In the comics, Gwen Stacy is Peter's very first love interest, as well as having to build his own synthetic web shooters. Only the Tobey Spider-Man movies made his webs shoot naturally from his wrists.
Andrew's cocky and quippy Spider-Man is very accurate too!
@@LiveFromThePorcelainPalace before Betty it was Liz actually
Also, I think the main reason Andrew doesn't have an MJ is because of two reasons, they tried to fit her in the story but couldn't.
Also, if the writers were following the original comics, Peter actually fell for Gwen Stacy first and didn't meet MJ until later after high school.
@hellowhat890 Yeah, apparently they got Shaileen Woodley to play MJ in TASM2 but all her scenes got cut
@@rafailkarampetsos6914 Not according to Marvel Comics. Besides, Peter and Liz Allen never actually dated. Peter and Betty did.
@@LiveFromThePorcelainPalace i know they didn't date but he liked her since the first issue although nothing happened between them but i always forget Betty's and Liz's existence in the comics.
Andrew is my favourite of all time ... his chemistry with gwen is amazing plus his weirdo, ackward and charming acting makes this movie soo good
Hey there,
To answer your question about Andrew not being spiderman in the MCU, it was a licencing issue. Spiderman lives with Sony, and for a long time Marvel couldn't use him. After the Amazing spiderman 2 came out, Sony was beginning to create a bad reputation as a studio and so in desperate times, they came together with Marvel to make a "unique" licencing deal: We'll let you use spiderman in the MCU, If you help us (Sony) make better Spider-Man movies in your universe.
And that is why we have a third spiderman, to start new without carrying the baggage andrews movies had. Hope that helps! ✌
I blame AVI ARAD
@@Zombiesnyder13 yes Avi is Spider-Man’s worst enemy
@@Zombiesnyder13 I laughed in the theater, when he was credited in "No Way Home".
@@JimmyXWolvie he's so visionary he had to destroy two franchises before
Not 2 mention the fact being that Andrew's spider man completely overshadowed his peter parker as opposed 2 every other Peter Parker we've had at least with Andrew's Peter we get 2 see how he should learn the things he needs 2 know
The funniest part about the Garfield Spiderman movies and the hate that they got is that Garfield's take on Spiderman (and on Peter, if we're being honest) is more comic-accurate than the Tobey or Tom Holland versions are. The cockiness, the quirkiness, the constant quips and one-liners, the movements, all are so much more like the comics in Garfield's version. Plus the cinematography is so much better than the Raimi movies had, the first-person shots of Spiderman swinging through the city still hold up incredibly well today.
It probably helps that Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy actually has some agency and is highly competent, instead of basically every female character being a constant damsel-in-distress screaming for help every 5 minutes like in the Raimi movies.
Also, poor Andrew Garfield, not getting a third Spiderman movie....he absolutely deserved to get one.
"Flash has so much anger issues, what's his deal?"
"Feels better, right?"
That one line shows you everything about Flash's character.
yep bro he is bully but he is also like good friend.
That's one of the only good things I can say about this movie, Flash is such a good character
whoa. I had never understood that one line until I saw this comment. That's cool
yeah thats actually the deepest version of the character on screen yet
Andrew is actually british, but he is just a great actor and a HUGE Spiderman fan, he said he was a bit of a geek growing up and Peter/Spiderman helped... I always have said, to the comics, Tobey was a closer Peter to the comics, Andrew did a closer Spiderman (the quips/wit is totally comic Spidey.... Spidey is all the sass) and Tom does a good both.
I kinda disagree with Tobey being a little closer to Peter. If we’re talking about the Lee and Ditko run, which had Peter in High School all the way to his first couple of years in college, Peter has a short temper and is less shy and awkward than how he’s portrayed in Raimi’s movies.
Toby's spiderman/peter parker is nothing like the comics. Thats just bs ppl say, Andrew is closer to Peter than all of the live action actors. Compare him to ultimate comics or mainline.
Tobey is by far the last comic accurate Peter/SpiderMan. The people you've heard opposite from, have never touched a Spidey comic before.
Gwen Stacy was Peters first love before he met MJ
And the music was composed by the late James Horner, who did Titanic, Avatar, and Braveheart
Gwen was Peters SECOND love interest after Betty Brant!
@@LiveFromThePorcelainPalace damn it, I need to read actual comics
@@LiveFromThePorcelainPalace not true - don’t know why you’re putting that on every comment.
@@salvadormartinez8577 it's true. Betty Brant was Peters girlfriend before Gwen was even created.
if I remember well, MJ was teased in the comics before Gwen first appeared. I'm not sure which of them was shown first.
Gwen Stacey was the original love interest for Peter Parker. Mary Jane is remembered because she's the one that he meets later and forms a life long relationship with.
Andrew absolutely nailed the Spidey humor.
These movies had their faults, but I don't care. So did **ALL** the Spider-Man movies. These are my favorites. Andrew Garfield is the best live-action Spider-Man, in my humble opinion.
Andrew Is And always will be my favorite Spiderman, i just feel so unfair the way he was replaced
Before I start watching this, I’m so happy that you did this one. I vaguely remember the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man from when I was a child, but this one is the one that I believe, really shaped my love of Spider-Man. This movie will always hold a special place in my heart no matter what people say.
Also, yes, this is a different Spider-Man story from the Tobey Maguire or Tom Holland one. It does not exist in the MCU, but the recent films have made it exist in the broader Marvel cinematic Multiverse.
Also, the organic web shooters that Tobey Maguire has were actually his idea, And more traditionally Spider-Man has to make his own web shooters
Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy is easily the best female lead in any Spider-Man film. Not only does she have great chemistry with Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker, she actually does something other than be the damsel in distress.
15:13 That one scene had me want more of Flash. Clearly, he's been going through stuff too when he told Peter "feels better, right?"
That's my favorite scene of the movie
This is one of the last movies for which James Horner did the soundtrack. He also did it for Titanic & Avatar till he had a falling out with James Cameron (who was supposed to direct the first Tobey McGuire spider man)
After he passed away Tom Holkenberg took over for Part 2
I think Horner's last film was the Magnificent Seven from 2016.
Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) was one of the people involved in the Part 2 soundtrack; Hans Zimmer was the leader of them.
In the Spider-Man comics very beginning it was initially Gwen Stacy who Peter Parker was in love with, Mary Jane Watson wasn’t an actual main character for Spider-Man until a couple years later and was a fan favorite.
The business back then decided they needed shock factor and the writers of the death of Gwen Stacy comic had a meeting to decide who they needed to kill off between MJ, aunt may, and Gwen Stacy. The initial idea given from the head office was aunt may since she was old but the creators decided against it due to her role being too important to Peter, they couldn’t just give him a new mother figure, but they did have a fan favorite lined up who could replace his love interest so they decided to do that
This is my favorite version of Spiderman
Peter beating people up and saying he’s sorry is kinda a Jackie Chan move.
Andrew Garfield is almost 40 years old, he's a little old to be playing a high schooler/college kid..
Tobey Maguire is 47. Tom Holland is 26. But Tom was only 17 when he was cast as Spider-Man making him the youngest major actor to play the character in live action, and the closest to the character's actual age. Tobey was 26, Andrew was 27, and Tom was 18 when they started filming on their first film portraying the high schooler.
Dennis Leary who plays Commissioner Stacey is in fact a comedian.
for your question about the spidermen..in Studio and Film point of view, Tobey's spiderman was pre-MCU..remember, the Spiderman franchise is owned by Sony..while the MCU is Disney/ Marvel Studios..so technically, Disney doesnt have any control or power on the spiderman casting..since the MCU started on 2008, and Tobey's spiderman was actually finished by that time..Sony wanted to have their own cinematic universe evolving around spiderman..hence, Andrew's Amazing Spiderman 1 & 2..now, it didnt go off like they wanted..so they scrapped that idea..now, before Captain America: Civil War was released,
there has been talks between Sony and Disney to make a deal to share Spiderman..and they wanted that character to last a very long time in the franchise, hence, a younger actor in Tom Holland..
about Gwen and MJ, in the comics, Gwen is Peter's 1st love, around high school i think..then MJ in his college..they twist it in Tobey's films..
as you already watched the Loki series, you can say that Tobey and Andrew's Peter Parker
are variants from the other universe outside Tom's Peter Parker..
great reaction V..
Spider-man uses web shooters only the Sam Raimi films starring Tobey McGuire changed this.
Superheroes in general have different characteristics based on the writers. Sometimes Peter is a nerd that gets bullied other times he is dorky genius kid with his own friends group. It also depends on if the story is during his high school years, his college years or full adult. I definitely look forward to your next reaction.
New York City allows students to select public schools within the 5 boroughs with an exception for specialty schools where an exam is required.
18:29 Nope, Garfield didn't grow up in New York. He was born in Los Angeles, but his family moved to England when he was still a toddler so he grew up there. His natural accent is (British) English!
Oh great now i HAVE see all of the other 6 spiderman movies. i Kinda am biased to liking Tobey McGuire as the main Spiderman. But Andrew brings a different spin on Spiderman. he did a really good job.
I’m literally obsessed with Spider-Man, and since I can’t redo my first watch, I love reaction channels. Because I get to watch more first watches, so I kinda get to remember my first watch too. Super nostalgic to watch someone else watch your favorite movie, isn’t it?
Andrew Garfield is English. I don't think he grew up in New York, but he did play a New Yorker in Doctor Who.
Spiderman: your parents are not gonna see you leaving.
V: you're gonna give her a mask too?
🤣🤣🤣 nice one
Best way i can explain why theres 3 spidermen is legal reasons. Sony wanted to reboot spiderman after tobey's last movie so they can appeal to a younger generation i guess, and so we got andrew. Then a few years later sony and marvel cut a deal for them to use spiderman in their mcu but in order to do that they had to recast peter so thats why now we have tom as spiderman
My Fav Spider-Man _ good film, amazing reaction so far ❤
Andrew was born in the US but is English, and grew up in a city called Epsom in England.
I love NYC in this movie and I live on the opposite coast! Shoutout from a Cali native!!
Thats otto hightower climbing towers yalll
Really it's literally the" amazing " Spiderman. Oh it brings so much memories back . Loved your reaction BTW.
In point of fact Denis Leary _was_ a comic before he took up acting.
Also, Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man. Back in the day Marvel was in financial trouble, so they sold the rights to certain characters. Fox got the X Men, and the MCU couldn't use the word "mutant," hence "enhanced" humans.
It took a lot of log rolling to get Spider-Man into the MCU, but that's probably part of the reason Tom Holland was cast.
As you've figured out by now, there's only two Garfield movies, so one more and you can watch No Way Home. I'm not normally the one who insists that you watch 2 or 3 seasons of two different shows just to "really get" a series (The Mandalorian, pointed look), but this is an exception. In many ways No Way Home is as powerful as Endgame.
Peter saving Jack is the most Spider-Man moment ever.
Risking everything to save one kid.
“This guy thinks he’s a comedian” well yeah…it’s Dennis Leary. XD
Peter had several love interests in the comics. Gwen and MJ were just the main two. As far as your question for why Andrew Garfield couldn't move on to play Spiderman in the Avengers/they had Tom Holland replace him, here's the scoop....
Coming off the hugely successful 2012 Avengers film, many movie studios attempted to replicate their formula of having their own cinematic universes with little to no success themselves. For example, Universal tried doing a "Dark Universe" with various monster movies. The 2017 Mummy film with Tom Cruise was supposed to be the kickstarter for it. It totally bombed so the whole idea was scrapped. That said...
The Amazing Spiderman was to be Sony's own attempt at creating a Spiderman cinematic universe since they own the movie rights to the character. The problem was that after the first Amazing Spiderman was a relatively successful hit, the studio execs got overly anxious with the idea of creating this cinematic universe. So what did they do? They tried cramming WAY too many plot points into the Amazing Spiderman 2 in order to set the stage for too many future movies that didn't even exist yet and the movie suffered for it. It was the lowest drawing Spiderman movie to date and it's looked down on very unfavorably by both audiences and critics. Because of this, the Amazing Spiderman series was cut short after only two movies, the attempted Sony Spiderman universe was scrapped, and Andrew Garfield's involvement as Spiderman came to a close. This is why Marvel Studios worked out a deal with Sony to allow Tom Holland to play Spiderman in Civil War shortly after. It was yet another attempt to reboot Spiderman.
Garfield is my Spider-man... And he has the best swings
Hey Vicky love your content I recently subscribed to your channel after watching some of your videos and I love them I can't wait for more reactions in the future 😊
One unresolved question: what the heck ever happened to cannibal lizard-rat, Fred? Is _he_ now terrorizing New York's sewers??? 😳
He's living his best life.
@@greywolf7577 That's what I'm afraid of!
Thank God you heard my requests
28:35 Its interesting you say that. That has always been the message of Spiderman, from comic books to everything else, that, basically, technology is the enemy. Technology is used by all enemies deliberately. Spiderman himself is the product of someone elses experiment accidentally thrust on him, while all of the enemies are volunteers and chose the path to develop and test the technology on themselves. In the original spiderman it was a radioactive spider, in modern spiderman its a genetically engineered spider. Both sciences were new and scary when their respective spidermans came out.
Qwen Stacey was Peter Parkers love interest before MJ, according to the comics. His first love
25:40
That guy is Denis Leary, and yes he is was and will be a comedian. You've seen him before in Demolition Man.
He does have a rather harsh take during his bits, so be prepared.
Has she seen Demolition Man?
Omg the second one is gonna be a roller coaster
The main theme music in this one is SO GOOD. one of James Horner’s best imo.
Andrew Garfield grew up in Surrey, which is about as opposite to New York as you can get 😂
Andrew Garfield is by faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar the best/most comic-accurate Peter Parker/Spider-Man across the board. Attitude, looks, build, personality, the way he moves, etc.
Spider-Man has more love interests than basically ANY normal lifespan Marvel character. Like more than Iron Man.
The only ones who rival Spider-Man's number of girlfriends are characters like Wolverine who are hundreds of years old.
And the vast majority of his girlfriends are models, supermodels, superheroes who could be supermodels, or in the case of Felicia Hardy....a superhero who wildly outclasses any supermodel.
My point is, Peter is noted as being WILDLY attractive.
He's dated Captain Marvel, Silk, Mockingbird (Hawkeye's wife), Silver Sable, Shadowcat, etc etc etc etc etc etc.....and Jessica Jones has had a huge crush on him since high school when he didn't even know her name.
But there are basically 3 main love interests for Spider-Man that you need to know about.
- 1. Gwen Stacy is Spider-Man's first and one main true love. In his perfect world, if he controlled reality, he's admitted that he'd be with Gwen above all others.
- 2. Mary Jane Watson is sort of like his rebound consolation prize.
- 3. Felicia Hardy/the Black Cat is like his ultimate love interest. She's like a really badass version of Gwen Stacy blended with Catwoman. She's his love interest who can like TRULY keep up with him and fully be his partner, and almost never a damsel in distress, but they have a whole star-crossed lovers thing going on, where they've been into each other for AGES (seriously, like 30 years of comics), but they struggle to get the timing right to get together.
Well..Gwen was the love interest in the OG Spiderman..and MJ was later introduced and have been the main love interest after it .
I remember watching the scene where Dr Connors has his new arm and for some strange reason got ill lol. Dry retching and nauseous. I imagined it smelled like when you have a cast on after breaking an arm lol
Andrew was born in LA and raised in Epsom, England.
Stop Math 😂🤣😂😂 Andrew Garfield was my favorite Spidy ❤❤❤❤
15:51 they come out of his mind xD like MCU!Peter's. That's how it happened in the comics too. And Spider-Verse. McGuire!Spidey is the outlier.
The film was a box office and critical success, making $770 million dollars against a $200 million dollar budget.
TASM2 was a box office and critical disappointment, making $709 million dollars against a $293 million dollar budget, killing any chance of a third ASM.
Tasm 2 was kinda semi hit though . If tasm 2 made 709 dollars out of the 293 dollar budget then how come it's a failure
Tasm 2 was kinda semi hit though . If tasm 2 made 709 dollars out of the 293 dollar budget then how come it's a failure
To answer your question yes Andrew's Spider-Man is a different universe
While the movies aren't necessarily my favourites, Andrew Garfield is my favourite Spiderman.
Had to laugh when you said "Gwen's dad is a comedian"... Well he is.. Dennis Leary.
Your commentary is just hilarious. Doo doo water made me lol 😂
Toby-Spiderman I grew up on
Andrew- My Spider-Man Forever
Holland-Ironboy
Andrew grew up in Epsomban, Surrey, but was born in Los Angeles.
The Web-shooters were in the comics, the Maguire movies changed it first, so this Spider-man movie did it accurite to the comics first. (At least in live-action)
Also Andrew was 28 when this movie came out Tom is 26 now and he was 20 in Civil war. Marvel wanted an original Spider-man to the MCU, and his movies weren't doing that great, and people really hated TASM2, and a younger Peter is always more accurite to the comics. (So Andrew was 32 at the time, when Tom was only 20). Andrew in my opinion is the ferfect adult Peter, but Tom is more like a high schooler, and i believe that he is 19 in No way home more than i would believe any Spider-man actor. Tobey - wise uncle Spider-man in his late 40s, Andrew - adult, late 30s more experienced Spider-man, Tom - early 20s less experienced, needs to learn, and has opportunity to do it in th MCU (Being an Avenger, meeting with Matt, stuff like that separate him from other Spider-mans)
They were planning for much more movies, but how the 2nd one was received by a lot of people, and Marvel got parts of the rights back, so that Spider-man could've been in the MCU, they completely ended every movie in production that was connected to TASM, but fans are still waiting for TASM 3, so that the post-credit scenes finally can make sense.
_"The Web-shooters were in the comics, the Maguire movies changed it first, so so this Spider-man movie did it accurite to the comics first. (At least in live-action)"_
Upch-whu, excuse me, as a kid back in the '80s I had my parents rent me 1977 Spider-Man on VHS and watched Nicholas Hammond Peter Parker build his webshooters! How dare you, young whippersnapper, and get off my lawn! :-)
I just realized the cameras in the highschool would've seen Peter's face when he was running through the hallway (I'm high)
There should be a Spiderman, Ninja turtles crossover, where the Lizard's formula leak's in the sewers and the Turtles are created. Evil Turtles and a giant rat. They want all the pizza and cheese in the world 🤯😂
Still my favorite spider-man.
Dude, I LOVED these movies. I hate they didn’t do well enough to keep going.
Edit: also, I MUST know what the Trump tower climber ytp is that you are referring to!
9:50 check out "eight legged freaks" you'll love it 😀
In the comics Peter dates Gwen and some other ladies before finally getting together with MJ who he eventually marries. That's the comics and I'm curious to see what the current movies have in store for Peter
Andrew Garfield was born in LA grew up in England
the web swinging looks so good in the andrew garfield version
Lol "when does he unlock web shooting."
Andrew's Spider-Man and the MCU Spider-Man use web shooters just like how it is in the comics
Sony owns the rights to spider-man, and after the third movie was canceled, they struck a deal with marvel studios for a different actor to play spider-man in the mcu
All the Spider-Man movies before Tom hill and are considered Sony movies since they own the rights to them he character, after amazing Spider-Man 2 Sony needed to try something different and made a deal with marvel/Disney to have Spider-Man in the mcu which is when they casted Tom holland
35:35 oh he's gonna do more than break Gwen's heart 🤭
Since you have watched nearly everything including Daredevil, do watch the 2 Venom movies before Spiderman No Way Home.
The movie is a reboot for the series, so it doesn’t have anything to do with the Toby Maguire series. Now as for why Garfield/Maguire couldn’t be in the second reboot of the series is because those film series are from when Sony still owned the rights to the franchise, and it wasn’t until Marvel bought the rights to the character, and thus the Holland series is another reboot that doesn’t have to do with the others (….well, that’s not entirely true but I’m pretty sure… nvm, you’ll see what i mean soon..)
“This guy, he thinks he’s a comedian!” You talking about Captain Stacy or Denis Leary?
27:58 what if I’m addicted to Math. What if I snorted up to much math and got high on numbers?
The reason both Garfield and Maguire’s Spider-Men were rebooted is do to the underwhelming box office revenue and poor reviews both Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 are the worst reviewed and the lowest preforming Spider-man movies and each time that happened they’ve were rebooted thankfully all of Tom Hollands movies were massive successes so he likely won’t be rebooted anytime soon even if the rest of the mcu is I feel like they’d find a way to keep him around
Have fun watching Emma in the next film.
Lol Andrew Grew up in London 😂😂
Andrew Garfield is my favorite spider-man. i wish they push amazing spider man instead of the new one.
My favorite part of this reaction was when you said that Denis Leary really wanted to be a comedian.
Liz Allen and Betty Brandt was Peter's high school love interest in the comics. Gwen Stacy was Peter's college girlfriend. Mary Jane was Peter's professional girlfriend. Felicia Hardy was Spiderman's girlfriend. Mary Jane eventually returned and became Peter's wife and revealed that she always knew that he was Spidey.
Emma Stone has the sexiest husky voice. And I love her laugh.
Sony is required to make a spider man movie every 2 or 3 years to keep the movie rights. If they don’t then they revert back to marvel. That doesn’t include the villain movies
Honestly this movie makes a HUGE deal out of Peter humiliating Flash. I mean it's REALLY blown out of proportion. Uncle Ben's attitude to it was just unrealistic. NO Father sees their child come home with a black eye and THEN get's mad when said child stands up for themselves. Peter didn't hurt anyone and it's not like Toby actually PUNCHING Flash in HIS movie. Andrew just gave Flash a tiny taste of the humiliation he gives out by being a bully. And yet we get the Poor humiliated Flash angle.
So, this is the problem I've had with the first two Spider-Men ... Tobey was a great Peter Parker, but only a passable Spider-Man. Not quippy enough. Andrew was an awesome Spider-Man, but too cool to be Peter Parker. At least, too cool for High School Peter. I think that Tom Holland fits quite well in both roles, and for that reason, he is my favorite. All three of their story lines deviate in various ways from the Spidey I grew up reading in the sixties, but I imagine that Mobius and Loki will get that all sorted out eventually. 😉
I am not finding your Spiderman 3 video in your archive. :O
Tobey Mcguire played the perfect Peter Parker. Andrew Garfield played the perfect smarta- - Spiderman. Tom Holland pulled both Peter and Spiderman off.
While Tobey, Garfield, and Holland Spider-Men are all from different universes, there's an underlying pattern called the Web of Life that leads to a Spider-Man coming into existence. The specific details might differ (from the smaller ones to the biggest changes) but they all don the moniker Spider-Man.
Yeah its interesting, you notice how so many villains' origins is based on being betrayed and being ostracized, bullied, humiliated, or 'marginalized' in some cases.
"Is gwen getting a mask?"
Hahaha..ha..ha...about that.....points to Spider-Verse*
What you said is kinda true. Most love Tobey and that put a damper on the new ones, but what ive come to find out is that while Tobey is my favorite as well, any spider-man is a good spider-man because the Spider-man character is just the greatest superhero so I will like any of his movies regardless of who actually plays him. I think that's true for most people. we all have our favorite Spider-man, but will eat up any Spider-man offering.
Good reaction
"He thinks he's a comedian. He's so funny..." That was Denis Leary, and, yeah, he was pretty funny. ;) For example : ua-cam.com/video/UrgpZ0fUixs/v-deo.html
You left in three of the best scenes!!! "No, I know your name; I just wanna know if you know your name." "Oh I'm in trouble." "But those are the best kind." A lot of people kind of skip over Gwen and talk about Andrew's depiction, but I was totally bowled over by Emma Stone. I REALLY like smart women...so she was not only a valedictorian, but she also had guts. First, she stood up to Flash. Then, she ignored Peter and decided to stay to work on the antidote. She was smart AND strong. What's not to like.
22:32
The reason why there are 3 Spider-Men is because the 4th installment of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies was spending way too much time on the storyboard segment of the making process, most of the ideas or cast had to be scrapped. This is why Sony decided that they should just reboot the franchise.
The MCU Spider-Man's story is different. In 2016, when Disney bought Marvel, Spider-Man's character rights were still at Sony, so Disney had to buy that too. After that, they wanted a Spider-Man consistent with their Cinematic Universe.
tis one reminds me of the game a bit more =)
"Why couldn't Andrew Garfield fulfill the Spider-Man role in the MCU instead of Tom Holland"
Spider-Man is owned by Sony, not Marvel (for movie rights)
Andrew Garfield's movies at the time were a simple "reboot" of Spider-Man for Sony, as they -have- to use the license of Spider-Man every few years to keep ownership. So they just ordered a reboot after the Tobey Maguire movies. The reboot at the time was not part of the MCU, just like Tobey's Spider-Man it was its own thing, not linked to anything. So Sony and Marvel sat down to get a Spider-Man into the MCU, and that had to be done through a new story with a younger Peter Parker, so they got a new actor (Tom).
There was an attempt to put the oscorp tower in the avengers and the avengers tower in spiderman but I believe the oscorp tower design was still not chosen and they didn't like marvel rushing them on it so that fell apart.
It was the above that led people to believe sony and marvel were incapable of ever working together.
The Lizard's normally a tragic character with Connors struggling with his animal side and Peter's attempts to cure him never being permanent. But in this he's just a generic mad scientist who wants to turn everyone into lizards.
