In addition to the greyness of vehicles now, you seldom see even 1 item of personalisation on cars, not even a window sticker. An air feshener hanging from the rearview mirror is even now a rarity.
Conformity is the order of the day. A Bland and uninteresting World. I hope you are right and there is a colour correction coming. My 1st car was a banana yellow (Daytona) Cortina MkIII 2.0L GT, loved that car fitted out with a Window Louvre, Bootrack, 6ft Whip Antenna, Cibie Spotlights, 2 Rear Fogs, A Cobra Stripe, Black Vinyl Roof, SunRoof with Wind Deflector and a Midland CB with PA Speaker behind the grill (Great Fun for shouting at cyclists and pedestrians), Graphic Equaliser, the obligatory Sharp Radio Cassette of the day, big Shelf Speakers, Door Speakers. You got no equipment back then, you had to retrofit it all.
A colourful interior is a joy
My wife’s yellow Kia is pop of colour in our street, makes me happy to look at it.
Back in the day I had a yellow Datson. It would be nice to see more colourful cars out on the road.
Interesting you should cover this topic now as yesterday evening we were travelling home from Mrs Miller’s fathers house in our blue Volvo when Mrs Miller started a discussion about car colours. We were following a Skoda, probably an Octavia but who knows these days, and it was a very unusual yellowy goldy colour and she asked if I would buy a car that colour. I thought about this and said that I would if it was a PCP purchase but if I were buying new with my own money then perhaps not. If it’s a PCP then you don’t care about selling it on so why not go wild? Well, because lots of manufacturers don’t offer any colours and the one you don’t have to pay an extra tenner every month for is either grey or white. I’m pleased to discover in this report that changes are afoot. Mazda and Renault have some really lovely reds, Kia have a delightful selection of quite natural, earthy colours and even dreary old Skoda have some very vibrant colours, their red isn’t as spectacular as Renault or Mazda but it is very bright and deep. I had a look at BMW’s selection as I recall when my nephew was choosing his PCP 1 Series he noted the boring and small choice of colour and they are still limited and gloomy save for one, a purple called ‘Thundernight’. I bet none of us will see one though, they’ll all be dark grey.
When the sun captures the flakes on Seat's metallic white, it looks very nice, but I do agree with you about the French manufacturers.
I hope you’re right, the worst thing about my Honda is that it’s grey , but buying secondhand the colour is what it is .
I always try to buy colourful cars all mine are nice bright blues but I’d love a yellow car.
I've seen a few Mazdas recently in some very striking metallic reds and blues, they really pop out at you in decent sunlight, and when clean of course. The ones I can't stand are the (mostly) VAG cars that look like they've been sent out before painting them properly, just dull grey primer.
In the 70’s loads of cars were brown😅
Many years ago I had a yellow Rover SD1, then updated that with a primrose yellow Rover 75, always got comments and compliments from owners of grey silver and navy blue cars, but few people were brave enough to own one every day. Long live FHJ794T and W767COA
Car colours have always followed the markets. In the 70s, it was mainly black, cream, and brown cars. When people don't have a lot of disposable income, the basic colour options are a must.
In the mid to late 90s, we had a surge of colourful cars due to the markets being prosperous. Who remembers the vw polo harlequin? For the last 15 years or so, the markets have been rather oppressive. Kicking it off was the global market crash of 2009, which we never really recovered from, banks we bailed out, then we had votes for who is in power, who we trade with, wars we send billions in aid to... a lot has happened in the last 15 years, and nothing particularly good for any of our wallets. I think you might be right, though... change is coming and it can only be good for us all.
I hate orange.
I bought a 1963 double decker in 1979 which had been painted orange and it looked terrible, took us 4 weeks to get rid of the paint.
The Bus is now in majestic crimson and cream.
The closure we get to the end, the more the truth seems to be is 'Germans make boring coloured cars'.

I've just bought (or let's say ordered) a new Renault Clio Esprit Alpine in Shadow Grey!! I must admit I did like the colour, never thought about other colours to be honest!

Agreed. On my recent trip from Aberdeen to Shrewsbury and back i was surprised by the number of modern brown cars i saw. I find it strange that people would shun a nice met red or blue for that
I see Vauxhall Mokkas in Lime Green everywhere. It's a pity that they don't have green interiors like the 1980s Cavaliers and Astras had.

It is of course cyclic. Here in Oz we had purples, lime greens and banana yellows through the 70s. And Holden Vauxhall Fronteras were produced in jellybean colours.
I grew up in drab tan
brown vinyl interiors, and I'm disappointed to see them back, especially in luxury mercs and JLRs.
White and other such dull colours made it easy for fleets., hence white van man

I've noticed a lot of 1970's colourscheme'd modern cars like vauxhaull and ford, saw an orange vauxhaull with a black roof, reminded me of vinyl rooves from the 70s

blue red white or yellow if u have a sports car. i had a yellow camaro bumble bee and people loved it. had a metalic orange camaro 2ss aswell. that was a beautiful colour. inferno metalic orange.
no more muscle cars for me now. all me cash is in investments.
