Yup. They've been the icons and face of New York City for years! Now all those Vics have been replaced by Toyota Priuses and Nissans, which I think is terrible.
I think Ford actually is going to bring back the Crown Victoria soon in a few years probably as an electric car, with its successors, the Ford Taurus and Ford Explorer, being over 10 years old by now! Besides, I'm pretty sure many police departments, taxi companies and car enthusiasts want to see a return of the iconic Crown Vic that has appeared in countless movies and TV series since 1992 and has since become one of the faces and icons of not just NYC, but America as a whole!
Ford has officially announced the possibility of a 4-door sedan variant of the Mustang. If it enters production, the EcoBoost would be an ideal option for a taxi, being an American RWD sedan with this one having a small engine for lower fuel consumption. This is why the 4-door EcoBoost Mustang would be an ideal taxi.
Former Washington DC cab driver here. These cars were incredibly reliable. Many of them were running 24/7. Our shifts were 12 hours and when we turn the car in another driver would hop in and the seed would still be warm. Or you could lease the vehicle for a week at $600. If you fill up the tank you're going to get approximately 334 miles per tank. That was standard on almost all of the Crown Vics. Customers routinely fell asleep in the back because it was such a great ride. Funny enough they would get around 21 miles per gallon on average. I remember it was common for these vehicles to run out of antifreeze because of some leak when they were around 250, 000 miles on the odometer. And they would be towed back into service. Service department would change the hose and fill up the antifreeze and then put it right back on the road. The Japanese cars if were emptied of antifreeze, would simply blow their head gasket and warp the engine block, and you would need a new engine. By city ordinance we had to dispose of the vehicles when they hit 380, 000 Miles. At that time other taxi companies would purchase them because other jurisdictions had lax rules. I remember the police department would come and test our meters to make sure we weren't cheating. The back seat would lift up it was a bench cushion. We would routinely find small bags of cocaine or other types of drugs every week. In our region we did not have the plastic cages. So if a passenger was violent they could attack us from behind. I could go on and on with stories. Just like most taxi drivers. Especially the ones that drove at night with the freaks. It was exciting and dangerous and it was lucrative. You could simply jump in a car and make money that day. You could take home $200 cash every day after you pay your gas and after you pay the lease. So you're looking $4800 to $5, 000 cash per month. You're using a company car and Company Insurance. I feel sorry for today's Uber and Lyft drivers because they're beating up their own car and they're getting paid less than what we made.
I'm so glad I'm a Vic owner now and can help keep these things alive. Thanks for getting this footage. Seeing inside the LWB model with all the cab bells and whistles was a treat.
Wow, you actually have a Crown Vic? Dang, I'm jealous! I wish I can own a Crown Vic soon, so that I can preserve one of these cars for the future, and also to scare drivers into thinking that I'm a cop. ;)
On my trip to NYC in September 2019, I got to hail and ride in Crown Vic taxi 8C98. Having wanted to just see one my whole life, I couldn't believe it when I saw it pull up. Truly a dream come true having experienced one of these! I believe that the last ever NYC Crown Vic taxi retires in May 2023, so not long left now guys!
My friend, I almost forgot how it feels to be in a Crown Victoria. My dad used to drive one here in nyc in 2009 or 2010 I don’t remember but thank u so much for this video💯 and thank u for bringing me flashbacks💪🏽
That was a great catch. So sad they're almost all gone. These were the best cars to drive as cabs. The only other one that looks as good is 6Y12, the undercover cop cab car. It's in the West Village all the time.
Wow, I didn't know that Ford Crown Victorias were still in service as taxis in NYC, about 10 years since they stopped being built! They're basically one of the famous icons of NYC, and America as a whole! Although, the driver of this particular Vic stated that he thinks that there are only about 6 Crown Vics still in service, so unforunately I don't think they're going to stay on New York's streets any much longer, now that it's 2022. Hopefully, Ford will make the decision to bring this car back soon, so that the Vic can live once more again in the present day!
So the Crown Vic taxi package Came with A v8 engine. Well the Ford Motor Company Will bring back the Crown Victoria With A V8 engine. So the Crown Victoria Commercial Taxi Package. The Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. The Crown Victoria Hybrid V8 engine. The Crown Victoria Station Wagon. The Crown Victoria Plug in Hybrid V8 engine. The Crown Victoria 2 Door Coupe. The Crown Victoria 4 Door Sedan. The Crown Victoria SVT. The Crown Victoria Fuel cell. The Crown Victoria Will be back in the Future.
Wow that’s awesome, I am extremely lucky to own a genuine retired crown Vic NY taxi medallion number 1M93 here in the U.K. that retired in 2019. I’ve unfortunately never managed to go to NY but hopefully will later on this year.
I drove in one back in late 2017... didn't wan't to get into a Prius or a Nissan NV so i really waited an hour to catch one. It unit C684 who drove me from Union Square park to Manhattan on a hot early october night.
Doing gods work saving and videoing the old cabs. Greetings from Australia Look up for falcon AU taxi And/or Ford falcon BA taxi for the aussie version based on the aussie ford falcon ( they where inline 6 )
How can that CV still be in service in 2022? I thought there was a NYC law that stated a cab had to be retired from taxi service after the car turned 7 years old. That cab has to be at least 11 years old!
Glad that you got your own in 2022. The Crown Jewels of inner city transportation. A limousine for welfare moms taking their kids to school or the doctor, and then picking up a high powered Wall Streeter mover and shaker finishing a billion dollar deal on the phone as he or she rides in the back to the office or club. Maybe a billionaire like Elon will buy the assembly line and start making these again with electric or hydrogen motors. And there's always the internal combustion old reliable engine to fall back on when 'green' doesn't cut it.
I have some doubts about the car models you got in the U.S. I am from Argentina, and here the cars that look more or less like Crown Victoria were discontinued in the 90's or early 00's to be replaced for new models or new generations from the same model that looked more modern than the existing by the time. Those models are, in great part, pretty similar to the cars we got nowadays (Example: toyota corolla, the models from the 90's are so different from the ones we got today, but the ones from the early 00's are similar to the new ones). What is curious for me is that in many movies from the U.S you see people driving cars that look old (but I know that cars are not too expensive in U.S, so I guess that actually they aren't old). In adition, the other day I was exploring some locations from the U.S with Google Street View, and if I switched the year of the footages to 2007-2012, cars looked, in many cases, really old. If I see the footages from 2021, the majority of the cars change, are different in shape and design, and look similar to the ones we got here in Argentina since many years ago. The question would be, am I right? Did you still produce cars with "old designs" in the recent years? What were the most popular models? And finally, are you replacing those models for new ones that look newer? Greetings!
Ford shot themselves in the foot when they discontinued a time proven work horse, same with the Econoline vans. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it!
there is nothing better than traveling in a Crown Vic in New York
absolutely right
Yup.
Yup. They've been the icons and face of New York City for years! Now all those Vics have been replaced by Toyota Priuses and Nissans, which I think is terrible.
What if Ford brought back the Crown Victoria at some point? Not that it’s gonna happen, but what if they could?
Amen
They should bring back production of these crown Vic taxis!! They were gems!! True symbolism of NYC!! 😎🙌

What in the world? I thought they stopped using Taxi Crown Vics! Nice to see one still going! Just like police, they were legendary as those, too!
There are only 6 of them left
@@haechiwr How about now?
@@42luke93 probably 3 or 4, the taxi in this video is apparently already retired in New Jersey.
@@haechiwr Wait was this the one in regular cars then?
@42luke No that's 3E43, it was retired in early 2021. 1A21 retired somewhere in mid 2022
I have some pictures of this exact cab from my 10 years of working in NYC, surprised to still see it working.
What a beautfiul Crown Vic, I'm glad you were able to ride in one of these in 2021!
Great video. I spotted this same car still in service on February 17th. Didn't get to ride in it unfortunately!
thanks!!!
I remember there was nothing but these driving around. Gonna miss these
Yup. Now the only thing driving around are Nissans and Toyota Priuses.
My friend, I almost forgot how it feels to be in a Crown Victoria. My dad used to drive one here in nyc in 2009 or 2010 I don’t remember but thank u so much for this video💯 and thank u for bringing me flashbacks💪🏽
Still drive one, fully active, for work. 2008, black P71. Love that car

Dang that is so cool, quite an experience. I wish to visit NYC one day
Documenting history right there. Thanks for sharing!
Dang I love these LWBs. They are so unique
When I was a kid these were once commonplace in NYC now rarely if not all are in use

Too bad that I probably won't get a chance to ride in those that are still in service, if I ever go to the states.
Just bought a LWB crown vic yesterday.... drove from philly to Manhattan for it
what medallion?
That’s A long time ago.
Wow one of the last ones
Absolutely jealous I’ve tried to find one the last time I visited!!!!
Holy shit, I thought these were all gone years ago. I feel like I've seen "the last NYC Crown Vic taxi" for a few years now lol
didn't even know they made lwb vics, is this a taxi fleet version only, or there also is a civvie lwbs?
Taxi fleet only for nyc
In the Middle East is where those exist.
They did it for the Lincoln Town Cars too. Fleet vehicles only.
That's amazing. I have a cvpi but I also want to get a taxi variant as well
Post more crown Victoria videos please
will do!

It's soo depressing that 200 or so new ones got destroyed in that flood way back when.
When did NYC get flooded?
@@miguelmontero6130 Hurricane Sandy
Still 6 left....the driver says.
Ford Crown Victoria will always be New York's car icon!
Amazing that the interior looks as good as it does not sure if that's been redone or original
Crown vic 4 life 💯
Only 5 left? Lmao hundreds of thousands left. Good video good vibes love it. Love your enthusiasm for Crown vics

I don’t leave in New York but I’m very upset nowadays there is no ford crown Victoria in New York 2022
I didn't drive in New York, but I drove the piss out of a bunch of p71 taxis. I miss those days 😀
How many of these NYC Crown Vic's are preserved?
Shame some of them got destroyed by the flood in 2012/3.
Here are the data:
01/01/2017: 224
01/01/2021: 34
01/01/2022: 19
05/10/2023: 2
The one in the video was withdrawn from service 29th of june 2022.
I liked that the driver knew that the other CV was an unmarked police car.
Niko Bellic might be in town
Whoever's in charge of nyc taxi cars bring these back man
Man i miss when cops and taxis used to have those cars please ford make more of them but the same
Very nice!
I miss those Vic's. Now all we have are the NV200's crapboxes and Toyota's. New York is just another city over run with Uber's.

It's looks more new then before and they should upgrade the crown victoria and make more newer instead of scraping them.

Nice
I've owned vix my entire life, the cage is insanely uncomfortable for passengers, the driver n psngr seats full up omg my bk
But the engine mark on gauges this taxi need service ☹️
There would be tens and hundreds still if it weren't for that stupid retirement rule.
sad that these are a dying breed in NYC
Sadly there are no more Crown Vics in NYC they should have continued production of this car just like Checker Taxi did until the 80's
MY ambition is to get a ride in a checker Or Ford crown Victoria that would make My Day
What have they been replaced with?
Garbage
Japanese junk
I can clearly hear 4.6 v8
