@@NefBZA0999 I believe you about Jello's comment but I think most people would refer to DK's as a hardcore punk band. Especially the album Plastic Surgery Disasters.
Saw them at the Red Cow were I was sitting on the stage, I tried to get up and couldn't cause Polly was standing on the edge of my jacket, that's how close we could get to real Stars back in the day.
For reasons unbeknownst to me this song filled me with so much joy I almost cried. Takes a damn good song and a damn good band to do that. RIP Queen Poly 🔥🖤🔥
i love that , the intro somehow reminds me of T Rex (i guess they were fans) i always dug X Ray Spex , for me they were one of the top 5 new wave acts (along with Buzzcocks/Pistols/Damned/Banshees) i love the fact they look so young and unassuming
Saw Poly at the Marqee London 1976 or 77 X RAY SPECS The best band best gig ever I saw and I've seen a lot of bands, I was in love with Poly because she was great and greatly gifted also she wore [ teeth] braces without care. It's so sad that young girls can only get on in the music game if they are highly sexualised, there needs to be a music revolution again where women can show case their talents and be taken seriously like everyone who knows about Poly knew what a wonderful gifted person she was. Thanks for the memories Poly.
Like I said, I would have been 8 or 9 years old in California and wasn't, like my peers, aware of the 'punk' rock all I'm saying is that, for me, it's important to know as much of the past as possible, the lines 'his roots are in today, doesn't know no history, he threw the past away' I will never ever believe in this sentiment, though I like the song.
How fucking funny, a mate of mine has to go to court and is barred from all woolworths for belting the shit out of a woolies employee. Im going to post this one to him.
FUCK ... I miss Woolies .. and Orange Julius, and Stewarts, and Friendly's too, Fuck me did I just say I missed the Mall? Someone please kick my ass, before I have to!!! 😂🤣😂 Much love!!! ✌ ϻя.ƹ
Out of context maybe, and a little background info about me: I was 9 years old if this is 1977 and not aware at all of 'punk' music and in America, be that as it may the lines: Warrior in Woolworth's His roots are in today Doesn't know no history He threw the past away It seems one doesn't have to know rock n roll history, I could be wrong about this.
Punk goes mainstream Volume 5965: Pop Princess Cheryl Cole copies Poly Styrene's look for the launch of her new single on X Factor. Poly was the originator - so fabulous and ahead of her time. x
Upper cass? Never had that vibe from woolies. Did I miss something maybe I´m upper class and didn´t know- doubt that tho´ .I alwayys thpught woolies was about blagging pick´n ´mix.
Woolworths a popular upper class store at one time, and the highest paying tax industry of its time - the point of the song???????????? - Glorious - 'inglorious bastards' in reverse.
Upper class?? My posh upper class aunt wouldn't be seen dead there but my other working class aunt used to take me there for pick 'n' mix. They had all the chart singles too. It was great.
A rare recording. I appreciate the posting. That said, this song sucks. Obviously, it was written with the object of giving the amazing woman a rest to her voice between songs.
One of the best punk bands ever. Poly was amazing.
Not really a punk band. More of a new wave band. The Stooges and Dead Kennedy's were punk bands but not X-ray Spex!
@@barrygreenstein8383 according to Jello DK's were a New Wave band..can't remember what record.. X-ray Spex, Punk As F🤬☠️k..

The first X-Ray Spex song I heard. I love it. I love their music. I always will.
The first song that I heard from them was Oh Bondage Up Yours
i love that , the intro somehow reminds me of T Rex (i guess they were fans)

Still listening
A song about Woolies. Marvellous!
I am going to add this to my list of alternative christmas music that I have been compiling over the past few years.

She was amazing, so sad she died far too young. She still lives on though, to millions like me, a 65 year old.
Spread the word fellow fans👊👊👊👊👊

French singer Brassens made a very famous song called "the happy imbeciles who are born somewhere"

Very good
@sameysane, i heard she's half robot.
Don't worry about it.
Absolutely..
hey, they were punk rock
RIP Poly, love you
That's alright, I get that that's your point of view, but knowing of the past is essential. JMO
why has she died? what is the cause?
Punk sax - what could be better!
So sad to hear that she lost her long battle with cancer on the 25th of April 2011. She was 53.

@cliffst3rz, would you prefer she sang opera as opposed to punk because she's a trained opera singer.
Ok, mate. Copy that. Sorry.
It is possible to throw the past away though.
when it stinks, that is clearly an option.

no it was the same in 1978. she was anti pretty, most of the music biz did not want to know nor did the public

It's cute to watch her sing non-confidently in a song that was non-confidently written.
Your point being...?

Well, I' m not worried. Just confused.
WoolworthsWarrior wouldn't fit in most indents hence ArgosWarrior ;)
This riff is a rip-off from "The Real Me" by The Who!
Remember when bands used to perform live instead of lip-syncing?
