Looks like there was contact arcing. I suspect the contacts in the machine are also burnt out. I would have used copper sheet for that repair.
... and a few microns of gold plate 😉👍
Problem is that the person only sent the motherboard so how can he repair the contacts in the machine? I agree with the copper sheet, that seems like the right thing to use to repair these types of traces.
@@samtheruby I had considered that, customer need to be advised that Alex's fix will be for nowt it the contacts are not checked/repaired.
😮
Does the copper braid-wick tend to oxidize over time - if not used? Thank you and yes, agreed on using thin sheet copper
When will be the hammer available on your site? 😀
And of course the swabs! Best swabs in the industry. I swear!
Look at the smile on Alex’s face because he’s working on something meaningfully different. I like it!👍
Sir, you are the best! I have repaired a whole bunch of things, from my wife's car fob to my ps5 all the way to my pc motherboard just from the knowledge i've gained on your channel. Thank you very much! Greetings from Germany!
That Master-Bend 5000 machine sells for around $33,000 new - even old ones fetch around $4.000 on secondhand auction sites.. It' looks like a digital CNC device with a 25A Baldor industrial motor - quite a bit of juice there, BTW a hammer a.k.a LART (large attitude readjustment tool) is quite useful on the customer-relations front as well ;-)
It looks like that whole point goes into a slot, like a PCI card. Will it go in with the added thickness of the braid?
that can be a problem
Yes no problem
@@NorthridgeFix great work Alex keep it up
No
@@NorthridgeFix oooh.. antar pin tidak mempengaruhi kerapatan pin lain dalam penjepitannya.... saya jadi tahu...
This is the kind of attitude kids need in schools. Slightly intimidating, no bs and making it intresting.
Great job copper shim should be best solution for this type of work
why do i forsee a bending machine in the workshop next week? Due to the rest of the tracks being welded to the socket in it.
May want to mention to them that their connector socket might be damaged too; nothing you can do about that though...
Yeah. Someone will need to go onsite and replace the socket. Or send the board with the socket to Northridge to fix.
I think the connector that it plugged into more than likely to have damage also
Copper tape would have been better. Hope the wick doesnt fray out and cause short circuit
Could slightly improve by making sure wick is saturated with solder
What about selling a NF.Hammer in your shop 😂. Great videos. Keep it up.
it will be the best hammer in the market
The broken pieces of trace are probably still stuck in the rest of the bending machine
100%! Hopefully the tech who pulled the board... their game is on point; If not they're gonna let all the smoke out agian!😢
@@scrolldier YUP
Yeah, but i guess that not his problem since only the board has been shipped
I think they are vaporised...
THAT IS BY FAR THE MOST GENIUS REPAIR NONE COULD COME UP WITH...GREAT JOB.
Copper foil 😉 I ve also hammered solid copper wires flat and accomplished the task 😊
i cant finbd the nf.hammer in your shop. is it out of stock? :-)
It would be great to get some feedback from the customer on how well this fix worked - that is all that matters, not our opinions at this point in time.
Today we go MACRO, usually its micro around here 😂😂😂
I would have done the same, but instead of hammering a piece of wick I would have cut strips from a thin brass sheet
I love a good quality bodge. Well done superb job!
I would have sent it to Northridge to get it fixed 🤣
You saved that man thousands of dollars in repairs I bet you every single technician that came out and looked at it and said they needed to replace the whole unit great job bro
He saved the man thousands of dollars ONLY IF THIS REPAIR WORKS. Unfortunately at this time we don't know if it does.
@@allenahale1 it will
Copper tape used for stained glass would also be a good choice.
Good job using what you had for the repair. Copper tape works well too.
It may blow the power supply but those traces will last forever!!! Awesome job!!!
💀😂
Nice job Alex!
This feels about as jank as it gets, i ❤ it
handled the repair better than factory 😆 as always!
Citing 7:57 : "The brain is a nice tool to have if you know how to use it. Otherwise is just a piece of meat, it doesn't do anything." :))
Great comment, Sir!
The hammer is also for proper installation of the 4090 power plug...
Its best to acquire a 2.5 ton Hydraulic Press for that purpose. Also, JB Weld it in place.
Amazing Brade wick - nice repair
As long as it works - copper sheets would be another way - good video
excellent diy solution
Well done.
Rather than braid wick, get copper foil. It is used in stained glass making and is self adhesive too. Available in long rolls just like braid wick and in many different widths too.
This is a case where having the socket and the board together would have helped a ton. More than likely the socket needs replacing as it damaged the board traces.
After applying the glue i would've checked if the top side is still conducting or if the braid didn't suck the glue to the top.
Did it work?
I always keep a hammer just in case I need to hammer out some braid-wick. No-brainer.
Keep up the great content!
Sizi anlamıyorum ama zevkli iş çıkarıyorsunuz.Kolay Gelsin.Turkey
Great way 👏
"Hammering my braid wick ..." sounds like an Electroboom explosion should happen next! :-)
Why didn’t you tin the solder wick completely?
I did
What about nickel strips used for making Li-ion battery connections?
According to the German VDE, tin-plated cables must not be used in screw connections as the material gives way. I would like to know whether similar problems can occur with this repaired clamp connection.
I'm disappointed I can't buy Northridgefix hammer 😁
Any idea if the machine started working again?
Stencil jigs for pcbs to be heated and re train the pcb flatness to allow designed sling and thermal pad/ pressure to operate as intended
will it fit into the slot due to added thickness?
That's what she said
Yes every pins goes in individually regardless of thickness .
woman ask this same question.
Kind of want to see the finished product.
Great Cat skinning work
🐱
You better put that hammer on your website now 😂
It's not a hammer, Alex, it's a customer attitude adjuster.
Alex, you better return that Tonka hammer to your son after you are done with it :)
If the socket was damaged also, I would wire these three connections of this board directly to the motherboard, but with connectors in the wires so you can disconnect the board from the motherboard when necessary.
Just replace the whole header at that point.
@@Sharpless2 only the three affected connection ofc, the card can still be seated, but these three connections I would hard wire
what temperature and air setting u use in smd rework station for desoldering, plz help me
Exhaust pipe bender; this machine bends pipes for new or repaired/modified exhaust for combustion vehicles.
What glue do you use on the braid to the board?
It soldered to the pci slot and the pads are in the motherboard
What kind of glue did you use?
I think the glue would saturate wick and stop it contacting properly, probably resulting in intermittent contact or arcing under load 👍
That was cool and all, but when can we buy the official NorthridgeFix hammer??!! 💻🔨🔨🔨
What microscope do u use sir
What you think about when you grind the slot using NF grinding tool, then you place that wick and glue it will make strong bond and you can keep surface evenly. Also what about the via ? I think its also connect to the another pad. 2nd one from right. Anyway you did a amazing job again. Good luck alex, from srilanka
Thanks for another video! How much is the NF Hammer?
Can you recycle braid wicks?
THICC WICK!! 👍
There is many ways to fix this board. This one also is not bad. At least will hold longer than factory. I get thermal glue so i can glue pads first and then solder them. And i like this metod.
New board is the way to go
Ideally yes, or solder a 3 way connector on flying leads to damaged board and splice other end of connector on 3 flying leads to loom inside machine (if that is possible).
OCC used a pipe bender for motorcycle exhaust's. Those must be power pins that due to use/age got damaged.
Good job. atleast 3 could have been soldered both the ends, BTW I have sacrificed one copper toungue cleaner for the metal strip 😁
You should get some tin-it crystals to make tinning solution to electroless plate the copper.
Northridge Branded Hammer, best on the market
The braid seems much thicker than the factory traces so I would be worried that when you plug the card into a slot that not all of the traces on the card will make good contact with the slot side of things since they are uneven heights.
Hello, was the glue cyanoacrylate (super glue) or something else?
Redesign for more thermal load in that zone or portion
what is the expiration date of amtech flux ?
4:08 LMAO haahha
By the way, I would have also used a flattened copper wire for the traces. :)
Just curious as to why you didn't put solder throughout the whole braid wick?
I did. Already answered.
Craft shops have a copper "paper" .
Alex what happen to the rolls of non stick copper strips someone sent you last year?????????????????????????????????????????????????🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Soldering while having it on a multi meter to keep current flowing while welding
It would be better if there was an update video that let the customer know whether it works or not
Why not use copper tape??
I have a roll, Too thin
The customer should solder wires directly. If the traces are burnt through, how is the socket going to look ?
NF.Hammer?
Nice. Would have liked to see the end result. Probably would have used copper tape for this repair, as indont have wick that nice !lol
What kind of glue is that? Regular super glue?
I would have scanned the board and converted it to a PCB and sent it to JLCPCB for them to make it. Then once I got the new board I would have transferred all the components over.
i would have liked to see the whole braid filled with solder, but thats just me.
Already done. Very solid connection
were the damaged connectors connected to the pads on the other side via the through-holes?
Looks like they should be.
احسنت صديقي هذه الاله مكلفه سعرها يتحاوز ٧الف دولاربالنسبه للطريقه التثبيت ايضا كنت تعاملت بماده uv على الحواف تنجح
I would have run the strips completely with solder so that it doesn't become a bush at the bottom during installation and cause short circuits between them.
And after filling them up, I would have flattened the strips again.
👍
Mr Alex any job in u r organisation
I hope you warned the customer that they may have a fried female edge connector for that board.
Copper glazier's foil may work better
I would use copper tape
Already answered. Too thin.
For a moment i saw a braid wick Hiroshima 😂
👏👏👏
