Just completed this challenge. The 4th gym was a goddamn nightmare. Was unable to beat that damn manectric until lvl 48. Made other gyms much easier. The elite 4 were also a bitch. Had to lvl to 98 to beat the elite 4 and then Wallace. Almost did it at lvl 88 but Wallace and that damn hyperbeam. Victory never tasted so sweet.

I would recommend you a guy called Mah-Dry-Bread (MDB), he has done more than 100 of these Pokemon Challenges with Pokemon even weaker than the Starters. And in nearly all of them he also doesn't use any items in battle (no healing and or defense/attack up items etc.), besides the held-item of the pokemon. And obv the videos are very entertaining as well :)

I love this so much, i've also played through emerald countles times and it's not a super hard game but kinda challanging. Only using mudkip sounds like an impossibility since it is challanging to get though the game with a full team but the proof is right here, it is possible.
Wow. I absolutely adored this style of video. It constantly had me entertained and everything flowed so well it felt like nothing ever seemed out of place or repetitive. The animations were short, but very good and entertaining and it felt like they added a lot to the video. Your commentary also really livened things up, as the jokes didn't seem forced and you talked at a pace that was quick, but easy to understand. There was no point in the video where I felt lost or confused, and it was just overall an amazing video. I would really, really love to see more videos in this style, however I know that this type of content takes an immense amount of work, so I definitely don't expect them to come out constantly. tl;dr I love this style and you did incredible Alpha
@Estatic Luigi i dont think Dig has ANY negative priority. as far as i can tell, mostly only Status moves have negative priority, like Whirlwind and Focus Punch.

I first saw this video when Patterrz reacted to it, and that inspired me to try my own one-mon challenge. Within only a few days, I finished my "Can you beat Pokemon Soul Silver with only a Totodile?" challenge. Things I learned: 1. Totodile CANNOT learn Strength despite Croconaw and Feraligatr being able to learn it, and none of the gift Pokemon you get can learn it either, and you need Strength to pass through Ice Path and get to Blackthorn City. I was forced to catch a Swinub in Ice Path, nickname it Strength, and use it to get through that stupid boulder puzzle in ice path (which isn't even really a "puzzle" it's just "push these four rocks two squares to the left each so they fall down the hole that is *obviously* meant for them, then fall down any of the four boulder holes and go in a literal circle to get to the ladder to keep going.") Seriously, you shouldn't even need to bother with Strength at that point because they already have a way to stop you from going to Blackthorn City before you finish all the plot-related stuff in Goldenrod and Mahogany: at the east exit of Mahogany Town, an NPC stops you from leaving if you haven't defeated both Team Rocket and the Mahogany gym. 2. The "Totodile solo" challenge in Soul Silver is LAUGHABLY easy, especially if you're using a rom and can use the speed up function; I accidentally grinded (ground?) my Totodile up to level 14 before the first gym and basically breezed through the entire rest of the game. The only place I had any sort of trouble was with the Kimono Girls in Ecruteak City, which you're forced to fight before heading to the Elite Four; one of them had a Jolteon and fairly good AI so I just had to keep spamming Hyper Potions until the AI stopped using Thunderbolt and I could get a win. Either that or Soul Silver itself is a laughably easy game even if I hadn't accidentally overleveled my starter because when it comes to Totodile needing to learn HMs, it only need to learn Cut and Surf before you gain access to the Move Deleter, at which point you can delete Cut and give it Whirlpool, then after doing the Whirl Islands bit, delete Whirlpool and give it Waterfall, which is a pretty good move for Totodile to have and you'll end up with a Totodile that knows Surf, Waterfall, Ice Fang, and Crunch for the Elite Four and you can easily breeze through to being the Champion because none of the Elite Four in Soul Silver have Explosion, Self Destruct, Toxic, or any other annoying moves like that (or maybe they do and I just got lucky and they never used them xD) 3. I really like doing "beat Pokemon ____ with only a ____" challenges, but only if I can use a rom and speed up the game 2 or 3x for the first tutorial bit and up until the first gym because otherwise I fall asleep while my rival is explaining to me how to catch a Pokemon. xD

04:54 - Actually a Japanese UA-camr also tried the Mudkip-only challenge and he got around the castform obstacle with an ingenious move: 1. Get two Pokémon eggs from the old lady at Lavaridge town and the Pokebox feature 2. Trade it for 1 male and 2 female Mudkip 3. Have them bang and make more Mudkips until you have a full party of Mudkips 4. With a full party, the scientists can’t give you castform In the end, he legitimately finished the game with *ONLY* Mudkip in his Pokédex! Edit: For everyone asking...yes...he went through the whole game with just ONE Mudkip and defeated the Elite 4 with it. He did not use a whole party of mudkip. The point is, this guy SUPERIOR TO ALPHA. Ok ?

I first saw this video when Patterrz reacted to it, and that inspired me to try my own one-mon challenge. Within only a few days, I finished my "Can you beat Pokemon Soul Silver with only a Totodile?" challenge.
Things I learned:
1. Totodile CANNOT learn Strength despite Croconaw and Feraligatr being able to learn it, and none of the gift Pokemon you get can learn it either, and you need Strength to pass through Ice Path and get to Blackthorn City. I was forced to catch a Swinub in Ice Path, nickname it Strength, and use it to get through that stupid boulder puzzle in ice path (which isn't even really a "puzzle" it's just "push these four rocks two squares to the left each so they fall down the hole that is *obviously* meant for them, then fall down any of the four boulder holes and go in a literal circle to get to the ladder to keep going.") Seriously, you shouldn't even need to bother with Strength at that point because they already have a way to stop you from going to Blackthorn City before you finish all the plot-related stuff in Goldenrod and Mahogany: at the east exit of Mahogany Town, an NPC stops you from leaving if you haven't defeated both Team Rocket and the Mahogany gym.
2. The "Totodile solo" challenge in Soul Silver is LAUGHABLY easy, especially if you're using a rom and can use the speed up function; I accidentally grinded (ground?) my Totodile up to level 14 before the first gym and basically breezed through the entire rest of the game. The only place I had any sort of trouble was with the Kimono Girls in Ecruteak City, which you're forced to fight before heading to the Elite Four; one of them had a Jolteon and fairly good AI so I just had to keep spamming Hyper Potions until the AI stopped using Thunderbolt and I could get a win. Either that or Soul Silver itself is a laughably easy game even if I hadn't accidentally overleveled my starter because when it comes to Totodile needing to learn HMs, it only need to learn Cut and Surf before you gain access to the Move Deleter, at which point you can delete Cut and give it Whirlpool, then after doing the Whirl Islands bit, delete Whirlpool and give it Waterfall, which is a pretty good move for Totodile to have and you'll end up with a Totodile that knows Surf, Waterfall, Ice Fang, and Crunch for the Elite Four and you can easily breeze through to being the Champion because none of the Elite Four in Soul Silver have Explosion, Self Destruct, Toxic, or any other annoying moves like that (or maybe they do and I just got lucky and they never used them xD)
3. I really like doing "beat Pokemon ____ with only a ____" challenges, but only if I can use a rom and speed up the game 2 or 3x for the first tutorial bit and up until the first gym because otherwise I fall asleep while my rival is explaining to me how to catch a Pokemon. xD

04:54 - Actually a Japanese UA-camr also tried the Mudkip-only challenge and he got around the castform obstacle with an ingenious move:
1. Get two Pokémon eggs from the old lady at Lavaridge town and the Pokebox feature
2. Trade it for 1 male and 2 female Mudkip
3. Have them bang and make more Mudkips until you have a full party of Mudkips
4. With a full party, the scientists can’t give you castform
In the end, he legitimately finished the game with *ONLY* Mudkip in his Pokédex!
Edit: For everyone asking...yes...he went through the whole game with just ONE Mudkip and defeated the Elite 4 with it. He did not use a whole party of mudkip. The point is, this guy SUPERIOR TO ALPHA. Ok ?
