All of these caps near the PCI-E connector are AC coupling caps for the PCI-E differential pairs (data lines), they go to the main IC of the card. They always come in pairs, 1 pair = 1 lane of PCI-E. On modern cards the data lines operate at GHz speeds, and it is critical that the electrical properties of the two traces in a pair are as closely matched as possible.
I wouldn't be so quick to consider those mellanox Asics down for the count. In some competing products that I am more familiar with a signal to noise ratio of many millions to one is no problem. They are far more tolerant of electrical noise than they were even a couple of years ago. As I understand it it is less a question of "how much noise" than one of "how random is the noise"
@@mauzzz2418 Given that multiple PCIe extension ribbon cables have been shown to still work for a GPU at Gen4 speeds even when daisy chained together, I'd say there's a fair chance this works just fine.

Pad length of a 0402 component is 0.6mm. He is able to grind a pad/via with a precision of at least 0.1mm and you can hardly see his hands shake at the end of a 10cm long tool under a microscope where a cotton swab fills the field of view. Incredible steady hands and skill!

Your website should use a PID controller to calculate the *next* orders expedited shipping cost as the target variable based on the current price and the amount of expedited orders in the queue. After some amount of time you’ll hit your steady-state equilibrium price.

I told they would . It has to be like 1000$ for expedited. Most won't pay maybe some but if they do you might want to do those first. Just for the cash . But 95 $ still is a bargin. What is the purpose of using a pad strip for these torn via vs just soldering component directly to the paste? Genuine question, no smart remark intended, or implied. It wouldn't given more support since the via is still the anchoring point would it? What am I missing? Or is it simply preference?
the circular pad strip provides more surface to solder on to and it's more likely to make a connection with the via when it's pushed over the solder ball.

Did you test the card before and after? I know the problems were pretty evident and no doubt needed done, but I have to wonder what the issue was. For instance, was the card detected by the OS? Or just not able to bring up the connection etc? I'm inclined to make sure it fails consistently first, then make then fixes, then do the same test and watch it work. Beyond satisfaction, it's nice to demonstrate in a video for the customer, etc
A line test would probably need a specific spf connector, a suitable cable and another device at the other end. Personally I ask customers for any additional bits if I don't have them and not too onerous for the customer to bring in/mail in.
Hi NF loves watching your videos every day I learn something from you as I have a passion for this electronic world. I have a question. 1: When you say meter in Diode mode it means meter in continuity mode or diode mode if so what diode mode does it cause I know diode mode is used to check diodes. 2: What if we don't have an LCR meter can we still check caps with a multimeter but yeah for the inductor we need an LCR meter cause there is no option in the multimeter for measuring inductance that's what I know.
What course should I learn to do this kind of work? I noticed that repairing stuff is making me very happy and I want to pursue it as a second job if possible. I'm 40 and quick learner. I have repaired some stuff via soldering like replacing dead usb ports on mobiles and changing batteries on wireless headphones, etc. I want to learn more.
You measured the cap whilst it was soldered on the board? I might have missed him taking one off but measuring caps whilst attached on a board often gives false readings
Maybe you could remove certain categories of items from the ability to have expedited service. If it is something that they could go out and buy, it doesn't make sense to expedite it. But special purpose parts or data recovery does make sense.
Excuse my ignorance. Been watching you forever and I don’t do any repairs at all. But I’m always like “he’s going to use solder mask on that”. 😂. My question on this job is, why bother putting a pad? Kinds of seems pointless since it’s just floating in the solder? Again excuse my ignorance. Thank you and Merry Christmas!
It looks like there's enough room that the manufacturer could have located the caps higher up the board, which would hopefully reduce the chance of the caps getting broken off

Stress will diminish with lots of practice. You have to make mistakes to learn. Practice on donor/scrap boards.
