    Could you ever see yourself owning a Yamaha Niken or other 3 wheeler?

      Absolutely not! A machine nobody asked for.

      @@h2489-m2l I can't see myself buying one either but I did change my mind drastically after riding one. I recommend getting a go on one if you can

      @@ILikeMotorbikes If they will bring back those lethal three wheel trikes (ie single wheel at the front) then I would love one of those! I could also cope with a Grinall Scorpion or a Morgan three wheeler, but this gives up too much for me in what a motorbike should be.

      @@h2489-m2l Interesting you say that you'd rather a Morgan 3 wheeler over one of these yet the Niken actually rides like a normal motorbike! I'd love a go on one of the Honda or Yamaha 2 stroke trikes from the 80s though, we can agree on that for sure!

      @@ILikeMotorbikes I'm comparing apples and oranges clearly.. I was just trying to think of all the three wheeled vehicles I wok be interested in. From your review these things offer front end stability and grip but at the expense of weight.

    I've had my light grey Niken GT three weeks now and absolutely love it, so much so that my superb BMW R1200RT has not had an outing since. What was even better is that I picked up a 0 miles 20 pre-reg off Autotrader for £10,650 (there's still one up this week at Wigan MCs, where mine came from). I've had some pretty distinct performance cars over the years (including a Jaguar XJ220) but this takes the crown in terms of having people coming up to chat about it.

      Excellent and what a bargain that is!! A brand new bike yet nearly 50% off the list price, you have done very well there so congrats to you. It's incredible how it gets people talking eh? It's not the right bike to buy if you're anti-social that is for sure. Wishing you many happy miles on your new purchase

      I've just bought exactly the same bike from the same motorcycle dealer.
      I collect it next week.

    I rode one of these at launch. They did the Niken Tour of the UK and when the tour arrived in Matlock I just walked up and got a go (there wasn't a queue)
    I'm a Yamaha fan, own an MT10 and a Velocity moto XSR900 and I was impressed how the bike handled the corners and how it could brake in corners like a 'normal' motorcycle doesn't.
    I was asked to fill in a questionnaire at the end, would I buy one??
    At the time the answer was no but it doesn't stop it from being very good.
    Think there is still a sneering undercurrent amongst regular bikes who think this isn't a proper motorcycle (it is in my opinion) "Have you bought it because you lacked confidence on two wheels?"
    If I had the cash I would buy one and store it. It will eventually become a rare classic. It's still a beautifully engineered Yamaha 👍

    • @ILikeMotorbikes
      @ILikeMotorbikes  2 роки тому +1

      I totally agree! The bike is typically dismissed by the majority of riders purely based on looks. I think it's a fantastic option though and it handles and stops incredibly well. It's a shame Yamaha once again produced an exceptional bike that the customer base wasn't ready for.
      I don't think I would own one any time soon, but I'd happily ride one all year round!

    It's an awesome machine ,I got a bargain 1 year old gt version 10 months ago which I believe will be a keeper .It brings a new view to riding and fantastic security in all weather conditions .It's my preferred way to travel .You can wring it's neck without complaint if you wish to and it's fun .I actually prefer the LCD screen over my duke tft as it never has glare issues .Ride it hard fuel economy is 44mpg ride to speed limits etc and 55 mpg has been possible .The only downside I've found is the wind noise ,not turbulent air from the screen is bad for the pillion as they are sat a bit higher .

    In about 1980 I had a low side in the wet on my Suzuki X7. Just bought a Niken (2021 pre-reg, 0 miles) for £8K! Amazing machine, absolutely love it. Smooth, comfortable, fast, corners like it's on rails and so planted at high speeds.

    I think Yamaha is on the right track. The motorcycle world has been pretty much the same for the past 100 years. And you see futuristic movies with weird crazy bikes, I want something like that!. Like the tomahawk, i think the leaning multi-wheel technology is on to something. One of the reviewers said "if the Niken is the answer to a question no one has asked, then I have to wonder who has never asked why did my front kick under in the corner? or why did i lose it on the wet road?" I think the question should be...Why Hasn't anyone asked the question? Oh BTW, I'm a current Niken GT owner.

    • @ILikeMotorbikes
      @ILikeMotorbikes  3 роки тому

      I think you've hit the nail on the head actually. Yamaha solved the answer to the question nobody asked... But that doesn't mean the question shouldn't have been asked! Without innovation and engineers trying many different things there is no progress so more power to them.
      I think in general, Yamaha seem to have the bikes spot on at the moment. The Niken might not be for everyone but that doesn't stop it actually being a bloody good machine in its own right. I hope you have many happy miles with yours 👍

    It would be the reason I would get back in to riding a bike. I would buy one. I like the quirkiness. I like the engineering. I like the tons more grip at the front, and the "sure-footed-ness" of it. Having had a nasty low-side when I was younger, it also appeals. I had an hour on one and thought it was fantastic.
    I really don't get why all the autistic screeching occurs around this bike. Just ride what you want and move on, nobody cares.

    • @ILikeMotorbikes
      @ILikeMotorbikes  3 роки тому

      That's excellent to hear 👍 the engineering is something that blows me away in honesty, it must have taken a lot of work to make something with three wheels feel near identical to two!
      I agree I'm not sure why there is such strong feelings (mostly negative) about this bike but I'd wager most people who feel very strongly, do so mostly on the basis of looks and not having ridden it.
      Wishing you all the best and hope you get yourself a Niken soon

    I had a GTS 1000 it was a good bike, if what you wanted was a tourer. I have often thought about the Niken as I like Yamahas and I like quirky bikes and it doesn't get much quirkier than this! My only reluctance would be does the two front wheels make it too wide to filter? And does the suspension linkage at the front run out of lean? I would certainly try one if I got the chance....

    • @ILikeMotorbikes
      @ILikeMotorbikes  3 роки тому

      I think the overall width of the Niken isn't that much different to a bike with hard panniers but it's definitely not going to cut the mustard in the densest of London traffic I think.
      The front does run out of lean at around 45degrees lean angle (if memory serves correct) but beyond that and alledgedly you just start to push the front side much like you would in a car
      Definitely recommend having a go on one! They don't come much weirder than this I think!

    • @TheVickersDoorter
      @TheVickersDoorter 3 роки тому +1

      I've not done any city filtering as yet on the Niken, but I have on various dual carriageways and congested motorways, all without width issue.

    • @simonhughes-king
      @simonhughes-king 3 роки тому

      The front wheels are not the widest part of the bike. As per filtering on any bike, its wingmirror avoidance.

    • @ILikeMotorbikes
      @ILikeMotorbikes  3 роки тому

      @@TheVickersDoorter Good to know, I did expect it wasn't impossible but may perhaps require a touch more consideration in town/city traffic

    This bike is one of my favorites!
    They should make an a2 license one. This bike is amazing for 1 reason and it's the handling in the wet. I personally think 3 wheelers are dumb bit this one looks good rides good (from what I heard) and the wet handling is superb so you won't be scared as shit....
    They should make a version with a lot more hp a version with 44hp and a middle option (the current one) and it will be one of the best bikes to get as a daily for all over the year....
