You really just have to play these in person...I was until today a 324ce guy...every time I would pick up the 324ce BE that is where the value came from IMO. It has a tighter feel, a tiny bit brighter but sound wise it didn't make sense to "upgrade" unless it was for the overall feel or look. I just joined the K24ce Builders Edition club and its on another planet...it has what I loved about the 324ce but has the BE quality and that KOA has just enough brightness on top of the warm quality I don't even know what to say. Unbelievable!
I forgot what the video was even about when Cooper started playing. Man, I could listen to him all damn day. Also, builder's edition FTW because I have one!
I just joined the club an hour ago! I think a player has to go in and play both back to back to make the best decision for themselves. I'm coming off a 324ce so I am pretty high in the clouds right now. Gorgeous guitar!
I love them both. However, I really love the darker one best. It looks beautiful, sounds beautiful, and I am sure it feels amazing.
That builder's edition is a beauty! Only gripe is the placement of the strap button on the back
I thought the Builders edition had more bass response, was warmer in tone but at the same time sounded a bit more compressed! Whereas the AMC Exclusive had more clarity and note separation especially the treble strings. Overall; liked them both but would probably go for the warmth of the Builders Edition.
Your play in acoustic is sounding very dynamic and colourful tone as what I can say. After a long time , I just spent sometime here watching your show. Definitely it's the Builder's Edition is my take.

Stunning. Both. The only thing I want is a koa guitar. Actually the builders sounded a bit better but I like the Alamo look better. My playing doesn’t deserve the extra bling.

I purchased the K24ce Builder's Edition after watching Chris' video and loved everything about it. Once I received it I loved it even more. The look, feel, and playability is just perfect for me. I agree with Cooper that this guitar is so nice and high end that it kinda belongs in a glass case and isn't one you'd let too many friends play, lol. I've only taken it out to one gig and it was back in the case whenever I wasn't playing it.
Both are outstanding examples.
I love them both! Ideally I'd like an unstained builder's edition just love the look of that wood seems a shame to cover that up. I really like the beveled edges and the abalone and that heel never noticed that before thanks for pointing that out very nice touches on the builder's edition.

That Alamo Exclusive, to me, looks so much nicer!! Both sound incredible!! I own the AD17 and to me it really is a Dream guitar!!
That BE is gorgeous, and the AME is stunning. I'll go with the BE as that New Zealand Paua is such a rare abalone. The sound comparison measures similar, yet slightly different - both that beautiful Koa sound.
I agree with the no stain comment on the builder's edition. That said, I just bought the BE guitar. I own martin guitars and like the earthy tone of them versus the bright sound of Taylor guitars. This is why I am going with the all koa Taylor guitars.
I bought the Builder’s Edition a couple years ago based on Chris’ original video. I typically go for less flashy looking guitars but loved the koa and satin finish so whet for it. I will say it is the only guitar that I’ve ever owned that almost everyone that has seen it, especially non-guitar folks -from friends/family to the pizza delivery guy, comments on what a beautiful guitar it is. Definitely the koa goes a long way but think the entire package Taylor put together just looks special or different to what people typically see so it stands out. Definitely no regrets and love how it plays and sounds more and more the longer I have it.
How is the action on it?
If budget allowed I would want the builder’s edition (without the stain) but I would play it at every opportunity. I don’t like having guitars for show, they are meant to be played.
It sounds better with the earphones. I like both guitars. The Ltd edition has the colour I prefer but I like the more bass sound from the Builder's edition. Chris did mentioned about the neck compound cutaway without edges several times in the past videos. Surprised that it is new to you.

My T5z Classic Sassafras is beyond belief in looks and sonics. If you can get your hands on one of these or one the Koas, you won’t regret it.

I like the looks of the Alamo exclusive. The Taylor BE sounds like it has more bass. QUESTION: is the BE older? That might be one difference. Koa really warms up quickly. Thanks Cooper.

On another subject, do you have an opinion on Breed love guitars?
I am not a bling guy. I am steak and potatoes. I liked the tone of this builder's edition, but not the looks. I typically play a D18GE, no bling, but beautiful! I do have other beautiful guitars with limited bling. I choose quality and tone and playability. But I do want a Taylor, but not sure which.
My comments are related only to sound as aesthetics are too subjective. Whether you like bling or not is really a personal thing. To my ear, a single mic does make a difference. The Builders Ed. is a little darker. It’s very well balanced and articulate, just darker in feel. It’s as if the BE is using older strings, just a bit more mature sounding. I actually like it a lot. The bling is a bit over the top for me though.
The Alamo special has a bright, string to string articulation missing from the BE. I’m turned off by the multi piece back of the Alamo Edition however. In a high end instrument like these no compromise should be acceptable and I consider multi piece backs to be just that, a compromise due to materials cost factors. I know, some will say “ well, what about the D35. Is that a compromise?”. The answer IMHO is yes it was done to save money on materials and to differentiate itself from the D28 variants. Its purely an aesthetic thing with no significant value sonically. YMMV.
Taylor needs to offer a 914 Builder's Edition. I spoke to their custom shop and they said they won't build one and that they "don't have the tooling to build a x14 body builder's edition." And that's BS because here we have the K24 builder's... Which is that EXACT guitar, just in koa instead of rosewood/spruce.
To me, the builders edition sounded more mellow, rounded and more bass. That could come down to the wood itself or the fact that the Alamo version has a 4 piece back.
I do prefer the look of the Alamo though. I saw a builder's edition in person at my local and the stain really robbed the Koa of its look. Couldn't see the grain very well at all. The grain didn't look that special tbh
I like the edge burst on the B E but In my opinion a lot better sound boards than koa when you spend that kind of money

Great video. One more thing that I notice after I got a K24ce BE is that the cut away side is a different piece of wood (looks like rosewood) and it is much thicker than the rest of the side wood. This is probably for structural stability?
I played both of them I loved the way both of them sound but I bought the builders and it’s the most elegant guitar I’ve ever played

I am thinking of the 912CE Builder's Edition due to shoulder pain from practicing with a dreadnought. Does anyone have experience with those? Thank you
I’ve the K14ce with a stunning koa back and sides though is with a burst on top. It’s stunning. The only problem with koa guitars is that they can sound quite a bit brighter than you may expect! Particularly coming from Martin guitars.
I have three koa Taylors and none of them are “bright”
@@STF_YVR odd as Koa is renowned as being “bright and tight”. Even Taylor’s website refers to it that way
@@chrismccannIRL Beware of marketing material … ;-) Spruce is the tone-wood used for the top on most acoustic guitars and it is brighter
@@STF_YVR I’ve a Builder K14 and a 914. Both 2021 models. The K14 has torrified spruce and the 914 normal spruce. The Koa back and sides definitely make it a brighter sharper sounding guitar. I’ve also a custom 000 Martin with VTS spruce and bubinga as well as a Custom Dreadnought with Adirondack and Rosewood. The Koa one is the brightest. All Koa guitars I’ve tried are brighter than the rosewood equivalents I’ve tried. I tried a K24 beside the K14 and chose the latter because it sounded warmer. The K24 is beautiful looking and still sounds great but not quite to my more Martin accustomed ears
@@chrismccannIRL I have to disagree: my 717BE is brighter than my K14BE which is brighter than my K24BE. And all my Martins are brighter than my Taylor K series except for my 000 15m. The only tone wood that is not brighter than Koa is Mahogany.
That K24CE builder edition sounds amazing compared to the other one its brighter and more vigorous. Suck a great guitar

This has been the comparison I was looking forward too. I like both guitars, they are stunning. I was picking between these two guitars and went with the builders edition because of the look but it was very difficult and just my preference.
Is there somewhere to get that arrangement you played, tabs perhaps? I like the finger picking style.

I am with you Cooper, the stain on that Builder’s edition masks the beauty of the Koa figuring. Also not a fan of the vine inlay - they both sound awesome though!

I own ten acoustic guitars and i bought brand new in 2018 the K-24 koa and its an amazing sounding and playing guitar,,I started buying brand new Taylor guitars in 2015 and now my last Taylor i bought was in 2019. I also have Martin's and Gibsons and Epiphones but my favorite are my Taylor guitars.I just noticed my Taylor K-24 is not the Builders Edition but mine has the vine inlay down the fret board .

The alamo has bigger sound big bass bass and the builder has tin can can sound I prefee the sound of the alamo
They both sound terrible. But the builder edition sound is incredible.
First of all ... great playing on your part. Um, I absolutely LOVE the color of the dark one! I don't care for all the BLING though.
If the Alamo version were the color or the B.E. but without the bling and vines ... boom! Sold. (just my opinion)
