this got recommended to me and I was very confused as to why someone would want to start collecting Italians and how they would go about this so, naturally, I decided to watch imagine my surprise when he meant figures, not actual Italians
A perfect video for me. I already have 1 Italian brigade and some dragoons, but this 'starter' video is a great idea for the next step. Excellent video as always
thanks - have an Italian Corps in 15mm that not used for a long time. Including the Velites of Turin in light blue, the Dalmatians using Austrian Jagers, Gardes d'Honneur using French Line Lancers with the lances replaced by swords
yes I have some 15mm units for them. Including did the Guard Unit which was basically French uniform but with pinkish facings on blue. Plus the Berg, as was, Lancers that got incorporated
@@NapoleonicWargaming I have the waterloo set and panted and based them as 24 man battalions (french) so far.how well do they match up against 36 man units game wise?
Great video. Victrix Austrian Grenzer can be used as the Italian Dalmatian/Istrian infantry at a push. If you're doing the mid war then swap their heads for French shakos.
Just a note of interest. I commissioned steve barber minis to sculpt me a eugene de beauharnois model so that should soon be a commander folks can order!
i think the normal Line artillery were just in Green not Blue and also the Guard Horse Artillery wore a similar uniform to the French Guard Horse version. Also the Italian Guard Foot Artillery were similar to the French
Great programme. I love maxing figures. I plan to mix up my Italian army with some (emigres) from the Kingdom of Naples, well they are all Italian.... I relaise this is not for the purists but the Neopolitan army has some outlandishly wicked figures and uniforms. I would appreciate a programme on the basics of tools and paints to get started as I am getting back into the era and have a lot of figures to prep and paint. I would really, really appreciate a "pin-along" as I have 100+ figures to pin Czapkas on. There are some videos on this but they are not specifically for Napoleonics and I like your stye of explanation, many thanks again for your time, especially over a bank holiday weekend. Much appreciated and enjoyed. Cheers, Nick.
@@vanpallandt5799 I read somewhere that one of the cavalry units was still wearing them later. I don't think it was the whole regiment, maybe just one of the flank companies. I remember noting it down as useful info for my own Italian project, but I cannot find my notebook now.
Question; Are there any lines of 25mm metal figures that work along with 1/72? I've exhausted the plastics lines and was hoping to find someone other than Franz Nap (which are are great) that wouldn't dwarf my other figures.
Nice. I just found you a couple days ago. Would the black powder rules make for an ok fantasy war of napoleon vs robert e lee? Would there be any converting between the two army's?
Thank you, been watching your vids now for a while, I have started a project of my own, thou before I invest thousands of pounds dollars... live in Canada so you could Imagine what it would cost me, and need to find and convince some friends to play with my folly games. I’ve decided to build my army with rice... lol. Now I my doing early Napoleonic wars, what did the Italians have back then? Cheers.
Ha! Well, it's a start! 😂 They were a fairly full army, with a guard (2 battalions of infantry as taked about in the vid) and a regiment of elite dragoons. They had regular dragoons, chasseur a cheval. Line infantry and light infantry as well as the standard artillery. You can also add some fun units like the national guard of venice...I mean, I'm not saying that I'd have halberd wielding Papal Swiss Guard for a bit of fun...but I'm not saying I wouldnt... 😂
Very nice video as always! I don't know if you have a system of how you pick the nations you do these guides for. Perhaps you just pick randomly, would be very nice to see some scandinavian nations such as Denmark-Norway or Sweden.
@@NapoleonicWargaming You are correct, thanks for clearing that up. Italy at that time consisted of Piedmont and some other northern city/states along with the papal lands - is that right?
i asked you about danish infantry in the livestream (i hope your not fed up by it) but you said that you didnt have much knowledge about it yet. i have collected some articles by the perry brothers, and others. i can send it to you if you want. but your probably busy with some other projects right now 😆
Did you ever nail down WHY you do foot battalions of 24 and cavalry of 8? Or is it just a case of "my group does this, because my group does this"? Also, that finagling with Perry deals feels a bit familiar :p (then again, I highly doubt that I am the only one who's done the math on that). But you probably need to stop making these videos, I keep trying to run off in different directions :p
The reason is 2 fold. The first on is that it gives a ratio of 1:33 which is, admittedly, a rather old fashioned way of doing it, but still popular. Second , and more pertinent, is that the series started off with the Waterloo Starter Set which is very much set up to have 24 figure units. Hope that helps! Ps, I want to do Italians now too! 😂

Good evening. I would like to say that I enjoyed this video.
I had a feeling it would be the italians this week
Awesome content as always. I have this set I'm painting them as french and going for 36 man units. This may be an option for my next big purchase.
Yeah I use 36s for French, but 24s can work too! They make a nice painting change!
