Sinker Cindy vs Sitka Cindy - Taylor Brings the Famous Inlay Back for a Special Edition 914ce

- To many Taylor Guitars fans the Cindy inlay is classic and iconic. Named after Bob Taylor's wife and created for Bob by Greg Deering of Deering Banjos, the cindy inlay graced the fretboard of the 900 series for many years. At Alamo Music we decided to bring the Cindy inlay back for our limited exclusive run of 914ce guitars with Engelmann spruce tops that were modeled after Chris McKee's 23 year old 914c. We carried it over to our latest exclusive that features deep and luxurious Sinker Redwood tops. For the fall of 2023 Taylor has seen the light and is offering a version of their current 914ce with the famous Cindy inlay for a limited time. This was an exciting comparison because all things being equal it really showcases the difference between Sinker Redwood and Sitka Spruce.

You guys describe the sound difference so well. I love the spruce sound but love the sinker look and story. It’s so hard for that reason.
I bought a Cindy back in 2011. I love all the inlay. Right now it’s back at Taylor guitars because of an issue with the finish on the bout of the guitar. Taylor wanted to see it and so at great expense, I shipped it to Taylor guitars. From Pa. To Ca. Got a phone call from Taylor the following Monday. The rep that I talked to said that in order to fix it properly they were going to remove the finish on the sides and back and redo it. The best part is that all the work will be covered under warranty. Also they are doing a neck reset and the frets. The only thing that I will be paying for is the fret work and shipping. Honestly you cant beat Taylor for customer service. I love them!
Customer service is very important. It's something that this generation has practically forgotten.
I wish that Guild would have repaired my neck when the flood made it crack in half. They told me that it couldn't be done but now I know better. It had a sound unlike anything else I have ever heard. I got so many compliments from the audiences on that guitar.
I have 4 Taylor’s and anytime I’ve had a question on any of the guitars, I’ve called them. There’s a 3 hour time difference between Pa. and Ca. If I’ve happened to have called outside of business hours I’ve left a message on an answering machine and someone has called back as soon as they got there. Always a real person. Never automated. I can not express how happy I am with the company as a whole.
Please all be reminded that Taylor only warranties to the original owner. So if you buy one second hand, you are on your own.
Those inlays are gorgeous, love it. I do wish Taylor put their controls inside the sound hole though instead the upper bout. Regardless, they both sounded fantastic 🤙
Looking fwd to your next annual podcast.
YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!, SINKER LOOKS PRETTY BUT THE SITKA IS KILLER SOUND!!!!!!!
Interesting to hear your comments on the different top woods. My acoustic is sitka spruce, but I'm thinking of splashing out and getting a high end guitar with engelman spruce.
I preferred the tones of the sitka spruce here to the sinker. Just sang a bit more in the high end.
I loved the warm expression of the sinker. I would love to have one as a complement to my jumbo Martin.
Nice sounding guitars! The unsigned Chris McKee signature with Engelmann Spruce was 2020. I'm still waiting for my Chris McKee signature on a sticky note. Hmm Sitka, Engelmann, Lutz, European, Adirondack, Sinker Redwood, Cedar? Is that the progression? Thanks CnC (Chris and Cooper).
The Sitka blew me away with Cooper’s piece! In the first bar….again. The sinker was very good, but sounded softer. Like listening to a rendition from several rows further back. The redwood is prettier and I love the Cindy inlay. The Sitka would be the one I took home with me because it was brighter, clearer, and stronger to my ears. I’ve said it before but, Cooper, you could make a 2 x 4 sing.
I agree. The sinker Redwood sounded softer, more for an intimate setting. Reminds me of Chris' comment, "No pickup..." That could work as a pickup line...
A Taylor wall! Needs Full-size cardboard cutouts of Chris, Cooper, and selected Taylor Guitars people in the room...
I am still cloae to getting one of your rosewood Cindy Sinkers, but I also like the cocobalo top end. 🧐
I’m liking the Spruce top a little more but love the look of the Sinker. Both are great guitars and I must say are more affordable than I thought. Love the piece Cooper played on this video.
I love the look of the Sinker but both sound great and but the sinker edges it for me all the best.
The Sitka Spruce sounds a bit brighter. The redwood sounds a bit bassisr to me.
I do dig the inlays.
Get to my home
Cindy Cindy...
Hey, are you going to make video on vintera ii offsets?
Nice Steely Dan shirt Cooper. Shame both guitars look like a tarts handbag.
I miss Xbracing
I have just purchased a Fender Paramount for £399 brand new from Absolute music. The Taylor 914ce V-Class Natural (WAS £5579) now £4,799.00. I like the sound of the 914ce. But I do not know if the extra sound is worth the money.
what the? They reduced the price! That is unheard of!
I played a alverez GA solid top Lam sides, and back to back sounded better than a 614ce taylor
Chris you taught me that It’s not lutz like nuts, its lutz like newts
Cooper might actually be afraid of his name
They are now both gone!
I DO NOT RECOMMEND TAYLOR . I ordered builders edition 324 and received a used...NO RESPECT FOR THE CUSTOMER!!!!!!
