You just said everything in two lines: 'John Lydon doesn't seem to care about what his sex pistol fans want, and he doesn't seem to care about what eurovision voters want. He's just making the music that he wants to make. Wild Youth is making the music they think we want and doing a pretty bad job at it.'
@@overthinkingit oh please do! There's some really interesting satire about the music industry, not to mention the way that it was leaked seems to have come from inside the house
@@overthinkingit Do it! DOOOOOOOO IIIIIIIITTTTTTTT I'm Dutch so i naturally want you to cover our song for esc, but i'd like this more(or Czechia, Finland or Moldavia) Pretty please? I'll even forgive that you made that remark about the US metric system.
Looking from outside, this year's song of Ireland is refreshingly irish in accent and clothes of the artists, despite the generic swedish text and music. And the singer has some features which remind me Lord of the Dance's dancers. So I definitely like their song.
I didn't know I need this video. Thanks! I didn't know a lot about John Lydon. I agree with the problem of Ireland's song, personally I like it, but it's just feel a song from the 2010's (which is good) but it has nothing special and it feels like a filler for the competition. But well, I liked more Brooke's song last year and SloMo was not my kind of song, but I think that one was better made to feel more unique and interesting. Well, I know you are busy overthinkers but I really looking foward for your next videos!! I would say this year we have a good amount of songs to overthink, so I want to see which ones are you choosing. 🙂
I'm glad I ran into this channel, your videos are both informative and funny. I look forward your next videos, lot of good potential for overthinking this year! FYI you forgot to put the Croatian video in the 2023 playlist ;)
9:54 I adore how you already have decided that Croatia will win this year. I sure hope so, I love that thing and I am looking forward to vote for it (I don’t really believe they will win, but I sure hope so). So. About this song. I really don’t like it (which is critical, because my mom really likes it). It feels so. Sanitized. Like a middle grade book, easy to read for younger audiences - with a good message, but something that isn’t deep enough to work well for more mature people. And I don’t say a song has to be deep, necessarily. It helps, it distinguishes. But if the music is „good enough“ (in a very broad term), it doesn’t always need to be something you have to analyse first. But this song is BORING. It’s so… lackluster. It’s sad. It’s one more of the very mid-to-low songs this year. It’s the epiphany of non-offensive mid esc song. God, Blanka‘s song is more enticing, at least something is happening, baybah.
Wild should have won. Ireland should take an example from what Germany is doing this year and ensure that if they come last they do so with some dignity. Yes I've been mad about this for over a month.
Matt, It’s not offical, until it has been officially denied. GTPChat, what is the percentage of chance that you might have written this song for the Eurovision Song Contest? ‘As an AI language model, I do not have personal preferences or the ability to write songs. My responses are generated based on patterns and associations in the data I have been trained on. However, based on the language and structure of the song lyrics you shared, it is possible that I could have generated similar lyrics. Nonetheless, it is impossible to give a percentage or quantify the likelihood of me writing this specific song, as I am a machine learning model and do not have personal preferences or creative capabilities of my own.’
"...Lydon constantly strove to move beyond his punk roots." In turning into yet another tiresome old gammon I suppose he's achieved that much at least.
The song was inoffensive. It's funny Jedward was judging as it sounded like something One Direction would have rejected. Glad you had an excuse to talk about John Lydon.
I'm just afraid you guys will have to make a video afterwards apologizing to Ireland for underestimating them if they qualify. Yesterday at Barcelona Eurovision Party they did an excellent show.
5:06 I'm very sorry for this completely off topic question, delete this comment right after answering (if you will), but maybe you know, does this video of Irish national final still exist somewhere? Seems like they deleted it from the official website.
@@overthinkingit Wow, huge thanks for answering! I thought you even had the full show but this is still at least something, it would've been really sad to lose that show completely, with so many ridiculous moments.
How about making a video of the entire jann / poland drama, would be interesting to have a deep dive into that... thanks for your video's, you don't often find eurovision videos like yours :)
I absolutely love how 50% of this video is talking about anything but the winning song
Jedward trying to be nice to John Lydon, while effectively saying his song was crap is one of the moments I will forever cherish as a Eurovision fan.
That was pretty glorious.
Knowing about the Swedish songwriter puts the We Are One the 2013 slogan jokes in perspective

Austria just revealed their song this morning, and I can't help but wonder how many requests you'll get for an episode on that one...
POE POE POE POE! (Not sure we're doing it yet but we sure do like it.)
What about Serbia? That is a material for overthinking it.

Classic OE; giving us an episode on a song nobody but they themselves asked for
Dude if we wanted to make POPULAR videos we'd do a lot of things differently.

Do one about FInland (cha cha cha) please.
Coming in a few weeks!
I would really love to see you guys go back and do a video on Hatari. Nothing in Eurovision will ever be as punk again.

Please make one for Israel's entry. I keep finding new interpretations all the time :D
You could always switch to Country Life butter from Kerrygold - John Lydon advertised it on UK TV twenty years ago after all.
I'm Irish and I totally agree what you say about the Irish entry.
still one of my fave entries this year.

That’s not very wild of them.

Please react to Polish National final. Jann - Gladiator got robbed!
It made me feel like i was listening to One Direction!
I just have a question: Who The Hell Is Edgar? 🤔

Ireland should have picked the Enya type song that came second. Both Hawaii and We Are One are not good but then again I never liked Slo Mo.
