I’ve owned my AP1 for 11 years now, will never get rid of it! ☕️🗿
I love the idea of taking everything special about the car and emphasizing it. Boosted or K swapped engines have the same energy as LS swapping an RX-7, just turns the car into something it was never meant to be.
Always rooted for J's racing on hot version, lol.
So you're saying an LS in S2k is the way to go. got it
J's Racing is fucking awesome. I buy ALOT of their parts and none of them have ever failed and perform amazingly.
+1 point of coolness for S2000: cult following of insane people willing to overthink every corner of the car (myself included)
Is there another way?? Hahaha
This is the way.
I have or have had all the cars listed and others. The S2000 is the most awesome, mechanical and most engaging of them all. Great little car.
I loved the format of this video. I owned an S2000 for 5 years and still thought this was an informative video with practical points on all sides.
A couple questions if you could share more?
1. How tall are you and is that a limit for tracking it or can the platform accommodate tall drivers with the right seat choice?
2. Did you consider safety as a con? It is a very small car after all. If I were to track it, I’d have a rear roll bar and not a cage.
Agreed brother. Yeah my 2005 s2k is completely stock with 23K miles on her. Actually taking it to track next month here in NJ. All gonna do is slap on some fresh honda brakes and change oil. I really love using penzoil ultra 10W 30. Ran her 2 years back and she didn't burn anything. So much fun. Wow 90 in a turn I was doing about 70 il try and push it this time around
Excellent video and discussion, enjoyed it . ../I'm building an S2k F20C1 to fit into an Triumph GT6, going to be fun and fast......I've some front lock-dn that i'm working on, old British iron was built for 135bhp at best....going to get interesting, but fun ...for a '67 GT6.......Turbo or no??
I owned EK Si, DC2 GSR, and S2000 and rev'd the engines out to redline at every outing. The build of power at high RPM and the sound that Honda engines make is bliss for those that love to drive.
Agreed!
Well said! Enjoyed the video and agreed with all your reasons for choosing the S2000 :D
Love your build philosophy! Can’t wait to see it on track!
Thanks! I did get it on track a two weeks ago. My last two videos are about it. I will get some in car soon! Thanks for watching.
Bro, just come out and drive the damn thing already! I'll be waiting for ya if you make it back out to CA again.
As soon as the intake is done it's on!
Subbed. Have an S2K of my own that I’m starting to build track mods for, the underside aero is something I’m very interested in
Pinnacle of the golden era of Honda cars . . .
Couldn't have said it better myself!
Nice video! One of the cons of tracking an S2000 is the cost of replacing an engine and limited avalability vs. a Miata powertrain for example. I would still rather be on track with the S2000. Driving on an S2000 on track and the backroads and just a special experience.
@@apolloandratti7922 yeah, the F series is expensive. That's why most are doing K which IMO is not quite as good but close.
FD2r would have been an excellent choice... CRX with a k20a would be epic too
Every single car (vette aside) that I would've considered myself was on this list. Well done.
Thank you, MRS is another I considered but forgot about.
@@brookhammerschmidt4464 nice. That was on my list too. With a k20 of course.
@@EK4B16A2 of course
Decent car for the right class. Hard to campaign a stock one against some cars they used to class it with. Best of luck, don't bin it to win it.
NC owner here: heavily considered an s2000 but the two things that steered me away were 1, the starting weight. and 2, the actual price of modifications vs relatively identical mods to another chassis. that honda tax is real!
NC is a great car! And yes I agree the s2k is too heavy!
Just in response the cons (I'm also a honda fan boi and love the NSX and the S), maybe a controversial topic but the differential has been something I've been trying to work through. I think the transmission can also be a weak spot as well considering the miles most of our S2000s have these days. Would be nice to have a place that could rebuild these to something track reliable to match the motor.
I guess I have been lucky because I haven't had any issues. This may change in it's new form. Puddy mod can beef up the diff but as for the trans I know PPG sells a dog gear set up for the stock box.
I tracked a 2001 s2000 with every Comptec add on including supercharger. Aprox 400hp. Never broke any parts on road racing. Broke axils at the drag strip. all other parts no failures.
So... my AP1 s2k like many others does burn some oil specially when driven hard. You say it depends on which oil. I've tried many different oils as well as two weights 10/30 and 5/40 and it still burns the same amount. Perhaps you know a brand and weight I haven't tried yet? What do you recommend?
It might just vary engine to engine. I was using Penzoil Ultra platinum but I think they changed there formula and not for the better. I just started using the Motul competition oil.
@@brookhammerschmidt4464 Penzoil didn't work for me. Haven't tried Motul. Going to that next!
Wow sick car! Now I love my black AP2 even more, I have rock chips on original paint. I’m afraid to get it repainted, what wheels are those?
Thanks! Both cars have Advans in them. RSIIs on the street car. RZF2s on the race car.
epic thumbnail 😂
I drive my car on street only, no track. What aero modifications are you doing? anything worth considering for street use? Just thinking if my car is a bit more aero-efficient, when driving spiritedly on the back road, might get more pedal response out of it. Also when cruising around, might save just couple percent of fuel? Also would you consider carbon fibre prop shaft? It is lighter and it’s rotational mass.
Spoon top is a good one to be more efficient or a basic flat bottom. You just need to make sure you keep the trans and diff cool. I will be doing a carbon prop shaft in the future.
As a S2000 owner, I'm debating if I should K swap at this point since F20c engines are just so darn expensive and are tougher to rebuild but we'll see. I am kind of tempted to also look at a F20c2 block and build that to mitigate the oil burning issues (which my S2000 has unfortunately) and benefit from more experienced Honda development
What is your preferred oil? Excited for the build progress!
Pennzoil Ultra Platinum has worked great for me so far.
Whats the absolute best oil you recommend for these cars?
I'd stick to 10w30 or 5/10w40. And motul competition oil seems to be the most legit I have found.
@@brookhammerschmidt4464 I’ve been using Amsoil 5w-30
Is it worth switching over to motul?
Is there a reason the C5 Corvette wasn't on the list? I know the C6 ZO6 is just Big Daddy but the S2000 and the C5 seem to be as similar as they are different
I kinda lump C5 and C6 together. But I think the 6 looks better
@@brookhammerschmidt4464 I agree the 6 looks more modern but the 5 has a lower drag coefficient and weight. I'm a long time S2Ki guy and owner but a C5 just seems to be a good starting platform. Other than torque tube shenanigans....
i drove C6 and s2k on the canyon on summer days. i always thought about reliability. the c6 i can see the temp goes up and the s2k goes up a bit too. the c6 get so hot and the inside the cabin you can feel the heat coming thru the floor near the middle console. i pull to the side and turn off the engine. it feels like it got hotter. when i start the engine again, the temp goes way up. i left the car on idle i guess thats the way you should do it so the oil circulate. i was driving it really hard too. reliability comes to mind that day
Wow, how did you remove 600lbs from the car?
Tons of different things. The video I posted last week highlights some of the big things. It's actually more than 600.
Impressive, that would put it at 2200 pounds?
@@Shadowboost mine s2000 FIA J cage dry weight is 990kg.
A lot of work
Where’d you lose 600 lbs?
Ozempic ...
fundamentally flawed: Audi
Call em like I see em
Why not have both an S2000 and a C6Z... 😅
That would just be so much maintenance time trying to keep new balances clean all the time. Hahaha
@brookhammerschmidt4464 thats why i have several pairs of NB's 🤣
Dude all of the hard cut edits and the clicking that results is super annoying and unnatural. Let there be some pauses.
NSX is not a good option, trust me.
Why? Just cost and part availability?
@@brookhammerschmidt4464 Yes. I am in the process of modding my NA1. Verry Expensive! + Months of wait time for Parts. Can't imagine the cost of racing one!
