As much as I love the rooftop scene between the two of them, the graveyard scene is the pinnacle of this season.
Any scene with The Punisher and Daredevil is TOP
Frank isn't just physically strong, he's mentally stronger than anyone. He has a ridiculously high pain tolerance, and is immune to mind control
Yeah. I've long thought that his immunity to pain and mind control is due to his severe brain damage.
Steve and Mathew are tough as hell, but Frank is actually built different.
He was tough before he was a marine, being a marine made him tougher and then his tragic experience kind of broke him and now he’s an absolute beast.
This show is really perfectly casted. Matt, Foggy, Karen, Ben, Wilson, Frank, Elektra. All of them great.
and a certain antagonist in season 3.
@@aspenture1087 A certain FBI agent and sister too
Frank's graveyard monolog should have earned him an Emmy nomination at the least
Agreed!
Yup !! Bernthal is absolutely phenomenal as Frank Castle aka The Punisher. I loved the character before Bernthal but after Bernthal The Punisher has become one of my favorite characters ever. He is right there with Snake Plissken from Escape from New York and L.A. and Beta from TWD those are probably my 3 favorite characters of all time. I know there are definitely some more but that's what I have right now.
This Punisher character has one of the best put to TV monologues ever written, in this season
Facts!
His speech during the trial might've been the one of the best fictional character speeches ever.
I've recited it dramatically, several times. And it never fails to bring real tears to my eyes. It's always the same time, too.
"I said no... Daddy's tired, see."
@@MC-zr6gc he would've never done that in the comics. That shit was cringy.
@@ultrainferno. bro that shit was the opposite of cringy that mf stood on business
A lot of people did get the sense that Foggy & Karen were going to get together in S1, but Karen is one of Matt's main love interests in the comics, but taking down Fisk became priority #1, and Marci came back into Foggy's life.
doesn't have to follow the comics exactly, i mean thank god we never got a heroine/pornography arc where she sells matts idenity or a mysterio/hiv/anticrist arc. i agree with vkunia, the shows feels organic in all the trio scenes that aren't forcing a romantic connection, and im glad they never continued either for too long.
@@jovanleonardi1574 That was one of the things that Deborah Ann Woll pushed/insisted be changed when she took the part. She wanted Karen to have a different story.
In defense of those who thought that, our dear Mrs. Cardenas was pushing it, and Foggy was being a friend indeed to a friend in need. But, underneath that situation, Karen was always kinda crushing on Matt.
The whole "touch my face" scene wasn't Karen being romantic with Foggy. It was her using Foggy as a substitute so she could imagine it was Matt's hands on her face (which is, admittedly, still kinda messed up). I don't think a lot of people had figured out how sneaky the show was about relationships quite yet.
They just saw a scene that was coded as romantic between its participants and missed that Karen's mind and heart were elsewhere.
@@chrisd7047 to be fair, the way they did introduce some of that stuff into Karen's story (without spoiling it, of course) was done really well for the amount of changes they did, it still feels like they acknowledge some of the comic book routes while allowing Deborah Ann Woll to not portray Karen at her absolute lowest. Así the character already was demanding, going full Frank Miller would be too much, at least in this instance.
@@ivanagustinortiz5237 Agreed.
That monologue by Frank at the end of episode 4 was great. You find out what broke Frank Castle and created the Punisher, but also the way it was written and how Bernthal delivered it was just gut wrenching and perfect at the same time.
And all it took was one bad day...
the long metal legs you were referring to are a shout out to daredevils first villain in the comics by the name of stilt- man. also Melvin Potter himself is loosely based on another villain " gladiator " - he was equipped with saw blades which you see around his shop
I've always been a fan of Punisher. He embodies the phrase doing the wrong things for right reasons.
"We get dirty, the world stays clean. That's the job."
This season was the crown jewel of everything Netflix and Marvel did together if you ask me! Glad you are experiencing it!
Season 2 of Daredevil was definitely the best season of Daredevil and it's because of 3 characters The Punisher, Elecktra and Karen. Just my opinion tho .
Really excited. Elektra is such an amazing character. Daredevil & Elektra's relationship is similar to Batman & Catwoman, only in all honesty Elektra is a much better character than Catwoman and has a more interesting dynamic with Daredevil. Also Karen has always been a Daredevil love interest in the comics as well.
That's kind of denigrating to Catwoman.
_Arguably_ Daredevil and Elektra's relationship is a bit more like Batman and Talia's.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8psnot even arguably, original commenter is stupid af
? Do u need brain cells?
More Like Batman And Talia
"He added a side. It's a triangle now" made me laugh way more than it probably should have
Vicky: "I don't see the chemistry with Matt and Karen, it just seems off"
Literally the episode before: "Aww, ok they're cute, aww omg awww" 🤣
To be fair Karen was making comments on how she was attracted and interest in Matt since S1, like when Mrs. Cardenas mentioned the “handsome lawyer” and Karen instantly said Matt. So it didn’t come out of nowhere, plus Foggy pretty much started hooking up with Marci so I don’t see Karen & Foggy making any sense. Also Elektra is in no way shape or form good for Matt, she brings out the absolute worst in him and they are super toxic.
In the comics Karen Paige was absolutely a love interest for Matt Murdock. Elektra Natchios as well. So Karen falling for Matt was not a surprise
. 😊
Elodie as Elektra is just a damn drug that I can't get enough of. Her and Matt just have a very toxic relationship but somehow you root for them
Yes she is amazing!!
She is so toxic for him.
@@robertorodriguez749 Yeah. But it is How it is
@@nightgoblin29I wish we can see her again.😔
If you're rooting for them, you might have some stuff to deal with in your own head.
The Punisher Series goes into Frank’s backstory more. I highly recommend it!
@20:23-@22:15 This is when I really started to empathize with Frank. I had to words to describe how I felt when I watched this episode for the first time.
"I think I'm done Red I think I'm done"
Those long metal pants Melvin made were worn by Turk, who became Stiltman in the Daredevil comics. Melvin became The Gladiator, and Owsley's son, The Owl. Whether or not they'll continue on this path in the Disney + Daredevil remains to be seen.
Seeing Matt Murdock, not Daredevil, be genuinely happy, probably for the first time in a while at the end of 2x04, just for a second before Elektra pops up kinda breaks my heart. And I think Foggy notices it too, which is why he doesn't say anything whenever Matt & Karen openly flirt at the office.
Karen and Elekra both represent different sides of Matt and offer something to his life. Matt being conflicted with both women is him being conflicted between his duel identies.
Karen represents Matt Murdock the kind, noble and honourable lawyer and offers him a nice quiet life. Elektra represents the daredevil side (his true self) unhinged, merciless and masochistic. Elektra offers him an amazing exciting life of adventure as both a crime fighting partner and lover. Obviously i prefer Elektra .
26:20 The same way Matt couldn’t detect Nobu was in the warehouse until Nobu wanted to let know DD he was there. Nobu stoped his heartbeat, Elektra did the same.
10/10
Absolutely Stunning
This 2x04 episode nails every single aspect of both the Punisher's and Daredevil's characters and takes the best from their relationship that has been going for 40 years in the comics to make something that is incredible to witness.
The episode keeps the pacing of the season moving as smoothly as ever, it feels like the second act of a really good movie. It holds no punches to the viewer, with its brutal moments that are presented both visually and audibly.
The moral dilemma you're facing on this season, and this episode in particular is the age-old matter of "to kill or not to kill". The show does a great job of not to shoving any point of view down your throat, and also of making a trope that's been done to death feel quite fresh. Who you sympathize with, who you root for? That's up to you. The Punisher is ruthless in his pursuit for justice, he's a character that is very easy to relate to due to the tragedies he's been through, and though his actions undoubtedly brings results, they're pretty tough to watch. He isn't a caricature here. And incredibly, neither is Daredevil. Though his way of working isn't as harsh as Punisher's, it's just as flawed.
One particular thing about this episode is the path that it takes the Punisher. There is one scene, in a graveyard, that truly showcases his acting abilities. The man is able to take a comic book anti-hero that already had 3 different movie adaptations and hundreds of different takes on his on the comics and turn it into something of his own. The character of Frank Castle has never been explored like this. The sheer emotion that flows throughout the scene just couldn't be done by anyone else.
All in all, this is the best work of superhero TV that I have witnessed yet. It makes me excited for the future.
Well said.
Jon Berenthal's character of Shane in TWD was an excellent audition for The Punisher.
That's the ring his father trained in. Pretty sure the gym isn't set up for an audience.
As for if anyone shows up, only people likely to show up at that hour would be the owner of the gym, who is probably going to cut Mattie some slack. "Your dad trained here, you spent a lot of time here, you're getting lucky with a hot chick... Pay for the glass and we're square. You need a key, in case this comes up again?"
Deborah Ann Woll (Karen) is 5' 8 3/4" [U ask, I answer]
1:04:40-1:04:50 the blind card played so well. "Did I get any on you?" The expression was clear "What are you f-ing blind?" he wanted to say, then the realization dawned.
I don’t understand how the Karen and Matt ship was forced. They’ve literally built that from season 1 with Karen asking a lot of questions about Matt especially with that final moment between them in season 1 finale where they really focus on Karen in slow motion falling for Matt.
I think that's the problem there for some people. It was one-sided. We know that Karen obviously likes Matt, but we haven't really seen that from Matt's side until recently. I'm okay with the pairing and the actors have great chemistry, but even I thought it was a bit out of nowhere (on Matt reciprocating the feelings).
I've said it quite a few times, but I do prefer Matt & Karen over Matt & Elektra. I think Elektra is a better fit for Daredevil, the vigilante, but Karen is a better fit for Matt Murdock, the person. And Daredevil has his no-kill rule because of Matt's faith and morality.
I actually really like Matt and Karen not only because she was Matt's original love interest in the comics but also because I also because I really like both actors
*That* scene set up the punisher show so perfectly
The "Long, metal pants" are a call back to an early (1963) Daredevil villian from the comics: Stilt-Man! An Easter egg. Nice catch!
Interestingly, Stilt-Man, for as silly as he was, would occasionally pop up throughout the comics run through to the relatively present (I haven't read the comics in some time) day. I do recall Turk taking a turn in the Stilt-Man suit at some time, too, being the complete mess that he usually was.
“See I feel like this is a good couple, this is a power couple right here…..
..Never mind she’s crazy”
😂
That graveyard monologue was amazing.
Frank is the toughest character I’ve ever seen.
Matt didn’t notice Elektra in his place because he was vibing too much. He was very distracted, and she was silent.
Jessica doesn’t get involved in stuff often because she generally tries to not be a hero, she just can’t help herself sometimes when she faced with the opportunity to help.
"But Marge, that little guy in the back hasn't done anything yet! Look at him! He's going to do something, and you know it's going to be good..."
Vicky: I like Elektra & Matt together. They're a power couple.
*(Vicky then sees Elektra get off on Matt nearly beating Roscoe to death and break up with him just because he wouldn't finish the job)*
Vicky: Perhaps I spoke too soon.
Jon does a great, GREAT job as the Punisher.. Wish there were more seasons of his show..
The long metal pants are a reference to Daredevil villain Stiltman from the 60s. Probably one of the weirdest smalltime villains in Marvel history along with Big Wheel as his only gimmick is his pants can turn into stilts and make him really tall. I did not notice that easter egg until you pointed them out.
Actually Karen was never into Foggy. Remember when mrs cardena talked about the handsome one and she immediately asked "Matt?" But mrs cardena was talking about Foggy
16:47 In one Punisher comic Frank had a pet dog called Max who was kidnapped and forced to fight in a dogfighting ring. Frank freed him and set him on them.
Frank in the GY has to be one of the best dialogues in all of TV.
Punisher is so damn good this season and funny thing Karen and Matt were together in the comics and Elecktra is also another love interest.
Awe man when punisher is talking about getting home and feeling so tired love that scene!
I'm glad you're enjoying this roller-coaster season. Just wait until Elektra and Frank hook up.
It’s a visual masterpiece too that deserves a proper experience, I hope you’re watching on a TV and not a monitor! Love daredevil for sure it’s a great one
Every time I watch the graveyard scene from episode 4, I breakdown in tears! Jon Burnthal's portrayal of the Punisher is absolutely iconic! He does such an amazing job of showing how broken and shattered Frank Castle is after all the suffering he has been through.
Karen in the comics is a Daredevil love interest, but they put her through so much shit, Kevin Smith eventually killed her off and everyone considered it a mercy.
Elektra is his on again-off again girlfriend and an anti-hero sidekick, like Bucky or Catwoman. They’re generally considered the OTP.
37:02 "[I] wonder how tall Karen is." The actress, Deborah Ann Woll, is 5'10" -- and before you ask, so is the actor who portrays Matt Murdock. Foggy's actor is just an inch shorter at 5'9".
Didn't they learn from John Wick, you don't mess with a highly trained killing machine's dog.
Daredevil is so incredible and I'm so excited to watch your reaction to how it progresses. I'm equally as excited to see your reaction to The Punisher once you're done.
So just when things were going well, enter the Ex.
The devil on the shoulder, the one slowly trying to push Matt over that line, Elektra Natchios is a woman who seems to have a unique hold on Matt as much as he tries to relent from her
I really love Elektra in this show, I wish her and the Punisher stuff could of be more integrated well because they definitely feel like two different plot lines going on at the same time
Yeah I wanted to see them interact more in the show
@@lukefury8162 Me too
It is the most obvious thing to understand that locking The Punisher into a prison isn't a threat to The Punisher. It's a threat to the prisoners. He isn't locked in with them they are locked in with him. 💀
Matt could detect the documents from smelling the paper and ink most likely.
I highly recommend u watch the Punisher series after this its amazing
Matt going with Elektra just as he, Foggy & Karen are about to work on Castle’s case looks REALLY bad, especially because Matt convinced Foggy to take the case, and Foggy, to protect Matt’s identity, told Karen he has a drinking problem.
"you want to come with us, or you want to make a mess?"
Me: oh no.....
------------------
so one thing to know / remember about punisher, he's fueled by rage. you piss frank off and one way or another, a lot of people are going to die.
electra: she's a top tier assassin / ninja, with little to no equal, in marvel. she and matt are the yin to the other's yang. mess with one and you've earned yourself a deathwish with the other- no matter the distance and circumstance...
it makes a lot of sense why Matt would be into Karen, but don't feel bad for not wanting them together - their relationship is certainly problematic for a lot of reasons
the same could be said about his relationship with Elektra who is amazing for him in so many ways if only she weren't bloodthirsty lol
Penny and Dime is easily my favorite Daredevil episode
I love one of the main themes is Matt being torn between both worlds. Elektra is such a big part of that.
In the comics Karen was a girlfriend of Matts for a long time, the love of his life (Deborah Ann Woll is 5'10"). Elektra is an assassin based loosely an Electra Complex (she really really loved her father, just not in a weird way, who was a criminal boss of sorts, she is a great character). She and Matt/Daredevil dated/had an affair for many issues. Fun Fact: In the comics Daredevil/Matt also dated Black Widow/Natasha for a while. The team up was so successful that the 'Daredevil' title was almost renamed to 'Daredevil and Black Widow.'
Those long metal pants you noticed in the background are a reference to Stilt Man :)
There is an article online that discusses Matt Murdock's "15 best girlfriends," if that gives any indication of how much Matt gets around. Wolverine once called him "the biggest himbo" to ever wear spandex. He even dated Natasha Romanov briefly. I say all that to give context to this: in the comics, Karen Page was the love of Matt's life.
Also, Elodie Yung is actually a black belt.
Matt didnt see through the cabinet. He heard the electronics.
6:51, Yes they did.-- The 2 actors before Jon just couldn't bring his essence to the screen. Nice seeing you enjoying this series so much..The stories for season 2 were scripts from the Graphic Novels of Frank MIller "Sin City," "300", etc. His 2-year run on Daredevil reviltalized a character slipping in sales and under consideration of cancellation. Using this dark approach, (Stan Lee's idea to get him), it became a Marvel top-seller and won the Eisner award. It's the only work Miller did for Marvel...He had bigger fish coming his way!
The actor playing the red-headed Irish villain, Finn, is Tony Curran. He's a really great actor and has been in many great roles. In case you ever have any interest in trying out Doctor Who, he's in one of the absolute best episodes ever made: Season 5, episode 10 "Vincent and the Doctor" in which Tony Curran brilliantly plays Vincent Van Gogh. I highly recommend it, if not for your channel, than just for your own interest and enjoyment. The episode also features Karan Gillan who plays Nebula in the MCU movies.
Local New York man LITERALLY TOO ANGRY TO DIE
Im so glad I've got this show's DVDs.
23:19, the story varies sometimes. Sometimes it's a hit, other times a crossfire. Depends what era and who's writing it really. In the Punisher 2004 movie with Thomas Jane in the role, I remember it being a hit, I think. It's been a long time since I've watched it.
Also, "Roxxon", just remember that company name
The "long metal pants" in the background are an Easter egg to the D-list villain from the comics known as Stilt-Man.
4:44 It's like they say when someone leaves the front door open. "Were you born in a field?"
The sheep cannot tell the difference between the wolves and the sheep-dogs.
They only see the teeth.
The long metal legs in the room of the guy that makes daredevils suit, are an easter egg, they belong to Stiltman.
Elektra is VERY tied to Matt’s story. Won’t spoil anything but you’re probably looking at the one woman that could take Black Widow or the Dora Milaje in a straight up fight.
Some sources say Deborah Ann Woll is 5'10', but other sources say more like 5' 7". Charlie Cox is reportedly 5' 10".
V- “they cast the punisher perfectly”
Me- I agree but has your young self seen Thomas Janes punisher?
Those metal legs in the super-shop are for the supervillian Stilt Man, from the comics.
It's an Easter Egg
Melvin's under tunic is designed like the Gladiator costume.
Matt and Karen in the show always felt forced. She's his Mary Jane in the comics so I guess the writers felt they had to push it.
More like his Pepper Potts.
Elektra is Matt's heroin.
Under no circumstances should he ever get anywhere near her, but he can't stay away.
"The Incident"...
I forgot how Daredevil used to reference the New York invasion from first Avengers movie.
For some reason that's all the Chitauri invasion ever gets called in the Netflix shows.
Elektra is one of Matt's classic love interests from the comics and she was even indirectly mentioned back in Season 1. During the flashback to Matt and Foggy's college graduation days Foggy pokes fun at Matt for taking Greek lessons to impress some girl he likes, and Elektra is Greek.
Yeah... In the comics, Matt collects many love interests; all of them gorgeous, dangerous, morally gray, and overflowing with issues and baggage. He just can't do "healthy relationships".
Vincent Van Gogh getting wild in NYC.
Frank Castle only has one true super power, he has a super human tolerance of pain, this is listed in his SHIELD file, that makes him a super human, not even Steve Rogers is super human (he's just max human).
One batch, two batch. Penny and dime.
Watch 'The Defenders' before you watch Daredevil Season 3, or else the beginning of S3 will make no sense whatsoever...
Also:
'Where did you get that?'
"Don't worry about it."
'Your home.'
"(sharp intake of breath)"
Legit LOOOOOOOL😂
foggy is the bestest friend anyone could ask for
"How has Karen not been killed yet?". Her first appearance is at an attempt to murder/imprison her, but honestly i just think she gets lucky at this point
I’m still holding out for them to make a movie out of Red Hulk’s Thunderbolts. A team featuring all of Marvel’s biggest antiheroes (Punisher, Deadpool, Venom, Ghost Rider, Red Hulk, & Elektra)
I love how this series is straight up an accurate representation of how sociopathy can be expressed completely different depending on the moral codes of each person.
Because Matt,Electra,Frank and Fisk are all the same but coming from different places.
Also Jessica Jones.
Frank doesn't fit sociopath as I understand it.
What makes you believe he's not?
@@S.m1115 It's not a matter of belief, it's a matter of what the profile is and as I understand it Frank simply doesn't fit.

You probably are confusing sociopath and psychopath as many do.
Psychopaths are born like that, their brains work different and they're unable to feel love, fear etc.
Sociopaths are molded by traumatic events and neurological damage.
They do feel and a lot, that much they numb themselves from 99% of things.
The 1% that's able to make Frank emotional is his family.
For the rest,he doesn't care.
He doesn't care about money, comfort, society...
He has lost the only thing that was grounding him,now he only has his moral,a impulsive temper and a serious lack of remorse towards others so as even himself.
Also because sociopaths has lived and felt as any average person, they're able to feel empathy (they only need to work really hard to it)
But yeah,Frank Castle, Matthew Murdock, Jessica Jones, Wilson Fisk,Electra Nachos... Loki,Miguel Ohara,Wolverine, John Walker, Natasha Romanoff, nebula, drax.
Batman, Red hood (on the side of DC)

What does this "Frank not caring" look like?
_"He doesn't care about money, comfort, society..."_
Well, he doesn't care about money and comfort NOW because he's essentially on a suicide mission. And part of that suicide mission has to do with society since it's obviously not bringing his family back to life.
_"He has lost the only thing that was grounding him,now he only has his moral,a impulsive temper and a serious lack of remorse towards others so as even himself."_
I think you mean mercy rather than remorse. Castle being a "merciless vigilante" is the point of the character but it's also a character study about trauma etc.
_"Also because sociopaths has lived and felt as any average person, they're able to feel empathy (they only need to work really hard to it)"_

Then obviously you're going by a whole different list of traits as to what a "sociopath" is than I.

"Should" is a myth. And in my personal experience most psychologists and psychiatrists are simply bad at their jobs but nobody does anything about it unless one messes up so bad they can't cover it up.
Electra is like a drug, illegal but sure as hell is exiting and entertaining. I have never seen such a character ever. Best toxic character ever
This was peak Marvel tv. Every show had it's own unique flair. While Iron Fist was a major misstep (still not sure how they thought they were going to follow up the insanely tight action choreography of Daredevil with that trash, especially when it character is supposed to be one of the most proficient hand to hand fighters in the IP), Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and the Punisher were great. Even Defenders wasn't a bad run. The casting was top notch and you can tell the writers really cared about doing justice for the history of these characters.
Had a harder time getting in to Jessica Jones, mainly because her character is designed to be kind of crummy, but over time I've come to appreciate how unique that story was. And it gave us Killgrave, one of the creepiest and most sadistic villains in the MCU. Miss these days.
Whenever someone says the Punisher has "questionable ethics" or might not be "morally correct" I like to remind them that that would apply to all armed forces as well... 🤔
Nice to watch this with a friend. I have already seen it twice.
Frank and Elektra are two contrasts. Elektra kills because she gets off on it. Frank kills because he's a broken man in a broken world and is trying to fix it the only way he knows how.
Elektra and Matt remind me of what a Black Widow x Daredevil combo would be like. Really wish those 2 had teamed up on screen.
"Also, what the heck is an Elektra?" 🤣
Electra is to Daredevil as Cat Woman is to Batman
I think Karen is more his Catwoman, (don’t forget Karen has a criminal side too). Elektra is his Talia Al Ghul.
If you think that Jon Bernthal Punisher is tough, you should see Ray Stevenson fix his broken nose with a pencil.
Nat and V both uploading S2 of this, I love it!👌😊 Great reaction, you are very entertaining and funny! Have I mentioned, the background jazz is very calming?
I don't think I've seen V so animated before
To me the « one batch » episode is peak season 2. After that, I feel like it jumps the shark with the Elektra stuff (which was more there to bring the Defenders)
As much as I love the show, I struggle to enjoy the second half of s2. Thankfully, season 3 makes up for it like a lot
I know it's a bit on the nose, but Elektra and Karen are the devil and angel, respectively, on Matt's shoulders.
