Actually if i recall right there is a variant of the Baneblade called Shadowsword designed to kill titans. They have to work as a group of course, but even titans arent safe to ignore a Baneblade.

    • @SordidusFellatio
      @SordidusFellatio 7 місяців тому +11

There currently are 4 patterns of Baneblade that are designed specifically to be a Titan killer, the Banesword, Fellsword, Shadowsword and Stormsword. The keyword “Sword” in a Baneblade pattern itself is more of a categorisation, Baneblade pattern with the prefix “Sword” are described to be a self-propelled artillery, or more commonly known as Titan killers, whereas other category pattern of Baneblade like the “Blade” in the Baneblade that prioritises balanced speed, armour and firepower to be more of a main battle tank role in the battlefield, the “Sword” pattern entirely commit to focusing on an overwhelming single-focused firepower, they carry the heaviest of the heaviest of weapon available at the expense of every other factor, like the Shadowsword that carry the Volcano Canon that was only known to be carried by the Warlord, Reaver and Imperator class Titan.
Baneblade is probably the most versatile super heavy armament the Imperium have, and the best part it, there’s plenty of them to go around when compared to the Titans where each and every single one of them are unexpendable and irreplaceable, losing even a single Titan would be a huge loss for the Imperium, while at the time it took to lose a single Baneblade, 5 of them are already remade in the nearest Forge world, there are billions of them and hundreds of thousands of them are produced each day, except for the special few rarity like the Ordinatus Minoris class.

Realistically, a Dark Age scout vehicle should be some kind of super-fast stealth jetbike with super-powered sensors. Now, the idea that it was supposed to be a mass-produced regular main battle tank of the Dark Age sounds more plausible while also still being ridiculously over-the-top.

55 cm is the CIRCUMFERANCE. The DIAMETER is 55/3.14 = 17.5 cm Of course that's the low end.
There was actually an experimental tank with a cannon this diameter considered for use by the brittish after ww2. It was called Project Minotaur and used a 183mm rifled gun. It was fitted into a vehicled called FV4005 and was primarily intended to use HESH-rounds that weighed 73 kg.
Even when these monstrous rounds didn't impact the base armor directly, (HESH is easily countered by spaced armor) the kinetic impact from the explosive and the round sheared off bolts, cracked the armor welds, shattered the external optics and jammed the gunmount. A tank with 150mm armor, spaced to specifically counter this type of munition, was comepletely disabled.
I shudder to imagine what an actual armor-piering round with better propellants and twice as long barrel would do.

The Super Duper Mega battlecannon is effectively a WWII 7 inch naval gun. An 8 inch 50 calibres long British BL 8-inch Mk VIII. As it has a 10m barrel length. The B-L8 fired a 116kg shell with a 30kg powder charge. a BL 6-inch Mk XXIII has a barrel length of 7.6m with 51kg shell propelled by 14kg of powder.
So the Baneblade falls in the middle. HESH rounds are generally only used by the British Armed Forces. So the cannon may well be rifled as well. As real World HESH cannot be fired form a smoothbore.
Just for giggles. Four of the 8 inchs in a ship turret is 188 tones. A barrel on its own is 17.5 tons.

Hey arch, as impressive as your videos always are, there is a small correction about the mega battle cannon. A 55cm head means circumference not diameter. Weapon calibre is in diameter. The Yamato’s 19 inch guns means a diameter of 19 inches, a circumference of around 60 inches.
For reference, just the turret which contained 3 of those guns weighed over 20 thousand tons. It is far beyond what a Baneblade would be equipped with.

Meter-long shells and a human-head-sized barrel indicates to me that the Mega Battle Cannon is somewhere in the equivalency of an eight-inch naval gun. Quick lookup shows the USN 8"/55 was round about 11m long with a bore diameter of 20cm, so it'd fit the description, roughly.

22:39 well a couple of points; Pasteel that's used in armor is supposed to have a rather absurd level of tensile strength for it's thicknesses and weight (it's supposededly light enough to be used in aircraft construction in some forms). Then the front armor of the Baneblade is said to have a layer of solid Adamantium armor plating mixed in, the stuff that Titans and Starships are armored with, which is so absurdly hard/dense/heavy in armor form that even Terminator Armor only uses it as it's bracing to hold the suit together rather than as it's actual plating and even melta weapons have trouble dealing with this stuff. In the Lore the front end of one of these monsters are essentially immune to Tau Railguns from Hammerheads and Broadside Battlesuits (a weapon that has a terrifying reputation in the Guard) and even side hits require multiple shots to cut through the plating.

It's on the same page as the Bren gun being too accurate. It's a boast someone made and someone else ran with it without knowing the context. A full paragraph about the Bren.
For those that don't know, the Bren is the Brittsh LMG from world War 2, basses on a Czech model 28 or something. That one gun with the mag on top. But not the Owens. Anyway, it's said that the Bren was too accurate to be a good LMG. By who? People who don't know the name of the gun it was based off of. (Lol, literally me.) I digress. My assumption on the origin of that claim is that a British and American LMGer erte talking about their guns. The American probably said something like the BAR is too heavy. The Bren gunner responded "yeah, and mine's too accurate" as a way of "I'm better than you. And I know it." Someone overheard it and didn't get the intended slight.
My source for that is that I made it the fuck up.
Bren over. Very similar to the BBSH bring called the equivalent of a light scouting vehicle. Not that it was a scout vehicle, but armed like one. Comparing the Bane Blade to what was available at the time of the Dark Age of Technology is like comparing a scout car to a Tiger 2 or a KV-2.

In that way it would be much more lightly armed than the bigger Capitol Imperialis type vehicles whose predecessors would be considered the heavier version. The Mechanicus is likely building these things with incomplete specs on armor materials and probably some flaws in propulsion and power generation that don't allow it to operate at full capability, but have taken to adapting the design to different mission roles and profiles.

As @leerobson411 said, the Mega Battle Cannon caliber estimate is overblown given the actual human head size.
In my opinion the Baneblade gun would be somewhere in the region of 8 inches in diameter depending on how the 40k propellant of choice behaves. Which still leaves you with an impressive 50-caliber weapon. A bit stubby, but a gun used on WWII heavy cruisers.
And guess what! A fully autoloaded turret of that size by the USN (from the 70s) does fit into the Baneblade weight-wise! So while not as ridiculous, an 8-inch tank cannon is still quite insane.
While the Demolisher? That smells and feels like the Sturmtiger's main gun. With that short a barrel, a rocket projectile is the best way to achieve a siege effect would be a rocket-propelled shell in fact.

It's mentioned a couple times, and it's easy enough to take Arch's point in the discussion, but Force is _not_ Mass plus Velocity.
The formula is usually described as F=ma, where m is mass and a is acceleration, or velocity squared.
So, Force is not Mass plus Velocity, but instead is Mass _times_ Velocity _squared._
In the context of tank cannons, kinetic-energy penetrators rely on that super-high velocity to vibe check enemy armor plates, and they can frakking MOVE. Modern APFSDS rounds ("Armor-Piercing, Fin-Stabilized, Discarding Sabot") zip along at roughly a mile per _second._ The faster ones are hypersonic, breaking a few hundred feet per second beyond Mach 5.
    Speed kills the Emperor's enemies.

@vi6ddarkking depends on where the Rogue Trader does this, how powerful the Rogue Trader is personally, & how powerful/important the Inquistor is... if the Rogue Trader did it IN the Imperium then he's going to definitely be killed as the Inquisition AND Order of the Dragon (Mechanicus have their own "Inquisition" to investigate/deal with tech-heresy) compete with each other for who gets to be the one that actually kills him. But if out in an Expanse outside the Imperium where the Rogue Trader Warrant is active... he could most likely get away with it & just be basically exiled and/or excommunicated from the Imperium (a massive problem for Rogue Trader operations) that as long as he never returns than the Inquisition and/or Order of the Dragon wouldn't invest the massive resources it would take to kill him out in the lawless Expanse that is the Rogue Trader main powerbase.
Though other Rogue Traders could be incentivized to launch Trade Wars against him to weak him or be forced to exclude him from their own operations... that way it weakens him so that after a while (possibly a generation or two) then they could finally swoop in to wipe out his him/his family.

2 - Rockets can be SIGNIFICANTLY faster than anything fired from tube based weaponry (for example the UK's starstreak system is such a thing - thats a manpad with a small size) Issue is that rockets take time to accelerate. As such they dont offer much kinetic penetration at short distances, as thr rocket is still in the process of reaching the extreme speeds needed for penetration.
If you go for multi stage rockets they can reach speeds 1 or 2 orders of magnitude larger than tube based artillery.
Firing rocket from a cannon effectively gives you a 1st rocket stage for free.
And if we ever get propellants like solid hydrogen, rocket propulasion will be leagues ahead of conventional guns.

3:55 A 55cm wide head? that's a deadly serious case of hydrocephalus, Arch.

'pretty sure the demolisher canon is here to clear structures and debris on the tank's THICC path. It makes roads out of brick walls so it sounds like a logistical thing.
I'm curious about how that many shells can fit for both guns in such a confined space though.

    Hallo Arch
I think the caliber, of the mega battle Canon is a bit off.
Yes, the head size of most humans is around 55 mm. Giv or take. But, Thatcher is the cirkumfrens, not the diameter.

if you are a good shot, or a crazy bastard like a spess meringue or a mushroom, you can probably pretty reliably deposit hand held explosives into the 2 main barrels.
And Daemons. And magic in general.

An 10m+ long barrel with a 550mm+ bore would dire one hell of an APFSDS round. Probably enough to punch clean through a titan with its void shields down, doing oh so much damage along the way.

The Shadowsword is the most 40k, and therefore the best, Baneblade variant. If you disagree you are wrong.
