I remember watching the hell out of this show when I was in kindergarten and first grade. I must have messed around and tried to watch it a few years ago to introduce it to my younger cousin and boy, I couldn't last 5 minutes.
I know it's just part of the job, and you aren't gonna go watch the whole series just for a single review to play into the algorithm, but it really does a disservice to the show watching a random episode. It's a serialized show, so story lines continue on episode to episode. Dinobot originally leaving the Predacons happened in the first 5 min of the first episode of the series, for example. It's like your first time watching a Breaking Bad episode is from season 5, and then just assuming character motivations and stuff. Like, I get it, but, yeah. A less than important example: Optimus looked at Rhinox like that when he asked about the explosion, because Optimus was IN that explosion, and died. Tarantulas on the act of eating things like a spider does: "It's the act I enjoy, more than the nourishment!"
The show would sometimes be deep. You’d have characters like Dinobot having an existential crisis about free will and fate while quoting Shakespeare. Even had an episode about whether it’s ethical to euthanize the mentally handicapped.
PS: Backstory to Dinobot in this episode that you reviewing, *spoiler alert: don't read* Dinobot, at the beginning of the show, switched side to the Maximals as he believed that Megatron betrayed him after crash-landed on a world that isn't Earth. Now jump into the second season, after the events of the alien race known as the Vok attempt to destroy the planet after Maxies and Predies disrupted their project, Dinobot discovered that the planet they have crash-landed on from the beginning is actually Earth after the fake moon was destroyed. The golden disk that Megatron stole show records of future and I believe that Dinobot must have seen the information from the disc that indicates he was going to die. Dinobot, couple of episode later, gets captured by the Predacons, which he defect back to it. Dinobot has a change of heart and return back to the Maximals. And from that point on his Maximal comrades never trust him again. Hence why Dinobot attempt to off himself before he decided to die a hero to save humanity in one of the best Transformer episode, ever.
Rattrap was definitely my favorite. Especially the episode where he got locked in the facility and had to dodge all of the defense mechanisms. #Classic
Yea!!! I was thinking that as well! I was also thinking of the channel then known as The Hub when they featured G1 Transformers, G.I. Joe, Jem, and TF Prime.
Lowkey i always rooted for Megatron just because they made him so flamboyant, i wanted Dinobot to convert all the Decepticons against a larger threat and explore a "new Cybertron"
The show is very well written just like Reboot Mainframe was cooking back in the day and while the visuals are dated the story and characters are evergreen IMO
Beast Wars is millions ofyears before G1, they find the ships where the Autobots and Decepticons landed. Season 2 ends with Megatron trying to blow up Prime's head. Season 3 is all about protecting them so Megatron doesn’t destroy time.
"This is a show set 300 years into the future on a primitive planet that isn't ours."- Oh if he only knew. Animation aside it's the best transformers series since the original because of the story throughout the seasons and circles back to the original series in the end. This and Reboot, another series from the same company, are a must watch
The question that has haunted my being has been answered. The future is not fixed. My choices are my own. And yet, how ironic, for I now find I have no choice at all. I am a warrior... let the battle be joined - Dinobot
Mainframe Entertainment literally pioneered the tech. Everything they did was basically from the ground up made by them, and so what you're looking at with Reboot and Beast Wars is literally the grandfather of modern CGI animation.
For ReBoot, Gavin Blair (one of the creators) has said that they were literally creating the tech as they were using it, cause they had nothing to go off of. They'd frequently be pulling over nighters days before the episode was supposed to air. Literally flying by the seat of their pants.
I ran home after school to watch this show in the 4-6pm block on YTV This animation production is by the same team that did Reboot That is a show to retro review
Reboot and Beast Wars was made by the same company: *Mainframe* . Even the music from both shows sound very similar to a point, like the Lethal Weapon and Die Hard (1-3) franchises
The scorpion (crab as you called it) and snake was part of the line where they had mixed animals in one bot. So you had like a hawk and a hammerhead and a tiger and eagle.
I think comparatively looking at the time, crew size and budget, Beast Wars looks better than Toy Story. The dog, humans and textures are garbage. The Beast Wars crew worked out of a HOTEL. They basically made it in a cave with a box of scraps and the fact it turned out so good should be applauded.
this was such a great episode, especially if you watched the series from the beginning. Dinobot using transmetal Ratrap like a go cart always makes me laugh
A few Fun Transformers Facts: In a review for the 1986 movie, the New Yorker notice a little girl holding a Transformers action figure. Proving girl have liked Transformers since G1. In the games War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron, you could drive up on an enemy, transform mid-drift, and fight. Just like the G1 intro. In Beast Wars, Rattrap, Waspinator, Dinobot, and Silverbolt are all voiced by the same actor Scott McNeil. In the third episode of the series, Tarantulas said, on the subject of drinking blood: "It is the act I enjoy, not the nourishment."
We had so many good cartoons to watch back in the 90s. Beast Wars, Street Sharks, Mutant League, The Mighty Ducks cartoon, Mummies Alive, King Arthur and The Knights of Justice, and many many more 📼📺👀🧎😌

I thought Dinobot joined the Maximals because he challenged Megatron for leadership and got his ass whipped then he tried to challenge lead of the maximals and basically just ended up staying
I loved beast wars Silverbolt became my favorite along with Dinobot. Although it’s sequel beast machines was not great and it ruined Silverbolt for me.
Beast Wars was set on Earth, but a prehistoric Earth via a time warp between the characters present. The characters are the decedents of the G1 series, though on the Earth before they were autonomous. Yet they don't reveal that all at once. You shouldn't have picked an episode from the second season to review given this, though maybe were unaware.
@Doubletoasted It is important to know that the golden disc is from a voyager satellite. And it is an artefact that contains knowledge related to the G1 Transformers. And it brings such a huge punch when it is reveiled. By the way, the Beast Wars Megatron is awesome because, sometimes, he roller skates in his headquarters😅.
I was in high school when this came out and I would watch this while getting ready for school. Loved this show. The 80's Transformers is still my favorite though.
Besides the DCAU shows, this one and Gargoyles give the 90s a good reputation, I highly recommend the rest of BW, it’s still among the best TF shows and modern TF media has always had some critical acclaim
I loved this show as a kid and watched it again just a few months back. Rattrap definitely had to be my favorite with his no filter and his relationship with Cheetor and him being wet behind the ears
As long as character/story is quality approved, I can look past any unusual animation. Otherwise you get stuff like Eight Crazy Nights. By the way, how many have noticed Rattrap's "change" near the end of the episode, during the cremation?
Sounds of Earth was the name printed on the Gold plated disk that was sent into Space on the Voyager Probe, the same probe that returns to Earth as V'Ger in Star Trek the Motion Picture.
We had a VHS of this show when i was a kid. But i think it only wqs 1 episode, idk. This show was amazing to me and my brother. I wish they continued it
Me, OG Gen 1 son! BW… Main story line, story line, story line. It’s deep. Perfect ep to review. Watched with my son on Saturday morns to keep the tradition goin and was blown away. Dope! Nuff said.
Beast Wars made me a Transformers fan. The show hasn't aged well visually, but it has some of the finest writing and storytelling in the entire franchise. I knew the original existed but I kinda skipped over it as a kid until I saw BW.
The first episode tells you that starts 300 years in the future... but the inciting event hit them with something that knocked them them to a planet full of energon. Energon is the fuel they use to survive... but the environment there is so saturated with it that in robot mode it starts damaging them. Which is why they use the Beast modes to shield themselves from the Energon. There's a BIG twist involving that disk and where they ended up... in the Past of humanity, and the Disk was the disk from the Voyager space craft which they're using.
Thats the Golden Record of the Sounds of Earth, its REAL, and its on the Voyager probe for whatever alien race finds it. It also has images of Earth. That is ancient Earth that they are on, and those were the first humans. This was a memorable episode, Dinobot was like Worf from Star Trek, and died with honor. This was a great series, superior imo to the original Transformers.
I guess Korey and them aren’t as nerdy as I thought being that they didn’t know that the golden disk were supposed to represent the ones that were sent out with the Voyager space probes by NASA in the 1970s
I very much loved these shows, and earlier cartoons. The concept of creating cartoons, even as an extended commercial has brought us some of our most memorable shows(and toys tbh). I wish toy companies still did this.
Scott McNeil is my favorite voice actor. Beast Wars is my favorite Transformers franchise. I enjoyed Transformers Rise of the Beasts, but I wished Cheetor and Rhinox had more screen time. I even wished Cheetor called Optimus Primal “Big Bot” like he did in the original series.😊🤓👊🏾
Beast Wars is the only transformers content I've ever actually watched lol. I remember loving it, but some reason I don't remember it as well as I do x-men and batmans tas even though I was much younger when those came out. I wonder why.
Terrasaur - the one that was the red Pteranodon - was the Starscream type as he was always thinking of betraying Megatron. Fun fact: Starscream actually shows up in Beast Wars for an episode. He's famous by then. It's also revealed that Starscream is a mutant - his "spark" is immortal and can't be destroyed. (Technically no sparks can be destroyed but they all return to Cybertron or something when they die but Starscream's just floats through space forever looking for bodies to invade). BUT interestingly enough, Tarantulus was NOT a Predacon. Or at least, he was NEVER loyal to Megatron. He was loyal to another species of Cybertronian. I'm going all from memory here so I haven't looked it up but that was the deal with the spider-dude. He was more of the immoral mad-scientist character, so him eating animals was in character because as you guys pointed out correctly - he's a sadist
Beast Wars was my jam as a kid. While the show was called Beasties in Canada, the violence was censored in America. It's a little funny that back then networks from the states thought Canadian made shows where too dark. I jokingly say that while the American children get the comfy beds, the Canadian children have to sleep in iron maidens.

The episode when Dinobot had his final fight against the Predacons was my favorite. He had a warriors death.
The show would sometimes be deep. You’d have characters like Dinobot having an existential crisis about free will and fate while quoting Shakespeare. Even had an episode about whether it’s ethical to euthanize the mentally handicapped.
Have you seen the Netflix transformers show?
@@KOS_Eonflash yeah it’s pretty good. A bit over loading with so many characters. Should’ve had more than 6 episodes a season.
"I... am... hurt."
The episode with the “mentally handicapped” transformer hits in so many levels
Such an amazing series, only hampered by its ancient look. Makes me miss being a child though. :,)
PS: Backstory to Dinobot in this episode that you reviewing, *spoiler alert: don't read*
Dinobot, at the beginning of the show, switched side to the Maximals as he believed that Megatron betrayed him after crash-landed on a world that isn't Earth.
#Classic
14:55 Kory is talking about Pluto TV. They show every Transformers show 24/7. For me they show Beast Wars and Machines in the morning
Didn't know that. Thanks for the info
He also had to deal with a team of backstabbers and/or complete idiots. But with everything he had going on, he still got very close to his goal.
The funny thing is that Ratrap and Dinobot are voiced by the same voice actor. He voices Silverbolt and Waspinator too
Scott McNeill? I remember he also portrays Duo Maxwell in Gundam Wing. Crazy how he always voices the cool characters.
Scott McNeil was like the Jeffrey Combs and David Graham of Beast Wars.
I’m really digging these retro toon reviews
I miss Scott McNeil being in every show. I wonder what he's been up to these days.
Same here. Miss all the Ocean Group
He's still busy. Just in different productions. He was also the villain in that live action Woody Woodpecker movie.
"This is a show set 300 years into the future on a primitive planet that isn't ours."- Oh if he only knew. Animation aside it's the best transformers series since the original because of the story throughout the seasons and circles back to the original series in the end. This and Reboot, another series from the same company, are a must watch
Beast Wars, Reboot, and Shadow Raiders were three of my fave shows back in the day 😁
Wish they release the Shadow Raiders series on DVD
All done by the same studio
@@shaw8443do you remember a show called Mummies Alive
@@SSGKoop yes I do
That scene with the snake pays off at the end of beast wars. The ape dudes learn to make tools and kill the snake before it can kill them again.
Dinobot does come back, but as his own worst nightmare: Megatron's slave and a zombie. Sortof
I ran home after school to watch this show in the 4-6pm block on YTV
This animation production is by the same team that did Reboot
That is a show to retro review
The fact that they left out Rattrap and Dinobot from the movie is a travesty.
And no Predacons either! That's like having Peanut butter but no jelly!
Reboot and Beast Wars was made by the same company: *Mainframe* . Even the music from both shows sound very similar to a point, like the Lethal Weapon and Die Hard (1-3) franchises
I remember watching this when i was a kid
OG transformers gives 90's X-Men energy in regards to illustration, can never be duplicated
16:33 translation:
green faced robot "Rhinox" : Remember that thing that blew you the hell up?
Optimus: 😐
Rhinox: my bad..
this was such a great episode, especially if you watched the series from the beginning. Dinobot using transmetal Ratrap like a go cart always makes me laugh
Never knew it was made in Canada, so proud 🇨🇦 loved me some Beasties as a young 90’s boy
Beast Wars, Street Sharks, Mutant League, The Mighty Ducks cartoon, Mummies Alive, King Arthur and The Knights of Justice, and many many more 📼📺👀🧎😌
Mummies Alive! That takes me back
This was kinda like…Baby’s First Long-form Drama, looking back on it! Also felt nice to segue from this into things like…Bionicle.😊
First lol. Y'alls are amazing btw! Thanks for the incredible content - always! Love from Zimbabwe (it was called "Beast Machine Transformers" back home)
I thought Dinobot joined the Maximals because he challenged Megatron for leadership and got his ass whipped then he tried to challenge lead of the maximals and basically just ended up staying
One of the best Transformers series to date in my opinion
The spider character was the most evil. It is also hinted that he descended from Unicron instead of the Decepticons.
Tarantulas, the tripredacus council, secret police
I was in high school when this came out and I would watch this while getting ready for school. Loved this show. The 80's Transformers is still my favorite though.
Besides the DCAU shows, this one and Gargoyles give the 90s a good reputation, I highly recommend the rest of BW, it’s still among the best TF shows and modern TF media has always had some critical acclaim
Man this brings back memories dinobot was my favorite character
One of my favorite shows when I was a kid.
I loved this show as a kid and watched it again just a few months back. Rattrap definitely had to be my favorite with his no filter and his relationship with Cheetor and him being wet behind the ears
@MR_DOUBLE_TOASTED. alrighty
Y’all are not doing this episode, and especially the show as a whole, justice. There’s a lot more going on here than you both realize.
This is my favorite version of Tranfrormers
My introduction into Transformers. Nostalgia
As long as character/story is quality approved, I can look past any unusual animation. Otherwise you get stuff like Eight Crazy Nights.
By the way, how many have noticed Rattrap's "change" near the end of the episode, during the cremation?
Whatever issues with animation were overcome by damn good writing.
I wish they continued it
Beast Wars was the first place I heard Shakespeare as a little kid
Me, OG Gen 1 son!
BW… Main story line, story line, story line. It’s deep. Perfect ep to review. Watched with my son on Saturday morns to keep the tradition goin and was blown away. Dope! Nuff said.
Beast Wars made me a Transformers fan. The show hasn't aged well visually, but it has some of the finest writing and storytelling in the entire franchise.
I knew the original existed but I kinda skipped over it as a kid until I saw BW.
Oh btw, if you have a Roku TV, there is a Transformers channel that 24/7 cycles through every Transformers TV series each hour.
I remember watching beast wars when I was a kid
The first episode tells you that starts 300 years in the future... but the inciting event hit them with something that knocked them them to a planet full of energon. Energon is the fuel they use to survive... but the environment there is so saturated with it that in robot mode it starts damaging them. Which is why they use the Beast modes to shield themselves from the Energon.
There's a BIG twist involving that disk and where they ended up... in the Past of humanity, and the Disk was the disk from the Voyager space craft which they're using.
Literally for Beast Wars, that's the episode I always come back to
Thats the Golden Record of the Sounds of Earth, its REAL, and its on the Voyager probe for whatever alien race finds it.
11:11 🤣 😅Yo! They probably really let loose a snake in the booth. That was a man caught off guard!
Dinobot did come back... and then died again.
I loved this show as a kid and yea it doesn’t hold up technically, but overall that story was good and they even killed characters
I loved this fuckin show as a kid. Looking back and seeing how much depth these characters actually had and the issues they were grappling with is fuckin awesome.
Between this, Reboot, and the DK show, i use to think the 3d was badass 😂
I was just thinking they should talk about an episode of Reboot
Man this show takes me back to the days they aired. Sadly, I never got to watch every episode since at one point they aired the show on Ch. 11 in NYC at 6:30am. But I loved Dinobot, Cheetor, and Depth Charge.
I even owned Polar Claw which I don’t think he appeared on the show.
