yaaaaaassssss! come for the tape Styrofoam heads and weave glue girls! but on a more serious note, I've been wearing wigs and hair extensions for about 2 years now and when I start to make my own wigs I was using as a Styrofoam head with duct tape around it. then I found your channel and not only fell in love with Bernadette and your personality, but you inspired me to further my passion of being a a hairstylist. because of watching your videos I picked up wig block in my head size, which happens to be at 25 I have a huge head. I also picked up pearl head pins and other things I saw used to make your wigs. & I can honestly say that ever since changing my methods of making my wigs and taking the time to pin down my wigs properly, I've noticed a huge difference. So I would like to thank you for giving me that inspiration and educating me on the wig and extension world!
This video just gave me LLLIIIIFFFEEEE , a lot of people don't provide accurate information or some people don't like to give advice to better someone's craft due to the fear of competition. I loved this video !!!!!
Thank you soooooo much for this video. I have made so many wigs for myself and I could never understand why it would fit me too small. So I stopped trying to make them. Now I completely understand. I bought the block head and look forward to learn continue to learn wigmaking with better tools now. Great motivational pep talk at the end. That advice can go across the board on so many other topics. Another interesting point is that after your video, I wen to go look at my favorite wig makers, the serious ones, and low and behold, they ALLLLL use the canvas block head. Thank you so much Bobbie!!!!!! :)
WigginOutBZ I have measured my head several times exact sizing is a 23.5 put with a slight looseness its a 24 should I get the 23.5 or 24 I'm just afraid I will get s headache from it being snug. Thoughts?
when you say about investing on our work before investing on ourselves you basically speak my mind. I think the same! I lost my count of how many times i wanted something but i stopped myself to buy something that would increase my work. I think that was the best tip of this video! And actually shows how professional you are! congrats!
I too agree with Kaleo Gradilone! You just re insured and inspire me in this field of Beauty... I've been in professional 15years and!!! May God Continue To Bless You!!!
The end of this video I swear is like a pep talk I need to listen to everyday. A reminder to keep putting in the effort, keep learning, keep improving.
I will have to say this is probably one of your best videos. Great honest advice for people who want to learn, but also a good dose of reality for those who don't care. I do all of my wigs on a canvas block, as they should be done, and I'm so excited you have long neck blocks on your site. I'll definitely be getting one of those soon.
that was a truthful read at the end!!! I don't do hair for a living but that can be applied to many different aspects of life, especially the part about becoming complacent. I really enjoyed this video!
Just wanted to stop by and say that I ordered my wig block on Sat and it just came today. Über excited to use it! Awesome service , great prices and quick delivery...(weekends don't count so it actually came 4 days later which is spectacular!)
Can I just say I freakin Loooooovvvvveeeee You!!!!!!!!!! I've watched a thousand videos in the past few weeks on wigmaking and I have seen some horrendous things! Work ethic is everything! Working on my supplies as week speak! Some things I have and some I don't. My next investment is my wig block! Thank you! Looking forward to watching and learning. I will have many questions...
Thank you. I have a nerve condition and I'm losing my hair and wanted to start making my own wigs. I thank you for all the great info as a stylist this was never taught to us. So I agree that continued education is ALWAYS a must. keep up the great work and continued success.
LOVE LOVE LOVE when you say "yo wig aint gone fit" Very informative video, I just went on your site and ordered a proper canvas wig block. I can't wait to see the outcome of my next wig.
OMG!!! I am so glad that I watched your video, I was just getting ready to buy a block and dnt now the sizes, Then I ran across your video, thank you so much for the info, and by the way, your hair looks awesome. Im getting ready to watch your wig making video, and I just subscribed to your channel. Thanks again your great.
Hehe, yup! I see these "wig makers" in instagram with hundreds of thousands of followers with these huge inflated egos with terrible lazy work; and a lot of people think I'M a bitch for calling them out. I hate everyone.. HAH!
Thanks!! I was surprised when I saw how many tutorials out there didn't talk about measuring or mention head size at all; so I made this to help people just starting out!
With a Cinderella updo in the works (and dreading having to do it on my head), I decided it was time to invest in a proper wig block. These tips were just what I needed to order with confidence. Thanks!!
🙀 OMG.... I'm soooo glad I found you....I love and appreciate your detail and knowledge....NOW I know why😱 (my first wig) I keep redoing (now for the 4th time....smh 😡)....cause every time my sewing is wonderful but when I go to put it on its too small or just fits weird....LOL smh....knowledge is power....NOW I'm probably going to go binge watch your videos 😍
I was sooooo upset after I spent a couple of hours making a wig on a styrofoam head and I could barely fit it (I really can't fit it). I should have watched your video first. Thank you!
I'm just now getting into wig making and I have my canvas block and stand! I just subscribed to your channel! looking forward to furthering and perfecting my craft with you
When I made my first wig, I was so upset. It was too big. My head is only 19 in. When I buy wigs they never fit. So I came across your video and I'm so thankful for your advice. love ya
Just stumbled on your videos and I luv them! Thanks for sharing this information I have been looking at wig making videos all day and you are correct about the styrofoam heads, tape.. etc..I would rather buy the correct items the first time!
Tgank you so much for your inspirational video! I have been doing hair for 20 years. I used to do a lot of furthering education because I was around other stylist who where doing the same things. I've moved to California I have found myself in a salon with a lot of complacent stylist, however I'm still eager to learn new things such as wig making. Any suggestions or do you offer classes or videos on wig making?
+WigginOutBZ Please Please Please do this tutorial! I have long very thick hair and I try to coil it as flat as possible under my wig cap. If it's too high I look like an egg head and I can't hide my hairline, if it's too low, I can't pull the bottom edge of my wig over my hair.
+WigginOutBZ hoping it'll happen soon! i'm a cosplayer with obnoxiously thick hair and it really sucks whenever I try to get all of it under a cap - especially since I can't French braid my own hair aaA
Hi Bobbie! I love your videos!!! Would you please repair my wig please? I just purchased a custom made full lace virgin hair curly wig. I think it has excess of hair on top and in the front. Can that be fixed? Can I write to you about this please? Your discussion about canvas blocks and measurements it makes so much sense. You are not attacking anyone, instead you are educating us. Thank god I dont make any wigs. I looks so complicated, it takes science, arts, talents and patients which I dont have.
Thanks! I'm not a drag queen but I'm an small theatre actor and work on my own wigs and I don't know a great deal about wig heads. This video has been very insightful. Thank you once again 😀🎭
A friend convinced me I needed a canvas head so I'm using one (& love it!) but the clamp stand is a pain! I thought it was wobbly because I bought it used but my BFF bought theirs new & has the same problem... Suggestions? I can't wait for the plastic wrap your canvas head tutorial!
+erin one ill Hmmm… I do have a tutorial from YEARS ago titled something like "how to make your wig stand more secure", i'll be making an updated video on that soon.
+WigginOutBZ I'm working thru your old videos so I'll look for that one! Glad I watched this one as now I won't stretch my bff's wig on my head but on theirs!
Like 6 years ago I styled a wig for a friend in my already customized styrofoam head (I attached some grocery bags with duct tape onto it to fit my head circumference) but I completely forgot that he had a bigger head than mine and I ended up remaking the style on his head while he cried thinking we were not gonna make it in time. Since then, I always measure my friends and client heads before ANYTHING!
Very well said and done! Truly appreciate you doing this video. You just gained another sub! Not sure if you mentioned in this video or another , but you talked about ventilation. Is that something you are willing to do a video on? Or can you suggest a class to learn it?
Omg so much info in one video it's amazing. I saw a previous video of yours about canvas heads and went on Amazon to buy one. I'm just starting out and I'm waiting for it to come in 2 days so I can continue making my first lace front wig the right way. Any tips for beginners on a budget?
Thank you for sharing. I made my wig and it was too small to wear and I had to redo it. I brought a canvas head and wig stand recently before I ran across your video
Great video. Do you ever wrap a client's head in saranwrap and tape to make an exact replica of their head and then place it on a wig head? A tutorial on that would be awesome.
Wow!!! I love your very informative video...you really explained where I can understand... I made my first wig last week..I thought I had the answer.... NOT!!...I made it on a wig foam head.. #FAIL... I did a great job.. it was just way too small...what a waist of time..I paided close attention to you and I hope to make a great wig the next time.. I am taking apart my messed up one and starting again..any advice for me? Bobby Pinz..
I just watched that old vid last week was trying to find his site to get a wig block....so in sync with him still my favorite guru. he is my drag mother if I were a man but I'm a gorg blk female product of his videos
+WigginOutBZ I love your tutorials and can you make a video on how to make a cheap wig cause I have no money and I can't by wigs cause there too expensive😘
+WigginOutBZ I love your tutorials and can you make a video on how to make a cheap wig cause I have no money and I can't by wigs cause there too expensive😘
I'm so obsessed with your videos. The type of wig I'm trying to make is a lace frontal unit. My head size is 21.5 and I own 2 canvas wig heads (21 too tight and 22 too big, wigs outcome)...I've just about given up trying to make wigs BUT to give up is to fail. What do you suggest. I noticed on your site you sell canvas wig heads (I guess third times the charm) so I'll purchase exact size and cross my fingers. Any tips on how I can have a successful outcome. After spending so much time making a wig, I'm praying to finally succeed ~.~ Sincerely Your Desperate Fan xoxo Thanks for sharing your knowledge
I thoroughly enjoyed you video. You gave awesome tips and great advice that we all could learn and grow from. "Yo wig ain't gon' fit" had me gut busting over here! I wish you much success! tfs #NewSubbie
Thanks for the video! I'm currently just getting into wigs, so I'll stick to styrofoam heads for a wee bit since I wanna figure out whether I'm really interested in this art before investing too much into it. Those canvas heads do look very very nice though.
+fangirl801lost That's totally fine! Just like I said in the video if you're just starting out or you don't quite have the financial means to make it work at the time, it's fine! I've had several people reach out to me to learn how to ventilate, and they get all of their supplies and after I teach them how they realize it's not what they thought it was and they lose interest; so it's much better to just play around a bit before spending too much money!
AndreaL42 foam filled canvas blocks are fine usually, it depends on the manufacturer. They're light weight which is fantastic, but sometimes they can be hard to pin into and the foam starts to degrade over time. Covering any kind of canvas block will help extend its life, so it's always recommended.
Thank you so much for your reply! The "poly" block I am referring to claims to not be styrofoam. Here is the link to what I found on Amazon. I am not sure if this is something new or not. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MYLY4KR/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_7?ie=UTF8&smid=A15748DOUNSNHU&th=1 These are further claims: Can use to make wigs, display wigs, dry wigs, style wigs, color wigs. Poly Inside Canvas Block Head. (Poly is not Styrofoam. Poly is more DURABLE than Styrofoam) Difference Between Poly Canvas Head and Cork Canvas Head: Poly Head is Light Weight 1bl, Cork Head is 2-3 bl. Poly Head Can be Washed, Cork Head is not Suggested to be Washed. In Contrast, Cork Head is More Durable, but More Expensive. I would love your advice on this!
Another video! Yes! But I have just one question (if you don't mind 😊) Where do you tend to buy your heads? Or what place do you recommend? Anyway, awsomw video and totally look forward to the next!
I am just starting out with wig making so I will say that I'm in the "I don't know party" but am willing to learn . I don't have the appropriate funds to get numerous blocks right now so my question is what size block can I get starting out that would fit most heads ? Thanks so much for the informative video
Hi, Bobby! I’m planning to do Blythe doll wigs and make a mini cork head block, but maybe you can help me... Is the canvas head stuffed with cork or is a cork block sculpted in a head shape? Have you seen the inside of a head block? HELP!! (sorry my english, I’m from Spain).
It really depends, I actually style my wigs for myself on a block that is a size down from my actual measurement. But, I think this is because the back of my head is so flat.
This was a very informative video! I started out making wigs for my sister on a wig block, which is 22.5 inches and it has always fitted her perfectly since she has a small head. I now want to start making wigs for other people other than my sister. Does this mean I have to buy more wig blocks with different sizes or can I just go by the cap size, which are usually small medium and large?
You will have to buy a few other sized blocks. Even if the wig foundation caps are sized, once the hair gets sewn onto them they become the size of block used, not necessarily the size of the cap. If that makes sense?
Thank you for the helpful video. I'm curious, after you transfer the measurements to the block head, what next? Do you just pin the cap down aligning with the measurements?
Thank you so much for taking time out doing videos and sharing your knowledge with us. Is it possible to purchase a canvas block on your site that's already covered ?
Hi. My question is what if I just want to style my long 22” wigs? Do I need a heavy duty y’all wig stand (like by Gex) or will a table top do? Lastly, do I need a block head for just styling? Thank you
A table top stand should be fine (mine is heavy duty from Atelier Bassi), I only ever use tripods or freestanding wig stands for tutorial purposes. Styling on a block is best so you can be sure the head size is accurate to you and the lace will lay better.
You're welcome!!! I've personally never done it, I would imagine it would be hard to control the size of it for clients with very large or very small heads. But a lot of people do it, and I've been meaning to try but my sewing machine is on the fritz and I have to get it fixed! =P
I’ve measured my head plenty of times thinking it’s wrong.. but nope it’s a strong 25in and finding one is SOOOO hard. Now I’ve made 2 wigs for myself and I’ve made it work to where they fit by stretching the cap as I sew, but now I wanna move into frontals and that won’t fly. Now if I can’t find a 25in that’s durable, can I just get a 24.5in long neck and still stretch the cap? (Edit: nevermind lol, I saw you carry a 25in short neck, I’m on it.)
I would suggest prepping your hair however you plan to wear it under the wig FIRST and then measure your head circumference for a block; since hair can sometimes make a huge difference in head size.
Can you do a revised tutorial for stretching wigs? I recently got a custom wig done and styled for a project, and the original wig is by Arda if that helps. Although it was absolutely stunning, I cannot wear it because it is too small. So if you can make another tutorial to stretch a wig without causing too much damage, that would be great!

Sorry for the typos
when you say about investing on our work before investing on ourselves you basically speak my mind.
I think the same! I lost my count of how many times i wanted something but i stopped myself to buy something that would increase my work.
I think that was the best tip of this video! And actually shows how professional you are! congrats!

advice ... measure your head and the foam head and wrap tape around the foam head until its the same as your head
Just invest in a canvas wig head that is the correct size, it will last much longer than a foam head with tape on it.
I just watched that old vid last week was trying to find his site to get a wig block....so in sync with him still my favorite guru. he is my drag mother if I were a man but I'm a gorg blk female product of his videos

Hi! Your video is so helpful! How do you feel about poly canvas head blocks vs. cork canvas head blocks? And do I have to wrap a poly block?
AndreaL42 foam filled canvas blocks are fine usually, it depends on the manufacturer. They're light weight which is fantastic, but sometimes they can be hard to pin into and the foam starts to degrade over time. Covering any kind of canvas block will help extend its life, so it's always recommended.
Thank you so much for your reply! The "poly" block I am referring to claims to not be styrofoam. Here is the link to what I found on Amazon. I am not sure if this is something new or not. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MYLY4KR/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_7?ie=UTF8&smid=A15748DOUNSNHU&th=1
These are further claims:
Can use to make wigs, display wigs, dry wigs, style wigs, color wigs.
Poly Inside Canvas Block Head. (Poly is not Styrofoam. Poly is more DURABLE than Styrofoam)
Difference Between Poly Canvas Head and Cork Canvas Head: Poly Head is Light Weight 1bl, Cork Head is 2-3 bl. Poly Head Can be Washed, Cork Head is not Suggested to be Washed. In Contrast, Cork Head is More Durable, but More Expensive.
I would love your advice on this!
those canvas unit blocks tho, how you get hot glue off them?
+Adam Chenevert BAHAHA!

+Lily Dowel Hi! I sell them on my website actually, link in the description box!
***** Alright I'll check it out! Thanks!
Well done, well stated and informative - thanks
Great video!
I just subscribed because you ranted about glasses so natural Hahaha!
I am just starting out with wig making so I will say that I'm in the "I don't know party" but am willing to learn . I don't have the appropriate funds to get numerous blocks right now so my question is what size block can I get starting out that would fit most heads ?
Thanks so much for the informative video
An average head is 22-23 in size.
Sooooo glad I found you!
Hi, Bobby! I’m planning to do Blythe doll wigs and make a mini cork head block, but maybe you can help me... Is the canvas head stuffed with cork or is a cork block sculpted in a head shape? Have you seen the inside of a head block? HELP!! (sorry my english, I’m from Spain).
If you are in between sizes is it better to go up? Thanks for the great video!
It totally makes sense! Thanks for your response!
Thank you for the helpful video. I'm curious, after you transfer the measurements to the block head, what next? Do you just pin the cap down aligning with the measurements?
Yup! I usually tend to align a little bit past the measurements so that it can shrink a little bit when you sew the wefting down.
oh ok thanks i am going to order your canvas block head
Thank you so much for taking time out doing videos and sharing your knowledge with us. Is it possible to purchase a canvas block on your site that's already covered ?
I used to have the option available, but we can't do them right now. But I just made a video yesterday showing how to cover them yourself.
Amazing video!!
Bobbie thank you for this . How do you feel about using the sewing machine too make wigs
You're welcome!!! I've personally never done it, I would imagine it would be hard to control the size of it for clients with very large or very small heads. But a lot of people do it, and I've been meaning to try but my sewing machine is on the fritz and I have to get it fixed! =P
is there a place you recommend I buy these blocks in bulk or who have great prices?
I’ve measured my head plenty of times thinking it’s wrong.. but nope it’s a strong 25in and finding one is SOOOO hard. Now I’ve made 2 wigs for myself and I’ve made it work to where they fit by stretching the cap as I sew, but now I wanna move into frontals and that won’t fly. Now if I can’t find a 25in that’s durable, can I just get a 24.5in long neck and still stretch the cap? (Edit: nevermind lol, I saw you carry a 25in short neck, I’m on it.)
What do you usually use styrofoam heads for (if you use them at all) if canvas blocks are better for making/storing styled wigs?
+mindwellwasted I have a few on hand to transfer wigs over to when I have a lot of wigs to style.
Amazing! So I have a 21” head but I have natural hair that could possibly make my head size larger. Should I still get a 21” block or go up a size?
I would suggest prepping your hair however you plan to wear it under the wig FIRST and then measure your head circumference for a block; since hair can sometimes make a huge difference in head size.
WigginOutBZ omg thank you! You have a new subbie:) love your channel!
U now have u new subscriber. I loooove u!
Awesome video and preach!!!!!!
+Sabrina Paratore Hi!! I actually have one from about 3 years ago on my channel.
