    Modern F1: If you slide you have about a quarter of a second to save it or it's going around.
    Vintage F1: If you ain't sliding, you're losing time.

      For different reasons. Modern F1 is a pinnacle of vehicle dynamics development and G loading, vintage F1 is a more visceral experience, better noises and a more intricate man/machine relationship. I put my foot firmly in the vintage camp, though I remain in awe of what any F1 car from the early '00s can do.

      @@StarkRaven59 More in the modern F1 camp myself, i love the look of modern f1 cars. Obviously the sound and aggresion of vintage F1 is incredible. The cars are just lap after lap of controlled chaos, its pretty cool too.

      @@StarkRaven59 That's a good way to put it. Modern F1 cars are highly refined engineering achievements. The vintage cars are...well, they're engineering achievements too, but they're brute-force engineering achievements, and death traps to boot. I'll take the death trap, given my druthers. :-)

    • @StarkRaven59

      @@39KHall Mechanical grip versus aerodynamic grip is a very interesting dichotomy. As for death traps, I prefer them motorcycles, and people slide those around plenty too.

    Graham Hill said of the H16 (which he drove in '66); "It had a lot of power ... but we couldn't always keep the power inside the engine."! Then when he moved to Lotus for '67, they started the season powered by the BRM H16 because the Cosworth wasn't ready yet. The H16 won only one race, the '66 USGP, in a Lotus 43. Ironically, the Lotus blew its engine before the race .. so BRM lent them one!

      The brm h16 was more like two flat 8's on top of each other or two very wide v8's that were almost flat. The two crankshafts where joined together by a straight cut gear and they shared a crank case. Looking at a diagram there is no wonder why it was so unrealiable but still very cool and interesting.

    The thing about the 1967 cars were that they fully took advantage of the new engine regulations introduced in 1966. For the early 60s F1 cars were very underpowered with small 1.5L engines. The 3.0L regs unleashed the engineers and allowed them to create absolute rocketships.

    • @mino73T11
      @mino73T11 4 роки тому

      True. However the 1.5 L ones were just some 30 kph slower as top speed and they didn't have to deal with constant oversteering in all gears.... kinda "more human" maybe.
      Now I know that the rFactor v1 mods I play with can't stand the comparison with A.C. about physics at all, but the point is that I keep switching from 1967 to 1965 and back and can't decide which I like best... Different cars, different strategies, but equally delightful.

    I was hoping you'd get round to doing this mod. I had commented on another video posted by a guy named Chris Haye that this mod was a thing of beauty, and it is even more so in action. So much so that I've repeated the vid. Another thing is that apparently it also has old school tracks like this one and the old Riverside circuit, which I don't think has ever been done on any racing game or sim before, and they all have adverts from the period which is completely brilliant. One of these days, I hope to get Assetto on a PC that does the game justice and get this mod, it's very reminiscent of Grand Prix Legends. I still have a copy of that game somewhere, if I get to find it I'll try to play it again some time. In the meantime, thank you for posting the vid, and remember - FULL YEEEEETTTT!!!!!

    Nice! Try not to drive the old cars like you do a modern. They don't like the wild throttle input and you need to set the car up before the corner and follow through with SMOOTH power inputs. Will make life easier

    Terrifying, you said. True! And addicting. I played GPL for a long time. What a marvelous simulation. The starting grid still gives me the creeps.
