- On October 14, we went one-on-one with award-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, one of the scribes behind the upcoming Dune and hits such as A Star Is Born, Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Ali, and Munich. Hear about his experiences in the film industry as well as his approach to adapting novels and stories into screenplays.
Moderated by screenwriter and Scriptnotes podcast host John August.
John asks some really wonderful process questions. Really grateful for this.
My favorite writer of adapted screenplays.
Thanks Writers Guild for your educational interviews. Enjoyed this one of one of my favorite screen writers. Glad to hear he’s writing David Grann’s amazing book, Killers of the Flower Moon.
Thank you for this! Brilliant writer.
Love listening to these guys, first saw them on the Academy’s Creative Sparks playlist.
Also, Jo Nesbo is Norwegian not Swedish.
Two of the best movies I’ve scene
Those Insider stories were incredible. Anyone knows where there are more please let me know.
The audio could’ve been slightly better. Eric’s voice could’ve been better.
Fascinating. Thanks. ... Would have been interested to know how 'visual' he is in thinking through his scenes. He talks a lot about dialogue, but how much does he set the scene as he writes ... His relationships with directors is intriguing.
56:50 thanks for asking this
I wonder if anyone here has any theories on why thematic writing has become a lost art it seems? That being writing to a singular underlying "Invisible" theme versus trying to cram it into the literal story.
The host needs to slow down his delivery. He talks so fast he tangles up his words and is almost unintelligible at times.
