When I recently started illustrating as a hobby, I realized how much hard work and love it takes to finish a single picture to create an animation. I salute your hard work and effort.
As a game art student i have so much respect for you for using adobe animate since everybody at my class and me included hates it with a burning passion 💀 it is so annoying and boring to use bro 😭
if i'm being honest it wasn't for my long-held familiarity with it i would've switched over ages ago HAHA also very cool that you're in game art!! i hope school is going great 🐱👍
You did some crazy stuff with just this short animation! The blur so the camera can "focus", the cat purring at different volumes when it gets closer, all the usual little details that you do so well are very present here. :)
Highly recommend auto actions, they're like macros to automate stuff. ie, new layer > name layer > set opacity > clip to layer below, all in one button. very useful for animation and assigning folders to the timeline makes things a lot more convenient, even if you have one raster layer in each folder. copy pasting, merging, and some other basic stuff are pretty annoying if you just have the raster layer itself assigned to the timeline. I animate professionally, and these are the things I found the most useful starting out :) Nice video!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! 😭 It’s so hard to find really simple and not overthinked (?) video tutorial about csp animation! Now I can finally say I understand what this layers and files means and how easy it’s work. All thanks to the fact that you made an analogy and showed everything conveniently! Thank yooouuu! 😭💕
I've been trying to animate for fun on CSP for a while now and aaaa your video is teaching me so much stuff I didn't know yet!! Thank you so much for making this, it's gonna be insanely helpful! :000
Shar's videos are the only videos where I get a serotonin rush before I even click them. Every time I see one I always exclaim "SHAR!!!!" out loud and of course immediately watch. Thank you for making videos, I like them a lot.
10:50 I don't know if anyone has commented this, but you don't have to rasterize your vector layers to color them. There's an option in the edit(?) menu that says change line color or something like that, so you can keep your vectors but still change colors 💖
I'm not an artist, I'm terrible at art, but I love your vibes shar. And it's also kinda interesting to see the creative process in a field I have very little knowledge of! Also, welcome back!
That bit at the end about how long the recording took for such a short video is super relatable lol. I have no idea how other people do super long videos either. The longest commentary video I've done was just under 20 minutes, and it felt like this massive undertaking for all of the recording and editing XD This video was great too, it's amazing how much your style has evolved already, some of those illustrations are just absolutely gorgeous! Always love your stuff, hope you're doing well. :)
This uhh, was probably the most wholesome art video I think I've ever seen, and I've seen a good view. Never heard of your channel before until now. Good video, great vibes. :)
I am so glad you showed your journey and process using CSP because it's the program I am learning to use right now, and I feel so overwhelmed with how many tools there is at your disposal (It is also my first professional drawing software lol). But, this made me feel so much better about my own learning process with CSP! Great video!
Ugh, love this. As someone who's used to Animate too it's been a pain to get used to CSP's animation feature. But this video really helped a lot, thanks!
You can also for the animation in CSP use a "folder" as a layer. Like, each frame in one animation thing can be a folder with separate layers for lineart, coloring, etc !!! I love animating on there haha. Great video!!
I'm drawing art as I watch this, and at the coloring it in chapter I copied your settings for the fill tool. Now I don't have to do as much cleanup for my coloring, thanks Shar!
6:55 THIS BLEW MY MIND!!! I didn't know that doing vectors with different brushes was a thing!!! I thought it was with certain brushes! Ive been using CSP for about a year and a half and had no idea that was an option.
I've been meaning to check out alternatives to Adobe, and CS is something that's been on my radar for a bit. The desire to do more traditional hand drawn animations versus motion graphics has been getting stronger for me lately, so it's nice to see that getting started might be a lot easier than expected. Thanks for sharing your experience.
OMG first off love seeing you back and second, I'm so glad you like CSP for illustration too and holy moly I am reminded just how much crazy stuff CSP has that I have not figured out yet and really need to use! 🤣🤣
NOOOO, I CAN'T WATCH THE VIDEO RIGHT NOW, OH NO, MY MATH EXAM.... THANKS FOR NEW COSY VID SHAR!!! WILL WATCH IT SO MANY TIMES!!! EDIT: I PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS!!!! YAY WILL BE WATCHING THE VIDEO RIGHT NOW WOOOO!!!!!
I use CLSP for illustrations and want to do animation as a new hobby, and I can already feel the amount of work that goes into your beautiful animations from illustrating alone! Highly appreciate every video you put out🌸
I've been using CSP for years, and it's so great! I ended up actually learning something new about the program from this video, so I will definitely be utilizing that in future projects! 👀
All the things you liked about vector brushes and edges cleaning convinced me back in 2013, when it was just poorly translated IllustStudio, already more useful to me than photoshop and inkscape combined. Especially other layer references and magnet brushes. It was a learning curve to get used to big studio structure they added in newer updates, but it was worth it in the end.
Ive been interested in 2D art for a long time and tried out CSP multiple times only to get confused and drop animation,, ur video came at such a good time. I'm gonna try picking it back up. Amazing video, im subbing!!
THE VECTOR ERASER TOOL IS SOMETHING I HAVE NEEDED OMG! i do multi-layered sketches so that if i move an overlapping object i still have the full sketch of what's behind it but then cleanup is so tedious
Btw, if you press "ctrl+G" your animation cell will act as a folder, that way you can leave the animation folders for things that really need to be separated from the cell. I feel it's eassier to work with that way.
This is such crazy timing, I've been contemplating getting Clip Studio Paint EX to start practicing Animation, I've been using Procreate and Procreate Dreams but wondered how CPS EX would fare and then this video came out!! I've been reading reviews and was going to watch some videos today and then BOOM!! Crazy timing!! Thank you so much Shar ;A;
To have a less messy set up, you can use folders as you'd use your frames and add frames within the folder, it alows you to have the lineart, colors, shadows etc on the same trame.
I'm by no means professional, but instead of using separate animation folders for your colors and shadows, you can make an animation folder and then add normal folders as cels. In those folders, you can add layers, such as flats, shadows, highlights, etc. Then, when you make a new 'cel', it'll be a new folder with blank layers inside.
ah this is a super helpful video!! thank you for sharing your first stabs at a process and thoughts on csp when i first got into digital art i was excited about animation and definitely tried making like minute+ long animations in krita even though it struggled to handle it haha so i feel vindicated about a late realization you could split out the scenes
Shar, love your work, welcome back! I also am relatively new to using CSP to animate/storyboard, so seeing your process and opinions is really wonderful! The small tip I can contribute is that sometimes with a longer .mp3 file, CSP will sometimes bug out playing it back (at least, while watching in CSP- not sure if this issue persists in the exported file). But if you do encounter this issue, I've found that converting the .mp3 to an .ogg file usually fixes it. Can't wait to see what else you'll make! 😄 Edit: typo fix!
Oh hey! A very lovely video to pop up in my feed, as I'm exploring csp after snagging it on discount myself hehe~ the brushes already feel really good :D
oh, my bones are rattling... law of talos and deviantart/NG flash games aaaa... This was a fun video though! It's cool seeing your fresh opinions on CSP animation as someone who spent a lot of their teen years in the program too lol. A couple small tips I've got for CSP that you might've already seen is that you can actually apply any brush shape or texture retroactively to any vector path you make if you get into the wrench settings of your Tool Property panel! And you can tick individual options to always be visible in there too. I'm actually really curious how you go about cleaning up vector paths in CSP as well, if ya see this comment! I've been using Adobe products for too much of my life, and I've actually been pretty intimidated out of using vector layers in CSP for years because of all the points a stroke can generate. Remembering to use the vector eraser and linking some lines together feels like a workflow thing I just have to learn, but I would like to know what ya thought about them as someone new to the software.
I can see that Shar is working hard. It was the first step of her talent from a very young age. It must be hard to learn how to use the app, so do your best! I'm rooting for you.(*^^*)
And you can make each cell a folder too! Just right click in the layer and select something like, create folder and place this layer inside. It makes my animations very organized even if I still separate lineart and color in different animation folders
honestly, all i could think of imagining is a shar doing the "shutup and take my money" meme - lol also hi, found your channel a couple days ago, froggo desktop video is the one that got suggested to me first time.
Whenever i jave an art block or burnout shar always gives me my motivation and love for drawing back somehow she always makes me want to draw and animate every time i watch any of her videos
I got 11 minutes in before I remembered this was a video showcasing an animation program. More Shar drawing/animating/yapping ASMR please, and thank you.
with also with csp animation, you can add multiple timelines, working on different scenes so you don't have to do each file on its own each and every time
Thank you so much for this video! Love the editing ❤ I promised myself that if I manage to get back to drawing and if I’ll be able to draw for at least a year semi-consistently, I will but CSP as a reward.

Man, this was one of the most polite "I'm sick of using Adobe products" videos I've ever seen.
I suspect Adobe fired most of their employees because they have products that started good and failed to improve with time.
You did some crazy stuff with just this short animation! The blur so the camera can "focus", the cat purring at different volumes when it gets closer, all the usual little details that you do so well are very present here. :)
