Thanks so much for this White Gel Pen Battle, very helpful. Sometimes it’s hard to give up on an old reliable brand when a competitor improves and out performs them.
Love that bubble study. Just awesome Jennifer.
Thank you, very comprehensive especially showing how pens fare as they become older.
Excellent review. Thank you! I like how you guys were truly surprised by the outcome. I was struggling with my white jelly roll pens again today and actually went out and bought a uni-ball white gel pen, which is working way better at the moment. The struggle is real.
I have wondered about this for a long time. Such a good review. (You and Steve make a good team but I guess you knew that!) ❤️🇨🇦
Absolutely love all the information given on this video. You got all my why’s and questions answered on white pens. Thanks so much for your videos.
Glad I answered all your questions!
LOVE ALL THE BUBBLE DRAWING AND COLORING... SOOOOOOOOO PRETTTTY
Thank you for your comparisons
I have learned so much from your videos! You are such a blessing to the artist/crafty world! Thank you so much for creating such fabulous videos! I was just looking for a new white gel pen so this came at just the right time! Thank you so much for sharing!
You are so kind. I am glad I can be such a good help to you. 😊❤️
This was so great! Thank you did going through the financial output in order for us to see a TRUE comparison. You guys rock!
I’m glad you enjoyed the comparison. I try hard to make these videos as valuable as possible.
I love ❤️ the bubbles!
Thanks, Jen!
Love the comparison - I was sure uniball was it. So excited
I’ve tried all the white pens too. But.... the pen that does better on top of colored pencils ...for me ... so far has been Arteza. Maybe try the pens on top of the colored pencils as comparison for next time??? Loved your art on the black paper amazing
Good suggestion. I have several tricks I use for coloring with gel pens on top of colored pencil. It can be very hard to get those little roller balls to glide over a waxy surface. I teach that in our new workshop series on our website.
I’ll go for Gelly roll and Uniball... i’m using gelly roll buat never try Uniball yet. Love from Malaysia... i learned a lot from Coloring Bliss. Thank you. Terima Kasih Coloring Bliss
Love seeing your sketch book art also. Gorgeous!
Thank you 😊
thank you for such a expansive review I am always on the hunt for a new white pen that you know will do what I wanted to do you have really help me with this review that you did and I appreciate it so much see you next time bye-bye
I am new to cardmaking and crafting and I appreciate your showing the difference in these pens. It was very interesting. Thanks so much and I subscribed :)
Thanks for subscribing!
Beautiful art work!!
Your explanation is so good. Thank you.
Thanks!!
Just found your channel today, new subscriber here😊 I enjoy your voice and your personality very much, and your reviews are so thorough! Looking forward to checking many more of your videos👍
Thank you for the review. I'm happy I that the Gelly Roll preformed great. (I thought it might lol. It also lasts a long time if you decide to sketch /draw a ton at once)
Fantastic compare must admit I do find gelly roll a bit hit and miss, I had heard the arteza are good but I don’t think I shall bother with them, but please tell that amazing blue polish your wearing I love it 🥰
I think the Gelly Rolls are the most opaque. I think they win, hands down.
Love this comparison
I’m glad you enjoyed it.
I would use the gelly roll white gel pen....headiing out to the craft store in the am .....thanks Jennifer.
I really like the Ohuhu Gel pens. I got a 20 pack with 3 silver, 3 gold, 6 pastel, 1 black glitter and 7 white. It was $11.99 on Amazon and I find it to write really well on all mediums I have tried.
Ty for the comparison but I ordered the uniball due to cost 3-pack gold, silver, & white through Amazon because I had some points and I used prime , so my pack was 3.00 and some change. Which gave me additional color options.
I have some Uniball, and I've got Belly Rolls. I think I'm going to get some of the white Arteza ones. I also just got two Derwent Chinese White pencils.
I just found this video because I just got the gelly roll set of 3 and they are really hard to get pigment out of. Maybe I just got a bad batch that’s been in the store a long time. Your’s seem to perform so well!
You are so blessed with the gift to draw. I wish I could.
Thank you! I started with something called zentagle and learned from there. If I can do it (with a lot of practice) anyone can!!
Love this comparison video. One factor that is important is that all of your old pens are not the same age.
True, I tried to convey that in the video. I also felt this was fine and fair because that’s what would happen and does happen in real life. I’m glad I had both old pens and new of each type.
Yay! I really love gel pens!!
Me too!!!
Guess it depends on where you shop. I bought my milky pop as a single for about 1.30ish. My gelly roll came in a pack of 3 for about 4. They are about the same price from what I've seen. Granted I bought them at different places. Both are good pens and so nice to use though. I have barely seen a difference unless old.
Ty for this i really enjoyed it.
I like the gelly roll the best overall!
Thank you so much for your work, n to Steve as well, I enjoyed it a lot, I always had a fear with, well using jelly pens, only like in special occasions, but it motivated me to draw more n create more different things, than I was drawing before 🙌❤💫
That’s fantastic! Have fun creating!
@@ColoringBliss Thank you !! 🙌💫😊
Have you thought about also trying Jane Davenport’s white paint pen? I think it’s fabulous, especially for highlights.
As you described the Pentel correction pen and its smell. I immediately was reminded of how much that appears to be what we used to use to correct typing errors. The product was called Liquid Paper. It was a white fluid that you brushed over the error. It had a horrible smell to it.
I came here to comment about that, that's exactly what those pens are for 🙂
Yes...that smell brought back memories of typing class I took in Highschool and the sound of our families old electric typewriter humming as I typed long essays and reports and corrected my mistakes with that smelly, white liquid magic in a bottle. Did you ever paint your nails with it? I did!!
Wow - I was ready to purchase the new kid on the block (Arteza). I think I will stick with what I already have. Thanks :)
Lovely video
I love this video 🥰
I am shocked as well over the gelly roll bold!
I was so impressed by your drawings! And thank you for this thorough review.
You are so kind. Thanks for this comment.
Hi. Aaron Blaise the amazing artist who designed characters in Lion King etc, told me that Gelly Roll was the white to go with several years ago. He was right IMO. Nice job here.
Micheals has a brand called Recollections that are really good. They have a pen and a marker. They are opaque and work over pencils. The pen is a juicy 1.0 also. Oh and they have gorgeous opaque metallic too! They're Definitely my go to when I need one. Thanks you for the new swatches!
Good to know...I will keep an eye out for them next time I’m there.
💜💜💜tfs💜💜💜 I only buy Gelly Roll White now, but always good information
I was sincerely shocked by the results and so glad I did this test. Yay Gelly Roll!!
You do the most awesome giveaways!! Gel pens are so wonderful and so frustrating!!! I can love a pen one time and the next time it doesn't flow!! Thank you for the comparison!
You sound like me! Gel pens can be so fickle. But I love them enough to persevere!!
@@ColoringBliss I agree!
Gelly roll bold is my favorite white gel pen, I’ve had issues with the Signo Uni in the past. Tried the Milky pops, just so so. Did not get the Arteza because I am not a fan of their products.
I do love the Jane davenport as well!
I’m getting several recommendations for her pen. I’m excited to try it!
Hey Jennifer i just wanted to being something to your attention real quick. The milky pop was 1 of the original pastel gel pens sets you could buy LATE 1990s & EARLY 2000s. I still have many of my original Milky gel pens from when i was in high school (1998-2003) Thank u very much for this. Back then milky had a big scratchy miss in them. They worked tho. Once Gelly Roll came out, many people didn't use Milky. I also have Gelly Rolls that still work from way back then. At least 20 years ago.
Great video. I love seeing your joy in your love of color and creating. Of coarse today’s color is white. 😊
🤍😂🤍 yes, I do get a lot of joy from art.
That was very interesting! I only have two white pens, a Signo and a really cheap one that came in a big set of gel pens (Fella brand I think). Both are having problems because I havent used them in a long time. I really appreciate the comparison you did and I agree with your conclusions! Also, the mandalas you did in your sketch book are very beautiful. The second one reminds me of a crochet dolly, really stunning!
Thank you! 😊
Yes! A doily!
What kind of spray did you use?
This was amazing! I wanted to just highlight my water drops and couldn't find one of my white pens to work. Was so bad so googled it and found this excellent information. You're the best! You can talk to Gelly Roll-just call them. Thanks. Watching you.
Meant I was so mad!
what was the spray you used?
I use white correction pens from the Dollar Tree and they work really well. Very opaque. Only con is you can't use anything on top of it.
Uni-Ball Signo is the only one I'll ever use. When I was at Blick Art in Savannah a few months ago the clerk recommended it. He told me it was the closest to acrylic compared to the gelly rolls that I was not happy with.
It is a fantastic pen. Have you tried the Uni-Ball gold and silver?! Amazing!!!
@@ColoringBliss ohhhhhhhhhhhh yes, they helped immensely with my holiday cards
I get so frustrated with white gel pens, so I really enjoyed watching this video. I've tried both GR and Signo uniball in the past, and got frustrated with both of them. I'm thinking I might just give the bold GR a try though, and see how I make out. Thanks for this video!
Good luck! I hope you find the answer to your struggles.
Missed you guys give rose a hug for me happy new year 2021
She’s sitting on my lap right now. I love that our viewers love ❤️ little Rose so much.
I am glad you did this video. I only have a gelly roll pen and a white gel pen from a pack of cheap gel pens. Neither of them work for me and I wanted to try the Uni -Ball Signo gel pens and actually had ordered a pack in early Dec which never made it to my house so I cancelled, along with 3 other packages , all from different stores. So now I am not sure if I should reorder due to your showdown.
If you use a lot of white gel pen ink, then I think you should try the Uni Ball at least once to see what you think of it.
Coloring Bliss I love love best while gel pen
The Gelly Roll brand works great as white out.
Great idea!!
Just found your videos! Love
Welcome!
I keep trying Gelly Roll pens and they always dry up on me very soon after buying them and never work again. Very unhappy with them
Thanks for review 🤗. Is your little doggy a Havanese? 🐶
She is a Maltese ❤️❤️❤️
I love using gel pens 😊
Yay!!! Me too!!
The reasons I really don't like the Sakura white Gelly roles is the reason I was interested in your video to see what could replace them,lol.. They work very unreliable and unstable on watercolor and acrylic for detailing. For me they suck.. gonne try the Arteza.
Gelly Roll Glaze pens are not supposed to be white, they’re glazing pens, for creating “spot varnish” highlights
Yes. The white cap suggests a white finish so when I first bought them, I was hoping for a new white pen to try for glossy highlights...that’s why I included it...so others would know how it performs on black.
I'd love to here whether Gelly Roll has in fact changed their formula. I purchased a set of fine, med, and bold a year or two ago and was really disappointed by the railroading (what you call tracking) in all sizes. I really like the Unibal Signo 153 Gold, so I'm going to try their white, which I think is the same as the Gel Impact.
I wish I had a good contact at Sakura to get all my questions answered. Oh well. Have fun testing pens. 😊
Me too!! I just purchased a set with a fine a medium and a bold and the fine is terrible in fact my old medium and the new mediums perform the same the only one acceptable is the bowl
I chose gelly roll with gel pen
UNIBALL Signo white impo. Been using these for SOOO long! (before they even became a thing?! More than 10 years) I journal a lot, and the REMINENCE gel pens are Fantastic!! I found them at my local craft store in Canada (DeSerres) they come in wht, blk, gold, silver, bronze, and copper only, but are hands down the bee's knees! a bit pricey, but worth it! As I said I use them for journaling. It is the smooth laydown, no skipping and the flow is unbelievable... when they are at the near end, is when they skip, telling me, time to get a new one. (I don't like the scratchy feeling when I am journalling) I don't know why gelly rolls have never been even a contender for me since day one? (BUT, I did enter... I have hope, I guess because so many people advocate them! Could be because I tested them with the old formula?) Thank You for this vid, always fun to watch. And I love your puppy Jennifer!!! (yes, before all the "gel pens" I used white-out ink pens LOL)
Sounds like you have been on a long gel pen “journey” too. So much to learn about this humble but mighty little pen.
@@ColoringBliss LOL... I am a picky art supply girl. I find something I like, I stick with it and advocate the use. Hard to steer me away once I find something "worthy" (enter Waynes world chant...Lol) And yes, you are correct! lol.
Would white oil pens be more archivable on top of colored pencils whereas gel pens aren’t really archivable over top of colored pencils? I may have to experiment.
im in that box to im pinky white mostly titanium white
Funny thing.... IF the same as it used to be, way back when (won't say how long ago, but let's say... a long time, lol) that 'white' really good performing Pentel blue container 'paint type pen'..... is 'liquid paper'. Not ink, but... 'white out'. Maybe you knew that already OR.... it changed since ages ago. Either way, imho..... 'whatever works' . ;) P.S. Way back then, Sakura Gelly Roll sets, I had found this (at the time) rare, bold almost neon looking gel pen set (a super bold, pretty royal blue, teal green, their black was awesome too..... A grey, I believe, hot pink, bright orange.... neon green... AND.... those super sparkly ones were the BEST! OMG, I used to use those for notes, Christmas Cards, B-day card envelopes... everything! I loved/love gel pens & those were prob the only ones you could count on, I'd use each... until they literally, ran DRY! Was SO sad as each color...... was gone. Tap, tap... phew.... tap, tap... OH NOOOO... lol EVERYONE used to ask where I got 'em. Seems Sakura is still as great as they used to be tho.... & then some! Even more options. Just way more budget-friendly & a LOT easier to find & get your hands on these days.
I'm thrilled with results. I'm a "Gelly Roll girl." Then Uni Ball.
I think I may be more converted then ever. Gelly Roll just needs a line of dual chrome pens like the Pentel Krazy Pop and I will have no reason to buy any other brand.
@@ColoringBliss I hear you. ❤👍
Uniball all round
Milky pops are available on Blick online open stock.I have used then all except the arteza. I find I pick a different one depending what I am coloring. I find I have the most trouble going over prismacolor pencils for some reason I have the best luck with the milky pop even though it is my least favorite over all. I think my favorite is the boldest gelly roll. Also thanks for the inspiration. I am going to now make a black swatch sheet with all my different white supplies. Maybe it will inspire me to use some of the items, like ink, I forget about.
Great idea! Swatching by category like that can be so fun and inspiring.
I was really hoping to learn that there was something else out there on the market that I could try.
I currently have 3 Bold, 7 Medium and 2 Fine White Gelly Roll pens, and NONE of them have worked from day one. Such a total waste of money :(
I an having problems with new Arteza. I even ran it under hot water, but was not working.
You could try contacting the company. They have amazing support.
Now I'm confused. It seems like I have the newer version of the uniball signo pen with the international label but my pen works the same shitty way the Japanese version does. I was always wondering why everyone was so happy about that one..
I haven’t had a problem with my white pens drying up. I have a uniball white pen I’ve been using for 4 years and a belly roll white I’ve had for at least 10 years it still works fine but I do think the newer gellyroll pens have better ink. Maybe it’s the climate you live in that makes them dry out faster. Love the testing of the pens though
Oh wow....climate could totally be playing a huge factor in my problem. Utah is a very dry desert. It still doesn’t totally explain why the white pens misbehave more than all the other gel pens...but it might partially explain.
@@ColoringBliss yeah it was just a thought. I did notice that the Opaqueness of the gelly roll has become less with age. White gel pens are a strange being lol
That 3 pack of white gelly rolls pens is at Walmart for $3.88 I think.
I still can’t get the white highlights right...I’ve got the tools...but run and hide from them...Once got a Signo with no ball in...just got the Arteza set and they work well...Posca erm...I do like the Paper mate correction pen too but always end up with the Gelly Roll...🤣🥰
I tend to get carried away with adding highlights because it’s so much fun.
i have all of these! Uniball, supposedly the "holy grail" for years, has always been a disappointment for me. A slow/no start despite the draw on your thumb pad trick. i agree, while not perfect, the Gelly Roll wins.
It’s definitely an imperfect tool in general. Maybe someday, someone much smarter than me will invent the perfect solution.
Great video, thank you!
Since you've opened the door to non-gel options, here are a couple I've found recently you might enjoy trying. I've included the product names and their descriptions "according to Blick." Hope this helps!
Zig Fudebiyori Pigment Brush Pen
Featuring highly-opaque milky white pigment ink, the ZIG Fudebiyori Pigment Brush Pen is ideal for brush lettering and illustrating on dark paper or blending and softening by layering over other colors. (Just purchased, haven't tried)
Edding Soft White Pastel Pen
The Edding Soft White Pastel Pen is the ultimate answer to painting and writing in white, as well as creating infinite tones. The pen contains waterbased, pigmented ink that produces light, semi-transparent white effects, creates white dots, and looks great on dark papers. Artists have complete control over the intensity of the color - color once to create a light-semi-transparent tone, allow to dry, then color again to intensify the tone and increase the opacity (Only used a bit so far, but with good results. It reminds me of a more robust, better-functioning version of the old Picket Fence Distress Marker, if you remember those).
P.S. Since you say you're new to Gelly Roll white 05 and 10 ... in my experience, 10 will never betray you. Seems like that giant ball just doesn't much allow for clogs. The 05, though? Beware! Old or new, they seem to live to desiccate & die. But your good results with 08 were nice to see! Also, the gold logo added to cap is because I think they've technically reclassed them as Moonlite.
Also, on the Uni-ball language/labeling question ... I *think* that the English language labels are for the US/world market, and the Japanese labels (obviously) for the home crowd in Japan. The thing is, I've always had "dry up" problems with the ones purchased domestically- but it stopped cold once I started taking care to buy the Japanese pens from Japanese suppliers. I don't know the reason & YMMV - maybe something happens in shipping containers? Or maybe they're really a little different somehow..Either way, I'm sold. Hope this helps
Thanks for all the advice. Sounds like you’re a pen nerd like me. So many fun things to learn about and try. I would love to travel to Japan some day and spend some serious time and money in their art and stationery stores.
Two bubbles often stick together. Could you draw that?
Bubble drawing is so fun. I did experiment with that a little in my second bubble study and absolutely love the effect. I’m going to keep practicing that in my next study.

Have fun coloring with all those pens! There is a link in the video description to take you to our website...there you can enter the giveaway. Good luck 👍
Thanks so much for the information I found it ,,and for helping me get inspired again to color,,,😂💗😘🙏🏼
Uniball signo and gelly roll are the best as far as brightness. If you get the pack of 3 Signo pens with gold and silver, price isn't bad. If you get pack of 3 white belly rolls price isn't bad either.
I’m glad there are so many good options now for white pens.
I think the gelly rolls I had must have been old stock. They were horrible
With fountain pens tracking is called railroading. For fountain pens it's a flow issue not sure with gel pens.
Thanks blue. I’ve heard it called railroading before too and I had forgotten...maybe it was floating in the back of my mind and that’s where the term tracking came from.
Like you said, nothing is perfect all the time, but I have found Gelly Rolls don't dry up as fast as Uni, their nib variety work better than the Uni variety ( considering Uni other colors here), and the price is better. Darn thing is waiting for any gel to dry, did you notice all the white on your hand? The fine white gelly roll is good for journalers that are filling in appointments or thoughts and don't want to take away from the more bold artsy decorations on their page.
I constantly have white on my hands when I’m working with white gel pens and paint pens. I am always cleaning the tips on my thumbs and doing smearing and blending effects. So glad white doesn’t stain!! 😂
Yayyy
Your dog Rose could be my dog Petey sister. We had to put him down almost a year ago, I miss him so much. He was a really good dog
So sad for you. These furry friends are so special to us.
I have bought jelly rolls since they were introduced it in Britain so it would to have this set.
Good luck with the giveaway Ann 😊
I only use Uni Ball.
Love those Uni pens...have you tried the gold and silver ❤️❤️😊
@@ColoringBliss I also have those to.
I’m so confused. I JUST watched another video on this exact topic and the Arteza was SO white
They are very white. I have them.
Thank you
Like always, tests like this can be very subjective. Also, be careful to make sure the reviewer is being as objective as possible...some are sent products for free from companies (and then they provide affiliate links) and this can skew the results in a positive way so that they will get more products in the future from that company and more affiliate sales. It’s the reality of this business and why we usually don’t accept free products from companies.
Also...all 4 pens were very white. The point of the video was to compare them to each other and see who was the whitest. I think all 4 would work great for most artists and colorists.
10:32 hello gorgeous girl 🐶🐾🐾🐾🐾 love from Winston sox 🐶🐾🐾🐾🐾
Personally, I don't care for uniball or Stress. I find them scratchy.
It's called railroading
Kitty thinks you're talking to him/her, gotta let the kitty in!
Sweet cats. He really wants attention.

Hey Jennifer and Steve, I now the shows over but I think I found a 72set, of the Star-Joy, off ebay.
hope i dont get burned , there was one more listed ,with the seller of ,Sanley Shop.
wish me luck! also when i find a picture to color, I copy it to now card stock and not use the book.
So, if someone else wants to do the same, I copy one for them. And save the book, Or if I mess up,
I can keep the book in good shape for more fun.
Thank You , I love you both, Steve our birthdays are the same date.
Good luck getting the pens!
@@ColoringBliss They are not pens, they are coloring pencils.
And after thought of mine is
1. I am scammed
2. They are copy cats.
I let you know.
Oh!! Yes please be careful.
