growing tropicals easier.
Great video Doug, really enjoyed it! Looking great 👍
Thanks Johnny.
So interesting wandering around your property. An amazing amount of fruit trees you have. Hello from Newfoundland 👋🙂
Thanks Greta, I love waking around the garden, so relaxing.
All looking really good Doug
Pinto de Mel has taken off
Nice grafting work 👍
Lol Neil, I learnt from the best.😉
Everything is so lush, pretty and productive. Amazing jabo collection 😍
Cheers G.

I would love to get a Branca Mel, they sound amazing.
Jabs growing fast even in winter up there Doug 🌴 My red hybrud is trying but just too cold - the Jacks look great 👌
Cheers Mark, yes it is a bit easier up here.
Hi, please can you talk about canistel and how best to grow the tree. Thank you.
I planted my canistel trees in the ground, but have not had a lot of fruit. So I am not sure if I am doing right by the trees yet.
Thank you for your reply. I have 2. Trompo in ground and oro in pot.
Awesome bro.
Thanks mate, jabos are awesome!
Yeeeeaaaa Great Job 🍀🌱 I hope my scarlate will fruit soon
They are so sweet, I love them.
Nice update Doug. What the heck are casaros? What is the botanical name please?
Psidium guineense
As Griffin said , they are commonly known as Guisaro. Well common amongst us fruit maniacs.
Of course! I know it as Brazilian Guava.
@@HowlettHill oh yeah that name as well, lol!

Wow mate, what a great season you have had, well done 👏
Cheers Paul, been wet and hot this summer, good conditions for tree growth.
Good to see how well the Pingo De Mel is going. Has the rootstock taken over the black Brazilian cherry?
Can't see that it has, not even sure if it was grafted, have to look back at my daleys records.
I dunno what variety mine is, but it's doing nuffin. Ya rubbing the salt in here mate! LOL.
Haha Andy, the sabara jabos are slow growers.
Thanks for the video Doug! I love Jabo's. For some reason mine are not fruiting this season.

Do you have room to plant out the Jaba’s, or are you going to leave them in pots?
These guys seem happy in pots so they may stay. I already have about 10 other big jabos in ground.
What type of jaboticaba to get for fast fruit?
Red hybrid, escalate, açu paulista and costada all fruited at 4 years old. Escalate bears the heaviest.
How old are they?
The scarlet and reds are 5 years old
