- I tried Pirelli Smart Tubes and I was amazed at how fast they ride, but it was too expensive to replace these TPU plastic tubes when they kept getting punctured.
I tried the RideNow TPU ones and I have been using them for more than 10 months with great results!

Being using ridenow tubes for 6 months with no issues at all. Highly recommended.
I too have been on these for a while. Great ride. Comfy and smooth. I much prefer these tubes over Tubeless with sealant.

Rim or disc brakes?
They are excellent - I've been running them over the summer and no problems at all. They are tiny in the box, so even carrying a couple of them as spares makes life easier.

This might be one of the most underestimated cycling channels on YT. I think a lot of your advise is actually from your own in-depth experiences, its this is really easy for viewers to take that information and apply it to their own riding. I have been using them for 6 months now and they hold air pretty good. About the valve leaking you mentioned, I always do the tire starting from the valve point, but I will push the valve in a bit before fitting the other side of the bead of the tire into the wheel. I found that when push the valve in, it give more gap to do the tire without touching the base part where the valve is connected to the tube.
Anyway really great that you give TPU a second chance after 3 punchers with the Pirelli TPU

I really like them got them cheap of Ali express too, they do feel different. Main thing i prefer i can now fit 3 spare tubes in my saddlebag instead of just 1. So if i am super unlucky and get a double flat i still have a spare 😂

I think they addressed and fixed the valve issue. I ordered mine from Amazon, and they came with a clear colored valve instead of the black one. Supposedly, the clear ones are the fixed version. We'll see. Nice video. 🥂

What pressure you pump the tire after patching ? Witch glue to use if you don't get any in patch package, as Fede says ?
@@tomib.4327 I always pump 85-90 PSI. As I said, I did not use any glue. I was on the trip and only had a patch with me. In fact, the patch is strong and sealed the puncture well, waited 5 minutes, carefully inflated the tire and drove off (I had a second tire and was not afraid). Now I’m watching and I don’t see anything wrong. It descends slowly, like a standard TPU
Long live rim brakes! I descended the Mont Ventoux on rim brakes and TPU tubes with no problems. Last year I had a blow out on latex tubes.

Have been using ridenow tpu tube for the longest time and all i can say is excellent
I’ve just started using these and am quite impressed, I got mine from Panda podium and they work out under £7 each when you buy 6.
To me they feel the same as a Conti race light or Vittoria latex tube, nice and fast rolling but just lacking a bit of comfort when compared to a tubeless set up.
I wouldn’t ride a tube like this for mountain descents abroad, on a carbon wheel, this is where tubeless shine, but I would have ride now tubes as my backup, the ability to carry two spares at 70g total is great.

I love TPU Inner tubes. I’m buying the ride now version and paying between eight and nine dollars each so they are very very cost-effective. I usually usually buy four or six at a time and I end up with very very good pricing with free shipping usually
Big fan here...far better than tubless, lighter too...
Rode two years without punctures on tubolitos and gp5000’s before going tubeless. TPU tubes is a no brainer because they take so much less space in the saddlebag
I've been riding with the Vittoria Competition Latex inner tubes for about 6 months now and I cannot recommend them highly enough, so much faster than a standard inner tube and (touch wood) I have had any punctures and I have ridden over a lot of bad surfaces gravel etc. The only issue is that they lose a lot of air (a known issue apparently) so I am pumping the tyres up at once a week a small price to pay. They are approx. £15 each but mine came free with the Vittoria tyres I purchased.
Yes, I settled for these tpu as they are only marginally slower than latex, but hold pressure well and cheap enough to replace.
I use victoria laytex. Latex ( and tubulars) always leak air. That is normal. I do plan on trying some tpu. Hmm i wonder if they are “noisy” as i heard somewhere. For me the sound is very important

@@secretagent86 thank you! I noticed a slightly different sound from tpu tubes, yes. Difficult to describe exactly, but more swoosh.
I don’t ever plan on using these types of inner tubes but it was informative and entertaining nonetheless 👍🏾 I use inner tube sealant and I’ve found it to be extremely effective as I’m not fussy about the weight savings.
I have them since April and today experience 1st puncher, the difference is that i have been able to ride quite a while and they dont burst as butyl tube do. However it might be also nature of puncher.
I noticed as well that they lose air slowly comparing to butyl.
I started using latex tubes a few months ago. Such a lovely ride. I prefer the michelin tubes because the valves stems are stronger but i use vittoria, too. I dont care if they are heavier (made of brass).
What is the pressure retention? Do you have to inflate every day?
@fede1275 in the past 24 hours, they have gone down from 102psi to 80 and 78psi, after a 2- hour ride. Definitely need to pump them up each day but it takes less than a minute.
350 miles so far on Cyclami tubes (the green ones with threaded metal valve stems, same sort of price as the Ridenows) with Conti gp5000s. No problems so far. I also have bought but not used yet, another brand on Ali, the ridiculously named Offbondage brand. Ridiculous name aside they look interesting. The tube itself is purple in this case but the valve stem is anodized aluminium and has removeable valve cores.
Not sure how they come up with those names 😂. Good that more brands are coming!
I carried 2 Schwalbe aerothan with me as spare, but at time of a flat tire putting the co21 16g on it the valve blew out, then i put the second spare in and the valve blew out also. There was i with no spares left. Back at home I put the valves in again, pumped the tire with a normal footpump and no problem at all.
I used CO2 with RideNow without problems. My device has got a screw release and I usually try to inflate very slowly. I also have a push one, but never used it on the tpu tubes.
Been using them for a couple of months and really like them. Am slightly wary about leaving the bike in the hot sun. First time I used them left the bike on the patio in the hot sun while I was putting on my kit and shoes. Has a tube failure which may have been pure coincidence, and just a bad tube. I haven't had a reoccurrence, so hopefully just a one off. No punctures so far, but summer and don't get many anyway. Punctures more to do with tyres anyway I think.
Yes, for me as well worn tyres and dirty roads are the worst for punctures.

I bought 10 from Aliexpress and have put four in the trash so far. First three cam pre punctured with leaks at the valves or holes in the tube. I've fitted fourth to Sumner bike wheels which is not being used presently. It goes flat in 32 hours. Total waste of time and money. However I've had excellent results with Cyclami tpu tubes which have metal valve stems. Absolutely no problems whatsoever.
I never had a punctured one, but I had issues with the valves. I found out you have to be extremely careful when fitting the tubes, not to squeeze the valve area sideways at all, it is very delicate there.
Luckily, my Pirelli SmarTubes haven't failed yet, and I'm riding 35 miles daily, but I bought a few Ride-Now TPU tubes just in case. It's pretty noticeable how much lighter and responsive my bike feels after switching to TPU tubes.
Who knows, maybe I was unlucky and I could still be running them if I did not have those initial punctures. Definitely the performance improvement is tangible. Also to lose 200g from the bike you need to spend big on all other components.
19g and 24g are recommended for disc brake only, 36g are fine for rim brake
I use 24g version for a few month. Really like them. There is also 19g version available
I might give the 24g a try when I need to replace them!
I've fitted one to the front wheel. Haven't tried it yet, I'll go for a 50 miler tomorrow and see how I get on. I'm slightly nervous so I'm taking a couple of spare butyls.

Had a huge blowout with a TPU tube this morning. Blew the tyre off the rim. Fortunately it was the rear and l managed to stop ok. Back to regular tubes for me 😮

I switched to latex vittoria tubes at the beginning of the year. I haven’t looked back since.
Do you need to inflate at every ride?
@@fede1275 For me, it’s every day/ride. On normal days no problem as I would check the pressure anyway. A bit problematic on vacation because you need to have a proper pump at hand every morning.
@@SrFederico yes, one of the reason I might not go with latex yet, sometimes I don't have time in the morning and I commute even with my better bikes.

I’ve been on Ridenow for months.. for me, they are so much better than tubeless. I tried tubeless for a few months and it’s just too much of a mess. I gave one too many friends the tpu pearl necklace. Lolol. And I was on the receiving end of a few as well.: but no more. I’ve gotten to the point where I actually find out who’s riding tubeless and stay clear. I’m tired of getting sprayed with tubeless sealant and it getting all over my bike, it’s a giant mess Too much of a problem too much extra maintenance. Lol
now that tpu tires are getting cheaper it’s a no brained.. right now I’m getting them at about 8 to 9 dollars a tube by buying in multiples .. there is no way I’m going back to tubeless.
These things are extremely light, extremely fast, and so much simpler. I carry spares in jersey pocket and hardly use any room.

Sounds good. RideNow is fantastic. Besides losing weight, it is probably the cheapest weight weanie mod one can do.
Had my first ride on these today… I bought 4 and have 2 in my saddle pouch, they hardly take up any space. Have to say they felt great and are as cheap as chips. Goodbye tubeless sealant messiness and faff, riding TPU from now on. Fed, when installing the tyre onto the rim, start opposite the valve and work round evenly each side so the bead at the valve goes on last…..saves pinching the valve and also allows for more “slack” with tight fitting tyres. 👍🫡

Thank you! Sure, the reduction in weight is even more substantial when considering the spares, I always have 2 for longer rides. Unfortunately my McLaren frame has been retired, I could not negotiate anymore the multi million pounds deal with Philip Morris! Now I have the same one, but smaller size in silver.
2 Ridenow exploded on my bike ! one during an ascent (I'd be on hospital for long if it happens on a descent), another one, while I was sitting nearby and drinking a beer (there was no sun!). there are some weaker spots at tube joints which expand/get thinner.
no probs with Tubolito though. (my mate rides Cyclami without problems as well)
Very disappointing, I'm glad you did not have an accident. I guess QC is the biggest challenge on some of these products.

After 7 months and cca 5000 km, today i have a first puncture, but is very strange, it's like past needle thru one side of tube.
It takes a two little holes, one above other.
I have looking few times for cause in tyre, but nothing !?
All in all, i'm very satisfied with them.
Not sure, it's annoying when you can't find the cause of the flat.
9000 km with pirelli smartube until the first puncture :p
They do another set now, there even better, no leaks
I guess for rim brakes it's only the 36g
@@fede1275 no, the braking system you use matters not. it sits inside the tyre the same, the only difference is to the ally valve which holds air more effective.
The Ride Now patches that came with my tubes don't require glue.
Will have to check again the ones I have!
Ridenow tubes: weight - 10 out of 10. Rolling 10 out of 10. Puncture resistance 0 out of 10. So, on your ride, how many time do you win with these tubes??
At the moment I'm getting a better performance than butyl on punctures, but I'm afraid to say it 😄
You need to be careful not to squeeze the valve area when fitting them as the area is fragile

I use Vittoria TPU, total garbage, they leak at the seam after 3 days, Vittoria won’t replace it unless I send the old ones and pay for shipping both ways. I will try yours.

I have been running TPU with rim brakes and carbon wheels, so far (touch wood) they worked really well, even in Mallorca on long descends.
I have been using them with the same wheels as Fred vision sc55s and they have been fine, I am a heavier rider 90kg and not had any issues anyway.

Ciao, I believe the core is not removable. You should get the 85mm valve size in case. The 65mm valves are okay with my 55mm Vision wheels.
The tpus pop too easily for me Ive already gone through 3 of these in less than 2 months. Beware they pop easily if your riding on roads that are not always smooth

@@fede1275 the same pink ones ridenow tpus newest lightweight 24g. I think 24g is too light and thin and easily pops for me. Even a small micro tear the tube is toast

My patch kit did not come with the glue and I haven't used it yet
I used them too for 3 months ok. However I found that they leaked air. Every 2 days I will loose 10-15 psi. Checked for small holes, nothing.
Maybe rhe valves were leaking?
Hello Federico, I bought the Bianchi Oltre Comp this week. Now I would like to save a few more grams. The TPU hoses from Ridenow came to mind. Luckily I found a video of you. Now to my question: After 5 months since the video, would you still recommend the tubes? I need it for the Velomann rim which is 55 mm high (65 or 85 mm valve...?) I have now installed the Continental Race light tube with 80 mm valve. I also mounted the Continental GP 5000. The hose still weighs 85 grams. I would be happy to hear from you. Kind regards Tilmann
Yes, I am still using RideNow TPU tubes, the pink ones at 36g each. I have the 65mm valves on my Vision 55mm wheels, my pump can grip and I like that they don't poke out that much. They are addictively fast comparing to butyl. Make sure not to squeeze sideways the valve area when fitting the tyre, otherwise it might leak.

One last question so I won't be annoying anymore on Friday afternoon: I weigh 71 kg and ride the Continental GP 5000 in 28 mm. Your tip with what tire pressure?
@@tilmannschwenk8472 I am using 25mm GP5000 with the Hyper wheels that have a 21mm channel, so I am around 90 PSI and I am 87Kg. I go a little bit higher with the GP5000 in 23mm with the Vision wheels, they have a slightly narrower channel.
@@fede1275 What valve lengths do you use with the Hypers? I've ordered the same set (46mm deep front and 54mm rear) and want have the matched valve lengths.
Great advice on being careful around the valve, that's a very fragile part of the tube that I may not have been so careful with.
Is TPU OK to use with co2 inflator?

Mine lose a little air,,, but it’s not an issue really as I only add a couple pounds when I dont ride for a few days. Definitely nowhere bad as latex

For me that was not the case. Butyl were very stable. I read that the producer mentioned that new valves are holding the pressure better. Mine which I ordered first and than later were same. Either I got those with not so good valve or there was no improvement. Approximately they loose 1-2 bars/week and also with the pump I have it's not so easy to pump them, since the valve is not the same as on the butyl. All in all it's really to nice to ride with them also perfect way to save a lot of weight. Who doesn't like tubeless they are perfect option. Best regards from Vienna

When inflating RideNow or any other TPU tube, how were you able to get it to the desired pressure? After each stroke on a floor pump with RideNow, the pressure gauge returned to 0 in contrast to butyl
Check your pump attachment, it does not happen with mine

Hi, I don't run these sizes myself, but I believe they will fit just nice. They would make a difference on the surface you intend to ride.

I use between 90 to 105 psi, I need to check if they have a maximum limit printed on.
Didn't know about anybody experiencing issues with rim brakes and using TPU. Feels more like a kind of "anti-sue safety warn" than a real problem.
Both Pirelli and RideNow are recommended for discs and rims, I just wanted to point out that there are some concerns, but I also did not come across any real world instances.
How is air retention with the TPUs?
Same as the butyl tubes I used to run before. No issues for me.

I usually puncture between November and February, winter and dirty London roads is the perfect combo
For the price of these and their never ending improvements over butyl, I can’t see me ever recommending butyl ever again.
Also agree with the punctures. Once something has gone through the tyre it’s game over no matter the tube.

This is BS, everyone who have used the Pirelli Pzero tubes know that the Pirelli is wayyyy better than the rainbow. The only better about the Rainbow tube is the price. additionally be careful when install the rainbow because they are very easy to get pinch, also check the joins of the rainbow tube as soon as you received them. trust!
Maybe the Pirelli are marginally better, but definitely I can't justify 5 times the price.
