I really hope you continue with these gothic tutorials!

This is an excellent tutorial. I really appreciate you sharing it with us. It's the answer to a problem I had in modeling a jet airliner nose and windshield areas that technically baffled me with its complex intersecting curvilinear forms. Thanks.

It's a little slow that you spent 90 seconds creating a shape you can get with the Circle SOP set to Open Arc and Arc Angles 0-60. Don't mess with "magic numbers" like you used in Carve SOP if you don't have to..

Even though the video is a bit old, I hope you're still reading this.
I'm currently an absolute beginner in Houdini, so forgive me a little for the question and criticism.
First of all, from the tutorial point of view, it clicked a little quickly. Sometimes you can't even click pause fast enough to see what just happened. Well, it works at 0.25 times the speed.
But what I haven't found is where the group "abseams" suddenly comes from.
Maybe you can help me with that, just so that I understand Houdini better and don't have to search everything again at 0.25 times the speed.

OK, I found it. But one question remains. How do you plan a project like this and then implement it in Houdini nodes?
There has to be some kind of workflow that you can easily follow.

Hey, sometimes I do step by step tutorials and other times show only the workflow, I usually assume my viewers have some familiarity with the software. This was actually my first project while learning Houdini if I can remember. So my advice to new users is to do the work and when you get stuck you can watch a video or search in a specific issue. That's how I learned so far. It also helps when learning Houdini to have some background in 3d like Maya blender or other DCC. But in a week or two you'll be much better believe me, there are many resources here on UA-cam. Adrien Lambert has some excellent videos that you can follow. Good luck on your projects and if you need some assistance send me an email, I'll do my best to guide you. Cheers

@@cgside Oh, please don't get me wrong. I think the tutorial is very good. It's just a few clicks that obviously take place between two frames while the menu is open and you select something, so you don't notice the selection, even with pause. That's actually the only real point of criticism.
But, that's why the second question, which is perhaps more important, because dealing with the "Houdini" software is one thing. But is there somehow a procedure for preparing to implement such a church in these “nodes”? I mean, those are plenty of nodes. Or is this the point where you say, at some point you just know what you have to do?
Well, another problem could be that most of the tutorials are in English and that's not exactly my native language.

bet you came from Intro to Houdini for 3D artist

Hey, yeah learned a few tips from that one, but had this idea of building a church with Maya, just didn't know how to tackle the procedural workflow there, that's why I jumped into Houdini for this project. Cheers

@@cgside I intersected two circles to make the arch, and no matter which boolean process I choose, nothing appears in the viewport, both circles disappear completely, even though I've tried boolean on two boxes just to test and everything works as intended. And yes I've made sure the two circles aren't completely covering each other 100%, I'm aware of how boolean works
