      @Jarod David lmao trained police officers firing a random number of shots into the dark when they're the ones aggressing on someone else's property and they dont even have confirmation that he's armed or dangerous? Also if it's dark as you're implying then theres no danger to the officers because if they cant see him then he cant see them. They literally smashed him with 15 bullets from 40 feet away...40 feet...no confirmation of a weapon, and they just go off on him like it's target practice

      Some cops put fear of policing’s personal consequences over their professional responsibilities. When some police feel threatened, their ethical code tells them to fire first.
      There’s another option. Soldiers know shoot-or-not scenarios well. A lieutenant, near Fallujah, Iraq, they had teenagers that would come a little too close, linger too long, near their fighting positions. Were they bored kids? Or feeding information to the insurgency?
      One hot day, they started firing golf ball-size rocks at them with a weaponized slingshot. The right strike could have killed. Several soldiers wanted to shoot, which would have been justified. But they held fire - in part because soldiers expect to risk death.
      Philosopher Michael Walzer calls this moral principle ‘risk acceptance.’ He tells the story of a World War I soldier that heard noises in a house’s cellar where enemy troops recently passed. The decision: toss in a grenade to eliminate the threat, or the chancier choice, to clear the underground room and ensure it wasn’t filled with civilians.
      That soldier didn’t throw his grenade. He went in and found civilians. This is proper moral conduct at war, which is to say, ‘if saving civilian lives means risking soldiers’ lives, the risk must be accepted.’
      This warrior’s code shows up in less formal ways, heavily influenced by Tennyson’s line that warriors are ‘to do and die.’ Consider the saying among soldiers and Marines, ‘death before dishonor.’ Or paratroopers that sing, ‘If I die on the combat zone, Box me up and ship me home.’ In northern Iraq, Kurdish fighters are called Peshmerga, which translates, ‘those who face death.’ Collectively, these underline a truth: soldiers expect death may come in the conduct of their duties.
      The slingshot kids? They were just bored. They'll never know for sure, but at least they didn’t create several new insurgents, or enrage a family and city.
      Similarly, good cops, when called to a burglary, upon finding an open door and likely subjects inside, do not pull back and call an artillery strike. They maneuver into the building at no small hazard to themselves. They accept the risk because that’s what police officers are expected to do. This is the professional standard

    • @catinahatify
      @catinahatify 5 років тому +52

      This is a FACT! I'm an OIF Veteran and we could only fire when fired upon, Most of the men in Iraq would walk around with AK's but we couldn't shoot them just because we were afraid they might try to shoot us. This should be a concern for all people in America.

    • @noodles5438
      @noodles5438 4 роки тому +9

      Jose Cuello The man was being followed by police cause he matched a description of man that they needed to follow. Turned out he was that man. When police followed him and found him he was standing normal but when police announced their presence he pretended to pull a gun turning out to be a phone. My guess classic suicide by cop or trying to make the cops go back to cover so he can run away. He held it in a stance that would signify a pistol firing position. Police were un-able to see as it was in the dark of night and they decided to make several shots. Also they did not know all those shots would hit or if he would die. Awhile back a cop shot over 16 rounds in a guy and he still shot back. It took 3 head shot to make him stop and even then vitals showed on him. So the amount of shots I believe are justified. Also you think cops join cause they want power? Sure a few pathetic ones do but most join to make a change. There was was a cop who joined after the LV shooting. Or the other cops who joined after police were unable to help him when he was child. The problem with cops and people is mistrust and misinformation that circles with the media, the public and the police. I believe the cops did a good job with the info the got but the main problem was that the media likes juicy stories and this one seemed to fit. The police department should have sent out the report faster so the public can under stand the incident better. Police are not perfect, they have human flaws and sure a few are bad and should be fired or arrested but they do keep us safer than if they were not around and that I am glad for.

      Lets put this in perspective. It's dark you can't see anything a suspect will not put his hands up or take his hands out. He takes out an object and point it at the police officers. If he had complied he would not have been shot. It is horrible that someone died but the police acted appropriately. And if cops were not armed why wouldn't anyone commit crimes. The police wouldn't have any possible way to stop extremely violent people . And what if there was a shooter how would the cops stop him?

  • @MilVetGaming
    @MilVetGaming 4 роки тому +17

    Pretty obvious to me they thought his cell phone was a gun. I do think it is a problem when they did not broadcast they were the police; However, if he was out committing crimes then he knew they were the police so it wouldn't really matter. I think Clark moved toward the police because he was going to sneak inside the home and thought that when they jumped behind that corner it was his best opportunity. I think the door was locked so he knew he was caught but the shots were quickly and subsequently fired.
    How can these tragedies be prevented?
    1. Don't be a criminal... especially at night.
    2. Don't wear hoodies because they scream "shoot me"... especially at night.
    3. When you are in the act of being a criminal always keep your cell phone in your pocket... especially at night (even though he was probably calling someone to open the back door but he had time to put it back in his pocket).
    He did not deserve to die, of course, but often the way we die is a reflection of how we choose to live. He made two children fatherless and that is sad on top of him losing his life in all the confusion.

You come around a corner and 25 feet from you is a guy holding something RIGHT after you said MULTIPLE times to show your hands. In an adrenaline situation, split second- you see a gun, and you unpeek. When you repeek he moved even closer to you. What makes this unjustified??

    • @ncooty
      @ncooty 5 років тому +8

      +Zachary Lambert
      1) Like the police, you appear to be seeing what you want to see rather than what is. Where do you get that he "took his phone out"? You seem to be fabricating an action you would like to construe as something that might look like pulling a weapon, yet I know of no evidence for this action.
      2) You are asserting that lethal force is justified based on what cops assume. The worse the cops assume about a suspect, the more violent they can be. You are justifying the presumption of guilt as well as summary judgement and execution.
      3) Police fired from a covered position with no civilians around. No one was in imminent danger. They've been trained and equipped as if they're paramilitary, and they acted as such.
      Many conservatives are reflexively obedient and defensive of authority. They're eager to undermine due process and other constitutional protections out of misplaced senses of fear and duty.

      Castlehill650 I think because maybe since the police officer just said "show me your hands" without stating that they were police officers. The man could have possibly thought that they were Intruders trying to rob him.
