(not buy me, they're waaaay too nice! they were painted by the very talented Daniel Kerrick) Check out The Napoleonic Wargamer Buy and Sell group on Facebook and bag yourself some very nice units!**
    So, the How to Start Prussians video is finally here! Going in I had absolutely zero interest in collecting them, but now, that Hiller brigade...hmmmm :D
    Hope you guys enjoy, if you'd like to see 1806 let me know, and I'll see you in the next one!

    I have broadly followed your guidelines for this, as I am making a small Prussian army for my brother. I made one Landwehr regiment, two regular three battalion regiments with the fusilier conversion kit; the small jaeger unit AND a reserve infantry regiment (using Portuguese Warlord figures). I also did the Warlord hussars (not a fan) some of the new Perry Prussian dragoons , two command bases and two artillery batteries. ALMOST done and they look impressive, particularly the Princess Louise dragoons.

    Two years ago, a Warlord Games sprue clearance took place, I got a WHOLE bunch of landwehr sprues (1 pound for 6 minis, 4 pounds per battalion). A small kitbashing for command, and I now have 6 landwehr battalions for 24 pounds. Plastic prussian cavalry is imminent also, so a good time for Prussians!

    The alure of epic scale in a nutshell, the first £100.00 buys 4 battalions, a gun and bases.
    For £65.00 (3rd party retailer) gets you 5 battalions of Landwehr, 8 battalions of line, 2 battalions of ranked Jaegers, a unit of skirmishers, 6 units of cavalry, 11 guns, 8 colonels, bases and flags.
    I do love my 28mm as the glory of the uniforms can be clearly seen.
    I like the epic/15mm for bigger scale battles and the fantastic value. Epic has to be a very attractive way to get into ACW, Napoleonic and now ECW/30YW.

    Here, hear Tim.I’m still slogging through my British & Peninsula War army but eventually, if I live that long, I’ll be looking for a new theater & a new army.I’ll be wanting to stick with my French so Prussians of 1806 would be the natural foil for them to oppose.Besides which I don’t believe I’ve even seen illustrations of the 1806 Prussian army & it’s uniforms, so please do put together a video on the subject. I’m really enjoying the advent calendar game,although I don’t recognize most of the films & can’t imagine doing all the work it would take to figure it all out, its put you & me both in the good graces of my wife,as she grew up with that tradition so recognizes & appreciates my enthusiasm. The thing to note about the Warlord Landwehr is that they did redo them- the current version are ok but the earlier version look like playmobil. You can still buy the earlier version from some resellers- avoid. The warlord casualty pack is good imho and the standing casualty figs can be used to break up static lines. The warlord landwehr command packs have some nice poses but are costly. You get an office figure and a drummer in the landwehr box but you dont get a standard bearer, so either modify an infantryman ( easy) or get warlord or perry landwehr command. The perry option gives you 2 x different sets of 3 figs.
    Absolutely agree on the flags. In big games in particular they are what you see...

    Some great ideas Tim. I’m thinking of doing an 1815 Prussian force for Sharp Practice so it’s good to know what the Warlord and Perry sets are like. But I must admit, given the relatively low figure count for the game I might just hang the expense and go fo Front Rank or Calpe. But I agree that would probably be too pricey if I was doing big battalions for Black Powder or something similar. 🙂

    'Silesia' and Silesian would be the English words for 'Schlesien' and 'Schlesisch'. The 'e' in Schlesien is spoken like the 'e' in 'well'. The rest of your pronounciation was good. They had 2 howitzers and 6 cannons. So every thing is fine with that. None of the units of the 16th Brigade had flags. They were issued in the autumn of 1815. Because this is the case with most Prussian units, I do one miniature more per regiment, to change it for display or for more historic accurate games.

  • @AustinBecht
    @AustinBecht Рік тому

    I know this is an older video, so my comment might not mean much, but... the white circle on the shako for Fusiliers was only for the 1812 campaign. Perhaps reasonable if you're doing an army for that time, but then you wouldn't have Landwehr as the draft wasn't till the 1813 German campaign. That said, Fusilier cross-straps were black, which is a pretty simple painting distinction that is less year-dependent. They wouldnt normally carry standards either, being a light battalion, but hey, flags are cool.
    Also, I'd love to see a video on starting the 1806 Prussians! The available options are far more limited so it'd be nice to see how far you could stretch the budget.

    I wouldn't use Warlord Landwehr even if I got them for free. They are horrible. Perry's are OK as long as you don't have to use and metal models. If you are serious about doing Prussians you have only 2 choices. Calpe miniatures which has the best and most extensive range of Prussians, or Frontrank miniatures which also have a good range. They can be used in the same army, though I wouldn't mix them. They are close but still enough of a difference in 28mm. As for uniform variety you only have to look at the reserve units. One Regiment of 3 battalions could have 3 different uniforms. Especially in 1813/14. Great serise always enjoyable.
