When I found out I was having a granddaughter I decided to make her a blanket. I found a pattern called "Adeline" and my granddaughter's name is Adaline so I wanted to make her blanket using that pattern. I used the bamboo yarn and it was my 1st time using it. It was so thin and so almost delicate that if it wasn't for my determination of making that blanket I probably would have given up. It definitely ended up being a labor of love. I really like how it turned out. Now I know that Im not a fan of the thinner yarn. lol

Thanks for all the information. Very helpful as usual. I tend to stick to acrylic yarn for blankets especially if I am gifting them. I never want to burden the recipient with special care instructions.

From experience, I made a baby blanket for my first grandchild from a thinner yarn. It became her favorite cuddle blanket, and the thin yarn wore out in several sections. I have had to repair it several times. For grandchild #4, I used I Love This Yarn to make it sturdier.

This was very helpful. One thing I want to mention, particularly as blankets use more skeins than most other projects... if you are using more than one skein of the same color it's best to check that all of the skeins are from the same dye lot. There can be variations in color in different dye lots. Thanks!

This was the second time watching this video. I’m trying to make a blanket for your baby blanket project. The first one I made was for my great grand baby and after I had it made I knew I had not chosen the softest or best yarn. But it was my first try at anything special, this time I will make a swatch for sure. Thanks again for your great videos!

I find Category 4 sized yarns offer the best selection and variety for the price. But
maybe you're looking to make a big blanket for a teen headed to college or something.
Don't overlook the option of simply holding two or three strands of the yarn together
while you crochet the stitch for the blanket.

I learned and crocheted for years with thread. When I started to crochet with yarn I had a hard time adjusting to the thicknesses. I now crochet with yarn but stick to the thinner ones. Like fingering, sport and the thickest DK. I make blankets with DK and I always use merino wool. It's easy on the hands and wears beautifully. If you get super wash it beats acrylic. Just my thoughts and preferences. Love you Chanel and the great information you share

Well, this was so, so helpful! I’m getting ready to make a blanket or two for Christmas gifts (yes, I’m starting now because I have so many hobbies and crafts to do which I love) and just ran across the mandala ombré that I understand makes great afghans because of the gentle color changes instead of the abrupt color changes of the original mandala yarns. It’s a 4 weight which I am going to try with the Tunisian crochet method. Since I ordered it last night from Lion brands site, I hope you will agree that this is a good decision for a soft, colorful, and easy care blanket. I searched everywhere to find how many “cakes” to use for the size of a 50x65 size afghan and bought 9 cakes. Do you think I made a good decision? 😅if only you made this video about 10 hours earlier.
I also figured if I needed that many skeins I wasn’t going to find that many of the same color in my local store is another good reason to shop on line. Love, love your videos😘

If you are using Red Heart super saver ombre be sure you are getting the correct color. Look for whether it's made in the USA it'll happen u.s. flag on it or made in Turkey or India they will not match they look the same but they're not. Be sure you look at that.

My friend with autism loves heavy blankets, and I'd love to make one for her. Are there any yarn recommendations? I'd preferred it if it wasn't too bulky, as i'm new to crochet, and that seems overwhelming.
When I googled it Bernat Maker was suggested.

    • @CrochetWithTiffany
      @CrochetWithTiffany  Місяць тому

You are such a sweet friend for wanting to make this special blanket. There are 2 ways to make a heavy blanket. Either go thicker yarn or dense and bulky stitches. The thicker yarn may be different to work with because of its size but you will be able to crochet the blanket faster and if you can find sales and coupons, cheaper. It you choose to use a medium size 4 weight yarn, which is possibly the most common size, you will be able to achieve a heavy blanket though to do so you will need to use a stitch that will be quite the yarn eater as you will need to have a dense stitch will little to no holes AND you will need the stitch to stack up or have a 3D look going on to increase weight and trap heat.
There are so many yarns on the market now that you do have options.
My recommendation would be to find a size 6 super bulky yarn that your friend would like the texture of and then just work a half double crochet in the front loop only pattern for the whole thing. It’s a super pretty and super easy pattern and the yarn size will supply the weight for you. If you really want to use a size 4 weight yarn, I’d recommend a Bobble Stitch over most of the blanket. Maybe you could make stripes of bobble rows and half double crochet rows.
      I hope this helps. 🤗💖🧶
