- Our Alamo Music exclusive sinker redwood 914ce guitars feature stunning appointments to match the tone that is dripping in overtones. We had a unique opportunity to grab a pair of "one-off" Custom GA models that are essentially lower priced Taylor Presentation series guitars. Featuring the same wood pairing as the presentation series, the custom GA models pair sinker redwood with Honduran Rosewood and normal 900 series appointments. The difference is in the details. Which would you take home?

Alamo, and Cooper specifically, are the best. I have yet to buy anything from them directly but Cooper did help me find my grail Taylor from another dealer this past month and expected nothing in return. Their videos are amazing and offer so much information and I have learned a lot from watching their comparisons plus the in depth videos on the various manufacturers.
I couldn't hear a big difference between these two guitars which I think says a lot about how Taylor builds their instruments. On a personal level, I would never put a pickguard on such a beautiful top. Cannot imagine playing either one of these hard enough to need one. I like the Ascension inlay better as it is more simple. Thank you Cooper and Chris for all the free guitar education and entertainment. I recommend you to anyone I know who is into guitars.
Those are both fantastic guitars, and I wouldn’t kick either of them out of my modest guitar collection. To my ears, the Honduran sounds a little more ‘open’ than the Indian rosewood. But they both sound incredible. If I had 6 grand lying around the house, I’d be sorely tempted. Love the sinker! I’m ambivalent about the Cindy inlay as to whether it’s a selling point for me. Great review and demo, Coop!
Both great, I prefer the tone of the custom. The only thing I'd change is losing the pick guard. Sinker and Koa are both beautiful tone woods and should never be covered.
Cooper, great comparison. Still love my Chris McKee unsigned Signature and a Sinker 914ce. Thanks ps a lower price comparison would be Eastman E20 OM TC MR (thermo Cured Adirondack top, Madagascar Rosewood back & Sides) with an E20 OM TC.
The honduran sounds like it has a deeper warmer tone whereas the other one has more deffinition and destinct 'twang'. I love the sound of both but for different reasons. It all depends on what style of play and sound you like personally. For me, neither of these are what im looking for. Im liking the sound of All-mahogony auditorium shape, medium size guitars. I actually prefer rosewood fretboard and bridge. If im spending premium money, i would like abalone inlays on the fretboard personally. Also, having the truss rod adjustment nut in the headstock and NOT through the soundhole (which seems more prevalent these days) makes adjusting much easier to get it accurate without putting the strings and nut slots under pressure.
I think the 914ce sinker rosewood sounded the best....I am sure no body will agree but I think it is the first Taylor I have heard that sounds a little like the martin D-28!! Good day to all you pickers out there!!
The Custom GA sounds like it projects melody very well. 👍🏾
loves those sinker tops.
Can hear a difference in the rosewood species both amazing instruments for sure. The player plays a factor too.
I love the look of the Cindy sinker guitar better, but to my ear that Honduran rosewood sounded a little better and gave me almost a brazilian rosewood vibe as far as sound.
Cooper, I recently bought a “factory used” 412ce from Alamo, and the factory warranty came with it…
Love them both, but that Custom GA does stand out
You know the lyrics to Rocky Top used to be “Once two REVENUERS went up …., now it’s “ two strangers “ ! What’s up with that? 😂
I believe the smaller guitar is a "Grand Concert" size. A GC, if you will. They can't both be GA's. Love the videos!
But what if they were the exact same size, and thus, they were both GA’s.
I'd go for the Custom but I live in the UK so I can't have it. Shame!
both guitars so beautiful an cool .Taylor made guitar so good for qualitiers
i loved honduran guitar more fantastic sound and looked
Taylor is so lame….I’ll stick to Martin and Gibson….
