    It's pretty common to bring some pastry, sweets or alcohol with you on your first time visit, or if you haven't seen the people for a long time, both in Japan and Europe.

      Yeah its normal in Europe and Japan.

      For kids too? That's gotta be stressful for people with lots of friends lol. I guess here, at least growing up, the "gifting" was all the parents' unspoken agreement to feed each others' kids when they are at their house. Like, if Me, Timmy, and Johnny hang out at my place on Saturday, then they eat my food, and then on Sunday, we are at Timmy's and we eat his food LOL!

      @@zerobits4357 Really? The guest brings a cup of coffee with them? Like, in a thermos or something? In Poland it's the host's "duty" to offer a cup of coffee or tea to the guest, while the guest brings some snacks, sometimes a pot flower (especially when you visit someone's new house), some alcohol if you're planning on drinking

    About the gift thing (it's called "omiyage") ye it's mostly a Japan cultural thing (as far as I know), when you go to someone's house it's best seen to come with something to gift (even if it's a lil thing with no real intesrest, but usually it's often food and it's more about the act of "I'm allowed here, take this as a thanks for having me"). Not mandatory (fortunately), but ye it''s better to come with something if you wanna look nice.

      Adults do that in the States for house parties, cookouts, dinners... Bring a wine or some snack/treat, but it's for everyone not just the owners/hosts. Kids bring birthday gifts to birthday parties, but generally don't bring anything when just coming over to play or hang out. I wonder if Japanese friends hang out at each others' houses as often as Americans do, or if most play/hanging out happens in public/community areas. Having friends could be expensive LOL.

      @@TheGenreVerse i think because this is the first time Nijika and Kita come to Bocchi house and gift its a form of being polite in japanese culture, its not like every time they came to the house they must bring a gift, especially if they already know each other (bocchi family & her friend) bring a gift is not important

    Ah yes. Field Day. We had those in Canada too. I remember one year when we all signed up for events and then on the day of it was time for the 50 yard dash. Only 3 people signed up. We all won ribbons. I got second place.😃

    Yeah its somewhat common to bring a visiting gift in Japan consisting most of the time of sweets and fruit or local product if you are from a different region.

      when I was in school everything I invite some of my friend to home they were 80% with some kind of gift. Same situation for me. It was after the visting become very often and normalized then the gifting went away. Now that I think of it, it's a pain in the ass, but I guess I does show gratitude and friendliness the first few times when people don't know each other that well.

      Thanks for sharing! I love hearing about other cultures' customs and habits. It's one of the things I miss about being in the military the most, the travel and exposure to diverse places and people.

    I disagree with the chicks not dating younger dudes in school. I scored with older girls in school all the time. All you need is confidence, be easy on the eyes, not smell bad… and be able to kiss well.

    • @TheGenreVerse
      @TheGenreVerse  Місяць тому +1

      Confidence goes a long way, sure, but it's not, or wasn't around our time, common for older HS girls to mess with younger HS boys... or maybe even MS boys lol. Christine is 3yrs older than her brother and I don't know when the story took place. Besides, who this girl was, it wasn't the dude's game, she was just a little too... into dudes. Like, in a unhealthy way.

      @@TheGenreVerse I think it's never common, but it's possible, and does happen. I think a big part of it is that men and women tend to have different dating preferences and girls (in general, not everybody of course) tend to be attracted to older guys, while it's men who tend to prefer younger girlfriends.
