This was my first introduction to the High Evolutionary and his Counter Earthlings. Hated that they scrapped the idea of this being a continuation to the 1994 series. It is cool that the voice actor for Peter went on to voice him in the PS1 and 64 game
Spider-Man Unlimited, the middle child of Spider-Man cartoons. Also fun fact, it’s NOT a continuation to Spider-Man TAS. They tried to trick you into thinking it could be a continuation because they played the theme song from Spider-Man TAS, but they didn’t have permission to use that at all.
Fun fact Spider-Man unlimited was originally supposed to be about Spider-Man 2099 but then Batman Beyond came out so they scrapped it and reused a lot of the ideas for what eventually became unlimited
I always thought Venom and Carnage evolved. They still need a host but can also alter their physiology. In one episode Eddie is separated from Venom, and he’s been bonded for so long that he’ll start to die without it.
Even in the usual stuff, if you really scrutinize it instead of taking it for granted, the Symbiotes have always had the ability to alter the anatomy of their host's jaw.
I mean, this *_IS_* something Dylan Brock, 13 year old son of Eddie Brock, Maria, and the Venom Symbiote themself, is exploring in the current run of comics being written by Al Ewing and Ram V. right now. His dad is too, but he lost his human body so it’s not exactly the same thing. Eddie’s sort of going through what DC’s The Swamp Thing started to do with his body once he learned he was never Alec Holland and stopped worrying about not always looking human or worrying about the needs and limitations of the human body.
Well it was marvels attempt to use the symbiote as a metaphor for drugs/heroin hence the name “venom” like a poison. Which if you are talking about changing physiology, opiates literally start changing your chemical makeup which make you physically sick when you withdraw. We see this on the “separation anxiety “ storyline of Spider-Man
Spider-Man Unlimited could have been interesting, but with the corner the writters where pushed into made it not easy. The nano tech suite tho is 90s cool.
The unlimited spider man was underrated, but has a really good story with he goes a different dimension. The show has 13 episodes has a cliffhanger episode and they cancel the series has low rating.
The show did have interesting characters. One character I remember was call Git, the mummy man. He’s one of rebels and similar to Rocket. He was experimented on as a kid by Sir Ram. Turned into a mutate. Basically nothing more than sentient bandages. With eyes and hair for some reason. Also liked the design of counter-earth’s Green Goblin.
I thought this cartoon was suppose to be set in the future with Miguel. Missed the beginning openning when it first came out on tv. Only flipped by when it was on. Now this explains alot that was misguided to me.😄
This introduction on Earth was always my favorite part of this series. I never enjoyed things after he went to Counter-Earth. I could have tolerated that for a arc but not a full season. This series always felt like a missed opportunity to me. I love the nano tech suit though. The dark look of the show always reminded me of the heavy shaded animation style we saw a lot in the 90s with stuff like Spawn, GI Joe Extreme, the Do The Evolution video, etc.
They were actually making the Spider-Man 2099 show That's why Peter Parker look a little different but I guess they thought that wouldn't be as popular so they try to keep it back to Peter Parker a little bit
This was one of the original ideas for this series but that was shot down. It was also meant to be a stylistic low budget animated series that’s a retelling of the first few Spider-Man comics from the 60’s, that idea was also cancelled.
41:38 also in episode 2 venom was wrapping spidey up and trying to become one with him, so peter was probably fully covered in that symbiotic sp*rm and really tried to resist the mind control
Thays dope that this episode introduced the High Evolutionistary in animated media. For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3, I sould say he was an efficiently written villian corroborated by such an extraordinary performance.
They actually made Samuel Jackson Fury the son of old Nick Fury in the comics. Which actually makes sense since OG Nick Fury's been around since WW2. My secret dream is a "Fury & Son" story where Samuel L. Jackson has to go on a road trip with this crazy veteran who comes to him with one last secret mission, and they bond and work out their differences n shit. Maybe we can see Fury's mama.
Wasn't a strong series, but I did like the setting. With enough development there could have been a lot of cool alternate heroes and villains. I personally would have liked a couple more rising superheroes coming against the High Evolutionary, like a feline Black Cat or a bat Daredevil.
The show may not be better than the 94 series, but it’s so cool. The suit in this show is such a perfect mix of the iron spider and Spider-Man 2099 suit. Can’t wait if the mcu gives a chance where Reed Richards gives a new upgrade suit for Spider-Man that is similar from the show for either Kang Dynasty or Secret wars.
Haven't gotten to the end of the video yet but supposedly this was originally going to be a 2099 cartoon but they were made to create Unlimited instead.

Until the public got wind of the potential switch, had a fit, and then the editors panicked and back-pedalled on the whole thing (and nuked poor Ben in the process).
