When I recently started illustrating as a hobby, I realized how much hard work and love it takes to finish a single picture to create an animation. I salute your hard work and effort.
As a game art student i have so much respect for you for using adobe animate since everybody at my class and me included hates it with a burning passion 💀 it is so annoying and boring to use bro 😭
if i'm being honest it wasn't for my long-held familiarity with it i would've switched over ages ago HAHA also very cool that you're in game art!! i hope school is going great 🐱👍
You did some crazy stuff with just this short animation! The blur so the camera can "focus", the cat purring at different volumes when it gets closer, all the usual little details that you do so well are very present here. :)
Highly recommend auto actions, they're like macros to automate stuff. ie, new layer > name layer > set opacity > clip to layer below, all in one button. very useful for animation and assigning folders to the timeline makes things a lot more convenient, even if you have one raster layer in each folder. copy pasting, merging, and some other basic stuff are pretty annoying if you just have the raster layer itself assigned to the timeline. I animate professionally, and these are the things I found the most useful starting out :) Nice video!
To have a less messy set up, you can use folders as you'd use your frames and add frames within the folder, it alows you to have the lineart, colors, shadows etc on the same trame.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! 😭 It’s so hard to find really simple and not overthinked (?) video tutorial about csp animation! Now I can finally say I understand what this layers and files means and how easy it’s work. All thanks to the fact that you made an analogy and showed everything conveniently! Thank yooouuu! 😭💕
Shar's videos are the only videos where I get a serotonin rush before I even click them. Every time I see one I always exclaim "SHAR!!!!" out loud and of course immediately watch. Thank you for making videos, I like them a lot.
HOLD MY TEA- SHAR UPLOADED! Great video as always! A tip: to organize better your animation cels, you can press Ctrl + G on one of them. That will create a group of that cell and you can place new layers for coloring, light, shadow, lineart, sketch, etc. That will keep them all on the same cell! For example, instead of making new folders for sketch, then a new folder for lineart, then a new folder for painting, you can just make one folder for the animation!
I've been trying to animate for fun on CSP for a while now and aaaa your video is teaching me so much stuff I didn't know yet!! Thank you so much for making this, it's gonna be insanely helpful! :000
I am so glad you showed your journey and process using CSP because it's the program I am learning to use right now, and I feel so overwhelmed with how many tools there is at your disposal (It is also my first professional drawing software lol). But, this made me feel so much better about my own learning process with CSP! Great video!
NOOOO, I CAN'T WATCH THE VIDEO RIGHT NOW, OH NO, MY MATH EXAM.... THANKS FOR NEW COSY VID SHAR!!! WILL WATCH IT SO MANY TIMES!!! EDIT: I PASSED WITH FLYING COLORS!!!! YAY WILL BE WATCHING THE VIDEO RIGHT NOW WOOOO!!!!!
I've been using CSP for years, and it's so great! I ended up actually learning something new about the program from this video, so I will definitely be utilizing that in future projects! 👀
You can also for the animation in CSP use a "folder" as a layer. Like, each frame in one animation thing can be a folder with separate layers for lineart, coloring, etc !!! I love animating on there haha. Great video!!
And you can make each cell a folder too! Just right click in the layer and select something like, create folder and place this layer inside. It makes my animations very organized even if I still separate lineart and color in different animation folders
OMG first off love seeing you back and second, I'm so glad you like CSP for illustration too and holy moly I am reminded just how much crazy stuff CSP has that I have not figured out yet and really need to use! 🤣🤣
Having trouble filling corners and small gaps? I got the tool for you. I probably can't post links on youtube so I'll say this. Look up the close and fill tool without gaps on Clip Studio Assets. It functions as a lasso tool you can freely customize. I always use it when the paint bucket isn't enough. I know some people who use it outright for coloring.
Some software tips i thought you'd appreciate!: -to duplicate frames fast, select frames on timeline, then alt+drag!!! -also you can put folders inside animation folders to condense lineart, colors, etc (still figuring that one out myself 😅)
That bit at the end about how long the recording took for such a short video is super relatable lol. I have no idea how other people do super long videos either. The longest commentary video I've done was just under 20 minutes, and it felt like this massive undertaking for all of the recording and editing XD This video was great too, it's amazing how much your style has evolved already, some of those illustrations are just absolutely gorgeous! Always love your stuff, hope you're doing well. :)
I've been kind of weary about trying animation in CSP but this video convinced me that I should give it a shot! It seems really fun to use actually lol :3c
İnstead rasterize all layer at once(bc damn making all layer rasterize and color them with lock are time consuming), you could have added a layer on top of the line art folder, clip it(mask) and fill the layer the color of your choice so the line art would have been colored.(But problem would have been timeline will look messy) Also you can clip the folders as well :0 imagine clipping folder on top the flats.
I'm not an artist, I'm terrible at art, but I love your vibes shar. And it's also kinda interesting to see the creative process in a field I have very little knowledge of! Also, welcome back!
ah this is a super helpful video!! thank you for sharing your first stabs at a process and thoughts on csp when i first got into digital art i was excited about animation and definitely tried making like minute+ long animations in krita even though it struggled to handle it haha so i feel vindicated about a late realization you could split out the scenes
This is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I recently got a new Samsung tablet to draw on, and was planning on learning how to use CSP. I had no idea there was a page dedicated to tips and tutorials :O And all the things you covered in the video while trying out the program has been very useful as well! I can't wait to learn the program for myself. Thanks for always making such amazing videos! ❤
my only tip would be to turn on area scaling if you get like a consistent gap when filling in colours. this is usually only a problem if you use raster layers for lineart though! You should be safe Shar ^^
Im not interested in learning animation (nor do I have the motivation to lol) but Its always great to watch one of your videos about the process. Great as always Shar
Shar, love your work, welcome back! I also am relatively new to using CSP to animate/storyboard, so seeing your process and opinions is really wonderful! The small tip I can contribute is that sometimes with a longer .mp3 file, CSP will sometimes bug out playing it back (at least, while watching in CSP- not sure if this issue persists in the exported file). But if you do encounter this issue, I've found that converting the .mp3 to an .ogg file usually fixes it. Can't wait to see what else you'll make! 😄 Edit: typo fix!
oh, my bones are rattling... law of talos and deviantart/NG flash games aaaa... This was a fun video though! It's cool seeing your fresh opinions on CSP animation as someone who spent a lot of their teen years in the program too lol. A couple small tips I've got for CSP that you might've already seen is that you can actually apply any brush shape or texture retroactively to any vector path you make if you get into the wrench settings of your Tool Property panel! And you can tick individual options to always be visible in there too. I'm actually really curious how you go about cleaning up vector paths in CSP as well, if ya see this comment! I've been using Adobe products for too much of my life, and I've actually been pretty intimidated out of using vector layers in CSP for years because of all the points a stroke can generate. Remembering to use the vector eraser and linking some lines together feels like a workflow thing I just have to learn, but I would like to know what ya thought about them as someone new to the software.
Before watching this video, I was doom scrolling in Instagram reels and seen this video in my feed few hours ago and now I am watching this video from a channel I've never seen before :D
Hello, I don't know if it helps you but, When you create an animation folder you can create another folder inside that one, and thus separate better, for example you create the animation, folder inside you create the lineart folder inside that the color folder and inside that the shadows and highlights folder, Then you create another animation folder for the background, I hope I explained it well (i used Google translator xd)
OMG Law of Talos brought back a suckerpunch of nostalgia. Unknown-person was a huuuuge influence on me...I sold Gamecube games to afford Flash CS6! Time flies ;-;
So happy to see you enjoying the cleanup tools! Ngl when I saw your process in AA I shuddered watching you erasing at the pixels-edge of every line. Excited to see you experiment more with your art with the new brushes at your disposal! Biggest CSP tip I can share is USE THE AUTO ACTION RECORDER! For the super repetitive actions you can have an auto action hit all the buttons for you, saving you a lot of travel-time. Very easy to set up: just hit the record, do everything like normal, then stop recording. Now you can just hit 'play' and it'll automatically do the recorded actions (this is especially useful in "button mode"). I personally use this for creating masks for coloring animated characters in my sequence, but you can use it for just about everything. ua-cam.com/video/Z5RDxPlAIek/v-deo.htmlsi=5b_GKOU-qPNyEBcR
