      This song always makes me think about it moving out of my parents home and being free and not having to fight anymore. Sounds childish and may be dramatic but it’s true.

    My mother passed away almost 11 months ago, a few days after her 67th birthday. While obviously different, this woman and this song reminds me of her. She would play her guitar in the bars before I was even a year old. One of the patrons would hold me and bounce me on their knee or something. My mama sang and played her heart out because it was her only source of income in the late 1970s in rural Missouri. She played on an Epiphone Jumbo very similar to the one played here, but in tobacco sunburst finish. I learned to play on that guitar. I hope my mother heard this song. I know she would have loved it. I know she would have sang it. I'm 45 years old. I hope to have that guitar, my mama's guitar, in my hands soon. I want to sit on a stage in a smokey bar and play and sing for tips. I don't need the money, I just want to.

    my dad passed last week - been thinking about this song a lot - he didn't travel a lot - mostly cause he had livestock to take care of, but I think he would have liked to have seen the world a bit - I hope he's seeing it now

    When I hear Patty singing.....I always end of binging on Patty for a while. There is something very organic about her. I'm sure she went through phases when she tried to sound like others. But clearly, she got over it.

    I had this album on high rotation on my phone for a couple of years but then my dog had to leave us (she was old and had a good innings). This song in my mind is about Sally dog and it's only recently that I can bear listen to this song and it's been over 5 yrs.

    Love this, and love Patty. "Long Ride Home" another post-funeral song is one of the first of hers that slayed me. I personally wish she'd stopped and tuned that one out of tune string just a bit before doing this one live. Looks like she had a notion. but dismissed it. But that's just me, and it's still great.

  • @darshankv

    Patty, it would be great if you could give this freedom to anyone who listens to your song, freedom to do anything that we want, freedom not to work like a dog and not go to war... Often a man can be prisoner only in his mind and needs only someone to remind him about that. Words, especially poetic words, can be very powerful. The song gets only better when you adress it to living people also. :)

      Sincerely beautiful thoughts; of course it's up to each of us to listen and heed words that ring true!

      darshankv I love your comment. Her singing, poetry, storytelling, shows that there are choices. Of course, it’s up to the listener to hear the choices, to make the choices, and to act on them.

I would of done everything the same kid and all. I would of made the Dad watch though. WTH dean you waited for him to pass out before breaking his neck

    So many people talking about how sad the song is because it was on some crap show... you do realize it's a song about a real person dying? Have a little respect, nobody cares about fictional characters.

    • @bp341
      @bp341 Рік тому

      Instead of being another keyboard warrior telling people what to think and telling them they can't have a connection to a fictional person but should somehow connect with the singers father kind of shows how poor your stance at actually is.
      Who the fuck cares how people relate to a song? The whole point of music is to spark an emotion or draw a line to an event that reminds you of the song.
      Lastly, the sign of a good show or a good book is the ability to feel a connection and when the show runs for 15 years for many viewers probably half their life, it's perfectly OK to feel emotions.
