  • My almost complete 1993 F150. I have driven the truck 50 miles or so since the conversion, washed it and decided to take a video while it was clean .

    @ Tyler Sherement.......if i wanted a 7.3 I would have bought one. It just so happens that I inherited this truck , and in stock form it was less than ideal for what i use it for. I intend on keeping it for a very long time and therefore modified it to cater to the way I use it. So as for your comment , no, "I shouldnt have just bought a 7.3". Ill leave that to sheep like you, you know, people who take their truck to the local "Diesel Shop" and pay some douche to bolt on a cold air intake,a programmer, and a pair of 8' stacks on thier dads old work truck so they can be "cool". Thanks but no thanks, I will keep the Cummins.

      +joe lober No offense meant Joe. I dont consider a trained diesel mechanic a douche, only the workers at"shops" that are only bolt on people that have no credentials to call themselves "mechanics" when in reality they are nothing of the sort.

      motivatedbyhaters85 hey man first off sweet truck. Thing looks just like mine but better. Few questions. Did you get the check engine light to ever go off? And what are the power numbers you have? And did you go to the DMV and change the truck over to a diesel on paper?

      Ryan S Thanks man! No, I never got the check engine light to go off and I never dyno'ed it. I also never changed it to a diesel at the dmv because NCs laws are so lax about "old" vehicles.

    MPG depends on many things; transmission option, 2wd/4wd, ride height, gear ratio in differential(s), turbo choice, exhaust diameter and finally driving habits.

    The price of the swap all depends on how much you pay for the bread van (or just engine), as well as if you are able to scrap the van body as most of them are aluminum. Also, yes it is a zf5 from a 93 f350. I am running a he341 turbo from a 2003 6bt truck and it is a little laggy on bottom, but once it spools the power is pretty impressive to e only 3.9 litres. As far as choosing a 6bt or 4bt I chose the 4bt because I felt it was a better choice for a half ton truck. Something to consider is that the 4bts are louder than the 6bts, they are just not as smooth at an idle and seem to rattle quite a bit more. The gearing is a little high for 35" tires, and I will soon be swapping the 3:50 gears for 4:10s or 4:30s. Mileage is pretty good if you stay out of the throttle, and if you are building something like this solely for mileage leave the hx30 turbo on it.

    • @biggus_dickkus
      @biggus_dickkus 2 роки тому

      A 4bt is nowhere near louder than a 6bt

  • @motivatedbyhaters85
    @motivatedbyhaters85  9 років тому

    Yes i put an air filter on it and it prob gets 22 on the highway and 15 or so in town. The mileage could be much better if it did not have a he341 from a 6bt on it. I was willing to sacrifice some mpg's for hp. It pulls very well to be a 4 cyl

    • @motivatedbyhaters85
      @motivatedbyhaters85  7 років тому

      Habeas J The 6bt would be a tight fit! Also I would have to ask what u were gonna use the truck for? If u need a 6bt for extra power to pull a 15 thousand pound trailer lets say, u would probably wanna consider an f350 for the conversion. Regaurdless of the engine u use a f150 is still a light duty truck.

    • @HabeasJ
      @HabeasJ 7 років тому

      motivatedbyhaters85 I plan on towing but not THAT much. Is the horsepower and torque better or comparable to the stock engine? I wouldn't mind having extra power and towing power than I currently have but I obviously dont want it to be lower

    • @motivatedbyhaters85
      @motivatedbyhaters85  7 років тому +1

      Habeas J The 4bt makes much better power than the 90s era 351 did for towing, my engine had 76k on it when i pulled it out. Honestly I would rather have a 4.9 inline six than a 302 or 351 for pulling.

    • @eclipsegst9419
      @eclipsegst9419 7 років тому

      Kelly Shockley I wad considering it as well, but now i have decided on a Mercedes OM606. It is a DOHC 6 cyl, so a lot smoother and revs over 5k rpm stock, so you don't have to regear. You can use the mechanical pump from an OM603 and if desired get it built to your desired power lever for about 1000. Trans adapters are avaliable, you will need an OM648 rear sump pan and pickup. By my calculations the total cost will be about the same.

    • @motivatedbyhaters85
      @motivatedbyhaters85  7 років тому +1

      Kelly Shockley Thanks for the compliment Kelly! Thats a good point, and to answer your question, YES it vibrates alot. I used the best engine mounts I could and it still shakes alot. Most people don't consider that the harmonics of the 4bt are way worse than the 6bts. Seems like the extra two cylinders smooth out the engine on a 6bt. For this reason I have considered putting a mildly built 300 inline 6 back in this truck.

      anthony hayes Diesel conversion specialist sell a kit to swap a 4/6bt in. I would recommend that route. I didnt know about the kit when i built mine but it would have saved alot of time. As far as the sending unit goes I modified the stock gas units. I simply removed the pump and made a pick up tube to go in its place. The injection pump sucks from the tank, no need for an electric pump. A p series pump can suck hard enough to support 600 hp from the factory. Hope this helps. I like my manual trans but I dont drive it daily.....got a dmax for that lol. Best advice I can give is that a 4bt is a noisy bitch, 6 bt is a much smoother engine.
