Lots of controversy... since when is it okay to mislead? ❌

- We made it home so now it's time to dive into all the controversy regarding the 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Business Coupe... or is it a 1946? It was advertised as "rust free, original, one repaint, safety certified, no need to spend anymore cash on this beauty." We'd like to invite you in the conversation by answering the following questions:
1) What does rust free mean to you?
2) What does original mean to you?
3) What does safety certified mean to you?
4) What does "no need to spend money on this beauty" mean to you?
To us, rust free means zero rust repair needed; original means nothing has been replaced or repaired, safety certified means it's not expired, and "no need to spend money on this beauty" means there's no money needed to be spent.
So in our reality, the car is not what was advertised. So, why did we still buy it? We're going to pull it into the shop and explain.

What makes this hard to handle is the level of experience you have. It is not like you are some poor pregnant lady that just got shafted on a bad car from a dealer. Buying a 75 year old car you rushed through the buying basics. Own it
Falsely advertised, shut your pie hole! Ego maniac!
Agree. However, that does not mean that the add was not misleading (to say the least).... He made the trip and incurred expenses on the basis of the add....
@@federicodurini8118 Agree. Unfortunately plenty of adds are misleading, hence why you go and view a car in person and negotiate on a price. If Chad chooses to spend 3k on said process, that's on him
It totally sucks that you got taken by Larry the scam appraiser in Barrie Ontario! Glad to know you had a safe and enjoyable trip/adventure back home!
Glad you guys made it home !! Now the work begins and it's a shame some people are the way they are!!
If it didn't match the description why did you still buy it? seems naive to me and he offered you your money back why didn't you take it?
My thoughts exactly. Id rather loose 3 or 4 grand then spend how many man hr.'s fixing this.
He get the money-back, whom will pay him plane ticket back hishome,,,😑
I believe the only mistake you made was by not posting the man's name, address and phone number so no one else deals with him and gets screwed like this. Not everyone is as auto savvy as you are. And yes partially your fault for not looking closer but trusting people are usually the ones that get screwed. One of life's lessons. Better luck in the future.
@@andy567t I would just go buy another car and not be out any plane fare. Ontario is a big province with lots of nice cars for the kind of money he spent. I have two antique cars here now that I bought in Ontario 13 years ago with absolutely no issues at all.

Was the seller going to refund the 3 k he paid to get there ohh and the 3k to get back home after posting a misleading add and lying about the condition of the car?
@@BillMac69 Why would he. If I drove to view a car and it wasn't up to expectations, I wouldn't expect the seller to refund my fuel. It sucks, but that's the chance you take. Chad's made buying a car more risky and expensive than it needed to be and ultimately that's on him
I've traveled to look at cars and bikes and even real estate, but you never can completely tell until you see it in person, regardless of how it was advertised. Sometimes, it doesn't work out, but it's all part of the search. But I'd never buy something just to buy something because I sunk cost into the trip.
No he doesn’t, keep doing what you’re doing Chad.
That’s not the point, the seller is a liar, the car is not rust free ..and does not have a recent certificate..don’t you understand that the ad is a lie..
So the people who are saying that its time to drop it must have done something similar..or knows this sell.
Keep it up Chad , hopefully this helps others out when purchasing a vehicle from abroad ..
No matter how you spin it Chad you made the decision to go ahead and purchase the car after having ample time to inspect it and pull out off the deal.
The fact that you spent 3k getting there is on you, most people would have paid an expert to view the car before spending 3k.
Let’s face it you created every situation that you have found yourself in, own it mate.
I totally agree.
The car was falsely advertised and the seller wanted to ship it so he could more easily get over on someone. Why did the seller not immediately offer him his money back???? No he kept blaming the mechanic when it is the sellers responsibility.
Chad could have asked for help from his subscribers but knew that if he did and the car was as advertised he would be likely to lose it to a subscriber. So his lack of trust got him into this mess. His poor judgement did the rest.
@@mritron7649 maybe so, but Chad went and inspected it himself. So the onus is on him now. Short of buying it sight unseen, he made just about every mistake possible in buying a classic car.

Now if you bought this in a auction or eBay and had it shipped, then it arrived with these issues , I would 100% agree with you. But the fact you INSPECTED it before you bought you lose all reason to complain. You're a custom car builder. Not just a average guy. If you don't know what to look for when buying a classic car that is a major issue. If I saw it I would have rented a car and drove home. And still enjoyed the road trip.

And he did not spend 3000 for plane tickets. I looked up tickets and they go for around 300 a peice . And even if he did. That is on him. He should have gotten a rental car and drove home if he was not satisfied. I have checked out hundreds of classic cars I only buy about 30% of what I look at. Because many times the owners don't know what they have or they hide information. But it is on ME to decide if it is worth buying.
Chad…..regardless of seller claims, you saw the car, inspected it, saw the rust and decided the buy it regardless without notifying the seller of your findings and not negotiating the price down. You could have walked away but decided to proceed with the purchase. You need to move on, repair it, sell it chop it……whatever….
🎥 In the video… before purchasing, you crawled under the car and he even provided you a drop light. You never mentioned anything or tried to negotiate. So I don’t know why you are blaming the seller. He said 40 year old paint. What did you expect

Chad having his own automotive show and worked in the industry I would have figured he knows more than enough to check for these issue before hand especially since he allegedly worked in a body shop at some point.
I am surprised Chad never had an expert with him. Someone who know what rust looks like, who has painted a car before and who has down metal work on a car before. Always good to have someone who has a knowledge of cars with when buying.

It doesn’t make sense to spend $25k because you don’t want to spend 3k to go home on an airplane and then carry on like a child.. that doesn’t make fiscal sense!

I think the $3k was a deposit that would be forfeit; airfare from Toronto to Halifax is under $400/person on short notice and less than half that with a bit of notice.
@Andy NG .. you change your plans, you can buy a ticket home, instead he chose to buy the car and now is crying foul.. he had a choice and now regrets his decision.
Next time bring a car to a mechanic to get their opinion before buying

If you are essentially buying a car remotely, you MUST have someone you trust to look at the car and make an assessment. You can never, ever trust the seller. It is just the way it is.
Clearly that's the way things are - and having it inspected before making the trip would have spotted the cheat. But hey, Chad is a nice Nova Scotia boy; a wide-eyed greenhorn teenager without the tools to navigate harsh dog-eat-dog nonsense - woof.
Experience has taught me that the rust you see, is 50% of what's there once you start digging
Good grief man, why didn't you bring your glasses with ya ! You're the expert,, you had every opportunity to inspect it, if you missed all this on your inspection, it's allllll on you buddy !!

Chad and Jolene had a nice little vacation out of it.
@@ScottyToaster Plus the cost was picked up by the UA-cam Videos anyway, so they had a short holiday paid for, not out of pocket, Waaagh.
Why couldn't you see the rust when you looked at it ????
Totally. Maybe it's a testament to how anyone can get swept away by emotions regardless of whatever you're considering buying. Don't fall in love with any car or house.
I agree with the bulk of the comments. You are wrong. Good luck trying to buy something in the future. I wouldn't sell a hubcap to you. I won't watch you anymore either. I feel like I've been ripped off.
He definitely needs to knock off the smear campaign against the guy. Very distasteful in my mind..
I think the controversy you are seeing /hearing in the comments section ,is less about "is the car what was advertised?" (likely not), and more about how you both handled the situation. Would I have been disappointed or upset seeing that car after I arrived from 2000km away? yes I would !!! , but you had options, and your decisions let you down.
In my humble opinion:
1) You had the opportunity to walk away when you saw/inspected it (yes you spent $ on plane tickets, but you could still walk away and fly home and likely feel better). If there was a time to express your disappointment (in a polite but firm manner), it was when you saw the car at Larrys. Your a bodyshop guy ! you're an expert !, and the onus is still on you to do your due diligence on that car before you agreed to drive it away & you failed to do that. I've spent $ to travel in order to buy vehicles only to find them to be "not as advertised". I walked away and I ate my travel cost (every time). Better to eat $3000 travel cost than spend $23,000 + $3000 on something thats not what you want.
2) You were offered your $ back by Larry when you phoned him and didn't take him up on that offer
3) When you chose to call Larry to discuss the "body mount / running board mount " issue, you guys became rude and incited a verbal conflict that was never going to end well, or make any of you look good.
4) It was NOT cool to video /publish that conflictual phone call with Larry, that was no good for anyone, such matters should be dealt with like human beings and done off camera.
Thats your opinion ! The previous owner who said he was an expert, mislead the buyer. If i did that to someone ,i would have expected a black eye for bull shitting people and wasting peoples time and money.

I wouldn’t call it rust free either after watching todays video (I didn’t see any of that when he picked it up, but he did) so he shouldn’t have taken it. And as I’ve said in other comments he should have researched Ontario safety’s , they are only good for 30 days, so if I was flying from another province I would first ask what date was the safety done ? And if it was over 30 days I’d ask that a new one was provided or I wouldn’t go buy it period. He made some bad decisions (we’ve all made bad decisions in our life) at one time or another. Well said
@@garageforcerestos it’s an unfortunate situation, but honestly Chad being who is as a car guy, should know better than to put 100% faith into an add. And if he had it shipped to him as he said, he would have the opportunity to send it back based on all the points he had made about the rust etc…he’s blaming everything on the seller, and I agree the add should not have said rust free, the fact that it said recent safety to me 8 months on a car that is not a daily driver at all is fairly recent, but still as buyer especially from another province I’m going to ask the date on the safety and if it’s not valid I’d ask he get a valid one before I spend money on plane ticketed and if he’s not willing to do that you walk away from it. Also if he thought that the rust repairs and mounts what ever they are for, was too much expense or work, he should have gotten his money back and either taken the loss on the travel fair, or if he wanted to go through the headaches of a civil suit I imagine he could probably win and get reimbursed as the car was not rust free as advertised.

I have gone on a few drives to look at a "only driven to church by a little old lady cream-puff" to fine something that would not make it to the end of the street. Vehicles that some people call mint will need a total restoration. Some people also do a "rattle can" restoration and advertise it as needing nothing. We Maritimers are honest people & sometimes we let our guard down when not in our own territory. I know you will have it looking like new - can't wait for the video.

You bring up all the issues there with the seller, you don’t wait till later to cry about it at home. @@gregoryp9217Chad acts like it was impossible to say anything about the rust without fighting the seller or sumthin. It’s possible to point sumthin out without fighting, I mean every car I’ve ever sold the buyer has pointed out something wrong. That’s where you negotiate, and walk away if you can’t. I mean, that spot on the rear fender is so easy to see, the seller couldn’t ignore it if you pointed at it lol it’s not like it’s a crunchy floorboard underneath, it’s right there easy to see. None of this makes any sense to me and the fact that Chad acts as if he did absolutely nothing wrong is very disappointing. The car was over promised but his reaction to it has been really weak too
This is not whining at all
He should have spent less time gawking at the keeno automotive doodads on the walls, and more on the car itself. Lesson: don't let yourself be detracted from the task in hand.
It almost feels like you bought it so you could complain about it. You should have pointed all this stuff out to him and maybe worked out a better deal with him. Because it’s your fault for buying it not his. You should’ve proved him wrong. Because all you’re doing right now is proving how wrong you are for not barking up the right tree. I’m wondering what you would’ve done if you didn’t have this channel on UA-cam. Because I have a feeling you planned on trying to make this guy look bad the minute you saw the rust. I’m sorry, I actually liked watching your channel, but it’s your fault you bought the car so quit blaming the guy who offered you your money back, because it’s wrong. And if you don’t feel bad about doing that, then you’re not the person I thought you were. P.S. You always reminded me a lot of the way I do things, right up until now.
Chad you no longer have to complain about whether or not the car is “rustfree” , you have viewed it yourself, then it was the time to discuss and not start sawing and complaining afterwards, that's not how it works. If you think he is whining and you don't like it then DONT Watch it!
@@mr.b2107 I turned off after I posted fed up of the whining
Wow, thanks Guys for showing and explaining the whole situation, I thought you had overreacted initially, not any more, I think the Guy that sold you the car got burned himself, realized the car wasn't in the advertised condition when he got it and decided to do the same thing, on sell it and cut his loses, not very nice at all, very unprofessional and dodgey, hopefully his reputation takes a hit. You and Jolene had a great trip, the car obviously did a great job of getting you both home safely and I know you will fix the Cars issues, drop it down a little and make it super nice, good learning experience for all and great viewing for sure, all the best.
Maybe so, but now it’s ok for Larry to pass it on to someone else…just not right man, not right at all.
You had a chance to bring back the car and get your money back, but you was stubborn and refused it. Bad Chad is a good name for you.
you buy a car 2000 km away take it back then back to the air port to spend 3000 more dollar to come home with nothing and he was beating around the bush about giving his money back so watch the video again
@@musiciswhy2684 he didn't need to go back to the airport. Ontario is a big province with a lot good cars he could have bought instead of that Ford. I wouldn't have come home empty handed if I really wanted to buy a car. I've been in Chad's position and I walked away and found another car.
How sure are you that the seller wants to return the money? What if the seller says, I need to take it to the mechanic to check the over all condition of the car as I hand it you. Or I want take it to the mechanic who certify the car Or he can say I spend the money to buy another car, I will give you post pond check etc... So, more days of arguments and end up with lawsuit process..
too proud to admit he screwed himself
The guy that’s picked them up at the airport said he had another car for him to look at but he didn’t give it a thought. This guy isn’t happy unless he is bitching about something. Good eye on him eh maybe he should have gotten his hands out of his pockets and looked at the car instead of all the stuff hanging in the shop. Nobody to blame but himself and how does it cost 2g a fender to repair coat hangers that expensive on the east coast. He should just stick to what he thinks he’s good at.
You might of mislead yourself by the looks of it, a professional body man you should know full well, that it's your responsibility to go over a vehicle properly before purchasing it, if you choose not too, than, your actually taking a huge risk, and are partly to blame for the situation, that you have gotten yourself into. Yeah, the man who sold the car to you is partially to blame but so are you brother.
I believe what you have is a car recognized by the Early Ford V8 Club as an "Early Version 1947 Ford" I owned one of these for 12 years. 1946-1948 Fords appear similar,
but '46 & '47 models particularly can cause confusion. Colours for a '46 could be found on an early '47. Brake shoes for a '46 might fit or most likely won't without modification fit an early 47.
The rectangular parking lights are commonly considered to distinguish '46 but again also on early '47. The circular park lights below the headlights were on later 1947 and 1948 models. Early '47 period ended approximately the end of March 1947. If the glass is original to the car the glass "bugs" could have "1947" indicated. The black dashboard instruments with red numerals is a '46 and early '47 detail . Later '47 had goldish coloured instumentation. After WW II there was haste to ramp up car production. A lot of parts had been collecting dust sitting on shelves. As a result Henry and many other car builders installed many mismatched or unspecified year parts on their cars. Finally the vehicle ownership would identify as 1947 unless it was mistakenly altered to 1946. Hope this helps.
Used to like this channel. But time to move on for me. Can’t stand the controversy don’t like people being belittled.
You need to let this go! You bought the car, even after inspecting the car. You should have walked away from this deal. And the seller offered to give you your $ back, you should have taken it.
What is the test for misrepresentation in a vehicle sale?
British Columbia, Canada
The following excerpt is from Campbell v. Di Fruscia, 2021 BCCRT 345 (CanLII):
26. While the principle of ‘buyer beware’ largely applies to a private used vehicle sale, a seller may not misrepresent a vehicle’s condition. A “misrepresentation” is a false statement of fact made during negotiations or in an advertisement that has the effect of inducing a reasonable person to enter into the contract. The seller must have acted negligently or fraudulently in making the misrepresentation, the buyer must have reasonably relied on the misrepresentation to enter into the contract, and the reliance “must have been detrimental in the sense that damages resulted
Id rather loose $3000 and walk away then spend another $23000 on a car that i know is rusty! Doesnt make sence to me 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
He would have made it back on UA-cam anyway
@@oldscout80exactly mate
buying the car is a choice and you made the choice to buy without due diligence on your part to verify what you are buying is what you are expecting. Part of the car trade is takin bruises and if ya don't look it over like you should your gonna get more bruises then ya want. All in all the heap got ya home and ya didn't die in the process so be grateful for that.
That guy offered to take it back but he was a jerk about it.. his multiple adds were misleading.. sorry bro. I understand being passionate and honest.. unfortunately not many of us left out here .. people only care about their money…
So Chad, why did you not do at the sellers what you have shown in this video, you could have either walked away or renegotiated a price
He did see it, and decided to buy it because of what he had invested in traveling. And the seller probably wouldn't have negotiated. Given the disgusting state of the classic car market, there are countless people who would have happily paid that price to satisfy their desire to be trendy. And they would never be the wiser on these issues.
@@borisjankovici662 thats my take not sure I follow you on the" discusting state of classic car market " Im so out of touch with prices it could be that 25k for the car isnt a bad deal and the " rust free " condition or other issues would have made the car a steal had the description been 100 percent accurate. I didnt see entire video so I cant relly agree or disagree but not much use being bitter on it I love that coup. Ive been disappointed after long travel to inspect vehicles my self its a big disappointment
@@jeffreyplumber1975 I'm talking about how over priced cars have become practically overnight. That's an $8-10k car if it didn't have those issues.
U sir picked the car. Its on u to inspect u failed its on u . Ny found a running board on highway is it urs
I have watched this channel for a year now, was a big fan of the TV show. Never take anyone’s word about the condition of a car over the phone. I Bought an FJ 80 sight unseen from a good friend during COVID and was told it had a little bit of rust in the usual places, was working on another project at the time. When I got to work on that truck turned out the body was Swiss cheese and the tailgate fell off when I opened it. I should have had someone check out the truck before I bought it but trusted the seller. Lesson learned and I have moved on with a body swap and frame repairs. Will never do that again. You should have known better, your fault for paying for it.
Tired of the drama, so I’m moving on to other channels and unsubscribed. Good luck
He's nit picking, trying to save face, and he can't do it as far as turn the key and go that's exactly what he did!
I'm out.
Like you said Chad, it is what it is. It's really unfortunate you had to go through this BS but it will be beautiful when you're done.
What a winer you've really showed me what a big baby you are! And you were my hero til now!
You are right Charles!
You looked at the car before you bought it. You are the expert. Why did you buy it.
I feel you Chad. It happens to everyone. I have been there too with Harleys. People saying bs that you overreacted are saying that, because it is not their money & they are not the ones that got deceived. You are honest & unfortunately not everyone is honest out there. Not too many real people left out in this cold world like you or other real ones out there. Easy for me to say, but don’t dwell on it anymore & carry on & live & learn. God Bless you & your family.
I played a drinking game this episode...Everytime you said "Rust Free" I took a drink. I'm falkin hammered. 😂😂
So did I and ended up sleeping in a skip 2miles away with a traffic done on my head
Has he mentioned rust!🤣🤣
LMFAO ...

And the reason being is? Lol
when has a car inspector ever looked at everything?
I wont be surprised if the previous owner doesnt sue for defamation after all those rants
You can’t sue somebody for telling the truth and it’s on video and the guy also allowed that.
What a crybaby!!!
If you’re looking at something rust free and in perfect shape. You don’t buy an almost 80 year old automobile. May exist in a trailer queen in other words never driven.
false advertising, that’s fraud ..open your eyes
And Chad can sue Larry for fraud, false advertising man..
No one forced you buy it. You looked at the faults saw them and still bought the car. It was made in 1947 it surely is not going to be as new.
We have a saying in Australia. Buyer beware .
You bought you own it end of conversation.
Best way to look at this is that the repair will be great content for the channel (and getting paid to fix it).
In other words he wanted a new car!
My add if i didnt know about the mounts would be.. looks great, but paint has some bubbling around edges that you may wish to improve but overall a very solid car. Runs well, drives lovely, very reliable on a long distance (uses a little oil but probably as expected for the age). Was certificated xx yrs ago and i am not aware of any problems but you buy as seen. Great usable car , ideal first classic for rolling improvements.
Losing interest mate. I might have a break from the grief I reckon . I got enough of my own. You were my chill pill...
He talking about his subscribers and not gonna say sorry I'm done
Can someone do me favour and let me know when this custom car building channel gets back to building cars. This drama is too draining and negative, it reminds me of why I stopped watching Orange Country Choppers back in the day.
It's like Chad quit taking his medication. Started when he got into it with the guy that sold him the VW Thing, and now this. He has become very confrontational. I'll check back in a week or two to see if he has gotten over it and is back to building cars, otherwise it isn't worth watching. Jolene if you don't stop him, he is going to destroy what you built up.
Totally agree!
What she built up 🤔 please..
Who's idea do you think this lame adventure was anyway?
Chad your the expert These cars are rare in Canada. It's up to you to decide if it works for you. If it needs work you can make it safe. Most of your viewers woulld love to own it, especialy if they can due the work. Every vehicle that has passed your way needed work, so what ellse is new. The choice was yours...
Just glad y'all made it home safely and enjoyed spending time together on a road trip.
Bad Chad, really living up to the name now. Look how many people have lots respect for you, what are you playing at?
Shut up 😂
This is bs. You’ve handled this terribly.
If you didn't like the little surface rust, then why buy the car. Your a fab man and not a mechanic so that is what you do. Why complain, other than for show. Good luck.Jack.
Why don't all you critics just sit back and watch what Chad is showing you about the defects of the car - You might learn something
Chad liked the car so much that he bought the car anyway - So sit back and stop the crap
@@pphil1267 Well said Dude
It's been 10 months but I don't believe this experience has expired. All of us understand that you would not treat someone like this. I respect the way you handled this.
After giving the owner's name, address and phone number out on you tube without his consent rust and mounts are the least of your problems.
Yeah, that's not cool.
He did? My faith in Chad is going down hill over this.
you inspected the damn thing before you bought it-this one's on you 100 percent. still a really nice car!
I've done deals like this. You have to learn to walk away if its not right and be willing to eat $3K if its not right. So, learn not to belly ache if wasn't a good deal for you.
This is the first time I have ever seen a channel actually sabotaging itself to lose subscribers. !! Unbelievable
I am nearly 70 now and I have purchased quite a few cars in my time. I always took what the seller said with a grain of salt. I would crawl all over and under a car before I decided to buy it. If I found something wrong after I bought it then it was on me. As far as I'm concerned once cash trades hands the deal is done and that's it. I think that if Chad wasn't sure about something he should have pulled it out in the daylight and took a closer look.
23 THOUSAND I WOULD HAVE DRIVE IT 100 KM ,,AND PUT IT ON A SERVICE CENTER CAR HOIST FOR 30 MIN.
PS I'M 72
The seller lied regarding "rust free" and body condition. That's a given. You didnt choose to re-negotiate the deal on the spot.
What YOU can control is how you react to it. There are plenty of positive ways to move forward, and plenty of negative ways. Carefully consider your choice.
Enjoy the car (it's mechanically sound and cosmetically very presentable) for a while, then sell it and move on. It doesn't have to be perfect to enjoy it!
Life is too short to worry too much about perfection. Your ego is bruised. It's in your interest to move on and not let this fester.
A car is much more than its appearance. Theres a story, a history, and how it makes you FEEL to experience it. You can control whether you choose to enjoy it or not.
You bought the car and had time to look it over, and now you're complaining about ..? YOU LOOKED IT OVER??
That folks is what you call beating a dead horse. “Personally” I haven’t enjoyed listening to Chad’s constant complaints these past few videos but I remind myself that poor Jolene had to endure listings to Chad the entire drive back home. 😂
The funniest part of these videos is reading the comments of all the whingers sooking about Chad complaining.
She has the option of not having to deal with Hiltz Kilts too.
Your not paying attention Jolene is The Camera woman, sound person, producer and editor Oh and Banker.
Stop watching - it is an easy decision
I’m not sure that Joleen wasn’t complicit by encouraging Chads nonsense instead of confronting him. I think Chad has a temper.
I surely do miss the dislike button. You chose to buy the vehicle, why didn't you go over it more closely?
Why did you not see all the issues when you inspected it before you purchased it.
why did you buy it, knowing all this ?? It your own fault bud.
As a body man, when anyone tells you repainted x years ago, you must do a touch-up. Yes, in this case, a lot of touch up. You will make all 26k back in content creation and then some. You can stop with the negative and start working on the car.
Out of all the comments your makes total sense. Just get on with doubling your money I think he thinks the drama video is the way to go and it's not.
You looked at it, and instead of giving you a small light he gave you a big one, sorry I'm on the seller's side in this case, you're being over dramatic about this whole ordeal. You bought a 47 not a 2023
This is all about clicks now! Let the chit show begin.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I believe this is on you. Have to take your lumps now. People lie and cheat.
He's taking his lumps. But, he can talk about the experience, too.
