Man, your playing is superb almost unreal...and this is, that playing that gets the best out of spruce/rosewood combo, without the annoying squeaks normally heard in such fast playing on an acoustic (and being boosted by the spruce highs....). Great review. Thanks!!
Great run through, thanks again Cooper
Thank you for bringing this as usuale. Cooper can make a broom sound good. Very thoughtful demo. Congrats to Alamo and Taylor.
Which comes in handy when it’s a Taylor.
Great playing man…. You’ve got that fluid feeling in your playing that’s so hard to get down on an acoustic. V impressed 🖖🤓👍❤️💕
Thankyou so much for your videos from Ontario Canada. Always very informative and helpful. I count on you to give me information about guitars. 😊
Wow superb playing dude i could listen to you all day🤘🤘🤘
Very nice Taylor. It’s about time they did this!
I played a used J-45 at my local store yesterday and fell in love with it. Haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Would sure like to get my hands on one of these Taylors to compare. Looks like they both have light gauge strings, but the Taylor has a longer scale length. Then it comes down to the tone woods and the pickups. Tough calls, depending on what you’re after.
Great demo for the new Taylor 417 Cooper, you shred!
I found one a week ago in my local shop. It wasn't supposed to be on the floor. I bought it immediately. It is insanely good. It's a killer in DADGAD. I was instantly in love. This is going to be a game changer for Taylor. It sounds significantly better than any of the other GP guitars I've played.
Yep. I’m looking forward to pick one up and play it. I’ll be taking my checkbook with me. Dang, I thought I was too old to be doing this again. Oh welk, wrong again.
this is one that I really want to try out. does it have more bass than your usual taylor would you say?
Sounds like a Taylor...not thumpy like a Gibson nor bass forward like a Martin.
Very nice guitar! Your playing goes well with the guitar too.
Great video. I love that guitar. I may have to take the plunge
Great Demo! just played one of these today and it really is killer! I compared it to the 517 and 717 Grand Pacific's and I would pick this guitar if I had to choose.
I have a 410 w/ ovangkol, the loudest guitar i own. Ya know, I don't generally prefer rosewood, with the scooped out midrange and 'can' get punchy. But, listening to this and the other new slope shoulder Taylors on your channel, I've really loved the sound from all of them (even the maple, surprisingly). The GA I always thought was their best shape up and down the line. This new shape seems equally brilliant. The highs are shifted to a slightly more midrange so they don't sound as trebly harsh and separated from the bass. It sounds wonderfully articulate. The white binding I didn't like at first glance, but it really makes it look uniquely vintage and different from other models. I'm sure we'll see interesting special editions of this one, perhaps other B/S woods. One thing I have to mention is Cooper's great demo play... miles above others that don't adequately demo. I can't watch anyone else. Your style is so well-aligned with how I want to develop.
Dude, THAT SOUND'S...... AMAZING!!!!!! and brother, I gotta tell ya, I love ur playing, u ROCK!
Cooper, you’re amazing! You can actually get some low end out of a Taylor. Not easy to do. For a rosewood dread I’d still go with an HD-28 but this is a nice sounding guitar.
I love your reviews
Yes! That sounds amazing. I thought I wanted a classic dreadnought. Well, I got a 214 GA.. it has the tone that was in my head.
So that being said. I love all guitars, but if taylor can do a good slope shoulder, then I think they will get more converts.
What a gorgeous guitar and wonderfully played Cooper!
That is a very crisp sounding guitar. I think Taylor nailed it. And - you play very well! 👏🏻😊👍.
Sounds great!
Slope shoulder and rosewood(body matter) paired w/ the crisp Taylor sound does well to deliver a versatile performance, recordable sound.
Oh, it stands up. Sounds great.
I think it stands up favorably against the guitars mentioned, plus it sounded very good when you played up the neck. I need to find a 417 to try for myself.
It’s a dream consumer guitar. I love it !
Was in the market for a J-45 to go with my 317e, however this 417eR might just be the one. I love the Taylor sound and feel I get from my 317e.
I’m not a burst guy but, that is a beautiful guitar.
What a beautiful guitar 🎸 and played by a awesome guitar 🎸 player
Cooper is such a sick player it is both hard to watch and fun to watch
The most important difference between the 417 and the 517 & 717 is that the 417 has the “Standard Neck Carve” (similar to the neck on the 414ce-R) and the other two do not. They have the “Compound Carve” which is much thicker and less comfortable to me.
Its a long scale verses Gibson J-45 short scale. I like its tonal range wish it was in 24.75. Maybe custom shop would do one? Nice demo as usual.
This is the best sounding j-45 clone from Taylor that I have heard do far. The sound is very bright but the guitar works. I like the bolt on neck. I miss Cooper’s Alamo Music Center hat.
Ok. My dream is to play this well some day. So good.
As far as playability and quality build, Taylor is second to none. That’s a great looking guitar and is as good looking as classic offerings from manufacturers that have a longer history of building guitars. Add to that the standard ES2 pickup system, makes the guitar a better value at that price point.
You can say the same for at least 10 other brands.
Nice. I think Taylor's on to something.
Its got a little bottom end to it, nice , it looks and sounds great
Always happy to see another GP in Taylor’s lineup. I was a long time Gibson owner (J-45 and J-50), and the 717e scratches all those itches for me. This 414e should compete well for those who open to trying something with a different name on the headstock. Great demo, Coop, although it might have been nice to hear a couple of open chords ring out just a bit, to show off its dreadness.
i owned an 810 some 25 years ago. great acoustic but just wasnt loud enough. this acoustic though, i kinda like it.
It sounds pretty good I like it
And yeah, the square shoulder is gonna make a return in the future dreadnoughts. I'm sure of it. Out now is just the academy 10 but it's not as ornate
Oh and the big baby but that a bolt on
Great looking guitar. I do love dreadnoughts, slope shoulder or not. It sounds good, and seems to have a lot of clarity (articulation?). For the price, it doesn't sound great. It's a little too bright for me, like all the Taylors I've tried or heard. I have a beautiful $1000 all-solid spruce/rosewood dread that is a mellow cannon. Of course, beauty is in the eye and ear of the beholder.
I’d love to hear a 417e VS 818e.
Lots of sound and power. No ones comparing them
It doesn’t stand up to D28s, J45 deluxes, etc. I wanted it to so bad. But the tone is still too clear and straightforward. It needed a splash of warmth, twang, and growl to be knighted with the classics. Would’ve been awesome to get the dream tone with the taylor playability.
I agree…well said! Also I still don’t think plastic knobs belong on a beautifully crafted guitar.
Taylor wants all of my money. I have a 324ce and 717e and now they do this . . . . . now I want the tobacco burst 417e!
Can you please make a video comparing the Gibson J-45 Faded to the Gibson 50s Original J-45.
This Taylor guitar sounds great unplugged. Just like my Taylor 414 ce. I only wish I purchased my guitar without the expressions system pickup, which I am not happy with. To build such a fine instrument and, in my opinion, put a subpar pick up in it.
I wish people would just play some chords and standard picking. This is why Ian meadows channel is so great.
Need a comparison video with 717
Timbre incrível
I would like Taylor to do a limited non bolt on neck most hand not machine made guitar for a somewhat reasonable price.
Beautiful guitar, i'm a Martin guy forever though.
Your question about standing up to the D28, there is no way to tell with the tune you played. My HD28 has a great low end that I love. You played mostly at the 12th fret and above so I can't tell if it competes with a d28 or hd28. I love to hear you play but give me a basic E and G cord and I could answer your question.
He’s a salesman and his boss loves Taylor.
I love the burst love. I love the shape.. I absolutely HATE the pearl white binding.. that to me makes the guitar look cheap. But I get it, my opinion doesn't matter but only to me.
Your dead on, if I had one I could live with it, but certainly wouldnt choose it if I had a choice
Its so nice.
Well, Taylor……’bout time. It looks a little smaller than a J-45 or is it fooling my eyes? What gauge string’s recommended? Thx for the video and demo. I would love to see a comparison video of this guitar with the J45 and D28. I’m interested to see how this goes.
John, I have the 717e. Same body shape. It came with mediums, but I switched to lights. It sounds great.
Been playing 56 years now and my best sounding acoustic is a Hohner with rosewood back and sides. Has one brass lightning bolt H inlay on the head and lightning bolts around the sound hole. Can't find the model number and no photos can be found. Only seen one online and it was a cutaway version of the same. Does anybody know what model it is?
How do you see this guitar up against the new Martin Super Dreadnoughts?
Does it have coated strings on? I love that look but not totally convinced by the sound.
Not sure how it compares to a D28 or J45, but it’s the best sounding Taylor I have ever heard. I would like to hear a normal person play it. It’s unfair for Cooper to play it. He can make anything sound good. Love to tobacco sunburst. Will be my next guitar.
I would never buy a guitar with a 1 3/4" neck (Taylor, and now Martin), but Taylor did get one thing right: their sunburst shading - it's consistently equal to the best in the business. I wouldn't be surprised if it's done by a robot, but I have no evidence to prove that. To get a good-looking sunburst shading quickly takes either a lot of skill and experience with a touchup gun, or less experience - and a lot more time - with an airbrush. Since I do very few sunbursts, I rely on a _good_ airbrush, and have the luxury of spending much more time at it, and stay at it until I'm thoroughly satisfied with the results.
You could make a wall hanger sound great
Phantastic musican phantastic sound… Describe the sound i found only one word „happy“ and i think it could be possible, you feel it through all kind of styles playing … i other hand i am a fan of spruce and rosewood… maybe not a neutral statement :)
Damn I think you can make a 100$ box Yamaha sound like gold with this playing !!!
This is a very close competitor against the Gibson J45. I like it actually and now thinking which one to get. HELP !!!
I think this guitar would do very well in a bluegrass setting. Classic dreadnaught tones with a little extra.
Agreed, Taylors are great for bluegrass, loads of punch and power - good enough for star picker Dan Crary, who's played one for years, and Trey Hensley also sounds great on a Taylor. I think that a Taylor will out-gun a Martin in a bluegrass setting. All the modern Martin dreadnoughts I've heard are a bit subdued volume-wise compared with a Taylor - but of course that's just my take based on what I've heard, and others will disagree.
I've owned a Dan Crary signature model Taylor for years. It was built in 1992, and it's a superb guitar. I can't play like Dan though!
I'll definitely try a 417-eR to see how it compares.
I have both a Martin and a Taylor dread. D-18 and 610e.
Good decision! 🙂I have my Taylor Dan Crary and also a D-28, both of which I've owned for many years. @@flattopthunder5516
I cant wait until I’m done with college in a year and can finally spend my money on guitars instead of tuition. I want this one bad
Well it's £3K so should compete favourably with the D-28 and J45.
Vs the Yamaha LL series from Japan.
Wow! and only 2,999.00!!!
Cool, I'll take 3
That is the Taylor I want. The 717 with no gloss, pickguard, strap button on the heal were not for me. I hope my finance will allow it.
Just a heads up all, they dropped the R on the 400 series. There's no non-rosewood option now, so it's just the regular model number
How does the 417e compare with the 414ce???
I have a 814ce which I love, but I want a deeper basser dreadnought sound. Is the 417e different enough??
I have an 814ce and will get my new 414ce in a couple of days. Based on the specs, the 414ce should sound just like the 814ce at $1,000 less. Only difference I could discern was more cosmetic treatments on the 814ce.
I have a J45 Standard, I have a love hate relationship with it,
I had an early 2000’s J35 for about 7 years and could never bond with it. Traded it in on a Taylor AD17 Red Top and immediately felt more connected. Prior to my Gibson I had played a Martin D15 for like 20 years. I love the Taylor.
Almost perfect/ That said, dreadnoughts to me are a traditionalist guitar - therefore an ivoroid binding would hav e made so much more sense.
Hard to tell if competes with the classics. You need to do a comparison. You also need to play some basic chords and strumming to really hear it.
Cooper sounded sexy when he said "sitck around".. such a fly guy.
Is anyone else hearing a swarm of cicadas or an air-con fan squeaking in the background? This is not a negative comment on the guitar, but whenever Cooper’s talking I can hear a background noise.
Why isn't Coop a studio musician?
Not as bass oriented as a D28, and is far and away more clear than a J45.
Definitely a Taylor guitar.
Kinda would prefer a softer sunburst, but still...I'd consider it.
It sounds like a dreadnought from what I could tell. It looks like a Gibson but doesn't sound like one, and it should not. It is beautiful. I would give it a try and I am a Martin guy. Variety can be a good thing.
I don't understand the prices
Machine made guitars at hand made prices.
717 without baked top
5:08
The guitar looks better than any of the others. Would need yo hear in person, but definitely sounds better than the Martin. J45 is a close call
Why hasn't Fender signed you up as one of their artists already and make your guitar.
I think it just sounds like new elixer strings. The wood doesnt seem to add any character or color. Just amplifies the sound of new elixers. You can put new elixers on a HD28 or J45 and they still sound uniqie and have their own sound. The taylor seems sorta bland
Ever tried any aluminum bronze strings?
Are you kidding? Great sounding. A bluegrass machine. Can hold its own against Gibson, Martin. But then it's a Taylor. Cool demo kiddo!
Easy playing big box but little or no bass and thump.
Looks.like.a Gibson
J 45
Indeed!
The pricing is a whiff. Why would I not just pay 100 more for a 717?
Because that’s not a 417er.
@@smandez2023 yes, but you get a better guitar, better woods and QC on a 700 series.
I am not really understanding why this would be picked over the 717, which is a Builder's Edition. Maybe the gloss and the sunburst?
Looks great.
Soundwise, meh.
Sounds like a Taylor dread.
I think only tall guys play dreadnought guitars nowadays.
LOL, no.
Whatever taylor!!
Wish you could get it without their pickup, because their pickup does not the true sound of the guitar
Copying Gibson's J-45...too bad it sounds disappointing. All Taylor does is try to reinvent itself, just creating advertising...it's ashamed and that cowboy case isn't going to help! V class bracing is a gimmick, kinda like moon spruce.
Taylor’s always feel and sound sterile to me.
Like something completely machine made impersonating a musical instrument at a ridiculous price.
taylor is great guitar
