The original bf2 did a good job showing an imperial perspective, I wish they had just remastered that rather than have some special forces loyal empire elite person give up the empire in about two seconds. Disney annoy me most when they’re cowards, I’m happy with the mando because it does kinda take a lot of risks. To me, Veers is the quintessential Imperial Officer. Efficient, reliable, not completely inhuman and smart. He's the Erwin Rommel of the Galactic Empire. In both Legends and Disney Canon, we have too many imperials who are either incompetent or too bloodthirsty, or even both. We should've more characters like Veers in the Empire, to underscore just how efficient and powerful the Empire was. After all, you can't run an Empire that spans most of the Galaxy just with incompetent fools, one competent henchman and one mastermind controlling it. You need people in the middle management who make it all go smoothly, and until the Rebellion popped up, it did.

More greatness that is General Veers, (and how he's similar to Rommel): Veers was a strong supporting and implementing general of mobile armor; i.e. as Rommel was to tanks here on Earth, Veers is to armored/attack transport in a galaxy, far, far away. So much so that it was Veers who personally not only oversaw the redesigning of the AT-AT, but he also personally tested and utilized the upgraded walker(s) in battle. (fyi: the redesigned AT-AT's caused the sudden surprise and shift in attack strategy by the Alliance during the Battle of Hoth; i.e. Luke Skywalker: "That armor's too strong for blasters. Use your harpoons and tow cables, go for the legs, it might be the only way to take them down.) The difference in design is highlighted by the earlier design being featured during the Battle of Scarif (Rogue One,) which was easily brought down by fighter blaster fire.

@@seanmcguire8474 yeah, Rommel was pretty keen on the importance of logistics and strategy, unfortunately (for him but not for the Allies) the Fuerer often disagreed with, or ignored, Rommel and caused a lot of the failures that befell the tank commander general.

General Veers is definitely one of my favorite Imperials/characters in Star Wars. However, one of the things I find oddly fascinating about him, outside of a Galaxy Far, Far Away, is the actor who played General Veers in "Empire." After playing Veers in Episode V, actor Julian Glover would end up playing "Kristatos," the main villain in the James Bond film, "For Your Eyes Only." Then, years later, J. Glover would play the villain, "Donovan," in the Indiana Jones film, "Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade," along side "Empire Strikes Back" fellow actor Harrison Ford, and former "James Bond" actor, Sean Connery. :-]

I love getting a little insight into the Imperial characters whom the movies kind of dismiss as interchangeable mooks. Not totally, esp with a character lile Veers, who gets a name and multiple speaking parts, but Imperial officers by their nature within canon ARE all sort of interchangeable mooks, and their uniforms reflect that. However, whether Lucas intended to do this, or it was just a happy consequence of filming where he did, his hiring of veteran British actors for all the minor Imperial (and also most Rebel) roles meant that they were very, very good actors, far better than their small roles really demanded; and because they were good actors, they imparted a depth to the characters that lesser actors would not have. This seems esp pronunced in ESB and RotJ, after the first Star Wars movie became such a huge success, the details of the lore were better understood, and the actors knew their performances would be seen in a major worldwide release. In any case, despite the small parts, one always gets the impression that the Imperial officers are real people with real backgrounds; that we are catching just a glimpse into a moment of their lives (and deaths), and much credit to the actors who were able to pull that off, even in silly costumes, on weird sets, talking to actors who would be voiced over, while reciting George Lucas's...uh..."unique" style of dialog. In many respects, without the serious, menacing performances of the Imperial officers the entire story would have descended into camp, because if you don't believe that the Imperials are a genuine threat to the heroes, then their struggles and triumphs carry no emotional weight. Kind of like in the so-called "'sequel' 'trilogy'" with Wonder Rey the Bestest Evar who don't need no stinking Jedi training to win at everything she tries.

Force Awakens isn't bad on its own, but it being the setup for the disasters that happened afterwards makes it too culpable. So I had this realization when watching Empire Strikes Back, it struck me how serious everyone takes the stakes. Both the Rebels and Imperials are run like actual military operations. No snappy quips in the middle of a life or death fight, reasonable decisions (Even if they eventually fail) in the moment. And taking the situation and the stakes seriously goes a long way towards engaging the audience. Hell, I even think the Prequels did it better.

Prefer the background story in which Vader happens upon Veers by chance on a backwater planet and notes that he must have poor political connections to still be toiling away in such a lowly post and decides to elevate Veers himself after seeing how efficiently Veers conducted an operation.

Obviously Veers was not as capable as Grand Moff Tarkin, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Director Orson Krennic, or Grand General Cassio Tagge but he certainly was one of the more underappreciated Officers. Who knows perhaps if the Empire lasted longer he would have been the second officer to be given the rank Grand General.
