  • 2024 Yamaha Raptor 700R Test Review. For 2024, the Yamaha Raptor 700R turns 18-years-old, remaining as relevant as it was the day of its release. A sport ATV loved world-wide, due to its historically unmatched balance of performance, durability, and comfort. Since our last test of the Raptor 700R in 2016, very little has changed. Unrivaled, Yamaha believes there’s been little reason for updates.
For this test, we wanted to accomplish two things. First, get a fresh take on the Raptor from experienced riders who’ve never ridden it. Secondly, with the lack of modern sport ATV options and nearly every sport ATV ever produced being utilized for various types of racing at some point in history, we’re wondering if it’s past time to start considering the 700’s as a potential race machine for different disciplines.
To help us compile a fresh review and evaluate the Raptor’s potential for competition in an area where its stock attributes seem ideally suited, we met up with ATV cross country 30+ GNCC racer, Doug Kiric, and GNCC B class racer, Isaac Hart. Our test was held at Hidden Springs Ranch in Springfield, Ohio, where the OXCR holds races, providing a cross-country loop with mixed terrain that our riders were very familiar with.
No matter who we’ve invited to throw a leg over the Raptor for us through the years, they’ve always come away impressed. Most impressive to us is seeing how quickly two cross-country racers took to a machine that has been mainly overlooked by racers for nearly two decades. As popular as it is world-wide, there are obviously still riders out there missing out on what the King of sport quads has to offer.
Our riders felt the Raptor 700 is a great sport ATV for short trips or long rides. It’s well suited for the woods, the dunes, desert, or just about anywhere you want to take it. Watching during testing, and listening to our rider’s feedback, more than anything, the 2024 Yamaha Raptor 700R continues to excel at delivering maximum fun.

we all owe a big thanks to yamaha for being the one and only manufacture that still makes an awesome machine like the raptor 700

Agreed. As a sport quad fan , it would come into consideration if we were purchasing other vehicles as well. The fact that Yamaha builds sport ATVs would make us more likely to consider their dirt bikes. Plus the fact that they make great dirt bikes.

Doubtful. The younger crowd prefers sport quads but they have no money, especially being $10k to get in the game. Older crowd has the money but prefers utility machines. I made the transition from a pristine and low hour Honda 400EX 10 years ago (In my mid 30s and I hated to sell it as it was like new but I had no real use for it) to utility quads and I'll probably never go back. The vesatility of being able to switch to 4wd, plow snow, perform property maintenance, gather fire wood w/ lawn cart, a nice ride on the trails AND a much lower price to play? What's not to like?

@@anthonyg6221So true. You get so much more for the money on a utility quad... If they lowered the price on the sports from 10k down to around 6-7k they would probably sell a boat load of them.

I picked up a 24 700R in October last year and I love it. I took it to Little Sahara OK and had a blast in the dunes and looking forward to going back. I did the Big 3 in December and I'm ready to go back to the sand. For the Pure Sport and Sport ATV industry its kind of sad that Yamaha is the only manufacture still making quads. The new age of the 1L 4x4 machines is amazing and I though about getting one of those, but to me a small light weight 400lb machine just seems better. I also want to get a 450 this year and try to go to a local track and start racing (back of the pack mind you) as that just seems like the right thing to do ya know. Anyways, props to ATVonDemand for this review, props you Yamaha for continuing to pump out YFZ and Raptors. Maybe oneday we will get some competition again in the sport quad industry and see the revival similar to the early 2000s.

    • @ATVonDemand
      @ATVonDemand  4 місяці тому +3

Your Raptor will run much better in the dunes now! We think that there are a lot of people out there that would prefer a lighter weight, Easier to work on and more affordable traditional sport quad. We hope to see a resurgence as well. Good luck in your racing endeavors. Keep us posted.

*_This is such weak sauce these days!_*
_It's 2024 and Yamaha has an opportunity to take advantage of some of the amazing new technology that now exists, & completely capture the market with a true high performance beast!_
_Perhaps they too are just giving up, I mean.. they did say they are done manufacturing snowmobiles!_
_I would have loved to see an 80hp hybrid setup for once. and give us laser led headlights for christ sake!_
_We wanted a mind blowing re-release of an only semi-familiar beast!_
_Back to the drawing board to make it bigger, wider, and a hell of a lot meaner!_
_This thing needs a thousand and one revisions!_
    _Major L for them!_
*Clearly they don't realize the lack of sales is only because the true machine people want to see simply just does not exist, so they go elsewhere!*
*The interest is there, and so are the buyers!* *This sport is farrrrr from dead!*

USA is a huge market so any thoughts of sports quad production restart would have the us as the core market.Plus all the green taxes we have in Europe, fuel emissions etc would make it difficult to sell significant numbers here to make sense business wise.Been wondering if something could have been done based on the drz 400 recipe, cheap reliable and sell big numbers.

I really feel that Yamaha could make some small improvements to the raptor such as the front bumper mounts are very under built, also the upper shock mount and lower A arm mounts are under built. I assume they are built that way for weight savings but it takes away from longevity of the frame

Wish they'd bring the banshee and warrior back. Do the banshee in the original 350cc twin cylinder 2 stroke but also offer a 550/600cc twin cylinder 2 stroke motor. Do the warrior in the original 350cc 4 stroke and then also in a 550/600cc 4 stroke motor. And then keep the raptor in the 700cc motor and for the yfz450 keep it in that size but also offer it with a 650 to 700cc 4 stroke race engine. That way no matter your body size/weight, level of skill riding, where and type of riding, if you are going to actually race it on a mx track, cross country Enduro type racing, go to the big sand dunes ect there is a platform style, size, power and 2 stroke N 4 stroke available. They'd sell really well I think and open up a lot of racing classes, locations/types for the brands and also people who may not like or feel the platforms offered are what they enjoy and races or trails ect are what they enjoy doing.

I called and asked for the cash price out the door. That instantly became $8600. I ended up going to aa house not far from mine to get a Ninja 300 with 2400 miles on it. He asked for 4K. That was the price when I got there. I am, not picking on you but you know damn well the dealer will not let that bike go for less than 40 to 50% above MSRP. @@ATVonDemand
