I've had a few Chinese 4 stroke dirt bikes that I got used... I know one was a 2003 and one was I believe a 2009... I'm not sure about the other. Anyhow, I think these bikes are decent as long as you're honest with yourself about what they are. They make a reasonable, cheap, trail bike. They're great as a buddy bike... I don't have mine anymore, but if I had a friend who wasn't much of a rider, I would put him on one of those far before I would put him on my YZ490, IT465, RMX250, or KDX200. If the Chinese bike got wrecked, it would suck, but it wouldn't be nearly as much of a loss as the other bikes - nor is it likely to hurt the person nearly as badly as the other bikes can.
@@LTLT900 definitely a fun bike! I went from my late teens to my late thirties without doing any riding, and my IT465 and a KTM 525SX were the first bikes I bought when I decided to get back into bikes. Having gone 15+ years without riding, my clutch instincts were way too rusty, and I grabbed the bike by the throttle, without grabbing and engaging the clutch first. You should have seen that bike spin me around in a 360 as it roared around me! I've had a lot of fun with it since, but I need to put on a new gas tank - the old one finally cracked from being old and brittle. I have the new tank, I just need to get around to putting it on.

Do you guys have any info on the 10ten 250rx? Reading online its a bigger seat height, im assuming its probably the same engine to being chinese like the slam
I’ve got 2 thumpstars , Australian Chinese bike brand . I’ve own the Japanese enduro models over the years and thought I’ll try a little 140 big wheel simply as a trail weekend ride . An equivalent model would be a KLX140 ( note klx is a much better bike ) . Met some riders and went for a quick blast through some tight sections track and it blew me away . I averaged middle in the group with my 140 . Until we go to open trails , then the better Japanese / euro bike took over and then I was placed at the back of the pack . Pros of better end ‘ Chinese bikes ….reasonable inexpensive, actually not cheap n nasty , can be relatively reliable with maintenance , plastics and some machined aluminium parts are of a high standard , welds on the bike are good . Cons …. The ergonomics isn’t right there atm but not far off , sure some bolts are rubbish , probably it will last 5 years but I’ve got confidence in the YX 140 motor to keep going , KTM riders won’t talk to you , but that’s just jealousy. ( if I was racing I would buy a KTM , please not hate mail ) Think of the Chinese bike as a vintage car , it goes well , just got to keep a spanner to it.
@@999lazerYou picked the wrong Chinese bike. Everyone knows anything that's air-cooled is no faster than an eighties trail bike. Next time get the proper bike and go with something liquid-cooled.
I have a GPX pitbike (fse 140). It’s a great little bike, especially for the price. The only gripe is that I can’t get parts for it as easily as anything else.
I rode something like this year's ago. Mate bought one brand new second hand for $1200. It looked great could tell it was barely used. He thought he had the deal of the century. I warned him there's a reason someone rode it once and sold it straight away so cheap to get rid of it. Took it to the local tracks he rode it up and back on one flat straight dirt road barely any revs said it's good. Asked me to ride it. Well it was the worst balanced puss bucket I'd ever got on. Was so front heavy it felt worse than an old school twin spring road bike in the dirt. I rode it into some lose stones at low speed the front burrowed in so I gave it a bit to lighten the front end and drive it out and save myself. It burrowed in further with a slight lean and dumped me on the high side. Those lose stones were hardly noticeable on every other bike I rode that day. From CR 80, RM 125 with an old It 250 engine I stuffed in the cradle and a hand full of other assorted bikes we had. Even a couple cheap Chinese kids bikes we were toying around on. That cheap 250 he bought was absolutely dangerous. Soon as he got a little confident on it it threw him to and he quickly realized what I was saying to him. Every other rider that day had a go on it had similar experience's and it sat there cold the rest of the day. No one wanted any part of it. It was sold near new straight away. (to another unsuspecting novice who figured he'd got the deal of the century. ) It was an absolute death trap. He went got himself a brand new yz 125 that week. And never looked back. I can't remember the brand it was, it certainly looked the part. I could feel in the first 5 meters this thing was dangerous. Maybe these companies have put a bit more effort into weight distribution and suspension since 2010 but for me till I feel it in action it's still a big fat no. I'll stick to my yz250 2t. Least I know it soaks up the bumps, corners, weight distribution, suspension and power to drive you out of a sticky situation is on tap. I grew up riding old bikes, anything with 2 wheels and a motor was a dirt bike to us. I'd say I've ridden some of the worst handling bikes imaginable in the dirt (some were old 70s roadbikes and even posty bikes) but this thing was absolutely terrifying and unmanageable. I am hoping they get better because new bikes have ridiculous high prices for entry level and good second hand bikes are still fetching very high prices for a beginner.
@@999lazer better off saving the money and put it towards a chinese model with full suspension water cooled and EFI, I think that's a better comparison, they even have 450's now
I'd be concerned of when things break finding replacment parts. Jappy bikes have tons and tons of parts and aftermarket availability that make getting parts super simple
I would still go for the Yamaha! But that Chinese slam bike did a lot better than I thought......... And for that price... Now iam wondering for how long it will keep running doing standard maintenance like air filter and oil 🤔
Oh for sure, I have the YZ every day of the week. But the Slam genuinely did surprise us! Maybe we should try and get hold of one for a long term test so we can found out the answer to that...
I think it's part to the fact that if you're buying a Chinese bike you can't afford to go to the track. Plus they aren't making it to 20 hrs without some bad issue. Speaking as a 17 year motorcycle mechanic.
I think he's probably talking about the whole bike. I recently had to repair a YCF, no proper service manual. That had an endemic problem with the clutch gear failing to the starter shaft. Basic design issues were present, low cost wire and switches and components is another issue. You buy a bike because of reliability and maybe good for the first 20 hours. Some Chinese manufacturing is more refined but got to do research.
My friend had a ssr pitbike years ago. I forget the cc but it was a very torquey 4 stroke motor we loved ripping wheelies on it until we blew the clutch😢
Would love to see a review of the GPX tse 250 I think it's a Chinese copy off a KTM 250 exc 2stroke also sure there's a 300 version, great videk as always to Max keep up the great work definitely produce the best Motocross content on yt in my opinion 👌

Good video, the race was fun to watch. I can't speak on Slam specifically, but if they're anything like the Chinese dirtbikes I've worked with/owned, I highly recommend replacing any fastener you remove. The bolts and nuts are the cheapest part of the bikes, and have a tendency to turn brittle.
I live in China and I bought a Hengjian HJ250, which was not bad at all considering the price. But, I had an engine bolt fall out, I some how sheered another engine bolt and bracket clean off, the fork seals were shot, the brakes were terrible, the chain broke twice, the battery was always dead and the foot pegs broke. There were a few other small problems I had which were cheap enough to fix but it was a bit annoying that after almost every time I rode there was something wrong. However for a seventh the price of any Japanese bike it was worth the money as it wasn’t necessarily built for MX. Would I buy another Chinese bike? No! Although they are improving the materials and technology is still way behind but they are getting better and better.
I'm actually on my second Chinese bike, I have a Tao DB17 that I've ripped on so much and it still goes strong. Most recently acquired a Lifan KPX250 and it does everything I need it to do and has yet to cause me any issues. I cannot stress enough to do your research, because yes that cheap cheap bike is going to be exactly what you get, cheap in every sense of the word.
For enyoing off road experience with a small purse this chinese bike is hard to beat . I 've been looking for second hand off road bikes around 2000€ you get nothing without throwing more money at it to get it decent. This is a new bike! Would be a blast to start a club or training sessions even for grass track
When it comes to Kung fu movies I’m on the Chinese side but when it comes to bikes , I’m a Japanese supporter. I’ve owned 4 Suzuki’s & a Yamaha & a Honda a Chinese Sinnis 125 off roader & a couple of Triumphs. Good video 👍
My father worked for a British bike company in the 50s. He said that when the Japanese bikes first came in they were like disposable bikes, flog them for the weekend then throw them away were there bikes were serviced and reused the following week. But it didn’t take long for the Japanese quality and reliability to improve to the point were they were dominating everything by the end of the decade.

If Sean hadn't missed that shift, I don't think he would have gotten by him, that was a fumble, but. It was still pretty close at the end. I think the roost would have kept him in loser place, 2nd. But that was a good race, nonetheless. Riding a new bike Is like nothing else you don't have to worry about so many little things. IF you actually do preventative maintenance on your bikes those motors will last so long, but cheap things get treated cheap.
100% agree , I’ve got 2 Chinese bikes . I’ve owned Japanese motocross and enduros . I brought the Chinese ones as a joke then realised “ hang on , sure they were inexpensive but cheap, no.” Sure I don’t thrash but just trail ride , 2 year since new still going strong .
You would be amazed at how much of a Japanese or Austrian bike is made in China. There are a few KTMs now that are fully built (but not assembled) in China and I’d bet the same is true for most Japanese too.
Not gonna lie the Chinese bike did a lot better then I expected, especially for being air cooled with such less suspension. You should do a video after upgrading the wheels and suspension and run it back. I bet those wheels weigh a ton and rob a ton of power.
First and foremost: We're talking 2-Stroke vs. 4-Stroke in doble CC displacement... so what's even the point? It's truly not 2:1 power-wise between the two. Gotta say the Chinese bike was VERY IMPRESSIVE!

My kid has a Gio. I have ordered so many parts. I order a part every time we take it out it seems. This weekend I almost threw it into the street with a Free sign. Stopped at Yamaha to check out the TTR-50.
I wish you guys did more of a shakedown of the bike rather than just a race. Not discrediting you, but there are so many variables in a race. I want to see the shakedown
My income allows me to try one of these as I went and ordered a TrailMaster TM35 250 and surprisingly it was solid and amazingly built well. After a NIBBI carb swap, chain and new brake pads it held a line. My 2017 YZ250f and 2010 KTM 260sx blow every corner off the TM35, but they also cost 3x what The TM costs..if you want fun for $2000 brand new make no mistake the China bikes have reached a new level of quality..performance will need some mods, but it is a decent bike and only $2000
THIS is the question I was looking to be answered, and I like the comments like so many Japanese used bikes for cheap and you can sell them for what you paid is a good argument, but I like the little extra doodads Chinese bikes have like cool lights, start up lights, etc at least on CK Moto street bikes. Now, let's watch the video and see what the answer could be. EDIT : I always hear Marty McFly in my head talking to Doc, "The best stuff comes from Japan." Hmmm... time will tell.
Would you mind to test another much greater China bike "Kove 250mx"? Many professionals says that it's worth all of money and much cheaper than any brand made.

if your in you 40s like me and want to do some bush trails im sure it would be a great little chicken chaser lol, but im still buying that WR450F 2022 for my 40th in August lol, You guys should look into the Australian MX450 by BRAAAP, parts are cast in China but assembled in Australia by a family business and they offer lifetime warranty too, im pretty sure they are crf450x from 2007 ish era
La disparidad de poder es significativa. Evaluaría la YZ contra la nueva Kove MX250, donde el enfrentamiento sería más equilibrado. Excelente video, saludos desde Argentina.
Excellent video and low price option for the entry level learning rider !!! I have ridden the Kayo MX 250 and also the SSR 300 china built bikes and both were better than I was expecting but coming off my Beta RX 300 and Ktm 450 and 250 2 stroke was not impressed but for a third of the cost and not forgetting the china bikes are entry level they are very good and more important very fun !!!! 999 what a very fun and interesting video you have put together for us - LOVE IT !!!!! Sean on the slam bike - braaaaaaaaaaaaaaap
I'm really surprised that the SMX250 stood up to Shawn's thrashing. It may not be fast, but at least it's tough.
that's what we thought, it was wide open all day and had quite a few hours on it beforehand too
@@999lazer We have given our demo bikes a tough life! The one he was racing has previously completed approx. 25 hours of enduro racing, approx 15-20 hours of mx practise, and a couple of days of oval beach races!
@@999lazer get a koshine
@@slambikes Thats good to hear but on any brand new big brand bike that would be expected. Keep hammering them and the more they take the more impressive it gets.
Sooner or later they will fail like anything else but when they do it gives a decent gauge of how tough long term they are.
I have a feeling that looked after they may well last a very long time due to that under stressed design.
Throwing people like Sean on them and just saying "go for it" certainly doesn't hurt your rep though. Top job.
I had an IT465 back in the 80s. What a fun bike it was too on the road.
@@LTLT900 definitely a fun bike! I went from my late teens to my late thirties without doing any riding, and my IT465 and a KTM 525SX were the first bikes I bought when I decided to get back into bikes.
My first real ride, I dumped the IT because I was getting too cocky with my wheelies... it was still running, so I went to pick it up.
Sean brave man hitting buttercup on that bike. Surprised sean didnt snap it in half. The table tops at that track are long!
Sean gave it everything as usual...lol
This was fun too watch. Now buy a 2nd hand 4 stroke 250cc japanese mx for the same money as the 'slam' and switch riders 😊
You should test the Kove 250 Chinese bike. Great video!!!
I've been trying to get hold of a Kove since the start of the year, but I'm pretty sure they aren't imported into the UK...

Please can you shoot the GPX200 or 250 enduro against a KDX220 and/or one of the Orange two strokes?
The GPX 200 is a (KTM I think) frame with a 200cc Yamaha engine clone and the 250cc a KTM.
I can provide a tired KDX for the shootout!
( if I was racing I would buy a KTM , please not hate mail )
Think of the Chinese bike as a vintage car , it goes well , just got to keep a spanner to it.
My money is of the Japanese
It's where the smart money is! ;-D Thanks for watching as always buddy

Need this race but either a water cooled bike. Kove?
Now see what you can do to tune it and race it again. I.e change suspension. Carb and so on
Maybe we should do the upgrades and go to an actual race? Thanks for watching dude!
@@999lazer yeah I'd like to see that.
@999lazer that would be brilliant. Already looks like it certainly wouldn't come last so it would definitely be interesting
We have a full stock of parts available for next day delivery from our warehouse here in the UK 👍
@@999lazer A long term test would be great!

I think it's part to the fact that if you're buying a Chinese bike you can't afford to go to the track. Plus they aren't making it to 20 hrs without some bad issue. Speaking as a 17 year motorcycle mechanic.
Bro you live my dream
20 hours? I don’t know about that. Chinese bikes have come along way
20 hours? I don’t know about that. Chinese bikes have come along way
I think he's probably talking about the whole bike.
Max! We need to see you out on the track more man!
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment dude! :-) i think we could make some interesting videos with a GPX. I'll see if we can get our on hands on one for a day...
@@999lazer the 300 is a much better clone engine then the 250.
Its not about the bike but the skill of the rider
Is the Slam SMX250 engine 2 valve or 4 valve?
4 valve 👍
I'm not understanding putting a 125cc 2 stroke bike against a heavy ass 250cc 4 stroke?? Please someone explain this to me??
You have the coolest videos. With the widest range of shootouts.
Thanks dude :-D So glad you are enjoying the channel!

Fair play to shaun for hitting the jumps on it, got to have some confidence in the build quality of the wheels and frame 👏🏽 the Chineseum items have gotten alot better over the past few years, and what fun for £1800! It looks like a massive stomp 😂

I have 1970's bikes, curious if anything of Chinese bikes will be around in 40-50 years😅
Chep to buy, but cheap to ride, almost impossible to re-sell, and scaring in reliability. Does it sound a good deal?
Be interesting to see how well the Chinese bike holds up over a season of club racing. I think it’s plenty fast enough for a beginner.
agreed , that would be the real test for one
We've got a few SLAMS entered in the LEC Enduro Race series this season and they're holding up really well! We do appreciate that MX is another ball-game though!
Ive been riding for 25+yrs i recently rode a Chinese 2 stroke 300cc dirt bike n i was pretty amazed how good it ran n the power was decent
We were gutted about that missed shift! But very glad it wasn't a bike issue!
You would be amazed at how much of a Japanese or Austrian bike is made in China. There are a few KTMs now that are fully built (but not assembled) in China and I’d bet the same is true for most Japanese too.
Both KTM and Yamaha are partnered with Chinese manufacturer - CFMOTO
The fun on them is beating proper mix bikes
Haha I'm sure there's been many confused riders being passed by Chinese machines... Thanks for watching Lee
It has CFMOTO labelled on its tail. Is this one of theirs?
The UK importer for the Slam bike are the same guys that bring in the CFmoto quad bikes. Thanks for watching :-)
Not gonna lie the Chinese bike did a lot better then I expected, especially for being air cooled with such less suspension. You should do a video after upgrading the wheels and suspension and run it back. I bet those wheels weigh a ton and rob a ton of power.
Wondering why your track doesn't have a whoop section. I'm sure that would have majorly slowed down that Chinese trail bike.
Why not one of the koves or jtl or whatever 250 2 strokes
There’s a bunch of 250 and 300 two stroke China bikes in Australia. Thumpster imports one… I’m not sure how good they are though
First and foremost: We're talking 2-Stroke vs. 4-Stroke in doble CC displacement... so what's even the point? It's truly not 2:1 power-wise between the two. Gotta say the Chinese bike was VERY IMPRESSIVE!
Thanks! :)
I got a chinese serna rx250. I'm not motocross but I rip threw the mountains it great for Enduro
Stay on top of oil, spark plug, airfilter and live life. You only got 1. Have fun

How about the durability of these two bike please check maybe one of them worn out after the race.
My kid has a Gio. I have ordered so many parts. I order a part every time we take it out it seems. This weekend I almost threw it into the street with a Free sign. Stopped at Yamaha to check out the TTR-50.
Thanks
good race!
I Have to say , you're a better rider than I thought you were 👍
thanks, I need to spend more time on the bikes and less behind the camera :)
