    So the 2024 the vortex will not work because the wiring harness just changed from a three prong to a 4 prong so it's not a change to the ECU it's a change to the wiring harness Now I did call vortex and they said they're working on one that hopefully will come out next year

    100% different perspective on why the Raptor is the ultimate trail rig. Everyone knows it’ll rip but the way you broke it down to show it’s complacency for new riders also was on point. It can be a friendly foe in the right hands or a murderous beast with a Viking as the pilot!!!!

    Love the Raptor. I’m worried about the prices. They just keep going up. Then you add the dealer add ons. I think for prices now they need to do a major update. I’d love to see them increase the width to 50 inches wide and maybe a new plastic design. They also need to bring back the Raptor 250. Maybe make a slightly smaller Raptor 400cc adult model with a better price point.

    Looks like alot of fun. But for me, this is still a machine that excels when the conditions are ideal, and nothing else. To me, this is a machine that you'd ride close to home, on trails you know are good, but if I had something like this, I believe I would be afraid to explore and go to new places. Especially in western Canada where I may plan a long weekend riding trip in a totally new area a few hundred kilometers from home, will it rain or snow on my trip? Who knows. I'd prefer a machine that will get me through anything, instead of a machine that hopes it has a groomed trail to go down.
    I'd love to see this machine get rebranded as a yfz700r. And turn the Raptor name into some kind of trail monster that is still very sport focused. Like a Polaris Scrambler 1000 competitor. Maybe even bring back an older name for the new machine, Warrior, or Big Bear.

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  10 місяців тому

      That's why I tried to emphasis the need to know where you're going to ride.. There's certainly scenarios that would be too much (which is true to a lesser extent with a 4x4 too).. I like the idea about something sportier, Yamaha used to have it with the Wolverine, but they gave that name to a SXS now.

    How’s the learning curve and added entertainment value with one of these compared to a Recon for a casual weekend trail rider? Not exactly apples to apples I know, but their footprint and weight is similar. Of all my machines, I love my recons due to their size, maneuverability but the Raptor has always intrigued me.

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  10 місяців тому +1

      Such a good question! Honestly the learning curve would be slight because you're already use to shifting and a solid rear axle, so the clutch is really the only difference... And the Raptor has the most forgiving clutch I've ever used... Added entertainment is OFF THE FRIGGEN CHARTS, in my humble opinion.. Similar weight, 10x better suspension, and more than 2x the power, but still docile enough at low RPMs to capable of very relaxed pace..

    I started on a 83 ATC 70 when I was 11 and to big for it. I the winter of 86 I got the Trimoto 225 Dr and frostbit my wrists riding it 13 miles home at 20 below, I loved that 3 wheeler, had it for years. A friend had a 200X and a 350X and that 225 put him on his ass 3 times in one day and pulled away from his 200X with no problem, it topped out close to 60mph. Then I got a 85 200X and got another one a few years later and after both motors were shot they went to Honda and ordered the top of the line in performance parts for the build, got the Fasttrekkers on ITP aluminum rims, Supertrap pipe and the best of the rest of the 2, even sanded the scratches out and while I was working on the Alaska Highway on it's 50th the frame was stolen. I ended up giving the motor away 6 months later and it never was put into anything. FUCK!!
    Sorry, anyways got a Blaster, then a Warrior and had a lot of fun with them, almost got a Raptor in 02 then lots my mom and then a off duty cop in a full size Dodge hit me head on in my Ranger. Now I got a 16 year old loose M.O.M. hip.

    Thinking of getting my first ATV, enjoying your videos. I like the idea of a sport quad so I’m thinking either a raptor 700 or a can am renegade 650(comparable prices). My question is would a Raptor with a Rekluse auto clutch be a good compromise, I really hate shifting. Thanks!

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  10 місяців тому

      Well, I wouldn't call a Renegade a sport quad, it's really a 4x4 atv with different plastics. Not that the Renegade isn't good, it's just very different.. With a Rekluse, you still have to shift, you just don't have to use the clutch and it's not going to stall.. The Raptor is incredibly forgiving with the stock clutch which makes it very easy to shift.. A lot of guys, myself included find that a more enjoyable way to ride even though there is a little learning curve.. All that said, there's really no alternative to a pure sport quad if you want to do all the fun stuff that you can do on a 400lbs machine with a solid axle.. 4x4s are fun too, just in a different way.. My advice would be: learn to get used to and good at using a clutch. It opens more doors for motorcycles and dual sports if you have any interest there eventually.. But yes a Rekluse will make it easier even though it's not quite comparable to a CVT

    Never ridden a sportquad, or really been interested, I've always preferred 4x4. With that said, there needs to be more of these bikes on the market, I think yamaha is the only one making a sport quad still. We need more basic ass, barebones ATVs on the market, sport or not. Once they become available in my area, I'm gonna purchase a kingquad 400fsi, simply because it's the most simple stupid 4x4 atv on the market that essentially hasn't changed design in over 20 years. I look at this sportquad much the same way as the KQ400, no bullshit, no 3 mode dps, engine breaking or fuel mapping - it's just pure, as close to fully mechanical meyhen as you can get. Ha! Yes, they're breathing through a straw and epa restrictions are a bitch, but there's a lot of hidden power in the motor when it's uncorked... What should sound more egregious is a 1000cc twin only putting out 90hp when they weigh 850lbs. Truth is, getting caught up in displacement and HP in an offroad machine is as about as worthwhile as a dick measuring competition against a horse... You're not gonna win, and even if you do, you'll never get to use it. 🤣🤣🤣

      There used to be, and nobody bought them. Their lack of availability is due to excess supply and limited demand. Their profit wasn’t even covering cost of R&D let alone manufacturing (to include parts cost, millions a year in labor, tooling cost…) it just didn’t make sense to continue producing them. Solution: take good care of the older models that are still available on Craigslist and marketplace so we can enjoy them for a few more decades. Or just buy a SXS.

    I bought a 2007 SE new, and it has been, by far, my favorite ATV of all time...and I've had and ridden a lot of them. Did the big 3 to it and rode it as much as I could. It always put a smile on my face no matter the day. Most memorable was a group ride with 25 4x4 ATV's at the Hatfield-McCoy trails over a long weekend...me being the only 2wd sport quad in the bunch. Everyone rolled their eyes at the Raptor, thinking I was going to slow them down, when in fact, I was always right in the middle of the bunch (usually waiting on a broke down Polaris). Hillclimbs, mud, creeks, rocks...nothing could stop the Raptor. Sadly, my friend sold his 600 acres, and the forest service closed down the closest trail system, so that made the WV trails at 2+hrs away the closest place to ride. I had to send it down the road and opt for a street bike instead.

    Great video and agree with everything you stated. I just picked up a 24 700r about 3 months ago and have taken a Dune trip to Little Sahara OK. Raptors are amazing trail bikes but also perfect for the dunes as well. I'm in the middle of a Big 3 install right now and already planning my next Dune trip to hopefully St Anthony ID (and Yellowstone while I'm up there) come April/May next year. I really wish that Sport ATVs would make a come back as they truly are the purest form of "fun" off road riding on 4 wheels IMO. The other thing is alot of people don't have the skills to drive these machines and makes them very dangerous!!! people should buy a machine that fits their skill level no matter what it is. @DirtObseXXion  10 місяців тому

      Honestly brother, the price of a new one or the price from 2006 will have nothing to do with what that quad is worth now.. With a used quad, price is directly related to the kind of shape it's in.. For 3k, I'd want a machine that old to be in perfect running condition.. Not so much concerned about cosmetic stuff, but it shouldn't need anything before it's running well.. Let me know if you need any tips!

    • @DirtObseXXion
      @DirtObseXXion  10 місяців тому

      @@musicauthority674 If it's in great shape and obviously well maintained then 3k could be a very good price. Take a close look at the air filter, chain/sprockets, bearings (especially the carrier bearing). Look at the wiring to make sure nothing has been rigged weird or spliced. Set it upright and look at the frame, especially along the welds to check for cracks.. All those things can be indicators of problems..
      With wearable parts like the chain and sprockets, brakes and tires, bearings and ball joints.. It's up tp you what is acceptable. Just keep in mind, if needs quite a bit of little thing, they can add up quickly. I'd personally rather spend that money on something nicer as opposed to getting a quad up to par.. So the price is relative.. Great ridable shape, needs nothing, 3k is a good deal. Needs 1,000 worth of stuff right away, I'd probably keep looking.

    Oh, I love the raptor. The 2024 look great with the new colours. It,s a beautiful machine. It,s a shame not more manufacturers make them anymore.

    Another thing to mention is if you can license them for your street where you live they're a blast. See several every year riding around my town. I own one as well and prefer ditches and gravel roads. But every now and then I'll go and mess around on the street.

    I just bought the 2024 raptor 700 base model and I heard that the vortex will not plug into the 2023 or 24 that sucks

      Really? I wasn't aware of any changes to the ECU.. I'd recommend reaching out to Mr. Cuervo Racing to find out if that's true.. He's one of the best when it comes to tuning Raptors. I run the Dynojet Power Commander V and that's a really good alternative to a Vortex and much better than a Dobek style programmer..

    My dad bought a brand new Raptor this past March. I've ridden a Sportsman 850, Honda 350X, and my own Yamaha 225DX (similar to the Moto 4 mentioned in video). The Raptor is 100% the most fun ATV I've ever ridden. My dad and I usually ride on the trails and roads of Tug Hill here in NYS, and the raptor is awesome. It'll do 50 mph in the snap of a finger

    Man, Ive never owned or rode an ATV.. why am I here. I just started with a 212cc minibike that I absolutely love but, I might have to look into financing on a Raptor 700R.

      @@xClyptox We have done some best by budget videos and "best for you" stuff. I'd say before you buy, look at areas you will be able to ride and base your decision on the type of machine you can get the most use out of. For example, in the Southern States there tends more mud riding so a Sport Quad like a Raptor wouldn't be ideal. In terms of trail riding, Sport Quads are awesome for faster short trips, but they can't haul any gear or tow anything. As far as inexpensive stuff goes, CFMOTO has separated themselves from anything else in their price category. But with ATVs you get what you pay for, I'm partial to Yamaha. They're the only OEM still making Sport Quads. There's still quality stuff n the used market.

      @@xClyptox I bought a Yamaha 225DX 3 wheeler last summer for $600. Runs like a raped ape but definitely beat up. I still have it and rode it yesterday too. Warrior 350's are a decent bang for your buck. You can find decent cheap used ones and they have ok power, but they're not comparable to a Raptor 700
