She knew what was up before any of us. She was such a brilliant badass of a person and totally for good. She did not sell herself out ever, but was still very influential in her time and became a legend, of sorts, herself. I know I discovered her in my teens even though she was popular when I was too young to know and still inspires me to this day. Some people are just really outstandingly awesome people who inspire others without even trying and she is one of them. She was a genius and unapologetically herself but was able to be that way that inspires rather than offends.
Screw quality, this video is kickass either way. Awesome song, the sax sounds phenomenal put together with everything else. Love the video, and the X-Ray Spex!
Amazin that talent like this was so heavily underground. Poly Styrene wasn't just talented, but years ahead of her time. When talentless coke-heads like Lilly Allen, Lady Ga Ga and Britney Spears are household names today, it makes me think how under appreciated most of the bands and artists of the punk scene were
Intresting. I'm constantly surprised by the impact some English bands have in the U.S. Joy Division & Depeche Mode (not my cup of tea) for example. They could hardly sell out pubs over here, but played in baseball stadiums over there. I'd love to do Boston, by the way
Most female punks should look up to this child. The music market back then was dominated by males how come nobody ever made anything of Poly Styrene! Lets hope that someday someone will make something of this great trendsetting band
One of the best bands ever, hugely underrated. RIP poly!
One of the best bands I saw in the 70's

One of the best punk bands. And Poly was - and still is - gorgeous.
How tasteful and graceful she was. A very intelligent and creative person. Her band was one of the best ever.

Nothing ever summed Boston up better for me than watching the singer from Gang Green doing lines with the violinist from Silly Wizard.
