After rewatching this I realized that, despite it not mattering in the slightest, Piplup landing those 3 friendship crits in a row is INSANE rng. To sum it up quickly, that has a less than 1% chance of occurring. Props to Alpharad, I suppose. Never punish.
Fun fact: with the math gym, if you fail one of the questions one of the trainers will tell you off, asking if you forgot the fact that you own a calculator or if you just did it on purpose
I think they caught on that I was going directly to fight them because they just said “you just wanted to fight me didn’t you?”. The questions were so easy lmao
Alpharad: *cancels Piplup's evolution* Jaiden: "You're not gonna use an everstone?" Me: *thinking* Were you not there when he did this challenge the first time???
Fun fact, you can turn double trainer battles like that double abra fight into 1v1 matches by talking to the individual trainers instead of walking into their line of sight.
The “affection” mechanic and its side effects have been around since XY, but since nobody cared about PokeMonAmie and it’s equivalents, it seems new since BDSP tied it in with the normal friendship mechanics, which is has been around since very early in the series. Friendship usually only affects Return’s damage and the evolution of certain Pokemon, and is raised by just having the pokemon in your party or, when the option is available, walking with them. Affection was usually only raised by PokeMonAmie.
Wdym noone cared. It was the greatest geature ever. The affection stuff ruined it because it made everyone op for no reason. The real reason why it isn't in BDSP is because it wasn't in the original and if game freak *can* cut corners they *will* cut corners. Pokemon games suck now lol
It was also tied in together in SwSh, but you won't get affection benefits in battle since it's capped unless you do camps or whatever it's called in that game. No such cap exists in BDSP.
2:24 if I remember correctly you can fight the 2 abras individually, you need to talk to the trainers instead of passing between them, idk if they changed it in BD
@@samus001221 Which it isn't, you could see it getting outsped every time. Plus a 31IV Piplup has 31 speed at that point without any EVs while a 0IV and 0EV Abra has 32 speed, Piplup wasn't going to outspeed either of the Abras without grinding.
Fun fact: When the Pokémon anime first aired in the 90’s, it was only planned as a one-off series to promote the game. However, it proved surprisingly popular, and there have been over 20 series and 23 films! It’s also currently one of the longest running anime series ever!
"It was available in the Department Store the whole time!" That's what happens when athletes prioritize performance enhancing drugs over developing their natural skills through study and training.

16:04 Fun fact, there's something just like that in Sun and Moon. A year ago I did a run of Moon using only Rowlet, but you can't enter Po town without doing a double battle before entering. I just caught a Rattata and killed it
I still find it funny that a ton of people are discovering that the friendship mechanic existed, even though it's been around since 2013. Ah it's great.
Not that type, the type that can cure themselves from statuses, dodge attacks without any evasion boost/100% accurate, and live hits on 1 HP from an attack that would've knocked them out.
Yeah because the thing about it previously is that it was always tied to minigames that you could avoid doing. Making it tied to following mons almost forces it upon you.
15:06 I discovered this the hard way on my first ever run of the game. All I remember was being every 8 year old ever and crushing everything with my starter… so it was the only one left standing by the time I got to the summit…. And I was very unhappy when I got turned away

(these decisions are more pet peeves of mine, so I won't go into it) They outright _couldn't_ use Cynthia's original set for Spiritomb because both Embargo _and_ Silver Wind got cut from the games entirely in Sword/Shield.
Oh well. At least Embargo's removal made this run possible, yeah?
@@tra12048 If you bring a Pokemon with embargo from a past gen, are they usable if you know?
After rewatching this I realized that, despite it not mattering in the slightest, Piplup landing those 3 friendship crits in a row is INSANE rng. To sum it up quickly, that has a less than 1% chance of occurring. Props to Alpharad, I suppose. Never punish.
Fun fact: with the math gym, if you fail one of the questions one of the trainers will tell you off, asking if you forgot the fact that you own a calculator or if you just did it on purpose
wait which question
I think they caught on that I was going directly to fight them because they just said “you just wanted to fight me didn’t you?”. The questions were so easy lmao

Alpharad: *cancels Piplup's evolution*
Jaiden: "You're not gonna use an everstone?"
Me: *thinking* Were you not there when he did this challenge the first time???
Evidently not.
Fun fact, you can turn double trainer battles like that double abra fight into 1v1 matches by talking to the individual trainers instead of walking into their line of sight.
It wouldn't have made a difference though, the Abra outspeeds and it's a guaranteed 2HKO with Bubble Beam unless he gets a crit.
Good to know you can still do that just like in the original but still wouldn’t of really mattered too much
Abra has basically no Defense. I'd think Peck is better here.
TCNick rises alone
The “affection” mechanic and its side effects have been around since XY, but since nobody cared about PokeMonAmie and it’s equivalents, it seems new since BDSP tied it in with the normal friendship mechanics, which is has been around since very early in the series. Friendship usually only affects Return’s damage and the evolution of certain Pokemon, and is raised by just having the pokemon in your party or, when the option is available, walking with them. Affection was usually only raised by PokeMonAmie.
No, people noticed with Let's Go, the game that merged both stats.
Maybe, if people actually played the Let's Go entries.
Wdym noone cared. It was the greatest geature ever. The affection stuff ruined it because it made everyone op for no reason. The real reason why it isn't in BDSP is because it wasn't in the original and if game freak *can* cut corners they *will* cut corners. Pokemon games suck now lol
It carried on my US nuzlocke
It was also tied in together in SwSh, but you won't get affection benefits in battle since it's capped unless you do camps or whatever it's called in that game. No such cap exists in BDSP.
I love that it shows him getting an everstone in the underground and yet still chooses to hit no after every time piplup levels up
Because that would be too easy. :P

@@samus001221 Which it isn't, you could see it getting outsped every time. Plus a 31IV Piplup has 31 speed at that point without any EVs while a 0IV and 0EV Abra has 32 speed, Piplup wasn't going to outspeed either of the Abras without grinding.
I love how Cynthia, the champion known to be the most difficult champion of all Pokémon, was defeated by a level 69 drugged up baby penguin
Before watching this, I asked myself “what completely unnecessary but hilarious risks will Alpharad make this time” and this run did not disappoint.
Yeah. I was hoping he'd learn he can 1v1 the Abras.
He didn't.
Fun fact: When the Pokémon anime first aired in the 90’s, it was only planned as a one-off series to promote the game. However, it proved surprisingly popular, and there have been over 20 series and 23 films! It’s also currently one of the longest running anime series ever!

"all I can really do is pick a god and pray while injecting copious amounts of healing items straight into piplup's veins" ... perfect
I still find it funny that a ton of people are discovering that the friendship mechanic existed, even though it's been around since 2013. Ah it's great.
It's been around since pokemon yellow
Not that type, the type that can cure themselves from statuses, dodge attacks without any evasion boost/100% accurate, and live hits on 1 HP from an attack that would've knocked them out.
Yeah because the thing about it previously is that it was always tied to minigames that you could avoid doing. Making it tied to following mons almost forces it upon you.
Piplup has been my favourite pokemon since the original gen 4 games had come out and I'm so happy to see this video being done. Thanks Alpharad!
