Thanks for fulfilling my “learn something new every day” goal. I’ve heard of a flatter stomach, but never just a flatter. That handle is gorgeous! Love, Mom
You'll rot your eyes out! I think that's the best ad read I've seen on UA-cam. Nicely done! And that music edit for the team squishing was highly excellent. Also, you know, nice flatter. One wonder what comes next...
great video and build. i loved the way you integrated the sponsor it added to the video. im glad to see your back to forging. and using your new workbench.
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all, and in the darkness bind them, In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie
Great video!! Lots of squishy metal going on!! So cool to find a fellow blacksmith in your new area. Side note...most entertaining sponsorship ad! felt very natural to your normal interaction with the pair!
Thanks for the video Brett. Nice choice of music, went well with the action. You should not leave those two on their own. They will get up to all kinds of skulduggery. Keep safe and stay well.
Then blue scotch brite (however you spell it) belts are awesome, leaves a really nice finish. I was advised to spray a bit of wd40 on the belt 🤷♂️ so ever since I’ve owned one I’ve done it.
Not particularly. What the internet has popularized as “damascus” or pattern welded steel is mostly for looks. Typically, mixing steels was done for specific purpose, like katanas, where mild steel was used for the spine, while higher carbon was used for the cutting edge.
That's a nice hammer. I noticed you are sometimes pressing and sometimes hammering the stock. Just our of curiosity: When do you press and when do you power hammer?
They both serve the same purpose, moving and shaping. They both have advantages and disadvantages, but what you've seen me do revolves around tools at hand. Presses are consistent and good for shaping, hammers are for moving.
Is that handle mahogany? At first I was thinking that would be too weak for a hammer handle, but i guess a flattener isn't for swinging, is it? Mahogany would be strong enough if it's just for holding in place. And the wedge is osage orange? Strong enough to get whacked into place...
I have a question, since I'm not a smith. When the cylinder was first heated up, what were those pieces coming off it? Were they from the forge, or impurities of the metal, or pieces of metal that cooled faster than others?
I think that might be the flux they are using to keep the steel from oxidizing too much while being heated.. you see it sometimes being sprinkled on the steel/iron before it goes back in the forge. That said, not a blacksmith either. :)
Another very excellent video sir! Lovely tool. I was surprised that you didn't scorch the handle on this one. Any particular reason? Also gotta say that; Yes, the RAID integration was very nicely done.

Thanks for fulfilling my “learn something new every day” goal. I’ve heard of a flatter stomach, but never just a flatter. That handle is gorgeous! Love, Mom
Thanks mom 🖤
Wow... did I just see the best, most seamless advertisement in a UA-cam video...? The flattener is a thing of beauty too!!🖖🔨

You'll rot your eyes out! I think that's the best ad read I've seen on UA-cam. Nicely done! And that music edit for the team squishing was highly excellent. Also, you know, nice flatter. One wonder what comes next...

I had the same thought!
One does not simply make rings
You did.
But riddle me this!
What came first, the flatter or the flatter?
...
...because I saw you needed a flatter to make the flatter and... mind hurts. 🤯
The first flatter would have been ground flat.
i came here to make this comment 😂
He used the flatter to make the flatter flatter!
Lovely work, as per usual, Captain. Thanks for the mighty fine entertainment!

Then blue scotch brite (however you spell it) belts are awesome, leaves a really nice finish. I was advised to spray a bit of wd40 on the belt 🤷♂️ so ever since I’ve owned one I’ve done it.

Nice! Using flatters to make more flatters flatter. Is that flatterception? flattery? flatterecursion??? Either way it turned out cool. Well done!!
Nice!!! Blacksmith skill Level up
Aye
It seems to make things flatter and fatter 🤣 cool tool Brett 🙌
Yusssss
Hi Brett !This is a nice flatter !Great job man !Nice work !😎👍👍Keep it up .Greeting #Bulatsschmiede from germany !
Is there any benefit to layering the material in tools? Nothing like 1000 layer Damascus, but maybe cross layering (90° to each other)?

Brett McAfee That makes sense - thanks.
Awesome build, and cool upload. But dude, Frodo worked so hard to destroy that ring, what did you make another one?! ;) Keep doing what you do!
I apologize for nothing
That is super cool!
Thanks!
Was that 1045 written in blood.🤦🏻♂️..!? At 6:16 you missed a spot!!! 🤣🤣🤣
jk, great to have you all back in action Cap n.!!!!
♥️💪🏻👍🏻
Cheers Nestor

I honestly have no idea what species it is. Just a leftover hunk of something that smells like cinnamon
I have a question, since I'm not a smith. When the cylinder was first heated up, what were those pieces coming off it? Were they from the forge, or impurities of the metal, or pieces of metal that cooled faster than others?

Just general oxidized scale/impurity.
So much excellence.
No you
Nice work. (Seems like a lot of trouble to go to to make a washer though.)
You’re not wrong
Great build, and impressively smooth commercial break!
With this distraction, does this mean that Mr. Scully will stay out of trouble this summer?
I sure hope so
Nice work Brett +1
It's great you can make the tools to make stuff! Is it a flatter your used to make the flatter flat?
How meta
Another very excellent video sir! Lovely tool. I was surprised that you didn't scorch the handle on this one. Any particular reason? Also gotta say that; Yes, the RAID integration was very nicely done.
Mostly just due to whatever that wood is. I don’t know, and I loved the color.
@@skullandspade three very excellent reasons!
Real Nice Bud👍
Cheers Steve!
I agree, you DO need a shave and a haircut.
Also nice work on the flatter, the Cyprussville Forge shop looks great too!
No burnt handle? Either way another beauty for the collection.
No need on that wood. Not even sure what it is, aside from smelling like cinnamon
what does the M 13 stand for?
Just a lucky number and the stamp of the gentleman who helped me make it
Superb👍
Thank you Eric!
Great job, as usual !
I know the 13 is Brett's brand, but what's the "M" ?
I'm guessing McAfee.
That’s the gentleman you saw at the beginning. He was kind enough to invite me into his shop
It flats things :D
It sure do
Wicked nice doinkerator. (Thumb detecting is for amateurs...)

Hahahahahah
I find this video a little flat... Sorry couldn't resist..
he went there
You didn’t burn the handle. I am offended and can no longer abide your insensitive ways.
No apologies
