It's really inspiring seeing someone I look up to talk about their process and how they started animating, or making any content, really. I feel you on the time management issue. College is crazy. Say, what do you study? Good luck on future projects! :D
I'm a writer. It's the one talent that I have. Ever since I was a kid I wanted to make animated films or shows, and I'd love to learn how, but the work required is too massive for my impatient brain. I have so much respect for people who can do it, especially those who do it as well as you do. Stay awesome, Shar. (Oh, and more smooth jazz singing, plz.)
I'd say start with just drawing. Concept art, fanart, stuff like that. Then when you get comfortable, try short comics, maybe one or two panels. You can also do very small animations, like trying to animate a blinking eye, or a smile.
There are so many artists who deserve to be famous and don’t get there. I’m so, so glad Shar is making it, she deserves the world. One of the cutest and most wholesome artists I’ve ever come across
I love how casual you are in your voiceovers. All the wheezing and laughing makes me feel like I’m listening to a friend talk, and makes me wheeze and laugh too! Also, I’m so sorry about your cats. Losing a family pet is always a hard experience. I hope you’re doing okay
my condolences for your loved pets, you are doing amazing keeping headstrong! Thank you for pushing through and giving us a look into your work process and your personal life :) keep on keeping on shar! you got this girl!☺
Aw, man as another self-taught animator who also doesn't know what she's doing, I can totally relate to your struggles of making animaions- it's really fun but there are just some parts that you have to rely on your sheer stubbornness to get through. And I also totally have a love-hate relationship with in-betweens and coloring lol keep up with your work and hope everything goes well shar!!!
I can't blame you. With all the shit link and zelda have gone through every timeline, I really hope and wish them the best. That's why I like your animations. It feels different and chill. It's why slice of life is my favorite anime genre. Good luck with school and hope to see you back soon!
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this Shar. All of the little edits, the sound effects, and just all of it! Thank you again for inspiring us, as it's always a pleasure seeing you and your work. Hope you enjoy your winter break coming up!
As someone who wanted to get into art in highschool, but was constantly weighed down by everything and was a video game addict, seeing what you were able to make when you were younger fills me with a kind of positive regret, the kind of regret that gets you off your butt and moving. Thanks
I love hearing about your process for animation and how incredibly relatable a lot of your struggles are (especially as a fellow person currently trying to animate while at school) Always love seeing your work Shar! Keep up the awesome work
Good luck with graduation, Shar! Your animations are very beautiful and bring joy to a lot of people around here. Take your time, If your studies are your priority I guess we all can wait because we also want you to be happy as well.
I understand a certain amount of your animation pain and I wish I could give you a hug and comfort you. I’m glad you’re somewhat managing your life well and I am sorry for the loss of your cats. Thank you for all that you do and I look forward to the next animation!

I noticed that youtube never gives me useful videos related to anything I actually need fortunately luck was on my side today because by whatever random chance this is almost perfect help for me i'm truly glad to have gotten this
I can’t draw, but your animations do spark the itch I get when I write. Please continue your glorious wholesomeness, it fuels my passion to write similar things.
The quality of this video was so good??? I'm always blown away by how incredible your work is, even with something as simple as a "how to" video. Keep it up!!!
your pain while coloring is absolutely worth it, your artstyle and color pallet is really awesome, i can't really describe how i feel about your animation, but closest description of it would be 'i fully adore all of your animation'
9:27 ikr! There's this feeling that you're being pulled into a different dimension of emotions when i hear certain music (most of them are anime ost) and they inspire me so much in coming up with a plot for a story
I’m honestly so happy to get this video. Everything is just amazing the vibe, the song, the style, the small drawings, the editing and transitions like everything is so soothing and relaxing. So glad to hear you, love your voice. It was really interesting to learn your process for making your wholesome animation. Thanks for this video ! I can’t wait for the next ones
Man, hearing your whole animation process and Q&A session gave me flashbacks to when I was in my final year of college last year when I was getting into creating pixel art. Seeing the time and effort put into creating these animations and hearing the advices you gave is really encouraging and I hope everything goes even better for you in the future.
I'm so happy🥺 The day before this was posted, I'd started an animation(a short 5 second practice, beginner here) but in my mind I knew I'd either fail or lose inspiration, and then never return to it, so it became something to do just to draw that day. I didn't turn back to it until this video came out and I watched it. It honestly helped tremendously, and I've had two 4-hour bursts of energy to work on my animation,. So far, I'm incredibly happy with it, and it's giving me more energy. Thank you so much, Shar! And I love your animations! Glad you're still doing well despite everything else!
I absolutely love how you capture emotions and hone in on them on your stuff. You remind me a lot of the slice of life genre. Like making things that seem so real and relatable. You use real modern things, and real emotions, and focus on them when often we overlook them. Slice of life is my favorite genre since it's like peaceful escapism, focusing on small moments, and making them mean a lot... so yeah, I love your work.
First off, I'm so sorry to hear about ur cats they seem so sweet❤️ second off thank you so much for all ur hard work despite these past few years and giving us such amazing art and making us laugh I can't wait to see what more you have in store! (I myself would love to hear more of ur beautiful voice~)
It’s nice to see another guide on animation! Of course everyone has their own style and different ways to work, but nice to see people go over the process
I know this was just a very small part of the video and it doesn’t even have to do much with animation, but you’re the first person I’ve seen who’s like me who, when watching live action stuff, I always think “it’s just actors, so when this character dies or gets hurt, it’s not really happening” lol. I do like watching a good live action show, but that thought just pops into my head every once and a while. But in animations, the character has its own world, completely separate from reality, even if it’s not a fantasy. Thoughts of “it’s just an actor” don’t get in my head and if a character dies, they’re gone forever. No actor to look up after the show is finished.
ooo this is such a good video!! it makes me very happy, it's very comforting. The editing is great and the cozy casualness of your narration is such a great way to calm down. the colors are so soft it's lovely ^-^!!
Thank you for sharing this. I can relate to the struggle of projects that are too big. I started teaching myself animation mid-last year, and on reflecting on this year's progress I realized I am ending the year with just a massive folder of unfinished work and rough storyboards of ideas that are too big to do....and....not much animation at all. It is definitely a good thing to pull back on the ambitions a bit to prevent despair from kicking you in the backside! Even when I do pull back to something smaller, I end up complicating it somehow! 😭
thank you so much shar!!!! this was so helpful and motivational. I’ve always wanted to get into animation, but I had a hard time understanding where to start and I got discouraged easily. your animations have kept that little spark of curiosity for it inside of me, so thank you endlessly for that :))))
Hey Shar! I'm just starting to watch your vids and I'm an animation student (hopefully gonna go through my last year next year to graduate, hah), and I hope you don't mind me breaking down some of your steps a bit more! By the looks of things, you've gotten everything pretty solidly! The sketch is still solid to call as a storyboard - even if it only makes sense to you, boards are boards! The thing about your version of the in-between stage is actually two steps at once: Breakdowns (hah) and in-betweens. In animation principles, you do your keys (keyframes, core poses) first, then the breakdown poses (which break down the movement but still in blocky stages, keeping in mind the timing of easing and overshoots and so forth), and *then* the in-betweens, where you can turn your brain off and animate straight-ahead. Hope this explanation helps you to make the process (somewhat) easier! And yes, the feeling when something starts to move and it moves *right* is true for us as well! (And don't worry. I too fear colourists. And animation concept designers. And 3d animators and modellers. And I fear you for doing this in Adobe Animate - but as someone who works with Toon Boom for uni, it's understandable. Actually, I fear and respect you more because you dare to fight after effects and premier pro. I do not tussle with them out of sheer pain I had from learning them in lockdown and suffering.)
Hearing/seeing your process was fantastic, but also the incredible amount of effort you put into this video is amazing! You could have done something easier but instead, even your q&a video is a work of art!
Your animations look really cute and I like the small nuances! I also like how you isolate things by putting them in different colours so that it's easier to process it.
I just want to say… I love your work, and you seem super warm and caring. You deserve all kinds of love and happiness and I’m sorry for your loss. Please take care of yourself! And don’t feel like you owe anyone anything. What’s important is that you keep doing what you love. The rest of us are just lucky to get to watch.
As an animation student, I can relate to the love-hate relationship with inbetweens and the taxing process of the coloring (like damn both are a pain but seeing things move is so satisfying-). I hope you don't have any deadlines when it comes to your animations because having a project deadline is a very pressuring process haha. But I have to agree that the joy of seeing your art come to life is so satisfying and motivating. uwu For anyone who's going to take animation be sure to have the patience for projects like these because, just like what she said in the video: "Being to ambitious about something when you don't have prior experience on it usually you give up midway." "Staring small helps gradually push your limits." "Being resilient and keeping a good schedule is important." (Don't worry I have problems following my own schedules so I too need to take note of this :"D) Overall if you have the dedication to do what you love, then it's all good. Don't give up if the outcome is not what you expect but learn from it. I hope you have a great day and Shar, if you see this, your vids are great, hope to see more of your stuff in the future! :D
unpopular opinion: I find coloring kinda fun, the repeating paint bucket motion and the occasion color problem fishing is kinda therapeutic and calming to me. I use to play a lot of grinding games so coloring simulate that but actually does something useful :|

oh my god yesssssss!!!!! a day before us is really really good!!! your animations honestly remind me of those shorts xD really wholesome and cute also just a small rant- i used to love drawing so much that id just spend the whole day drawing but i hate that ever since i entered an art course at my school, i feel like that love for drawing disappeared :(( school became a back and forth process of me rushing assignments and comparing myself to my classmates :(( i just hope that i can enjoy drawing again as much as you do :>>
As a beginner digital artist, i REALLY look forward in trying to animate, which i've never done and hopefully someday i have the courage

Had my expectations blown away by cute animation, as usual
oh my god yesssssss!!!!! a day before us is really really good!!! your animations honestly remind me of those shorts xD really wholesome and cute
also just a small rant- i used to love drawing so much that id just spend the whole day drawing but i hate that ever since i entered an art course at my school, i feel like that love for drawing disappeared :(( school became a back and forth process of me rushing assignments and comparing myself to my classmates :(( i just hope that i can enjoy drawing again as much as you do :>>
shar just casually coming out of nowhere and dropping the slickest process video anyone's ever seen
