I bought a 2021 pre-reg Niken about 11 months ago. Zero miles on the clock. Paid £8k. Wow. What a machine. Super comfortable; quick and corners like it is on rails. My 60 year old pillion, she loves being on the back. I'm 62. by the way.
I enjoyed your review Dan. It’s the limo ride quality that I love combined with the cheeky confidence inspiring handling in sketchy conditions. Haters out there will never be convinced, it’s their loss. It does look like a kids toy but, it puts a smile on my face on every ride.
I bought a 2019 with 4000km back in February. I love it for highway driving. I live in rural Australia and therefore spend a quite a bit of time on highway. On Oz they are $28,000 new. It is a great bike but not $28,000 of great. On the other hand, I got mine for $16,000. It was the best sub-$20k sport tourer I test rode. BTW, everyone does stare. So, so many people drive by pointing at it. I've only ever seen one other one in the wild.
Stunning scenery. I have never ridden in Wales. I bet the Niken is great to ride. Shame it doesn't stand up on its own. I don't look down on Nikens as one of my machines is a Can-Am F3-S, although I have four conventional motorcycles. It's a shame more British motorcyclists are not more open-minded. I think it's cool, too. I didn't know Mossy had crashed one. Good video, Dan. Nick J
Thank you. I've long been very tempted by the Niken and had started to think that it had been forgotten by the reviewers with very few mentions of the 2023 model. Great video
I've ridden the old Niken, perfectly good motorcycle. Great cornering grip and front braking. I just don't understand why you would buy one over a Tracer 900. You would definitely need to be able to take the sniggers and p1ss takes from the "you've bought a trike" brigade. Definitely some used or nearly new bargains out there.
@user-sw2lv3zp6o Yep it's a shame. It's a motorcycle that needs to be ridden to be appreciated. I took out one of the first press bikes to arrive in the UK on the Niken tour. Rode it through Matlock Bath and it certainly created a crowd wherever we stopped.
I just don’t get the other way around. Double contact patch and you’re golden 🤷♂️. I’m much faster on wet tarmac then with mi Cbr 954 RR… of course it’s me ☺️. I’m no Rossi …
Good review BikerDan - thank you. I tried one at my local dealer and was blown away. Fantastic grip, comfort and gives so much confidence! Just bought a 2020 GT for less than £6K so my only comment would be is a TFT, manually adjustable screen, revised engine and rear suspension worth the extra money? I am not so sure. But agree entirely that people should go and try one before commenting!
I have the 2021version and have 32000km on it . I still love it . The only time i buy another one will be as it has more cc. But for the moment im very happy with it
I feel this model still needs a few visual improvements. It’s status as a sports tourer was spot on though ani think, this needs to be bumped up to a 999cc at least.
Not the first time Yamaha has tried something different, in 1993 they brought out the GTS 1000 with its hub center steering and the “Omega Chassis Concept”. 😉
I'd have no problem owning one. Riding bikes is a bit rebellious,so i don't give a toss what anybody else thinks and with todays shite roads, knowing I've got thise two puppies out infront, what a hoot. The two downsides for me is the price and the tank range, I hate fuel stations, so a bike that can't do at least 200+ miles, no ta
Yep full A, tbh at 16 grand there's absolutely zero chance of me either affording this abomination or being unusual enough to be seen on it. Get a big susuki, yami, honda, Kawasaki like a normal person 😂
My 2019 model has a silver Decepticon badge on the radiator at the front. Looks super menacing from the front from that alone. Only exterior mod i have, its super clean!!
I've always been intrigues by the Niken. It just looks so different and wonky. Almost the way people will say something is so ugly it's cute. I wouldn't turn down getting to ride one, but I don't think I'd ever be interested in buying it. Love that Yamaha is willing to put out something so different, though.
You keep saying "we". Afraid of being alone? What's wrong with saying "I'm on", "Bike has", "It's got", "It's equipped with"? WHITE VAN - stop, you're not Missenden KID and it's actually a good thing. Finally - bike is A M A Z I N G so thumb up. It's designed for mouldy and muddy countries like Blighty and in theory it should be lots of them here but in practice it's convertible cars instead.
Das mal ejemplo cuando haces un vídeo con exceso de velocidad y de hecho no dejas que se vea el cuentakilómetros. Mala enseñanza para todos los que vais. Os tendrían que multar.

That's an absolute bargain!
Where are you from please say
@@gobindabehera4147 South coast of England (Stubbington). Got the Niken from Wigan Yamaha : o )
All I can say is WoW. This video was so beautiful. I love that scenic route through the mountains. That bike look good too.

Comfier than a GS, that is a statement no doubt. Definately a GT. Amazing vid and the views... OMG!!! Trully stunning scenery ❤
You know if I had the space, this would be on my list as well. But I need to build a garage first
It looks fantastic, would love to try one 🙂
I love your content you’ve become in my top 3 motorcycle channels to watch keep it up 👍🏼
Have to say I’m very interested in one of these. I’ve had RT’s, FJR’s and GS’s. I quite like the look of it. Nice review 👍🏻
Very beautiful nature ! 👍

Sniggers which only the Brits make. Plus maybe Australasians and Americans. See my post above. Nick J

Might be a dumb question but why the two wheels up front I’m just wondering the point
More grip, and to be different I guess.
Thank you for sharing this cracking video I would love to travel to wales amazing roads something to aim for in 2024

That was a great bike. Nick J
Yes, it doesn’t look like other motorcycles but I can’t hate on it before I have tried it. I bet it rides really good
Tracer 9 GT which I have?
Kept that quiet or have I missed something?
And where's the review on my bike to?
😀
I love the whole “white van” thing in the uk. Don’t understand it, don’t need to. Just love it. 👍🤪🇨🇦

Great stuff!
Great review, looks like it handles really well. Thanks for reviewing it.
Thanks David.
Got to agree ! Looks a sight but hey each to their own 🤷♂️
Why does it need a side stand?
Very nice best v.
See them in a lot of televised professional cycling competitions in Europe.
I’m interested in the tyre wear, does it have an overly front end weight/wear bias/
Can this be ridden on a car licence? Pretty odd looking but interesting none the less! 😎👍 just answered my own q, no it cant classed as motorcycle.
No. You need a full A Licence
Yep full A, tbh at 16 grand there's absolutely zero chance of me either affording this abomination or being unusual enough to be seen on it. Get a big susuki, yami, honda, Kawasaki like a normal person 😂
Ooh lovely pickup
Drop 50kg and I’m sold! Love the concept.
About the same money as the Tracer 9GT plus, so which would Biker Dan buy for touring?
I love this bike. I considered getting it. I didn't because of london traffic but if I was living anywhere else I would
Does it oversteer?
I also think it looks cool…but not as cool as a MTS 😅
It feels more like it understeers tbh.
I’d give it a go, even if it does look like a baby transformer! 😜

Sam Porter Bridges would be amazed

I like this but probably a bit heavy for me at 66
I have to say that I wasn't keen on it at first but it's grown on me quite a lot, but unfortunately I can't afford one or any bike for that matter.
It only looks weird when you're off the bike. From the onboard footage, it just looks normal
I like this bike its quirky
Consumption /100km
If it had a boxer motor and BMW badge it would sell like hot cakes.
From the factory? Yeah, why not. Out of warranty period? Cagiva Mito Evolution anyone?
Props to Yamaha (and Piaggio for their earlier scoot) , i'm glad it's here, but its not for me.
It’s just to weird looking for me Dan
Gonna turn more heads than many other bikes... not sure if for the right reasons 😂
Chain is killing Yamah! The rest is OK!
Not sure I understand. Considering 99% of all Yamaha motorcycles are chain driven.
Needs a hayabusa engine
Wrong brand. R1 engine maybe?
ヤマハナイケン

The front of the bike is so ugly. Other than that, it looks okay. Bet you would get through those front tyres quickly!
It's an abomination.
Wasn't he a snowman?
It only looks weird when you're off the bike. From the onboard footage, it just looks normal.
Agreed😂
Ugly, if you want 3 wheels you might as well have a reliant robin 🤷🏻♂️
